If I try to go to the advanced -> options menu from the main menu , it appears that some of the options just disappeared... The 'audio' and 'other' menus are completely empty and the graphics menu is partially empty.
How can this be? What can I do to fix this?

Hi Ori,
I searched these forums about similar problems and my problem is solved due to a solution you gave :)...
I just reinstalled everything and it's all working perfectly again.
Thanks anyway! :goodjob:

Hi Ori,
Cheers for getting back. Me and my mate got round it by installing his version and then running the game with my disk in the PC. It seemed to work and i got my audio options back. It also allowed three of us to mutli-play (which we thought it wouldn't because we where effectivly using the same version) It still means that my disk will not load. I will post a screen shot of my build this evening (at work at mo) and if you could spread some light on the issue, i would be grateful. Disk was brought of e-bay so i guess it could have come from anywhere. We are thinking we got caught up with different updates/versions, but i am not really sure...again tho, thanks for listening, i was contemplating giving up Civ last night!!! (hangs head in shame)

the about this build thing only shows what patch version is currently installed. If you reinstalled this won't be too informative.
But my guess is that somehow your original install and subsequent patch failed to install properly and missed/messed up some xml files that are required for the options screen to come up properly. Usually this is caused by an incomplete 3.13 patch and solved by a complete reinstall. The fact that it runs with your disk shows that safedisk recognizes your disk as a genuine one so I won't worry about a counterfeit if that was what you were hinting at :)
