I am running Windows XP pro and bought Civ IV a couple of weeks ago. I checked for updates and saw patch 1.74 was available. I downloaded it, then it had me close the game, which started the InstallShield installer. About half way through, an error popped up, and the install quit. I checked if the game would still run, and it wouldn't, saying that d3dx9_32.dll was missing. I downloaded the file, which allowed Civilization IV to get to the screen where it initializes the XML and python, but it then quit, saying it could start shader model. Furthermore, Add/Remove programs won't let me uninstall the program. Is there anything I can do?

Thankfully, getting the newest directx 9 fixed it.
