I've seen more and more calls butchered this year than ever. Inconsistent calls behind the plate are rampant.
I've sat here the last three days and watched the umpires give a series between the Diamondbacks and the Dodgers to Arizona. They might as well not even play the games. Let the umpires vote before the game who they want to win and leave it at that!

Well, for better then 30 years I have heard complaints about umps, they are a lot better now then 10 years ago, but a lot of calls are more then questionable.
It seems balls and strikes are decided based on what each ump feels like calling that particular day.

I know what you mean AoA. I was watching the ChiSox-Braves series a few weeks ago and a pitch actually hit the front of the plate, Durham didn't even flinch swinging, and it was a strike...... The "if ya argue balls and strikes, if ya point out pitch locations w/ your bat, or if ya give the ump a dirty look after a strikeout, you're thrown out of the game" rule seems to make umps not even give a darn if they make good calls.

Since the umps can't be questioned and their say is final with no TV replays being looked at like in the NFL, they basically don't have to work. Think about how much easier your job would be if quality didn't count. That's what it's like for the umps, and often I wonder if they were even paying attention to the play when it happened.

Did anybody else see the replays of the Christian Guzman, Twins SS, strikeout the other day?
He had stepped away from the plate and was adjusting himself, as players tend to do, when the umpire got irritated with him and motioned for the pitcher to throw, even though Guzman was about 8 feet away from the box. By the time the pitch got there, Guzman was about 2 feet out of the box still, and the umpire called it a strike, striking him out. Unbelievable. Some umpires think that they're the show. Guzman should have beaten him to death with the bat, right there.

At least your precious Dodgers took one game from the D-Backs...:)
Too bad that they won't make the playoffs though;).
The Umps are getting a shade rowdier these days it seems... But all in all they are doing a pretty good job.
