View Full Version : SVN install help needed
ChrisShaffer Mar 31, 2008, 10:04 PM Boy, this thing is hard to install. I've read through multiple forum postings, with lots of confused people... has anyone considered making a step-by-step without-missing-any-pieces install guide?
So, I've checked out everything with SVN.
In this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword
I have these directories:
Copy of CustomAssets
CustomAssets
BUG MODS\BUG Mod
BUG MODS\Extra Stuff
BUG MODS\Help File
BUG MODS\BAT Mod
And of course, within the SVN checked out folders, I have all the other pieces of the mods.
The instructions for install talk about using the exe, or talk about putting a zip file in a folder. In the SVN files I downloaded, there are no exe or zip files.
I'd like to install BAT with BUG. Does BAT include BUG? Do I need to install both? The BUG mod install directions talk about putting files into the BtS root folder, while the BAT mod install directions talk about putting files in the BtS mods folder. Which is the right way to do it?

I'd like to install BAT with BUG. Does BAT include BUG?Yes. Do I need to install both? No. The BUG mod install directions talk about putting files into the BtS root folder, while the BAT mod install directions talk about putting files in the BtS mods folder. Which is the right way to do it?BAT must be placed under Mods, as it utilises Modular Loading, and as it includes BUG, you do not need to install it separately.
ChrisShaffer Apr 01, 2008, 09:46 AM So there isn't any way to install BAT in CustomAssets, so it can be loaded every time I play?
NikNaks Apr 01, 2008, 09:47 AM No, but you can make it load every time as a mod by changing your 'ini' file.
ChrisShaffer Apr 01, 2008, 10:10 AM So, when I load the BAT mod, it seems to be working OK - the settler looks much nicer.
However, alt-ctrl-O doesn't do anything - it seems that BUG isn't actually included in it???
ChrisShaffer Apr 01, 2008, 10:12 AM No, but you can make it load every time as a mod by changing your 'ini' file.
That's not quite what I wanted - I was hoping for something like Blue Marble, that would be active when loading other mods.
Anthrax Apr 02, 2008, 05:30 PM originally posted by alerum68 in another thread.....
If you wish to install The BUG Mod, or The BATty BUG, in a MOD folder as opposed to the CustomAssets folder, then you MUST ensure the name of the MOD directory is "BUG Mod" or "BAT Mod". Anything else will cause the game to create an .INI file named what you named it... ie- If you named the directory just BUG, the .INI file will be named BUG.INI. This will cause the options tab to lock up as it's seeking out Bug MOD.INI, and can't find it.
hope it helps.......

Thanks, but that's unrelated to the problems I was having. It's fairly clear from my digging through the files that the SVN version of the BAT mod does not include BUG. Perhaps the installable file includes both, but the SVN doesn't.
alerum68 Apr 02, 2008, 11:39 PM Since the SVN is our code base, not an official public release, and it is a really pain to update BUG within BAT every time there is an update for it, we do not include BUG within BAT on the SVN. The official releases will contain BUG however. Since the SVN just a repository for our code, we will not be updating the information for this, and I don't believe we ever stated on the forum or our website that the SVN will contain BUG within BAT. You can manually merge the two yourself if you desire though, or just wait until the file finishes uploading.:)
ChrisShaffer Apr 03, 2008, 06:10 AM Thanks.
I note that NikNaks93 stated, in response to my question, in post #2 above, that the SVN version of BAT included BUG.
What I ended up doing was:
1) Synchronize SVN
2) Back up CustomAssets
3) Export the BUG folder to \documents\bts\
4) Export the BAT folder to \documents\bts\MODS
5) Load BAT as a mod
Unfortunately, this means I can't load other mods with BAT. I also have to swap out CustomAssets to turn off BUG.
But anyway, I got it to work, and it's pretty good - very nice work.
NikNaks Apr 03, 2008, 06:14 AM I was evidently confused, and I apologize.
ChrisShaffer Apr 03, 2008, 06:20 AM No problem - I figured it out.
I still think it would be a good idea for the project to put step by step instructions on the project home page.
alerum68 Apr 03, 2008, 08:38 AM For the SVN we do have step-by-step instructions on how to set it up. Once you get on the SVN you're within the code, not a full release. Things are going to be different, and we can't keep up with changed made on there and keeping post up to date. The project home page is more of a gateway to the actual release files, with basic information. I don't think we even have a reference to the SVN on the home page. That we put up as a courtesy to the users of CFC.
Anyway, You should be able to add any modular MOD you'd like to BAT. mods that are not modular will have to be merged in to the BAT mod manual, but it's the same as if we had made it a CustomAssets mod, so in reality it's probably going to be easier to add mods to BAT then if we had done CustomAssets.
ChrisShaffer Apr 03, 2008, 09:10 AM For the SVN we do have step-by-step instructions on how to set it up.
Really? Where?
Sam_Yeager Apr 03, 2008, 12:54 PM Really? Where?
Perhaps he means here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=5904491&postcount=1)? :dunno:
ChrisShaffer Apr 03, 2008, 01:46 PM Yeah, well... that's not a detailed install guide. The part I'm suggesting needs to be detailed is contained in step 9:
To install you just have to use the Export command from within the TortoiseSVN context menu from inside Explorer.
A detailed install guide would tell you where to export the various files, eh? That was the primary question I had, and the one I've seen several people ask (and get answered to varying degrees) on other threads on this forum.
alerum68 Apr 03, 2008, 03:10 PM http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/ :) OR if you feel your not up to using the SVN, the latest install files are on our home page. The only other option I see is making the SVN private again.
ruff_hi Apr 04, 2008, 09:35 AM I also have to swap out CustomAssets to turn off BUG.Chris - take a look at my customassets swapper utility. My sig has a link to mods / tools that I use (that will take you to my web site) - there you will find a list of utilities that I have created and that link will take you back to CFC. Sure - a round about way of doing it, but I got pinged for an overly long sig before and this is the shortest way I could do it.

I have no problems using SVN (I'm a Sourceforge developer) and your directions for using it are just fine.
The part that I said needed more explication is step 9, which does not say where to export the files.
ChrisShaffer Apr 04, 2008, 09:42 AM Chris - take a look at my customassets swapper utility.
Very nice, thanks.
