i'm running on windows vista for starters

i have the special edition and when i installed it first it worked fine no problem...

then i updated to play multiplayer...

then i had the direct x problem, but luckily these forums helped me fix that :)

ok now i have this problem...

the game loads up fine but when i go to actually start a scenario it goes to the loading screen then crashes to desktop.

any ideas?

what is the special edition? just Civ4 or also some expansion pack?
does it give you any error message when crashing? what kind of scenario, i.e. one that the game ships with or a custom one?

its called civilization 4 special edition...

no expansion packs just the game

just some extra content nothing special

and there is no message it just crashes right after i hit LAUNCH

now remember i fixed the direct x issue and before that it worked fine before i did the update....

now it doesn't work so i'm pissed ha

did you install any other patches before installing 1.74? Sometimes going directly from 1.00 to 1.74 fails and you might need to reinstall, patch to 1.61 first, then patch to 1.74
