View Full Version : Is there any way for Luchuirp to get the "subdue beasts" promotion?

Just that. I've got Acheron just sitting there waiting to be subdued, but I'm playing Luchuirp and I can't find any way to get that promotion.

Should be able to get it just fine on a scout IIRC. Be a bit tricky getting him weak enough for a scout to win though.

I tried it on a hunter, and I got up to what I thought were the prerequisites (level 3 combat, subdue animal), but the promotion wasn't available.

I believe that only Heroes and Beastmasters can get "Subdue Beasts."

That appears to be the case. Any chance of hiring a beastmaster as a Guild of the Nine mercenary?

<PromotionPrereq>PROMOTION_SUBDUE_ANIMAL</PromotionPrereq>
<PromotionPrereqOr1>PROMOTION_HERO</PromotionPrereqOr1>
<PromotionPrereqOr2>NONE</PromotionPrereqOr2>
<TechPrereq>TECH_ANIMAL_MASTERY</TechPrereq>
<PromotionPrereqOr3>NONE</PromotionPrereqOr3>
<PromotionPrereqOr4>NONE</PromotionPrereqOr4>
<PromotionPrereqAnd>PROMOTION_COMBAT3</PromotionPrereqAnd>

<UnitCombats>
<UnitCombat>
<UnitCombatType>UNITCOMBAT_RECON</UnitCombatType>
<bUnitCombat>1</bUnitCombat>
</UnitCombat>
</UnitCombats>

Those are all the relevant lines in the XML. So it should be available to any Recon unit with Combat 3 and Subdue Animal. Or Hero and Subdue Animal.

EDIT: Wait, nevermind... how it is written it requires all 3, everytime. Thus it is ONLY available to Hero units, but since a Beastmaster starts with it you get around that limitation :(

*&%$#!!! ;)

Well Acheron's going down... I'll at least have his hoard...

Is there any good reason why the Luchuirp don't have access to Beastmasters?

I guess you'll just have to try to capture a Beastmaster. Good luck with that :p

You could also hope to get the champion event to give the hero promotion to a recon unit, but your chances aren't good.

You could also try cheating, either in world builder or by saving the game, exiting, editing the xml to allow you to get Beastmasters (changing the promotion prereqs, etc), and reloading.

Personally I think that Yvain the Woodelf should also start with Subdue Beasts, and/or that disciples with subdue animal (just him and Druids) should be able to purchase the promotion the normal way. Of course, that would still mean just him unless you get luckly and have an event give the promotion to a druid, a unit that can upgrade to a druid, or unless you change the prereqs.

Well, I can think of one reason the Luchuirp wouldn't have access to that promotion. The mithril golem...

MagisterCultuum

Not quite sure how that is relevant. The Mithril Golem is an RoK UU after all, not a Luchuip one, even if it is much better under Luchuirp control (build in a city with Blasting Workshop and Gridlines, with plenty of Dwarven adepts for repairs). Also, it is really expensive, hard to keep the AC high enough, slow, and not as strong as it used to be (it was once strength 40, then is base strength was nerfed when it was given affinity, then the affinity was inexplicable dropped)

All true, but it's strength is still 25, compared to Acheron's 19. I'm not trying to argue with you, and you know this mod far better than I do, I'm just saying that it is a very strong unit that the Luchuirp have access to that other races that might be able to get Acheron don't (at least I'm guessing they don't).

Khazad also don't have access to it. So it's just a dwarven thing I guess :shrug:

(Khazad replace Beastmaster with Myconid, who starts with no promotions at all)

You can 'capture' Acheron? Damn, did not know that... damn!

Oh, ya, great fun. You have to attack him with a bunch of weak units before you kill him though so he has some experience when you subdue him. You need to be able to give him the mobility promotion.

You can also capture Eurabatres, if he ever shows up. That would just be too perfect: He goes through all the trouble to regain a physical body, and then he's enslaved and forced to destroy his beloved Kuriotates. :mwaha:

Didn't there used to be a wonder that you can build if you control all three dragons?

Mewtarthio

Seeing as that would require:

A) The Kuriotates and Sheaim to both be in the game,
B) The Kuriotates and Sheaim both reaching Divine Essence and building their dragons,
C) Acheron spawning reasonably close by to you--at least, close enough that you can get to him before someone else takes him out, and
D) You successfully capture all three--only possible if you've got Beastmasters or Recon Heroes, unless you manage to get lucky on the Capture rolls,

I highly doubt anything would be based on that.

No.

The closest thing I can think to this was the Wyrmhold, which was the shrine of the Cult of the Dragon back when tat was a religion.

I captured Mardagard or whatever the big monkey's name is recently, that was fun :) Am making use of a couple of captured Beasts of Agares too at the moment. Definitely love beastmasters!

By the way does anyone know how I am getting the odd illusionary frigate in my city? it seems to happen when I have enemy frigates bombarding my city I have a bunch of mimics there so assume its something funky one of them picked up, but can't find what it is. I'm playing as Balseraph, and also have a couple of FoL heroes there, just in case its someone else doing something odd.

By the way does anyone know how I am getting the odd illusionary frigate in my city? It's a property of the Hall of mirrors Balseraph unique building. Each turn it creates an illusion of one enemy unit if it is nearby.

It should be Dragon Monopoly Victory.

Actually any civ can get the Mithril Golem, they just need to be the founder of RoK, and with the slow Khazad and possibility of no dwarves isn't hard. So some civs can get both Acheron and the Mithril Golem...
