View Full Version : So lets start this!
Strider Mar 17, 2008, 07:08 PM Seems like we have a lot going on, but very little progress in actually starting the game. So it's about time we set a date for the first "rebellion."
How does this Friday sound?
All factions that plan on running can post inside of the index thread. If there are any coalitions that should be mentioned also (and put them under one ticket instead of two).
Shattered Mar 17, 2008, 07:27 PM We should have our platform done soon. Friday isn't at all a bad time.
croxis Mar 17, 2008, 07:38 PM I'll be out of the country =p
lostcause Mar 17, 2008, 07:46 PM So are we voting Friday, or starting the debate?
Seidrik_The_Gray Mar 18, 2008, 06:25 AM Well, if all goes well, Tribal Council faction should be good to go with an election platform very soon, i.e. by Thursday morning latest. I say start debate Thursday afternoon, run through weekend, and vote on Tuesday? Only problem is that forum participation is week on Weekends.
AluminumKnight Mar 18, 2008, 06:47 AM Friday will be my first day on vacation. If polls are not open before I leave, I will PM Dave or someone with my vote. It's possible that I will have internet access on vacation, but don't count on it.
I think kwarrior's latest proposal works. Platforms by Thursday, let debate run Thursday thru Tuesday, and then start the voting. That way we get the weekend crowd and the weekday crowd.
Diamondeye Mar 18, 2008, 08:45 AM :agree: Kwarriors plan sounds good.
DaveShack Mar 18, 2008, 11:25 AM Friday will be my first day on vacation. If polls are not open before I leave, I will PM Dave or someone with my vote.
Someone neutral like Rik Meleet might be a better choice.
AluminumKnight Mar 18, 2008, 12:23 PM Someone neutral like Rik Meleet might be a better choice.
Point taken.
Provolution Mar 18, 2008, 12:26 PM With public polls, it may also be ok to write it in the thread, if tactical timing is not an issue, but that is another dimension.
DaveShack Mar 18, 2008, 06:24 PM I was under the impression we had settled on wanting the faction election to be private, but suppose that could be a wrong interpretation of events. :)
Provolution Mar 18, 2008, 06:37 PM Faction election is private, as far as I heard, but I thought we were discussing a general policy.
We should post our platforms within friday and start the debate friday, as people mentioned here, and open polls after Easter (Monday), and give that critical first rebellion poll to thursday or friday next week, then begin the game that weekend.
We cannot lose a substantial amount of voters due to a major holiday, but we can sure make debates there.

For the general absentee voting policy discussion, go here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=267978).
That schedule sounds good, but I also want to check with someone on a minor technical point.
Italianajt Mar 20, 2008, 02:17 PM We should post our platforms within friday and start the debate friday, as people mentioned here, and open polls after Easter (Monday), and give that critical first rebellion poll to thursday or friday next week, then begin the game that weekend.
Do you mean restart the game with new leadership?
Seidrik_The_Gray Mar 20, 2008, 02:21 PM Italianajt, let me assure you that nothing has ended, nothing is restarting, but we are undergoing the arduous struggle to form a community, rules, settings, etc...we are all hoping that we can actually have our first prime faction election very soon. Right now, the factions are proposing their platforms, then they will post their platforms, then there will be a question and answer style debate, and then we will have a poll to elect the prime faction, and then, the game will be officially kicked off. That day will be exciting and worth all of the bottles of Advil...
Provolution Mar 20, 2008, 03:32 PM Do you mean restart the game with new leadership?
The game as not even started, it needs to start first, and we are to elect this leadership :)
Strider Mar 20, 2008, 07:45 PM Remember that all factions that plan on running must say so beforehand. As we really don't have much of a difference between guilds and factions it simplifies the process and eliminates groups that have no desire to compete.
Also any coalitions should be reported at the same time for they can be placed under a single ticket (once again simplifying the voting).
I'll go on and place a deadline of Sunday for the "registration" if I can get an announcement up soon.
DaveShack Mar 20, 2008, 10:15 PM Tribal Council is running. I didn't think there was much question about what factions are eligible.
As for announcing coalitions ahead of time, I agree it is needed if the factions don't meet the requirements for Prime Faction alone or they want to be listed as one, but another kind of coalition is possible which should not need to be announced in advance.
dutchfire Mar 25, 2008, 06:18 AM So, when are we starting?
Seidrik_The_Gray Mar 25, 2008, 06:29 AM dutch...go check out the debates, lol! It's starting already, hehe. I do believe though, that we were all in agreement to hold elections on Tuesday. However, there was additional discussions that led to having the platforms in on Friday, which they were. So, I'd say hold the debate through either Tuesday night or Wednesday night, then close debates and run the polling through the weekend or Monday. Then play the first turn on next Tuesday???
Seidrik_The_Gray Mar 25, 2008, 06:30 AM Do we want to make another announcement on Civfanatics concerning the current status of the Demogame, i.e. actually having formed factions and running our debate and election timeframe? That may rekindle interest in those, who have signed up but moved on thinking we were not going to be ready to roll for a while.
pat123 Mar 25, 2008, 09:00 PM So, let me get this straight.
Tuesday, March the 25: Debate opens for Head Faction.
Friday(ish), March the 28: Debate closes, polls open.
Monday(ish), March the 31: Polls close, Head/Prime Faction announced.
Wednesday(ish), April the 2nd (One week and a day from date of post) Term 1 of Demogame III is played.
Is this correct?
lostcause Mar 25, 2008, 09:03 PM To be totally honest, I don't think anyone has an idea when this egg-throwing contest moves into actual gameplay... What you have looks right, as far as I know.
pat123 Mar 25, 2008, 09:42 PM I hope polls open Friday. I go to Orlando, florida this Saturday.
lostcause Mar 25, 2008, 09:57 PM Someone, somewhere is working on absentee voting...
DaveShack Mar 26, 2008, 12:06 AM I suggest opening the polls around 0001 UTC, March 28th, for 3 days. They will close 0001 UTC, March 31st.
Since we haven't had any specific date/time events yet this game, here is a quick guide for this one...
Poll open date/time
EDT (east coast US) March 27, 20:01 (8:01 pm)
PDT (west coast US) March 27, 17:01 (5:01 pm)
I don't know if Europe is on daylight savings time now. If it is, then London should be UTC+1, or 0101 March 28.
Any time zone can calculate the correct time by adding or subtracting the time zone offset from the UTC time.
As for game start date, I strongly recommend against April 1st. Too much risk of practical jokesters that day.
Joe Harker Mar 26, 2008, 02:47 AM I we are now in daylight savings, not this sunday been but the sunday before, I set my alarm clock for the Australian GP, didn't realise the clock changed and woke up an hour earlier than i needed to
NZL Mar 26, 2008, 04:05 AM Hmm, Belgium only switches to DST this coming weekend [29 -> 30 March]

It was probably worth it though :)
I got up early for the Malaysia race and was a bit disappointed.
Joe Harker Mar 26, 2008, 05:21 AM It was probably worth it though :)
It would have been, if i hadn't fallen asleep before the race starting and waking up to Lewis Hamilton waving at the crowd!
I got up early for the Malaysia race and was a bit disappointed.
I know, got up, went downstairs, got a big cup of coke to keep me awake and it turn out to be a bad race! I really should watch the reruns, at least Bahrain isn't at some stupid hour in the morning. :)
