Quintillus Apr 02, 2008, 12:55 AM Man, a tough choice. They're all tough, and that Zaken is especially impressive. But in the end I have to go with the Roman Armored Cruiser - that one gave a real wow factor the first time I saw it. Never seen a ship like it before.
Great job all around.
Blue Monkey Apr 02, 2008, 01:18 AM As usual every single unit deserves to win. Zaken gets my vote. I hope ruby_sauce keeps making "out of left field" units as long as I'm alive.
Gary Childress Apr 02, 2008, 05:03 AM This was a very, very tough choice between the armored cruiser and the Zaken for me. I went with the armored cruiser but the Zaken had to have been a tough animation to do also. Difficult decision.
Bjornlo Apr 02, 2008, 10:41 AM I've been hemming and hawing over which one to vote for. It is a very solid field.
Should I go with one of the historical units? The cool alt-history one? That fantasy one is unique, clever and well done... argh.
I voted for Sandris in the end as "Unitaker of the Month."
Antiochus VII Apr 02, 2008, 05:05 PM Yaaaaahhhh! Hardest choice I've ever seen! I have to say Wyrmshadow wins on artistic merit but WOW!
CC-2224 Apr 02, 2008, 06:42 PM I have to vote for Wyrmshadow, the cruiser is very striking and well-designed.
Hikaro Takayama Apr 02, 2008, 09:36 PM I also voted for the Roman Cruiser.... It looks like Wyrm may indeed be the Unitaker of the month. :D
Wyrmshadow Apr 03, 2008, 12:44 AM I just noticed that 'taker part.
This month's contest..
hmmmmm lemme see....
Infantry, or Infantry, or Infantry, or Infantry, or a boat?
Yes I entered it because I got a lot of positive feedback for it. And it look's as if it's paying off.
Mithadan Apr 03, 2008, 12:46 AM I love the Assegai man, but I had to give it to the up 'n coming Micaelus and all the effort he put into getting that one attack animation just so.
Edit: just noticed that Wyrmshadow's ship isn't posted in the unit forums. This is as usual, I take it?

It is, just not seperately. I hope you realize by now that I like to group my units along themes in mega-threads. So that they are easy to find.
Hikaro Takayama Apr 03, 2008, 11:03 AM Yeah, it's in a "modern Roman Empire" thread or something like that....
Mithadan Apr 03, 2008, 11:39 AM Ah yes, I forgot about that thread, but having been reminded, I now recall it.
Gen. Rommel Apr 03, 2008, 06:40 PM Wyrmshadow's cruiser for me as well. But I must admit (and agree), this is one damn hard decision to really feel 100% positive about. But the detail (which is quite honestly insane, much to my liking) is what got me in the end.
Sandris' Aztec Eagle Warrior also looks very striking and vivid, so it was indeed a close second.
Good job to all the others though, please keep up your good work! We can only profit from it. :goodjob:
againsttheflow Apr 03, 2008, 07:39 PM :hmm: mmh... :undecide: uhh... err... :scared: ahhh :ack:
Mike gets my vote, barely.
Really nice work.

yea well, I cant do vehicles, I can only do infantry units >_<
in the coming weeks I have alot of tests, maybe after those I can make some time to start on my next unit again :p
Orthanc Apr 09, 2008, 09:33 AM Looks like a win for Wyrmshadow, congrats!
Micaelus Apr 09, 2008, 10:40 AM Congrats to Wyrmshadow for a well-deserved win! What a fantastic concept, and of course, extremely well executed!
And thanks for those who thought my work was worthy - makes a guy feel good!
Plotinus Apr 09, 2008, 11:34 AM Looks like a win for the Romans there - of course I think that unit could easily take out the others all at the same time. Good skills.
Flamand Apr 09, 2008, 11:34 AM Congratulations with your victory Wyrmshadow!

Blue Monkey Apr 09, 2008, 11:54 AM Congratulations to Wyrmshadow.
And to ruby_sauce, Micaelus, & Sandris (three of the newest to the unit making fraternity): you have all certainly achieved high quality while retaining your individual approaches. Please keep on doing what you are already doing that makes your units unique. It took a lot of work & repeated entries before I began to do well in the voting; the praise you receive is just as genuine as how long your place is in the bar graph.
Plotinus Apr 09, 2008, 12:12 PM The way I see it, to get any votes at all is a victory, because it means that there are some people who think your unit was the best of all. Which even if they're in a minority isn't too shabby.

Definitely a good way of seeing it! One shouldn't assume, just because they didn't win, that their unit isn't beeing cherished by other members. In fact, who knows, depending on whether certain members had been active while others not active, that the result could have been completely different. Essentially, one is at the mercy of those who actually decide to vote...which may or may not mirror the actual public opinion, if say everyone was forced to vote.
Okay, I think I'm rambling again... :crazyeye:
Wyrmshadow Apr 09, 2008, 03:13 PM ooohhhh Neat.
Thank you for the poeple that took the time to vote.

Okay, I think I'm rambling again... :crazyeye:In my case this month, although I don't know the degree of overlap, votes=13 & downloads during voting period=16. I've learned to value the download numbers more than the votes. Ultimately, as many of the people with vastly more experience here have said "make what makes you happy".

Also a very valid point. The downloads should reveal a much more accurate reflection of the unit's popularity, since popularity is only really measured by the desire of other members to want to have the unit on their harddrive.
And I totally agree...as long as you are personally happy with the things you are creating, that's all that essentially matters. I mean, you're at least being nice enough to share your work with others. Though, without everyone sharing, this community wouldn't be as tightly-knit as it is, so I'm glad that this is the case. :D
againsttheflow Apr 09, 2008, 06:03 PM You have to remember too that steam punk techs aren't exactly something that one downloads for any ol' mod. The techs just add an attraction factor for the mod when it comes out. :)
Congrats Wyrm. :)
Gary Childress Apr 09, 2008, 07:56 PM Congratulations Wyrmshadow and to everyone who entered a unit. Unit making is not an easy thing and good quality unit making is even harder. All the units entered were of good quality. Congratulations on all your efforts to make Civ III an even better game. :goodjob:
Yoda Power Apr 10, 2008, 03:26 AM Also a very valid point. The downloads should reveal a much more accurate reflection of the unit's popularity, since popularity is only really measured by the desire of other members to want to have the unit on their harddrive.

I disagree. There is a lot of awesome things made that I never download, since I don't have any immediate use for it. There's also some crap out there that I download, because I have too.

... no, wait... :hmm:

True, but generally speaking, what I mean is the necessity for any given unit, and not the immediate "that's cool" factor. Of course there are a ton of units that I consider amazing and beautiful, but I simply don't have uses for them (yet), meaning their importance to me personally is less than for a unit that I use often.
Wyrmshadow Apr 11, 2008, 04:03 AM I don't use any units because I don't have time to play. But that doesn't mean I can't appreciate work and artistry when I see it. Except when I'm in the running, I need all the votes I can get.
BadKharma Apr 11, 2008, 08:07 PM Congratulations Wyrmshadow on a well deserved win. Aaglo I love your units although other than the ships I cannot find a use for most of them because they are sci-fi / fantasy but that doesnt mean I do not appreciate the artistry and work you put into them.
ruby_sauce Apr 28, 2008, 02:05 PM a little late post, but I just want to say that I am happy enough with at least 1 vote, and at least 1 download, because then I know I made at least one other person happy with my creations :). and that is, IMHO, enough for me :)
