View Full Version : «Щука» (Shchuka class, alias ShCh or SC, russian ww2 sub)
The_Coyote Apr 02, 2008, 11:07 AM like i said, i try to give some nation unique subs for the WW2. Here is russian one. The Shchuka class (to be exact: Shchuka class - X-series):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shchuka_class_submarine
the model has 1274 vertices, 1224 triangles, a 256 texture and uses the SC (changed submarine) animation, separate download (see post 12)
scale for picture was: 0.5
Ciao
The_Coyote
Edit: new nif (brighter) with new texture added, more details on deck (thanks to Refar for the advice) [SC_bright.zip]
Edit2: added changed submarine animation, see post 12 for details and download
Edit3: added to database: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=9141, deleted files in opening post and added complete animation (thanks Refar) in opening post
Gaius Octavius Apr 02, 2008, 11:43 AM A very nice unit. :)
GeoModder Apr 02, 2008, 11:45 AM Ah, the first of your ethnic subs, Coyote? :D
Gaius Octavius Apr 02, 2008, 11:49 AM Any chance for an American Gato class or a British S class sub next? :D
JEELEN Apr 02, 2008, 12:42 PM Looking :cooool:, Coyote! Keep it up!
PSYX Apr 02, 2008, 12:57 PM Wau. When I was a child, I have this toy :)
Beautifulll! Thx
The_Coyote Apr 02, 2008, 04:22 PM thanks! :) has someone a idea why the deck looks so unicolour in game (compared with nifscoope), are the painted details to small for the game?
Any chance for an American Gato class or a British S class sub next? :D
also my planes are so far:
finally two submarines classes for russia, great britian, us, japan, french and germany, a ocean and a small sub. I´m still not sure which models will be selected, but
russian: this one, small: m-class
us: Gato class is on my to do list, small: ?
british: i´m still not sure if i will make the s or the t class (will depend on the planes i find), small: v-class
japan: B class, small: ?
french: Redoutable class, small: sirene class
because germany already has the typ VII there is only need for a bigger one, the IX (the XXI perhaps will follow later as bonus, XXIII already exists)
3 side views are wellcomed (side views are easy to find, but top and front ...), especially for the allied ships (ironical it´s much easier for me to find russian planes than us or british, i didn´t knew that google changed the owner ;) )
@ GeoModder
the second, you must missed the polish sub ORP Orzeł (1939) ;)
Refar Apr 03, 2008, 01:03 AM Looks nice.
The paited details - you could make them bigger - two rows of bigger dents instead of the for tiny ones. Also increase the spacing a bit anf make the colors more different (like a bit lightr hull and a bit darker detail).
Otherwise making her have shader and using a gloss map might help. Would requiere the mesh to have skin instance however.
The_Coyote Apr 03, 2008, 06:08 PM @ Refar
thanks for the advice. i will try and post the results later
The_Coyote Apr 06, 2008, 08:02 AM thanks again Refar
tried what you said (and lightend the entire texure) and found the result is how i planed it, see pic, download first post
the model top right is the old skin for comparision
GeoModder Apr 06, 2008, 04:01 PM @ GeoModder

Sorry.
The_Coyote Apr 06, 2008, 05:40 PM created an changed version of the submarine animation (changed dive deep, middle between Standard and Gato). Still not perfect but better than before, see pic
Edit: added to opening post (also included in DB download)
Thomas SG Apr 15, 2008, 07:04 AM Dear Coyote,
I fear there is a problem with your animation. Sometimes when your sub shoots there are red globs. I'll try to make a screen. Can you explain or fix it?
€: I wasn't successful with a screen from the globes but at the moment there is another problem - the command buttons are missing. But only at your sub! Can you help me? Here is a screen
Refar Apr 15, 2008, 07:32 AM This has to be a problem with your XML definition. There is no way to make the buttons disappear by editing the model (other than making the model crash the game of course )
The pinkish things might be a missing texture on the torpedos.
Thomas SG Apr 15, 2008, 07:37 AM I don't think so. If I use the standard submarine kfm and animations it looks like this... Everything is okay. And I have just changed the kfm path. And my path was right before because all actions were done right (I gave the command by mouse and keyboard).
Thomas SG Apr 15, 2008, 07:39 AM The pinkish things might be a missing texture on the torpedos.
Okay, but why does it appear only sometimes?
Refar Apr 15, 2008, 08:22 AM The described behaviour is one seen when files are missing or path's set wrong, that's why i assumed XML error.
But you might be right after all... I get the feeling the KFM file might be broken somehow. There were also 2 animation files missing (run and one damage state missing...).
I renamed the new animations (.KF) to use the original submarine KFM and replaced the missing KF files. Seems to work now. Also put the Submarine_Torpedo.nif and the needed texture in the folder... I think that's what made the attack animation look odd. No idea why it would only strike sometimes tho.
Try those files...
Thomas SG Apr 15, 2008, 08:45 AM I've never seen red globes again, but that must not mean anything. But the buttons are still missing. The gato animations und the standard sub animations work fine. Here a screen of your unit...
€: Surprise, also I've done dozen of battles and everything was fine here is a screen with red globes. But to my surprise both subs fire red globes. But even only one time! The torpedos before and after those were okay!!!! The right sub used the gato animation and the left the standard sub animations. Any idea?
Thomas SG Apr 15, 2008, 09:02 AM I made one more test. If I use another sub than gato with gato animations the buttons disappear. Gato itself is okay.
My subs have a firststrikechance, may that cause the problem with the globes?
Refar Apr 15, 2008, 09:08 AM The archive i uploaded comes staight from my CustomAssets folder and its working fine - the buttons are there, the unit is moving, shooting, ...
You must be missing sometinh in your XML...
Here's the XML - piece from ArtDefine_Units (i replaced the normal submarine art with the SC):
EDIT: Now when i read you above post about the gato... Perhaps some kind of weird interference from using both units together... Never heard of this before...

Those red thingies are not missing texture. To be honest i have no idea, what they are... Did you had this happen ever before ? Are you trying to put this in some king of bigger mod ? (Like adding a ton of other units and perhaps changing some special effect defines ??)
Thomas SG Apr 15, 2008, 09:22 AM Sorry, less time - short answer.
No never seen it before. Yes, bigger mod (my mod) - Community Civ V [CCV] from Germany. ;)
Must be torpedos because it moves like torpedos and the globes only appear at the beginning of a battle! That's why I'm asking if my firststrikechance can cause the problem. That would explain why it only happens sometimes.
My XML seems to be okay, but I'm working modular. May that be a problem? Why?
Thomas
€: Thanks for help and all ideas but I will be away for some hours now. Bye.
The_Coyote Apr 15, 2008, 01:11 PM sorry i can´t repeat the error by me, but first, Refar is right, both sub animations (Gato and SC) lack the two files, i will reload both later (thanks for finding this out Refar, forget to unpack one pak  [(i think they will be reloaded in around 3 hours - as quick help, you can also make it by yourself, only copy the two files from the standard sub animation which are not part of the gato animation and rename them after the sheme)]).
Perhaps your problem is caused because of the missing files? i tested it in my test mod, where all subs are included using this custom animation and all had symbols and when attacking there where no errors.
try it with the updated animations, i hope you still have the standard sub there, because some files used are used from there (e.g. the torpedo nif is there).
As last idea, it could also be still a texture or other missing file error, it looks like the position where the bubbles should be, perhaps as last hope copy the new subs all in the submarine folder (or copy the submarine files to all other folders) and look if it work
You could also try to use only the standard animation beside the the dive deep is exact the same and see if it works then.
Edit: After rereading refars porst, another options, there could be a problem with the kfm file, copy the standard kfm file to the new sub folders and exchange the SC or Gato with submarine by all .kf files (and then you also you the submarine.nif there or must rename the sc.nif )
If your first strike does something? i don´t know, you could also try it without this it and see what happens.
i´m still a noob considering modeling and especially animation and most important how the thinks work in civ, so sorry if i can´t help you more
@ refar
yes, as i started i thought not to rename the files (but then i thought there could be perhaps a problem with same named animation and how to regonize later which is which [and SC is shorter as submarine_middle_...])
@ all
has someone else the same or similar errors with the animations? or works it like it should?
Thomas SG Apr 15, 2008, 03:16 PM First result. I gave all subs the standard sub animation and all are working fine. All buttons are seen and there were no red globes (I did 10 battles in each combination of my 4 different subs).
So, there must be a problem with your kfm and animations, I fear. Didn't have a closer look yet. Did you chance the paths in the kfm? Or have you just renamed the .kf files?
The_Coyote Apr 15, 2008, 03:52 PM strange, i made the same with all my subs testest 10 fights and all worked right.
what i did, with the KFMconverter i edited the submarine KFM (only changed the name of the .kf files and the linked model) and exported the result. Next i only changed one number in each of the renamed .kf files (the translation which controls how deep the sub dives). That was all, the rest is standard still sub, so i have no further idea where the failure could be [if it animation related then i only see two options, error in the KFM file, solution idea is in my last post, error happens while saving the .kf file with Nifskope, then i see no solution and the standard sub animation must be used :(]
Have you fixed your Gato animation? (edit: fixed dl in the openig post of the gato thread)
Sorry that i haven´t better news for you
Thomas SG Apr 15, 2008, 04:57 PM Okay. Please tell me what number has to be changed for the diving depth. I'll try to make my own animations. Maybe I'll find out what causes the problem.
The_Coyote Apr 15, 2008, 05:06 PM the node is submarine_dummy, then in the files of the animation where the sub is dived you have to change translation by the node controlling the sumbarine_dummy (standard: ~ 21, gato need ~27). You can look at the kf files to see the numbers.
the only different part is the fortifyA (iirc) there is no translation and i changed what seems to be suitable (see the kfs, i don´t remember the exact name).
Thats all (and the reason why i don´t understand why it not works)
Before making it yourself can you try the following, add all submarine files to the folder where the new animations are (the idea [but really only one], perhaps there is a problem with modular loading and using existing files of the game)
Ciao
The_Coyote
Edit: you tested sub against sub? i only tested against surface ships so far, so i made the same sub against sub (total 50 battles) and it worked how it should. So i´m not able to reproduce the problem.
