And of course, PA's response. (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/03/26)

I don't like this. It's like they stood at the top of the slippery slope, sprayed some extra lube on it, and started down in a brakeless bobsled.

I came in this thread thinking EA had turned into Blackwater and now I'm confused .

I don't see why it's a problem, it's just like how you have to pay for additional songs on Rock Band.

Moved to All Other Games.

This will maybe get pro and more serious gamers to move to games with more freedom, something EA don't seem to care about. Getting weapons by upgrades on ranked servers is ok, but you should be able to mod the game on unranked servers. Shame we can't do that in a such good game as Battlefield :(

No it's like having to pay for lefty mode or song endings: things that could have easily been implemented. Most additional songs were made after the game came out, confer no advantage to players, and barely affect performance at all. Finally, Rock Band has a huge library that comes free with the game, while EA wants to sell 10 weapons when the game only has 10-20 to begin with.

Consoles don't kill computer games: Computer game companies kill computer games.

Meh, I've never been interested in the Battlefield series anyways, and I regret buying BF1942 anthology.

IMO we need to go back to World War II with the BF series; 1942 was the best one, and they've gotten progressively worse since then.

Actually, no, 2142 wasn't worse than BF2.

I came in this thread thinking EA had turned into Blackwater and now I'm confused .

When I clicked the link it mentioned 'you can buy the guns with microtransactions' and had a picture of a funky, futuristic looking gun. At the moment I was quite surprised with how openly this kind of arms dealing was occurring.

Quite right!

and they've gotten progressively worse since then.

2142 was effectively a glorified BF2 set in the future. Problem with BF2 was that it had a brilliant concept, with far too few maps to make it memorable. I've said before, take the squad/communication system of BF2 and add it to the maps of BF1942 and you would have a brilliant game :D

According to this, the weapons will be unlocked at level 25 in the regular version and availiable immediately in the Gold Edition.
