View Full Version : The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind Civfan333 Mar 31, 2008, 04:52 PM Who's heard of it? If so......who's played it before? leonel Mar 31, 2008, 06:25 PM Not only have I heard of it, I've played it and its sequel. Civfan333 Mar 31, 2008, 07:14 PM you mean oblivion? I can't play that.....(two reasons....I don't have a xbox 360 or PS3 or PC good enough and I'm not old enough......damn.......) But morrowind is a VERY cool game...... Chris85 Mar 31, 2008, 10:57 PM Dude, Morrowind is awesome. I haven't played it in several months, but I've played it for probably like 200 hours and have only gotten like halfway through the main quest, because I prefer going off and doing the other quests. Don't even get me started on mods. Civfan333 Apr 01, 2008, 01:05 AM yeah......I think it's one of the BEST game ever... And there's so much to do in it.... Harbringer Apr 01, 2008, 01:47 AM Took me 320 hours total to do everything in the game including expansions, I have my maxed orc charector sitting in Vivec(where Vivec is supposed to be standing:mischief:) with full daedric(which is WAYYYYYY harder to get than in oblivion) and a wakazashi. I love that game, but its become so burnt out by now, oblivion to, they need to come out with the fifth one soon:sad: Maniacal Apr 01, 2008, 03:07 AM I have no idea how many hours I lost to Morrowind, great game able to run on a crap computer :) We do have a thread for it, but it has well over 1000 posts. Civfan333 Apr 01, 2008, 09:57 PM ah........wow...........I haven't actually done much (well.....much for some but in morrowind not considered much) leonel Apr 01, 2008, 10:36 PM I've spent many a magical night and summer day during university exploring Vvanderfell. I think the reason I liked the game so much is that I had never experienced something like it before. Sure there was GTA, but the game map is only so small and you can't equip your character. I still play Oblivion on and off and I'm really looking forward to TES V. But Oblivion never made me feel the way that Morrowind did. I would even suggest that Morrowind was a spiritual experience for me. Civfan333 Apr 01, 2008, 10:40 PM wow.........I can't wait till I can play oblivion....but until then..... I finally got something better than my sucky silver dagger...... I just started one as a thief and I joined the Morag Tong so I got this green wild shardblade from the body. Civfan333 Apr 01, 2008, 10:41 PM damn, double post Chris85 Apr 02, 2008, 12:28 AM I've spent many a magical night and summer day during university exploring Vvanderfell. I think the reason I liked the game so much is that I had never experienced something like it before. Sure there was GTA, but the game map is only so small and you can't equip your character. I love how the map is so huge and open. I've only explored about 3/4 of Vvardenfell and that does even include the countless number of tombs, caves, and other nooks I probably missed so there's plenty of places I've yet to see. There's very few games out there that have that kind of atmosphere where you can immerse yourself into the world like Morrowind does. Kal'thzar Apr 02, 2008, 12:11 PM I preferred Oblivion, as I managed, without crashes or boredom setting in, to complete every single part of it. (sneaking in daedric armour is hard!). Moreover I like the movement aspect of it (or rather the quick move aspect), especially when you want to quickly progress a story line. Although much is to be said about exploring the enviroment, Ravens Rock (? can't remember the name now, the place overlooking the game, highest map point on it) is a really nice spot to visit. But Morrowing and Oblivion are the two top games of that genre for me, just can't beat that atmosphere. leonel Apr 02, 2008, 12:44 PM I love Morrowind but I absolutely hated the combat system. At least with Oblivion, I will hit my target if I am shooting my arrow at point blank range with the cross hairs between the eyes. Do you know how irritating it was to fire 4 arrows in a row into an enemy's chest but somehow completely miss? Luckymoose Apr 02, 2008, 12:58 PM The last time I played Morrowind I did the little ice island city quest where you become mayor. It was fun. Say_my_name Apr 02, 2008, 02:01 PM Got it last week, looks good so far. Civfan333 Apr 02, 2008, 07:58 PM I love Morrowind but I absolutely hated the combat system. At least with Oblivion, I will hit my target if I am shooting my arrow at point blank range with the cross hairs between the eyes. Do you know how irritating it was to fire 4 arrows in a row into an enemy's chest but somehow completely miss? yeah, that's pretty much the only reason I want oblivion....if only it was still rated T...... Maniacal Apr 02, 2008, 11:38 PM Yeah the combat is crap in morrowind, it's okay in Oblivion, but I HATE how whenever you shoot something in the head in Oblivion the arrow will appear down aronud the shoulders/neck! (Unless it's a corpse or inanimate) Izipo Apr 03, 2008, 02:12 PM Morrowind is one of my favorite games ever. Nothing compares to the atmosphere and the openness of this game. Even the music is awesome. Now, for some reason, I have Oblivion gold still in its wrapper since Christmas. Maybe I don't want to be disappointed, but I still haven't got around to installing it. Harbringer Apr 03, 2008, 07:10 PM If it wasn't for the stupid missing thing in morrowind I would have thought it was superior to Oblivion, but as it stands, Oblivion is better. It just annoys me to watch my sword go rite through a guy and I somehow miss. I understand its mechanically based, but they could have at least changed the animation to show your charector missing. Civfan333 Apr 03, 2008, 09:05 PM yeah, I get annoyed by that for some reason...... Maniacal Apr 04, 2008, 12:51 AM If it wasn't for the stupid missing thing in morrowind I would have thought it was superior to Oblivion, but as it stands, Oblivion is better. It just annoys me to watch my sword go rite through a guy and I somehow miss. I understand its mechanically based, but they could have at least changed the animation to show your charector missing. ? I don't recall hitting anyone and not dealing damage except for when I'm right up against them (which I've seen in several other games) Harbringer Apr 04, 2008, 01:05 AM Did you cheat and put your charectors blade skill up to 100? Maniacal Apr 04, 2008, 06:12 PM Did you cheat and put your charectors blade skill up to 100? Only for one charactor, but not the other ones nor the one I made and played for several hours a few weeks ago. Civfan333 Apr 04, 2008, 08:02 PM interesting.......I've got like a 40-something skill with long blades and I still miss nearly 50% of the time..... Maniacal Apr 05, 2008, 02:27 AM Maybe I just never noticed it, might have interpreted it as weapon reach and small hitboxes. But I dunno, never seemd like regualr hits that should have hit missed. Civfan333 Apr 05, 2008, 02:32 AM hmmmmmmmm......so you've never tried to like shoot a person at point blank for no reason and find you've missed? Maniacal Apr 05, 2008, 03:11 AM hmmmmmmmm......so you've never tried to like shoot a person at point blank for no reason and find you've missed? As I mentioned above (although not too specificaly) it's happened when shooting (or even hitting them sometimes) them really really close (like touching basically), but I've seen that happen in other games. (Mount&Blade had a problem with that a couple of times, but it's been fixed, it had to do with the speed of the projectile and how close you fired it). Harbringer Apr 05, 2008, 12:13 PM Your games tweaked then or something, you only get 100% hits at blade skill 100, its ridiculous, its my biggest grievance with Morrowind. Like others have said, if it was the oblivion engine with the morrowind world then it would be gaming bliss. Civfan333 Apr 07, 2008, 01:05 PM yeah, then all would be right in Elder Scrolls..... Say_my_name Apr 07, 2008, 03:56 PM What's so bad about the combat? Can't see any problem with it, though I haven't tried ranged combat till now. Harbringer Apr 07, 2008, 11:16 PM What's so bad about the combat? Can't see any problem with it, though I haven't tried ranged combat till now. You swing at a guy with your sword, watch it go rite through him, and somehow "miss". Say_my_name Apr 08, 2008, 12:46 PM Uh, and? There are enough RPGs out where you swing right through your enemy and can still miss. Civfan333 Apr 08, 2008, 07:48 PM I know, but it reflects worse here because if it just had a combat system more like oblivion or something, this would be a even MORE perfect game..... Harbringer Apr 08, 2008, 08:33 PM Uh, and? There are enough RPGs out where you swing right through your enemy and can still miss. But those are turn based, so it makes more sence, and either way its still dumb and on top of all that its retarded either way, if theres a connect, it should connect. Civfan333 Apr 08, 2008, 08:39 PM yeah, that's what I think...... leonel Apr 09, 2008, 05:49 PM But those are turn based, so it makes more sence, and either way its still dumb and on top of all that its retarded either way, if theres a connect, it should connect. If the real world had a combat system like Morrowind, there'd be a lot fewer dead people today. :D Harbringer Apr 09, 2008, 10:37 PM If the real world had a combat system like Morrowind, there'd be a lot fewer dead people today. :D Ya, *wire snaps* metal beam clearly lands on head, *miss*. Civfan333 Apr 10, 2008, 01:16 AM wtf I'd say, that'd be weird, but good...... leonel Apr 10, 2008, 12:29 PM Ya, *wire snaps* metal beam clearly lands on head, *miss*. Or Hiroshima. *drop* *BOOOOOOOM!!!* *miss* Maniacal Apr 10, 2008, 12:48 PM Or Hiroshima. *drop* *BOOOOOOOM!!!* *miss* That really doesn't make sense. So all the buildings were destroyed, but weren't? Chris85 Apr 10, 2008, 12:48 PM Hiroshima probably had an agility rating of like 95 or something. leonel Apr 10, 2008, 01:09 PM And it was America's first nuke so we had like a Nuke rating of 1. Civfan333 Apr 10, 2008, 01:54 PM ok......but it still hit....and can you get like a 100 for everything? Swein Forkbeard Jun 23, 2008, 10:26 AM Hey, how do you save your game in Morrowind? And should I install the exp packs before or after completing Morrowind? Maniacal Jun 23, 2008, 12:09 PM Hey, how do you save your game in Morrowind? And should I install the exp packs before or after completing Morrowind? /format c . Chris85 Jun 23, 2008, 12:24 PM Hey, how do you save your game in Morrowind? And should I install the exp packs before or after completing Morrowind? You've gotta be kidding me. Hit ESC and then click on SAVE. It would of been better installing the expansions before, since they fix a lot of bugs that were in the original. Swein Forkbeard Jun 23, 2008, 02:26 PM Who's heard of it? If so......who's played it before? Well, I got Morrowind just because of that DUMB British poll about the top PC games. Come one, that list sucked. StarCraft at #59?! Oh, please! Grim Fandango lower than Age of Empires? (technically I shouldn't be ranting about that since I own AoE and not GF). SECRET OF MONKEY ISLAND as the highest adventure game? CIVILIZATION IV at #3? Here were the top ten, anyway. 1. Deus Ex (Eidos, 2000) 2. Half-Life 2 (Vivendi, 2004) 3. Civilization IV (Take Two, 2005) 4. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (Bethesda, 2002) 5. Half-Life (Sierra, 1998) 6. Rome: Total War (Activision, 2004) 7. System Shock 2 (EA, 1999) 8. DOOM (id, 1993) 9. Battlefield 2 (EA, 2005) 10. Swein Forkbeard Jun 23, 2008, 09:59 PM That is the reason for me owning Morrowind. And this thread is about that game. Get it? Bigfoot3814 Jun 24, 2008, 08:34 AM That is the reason for me owning Morrowind. And this thread is about that game. Get it? You lousy stupid SOB. Swein go home. Stormrage Jun 26, 2008, 03:57 PM Girls, play nice. Now, this is might interest some of you TES fans: http://postalmodding.proboards105.com/index.cgi?board=sovvm&action=display&thread=44 And this: http://oblivion.silgrad.com/ And this: http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=834435&hl=sheogorad (I am not mentioning Morroblivion for a reason, and that is cos its bugged out to hell, and its illegal) Abaddon Jul 01, 2008, 03:21 PM I've finally got a laptop that can play Morrowind.. any suggested mods? Stormrage Jul 01, 2008, 04:06 PM I tried hundreds of mods for Morrowind, the ones I really liked were from the Knight of the Nine series, Balmora Market or what was it called, facial texture mods.. Oh and that, what was it called, the house near Vivec with a secret huge basement training facility with gimmicks and a friggin running track. I used to run like an idiot in there to get my Athletics up, it was more fun than the swimming pool, which it also had. Just go to Planet Elderscrolls and check out the Hall of Fame for Morrowind :) Abaddon Jul 01, 2008, 05:21 PM Will do. Ones I remeber liking was Childen of Morrowind, texture mods, Clothing, Better bodies, wild sliltwalkers.. Civfan333 Nov 05, 2008, 07:32 PM 1. Deus Ex (Eidos, 2000) 2. Half-Life 2 (Vivendi, 2004) 3. Civilization IV (Take Two, 2005) 4. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (Bethesda, 2002) 5. Half-Life (Sierra, 1998) 6. Rome: Total War (Activision, 2004) 7. System Shock 2 (EA, 1999) 8. DOOM (id, 1993) 9. Battlefield 2 (EA, 2005) 10. The Secret of Monkey Island (LucasArts, 1990) dude, you killed my thread....... anyway, well after completing the main quest, I decided to see if I can kill everyone in the game...........you can! Abaddon Nov 06, 2008, 08:29 AM Got bored once I was sent to Vivec to find those three people.. damn Vivec is hard to get around! philippe Nov 06, 2008, 11:09 AM I remember on how I broke the main quest by murdering Vivec. Serutan Nov 06, 2008, 01:22 PM I remember on how I broke the main quest by murdering Vivec. Actually, it doesn't break the main quest. You can go to that last Dwemer, and he can activate the weapons for you. Just make sure you have plenty of health... Civfan333 Nov 07, 2008, 05:14 PM well, do you think I should get the PC version, I have it for the xbox....... Maniacal Nov 07, 2008, 05:27 PM Yes, Yes, Yes! Harbringer Nov 07, 2008, 05:52 PM The PC version has the mods which quite frankly, triple the value of the game. Civfan333 Nov 07, 2008, 07:41 PM ok, I guess I'm gonna get it Chukchi Husky Nov 08, 2008, 07:36 AM The PC version has the mods which quite frankly, triple the value of the game.Someone once told me that mods are pointless for Morrowind because they ruin the charm of the game. Maniacal Nov 08, 2008, 10:14 AM Someone once told me that mods are pointless for Morrowind because they ruin the charm of the game. It really depends on the mod and your personal wants and opinions. @Civfan333: Buy the Game of the Year Edition, as it has the two expansions as well. Harbringer Nov 08, 2008, 11:24 AM And its like 9.99 U.S, and like, 13.99 canadian...... Civfan333 Nov 08, 2008, 05:34 PM yeah, I bought it! it's WAY faster than on the xbox. DBear Nov 11, 2008, 10:15 PM Damn, Harbinger. I paid $19.99 for GotY at Gamestop. Still an excellent purchase for $20. Running a Nord Crusader right now. Sly-God Loki Nov 17, 2008, 06:59 AM I could not imagine playing Morrowind without mods. The game can be made so beautiful, and so much more emmersive! MCA and COM are a MUST! |
