I'm still somewhat new to Civ IV. Boudica is my vassal state, and she's been making some deals with me, I generally just accept if it's an excess hapiness/health resource. I just took a look at our current deals, though...

She's giving me 3 spices, even though she has 2? Am I trading all of my items for one shipment of spices, and if so, how would I have been able to tell? What's going on here?

as a vassal she should be giving you her resources already

and now, I told her to research Fission and she's completed it. But, when I try to ask her for it, I can't even select it because "she doesn't like me enough" and after befriending her more she says she "doesn't want to start trading it away yet". I was under the impression that if I conquered a civilization they didn't have a choice.

Is this normal, or have I hit some sort of glitch? I can still demand tribute, but I can't even select what I told her to research.

Press F4 and click Active. Much easier to see what's going on.

I dont know this for sure, but for the first two spices, those were her excess ones, which show up on the trade screen. And the last one is her only one left, and becuase shes a vassal of yours, you can take it, just like you can take any of your vassals resources, if they have excess or not.

Just check Bouds land for how many spices she has.

The only tribute you can extract from your capitulated vassal is a single resource. Otherwise the AI behaves just like any other trading partner.

Question, if you demand a resource and then subsequently cancel that deal (so that no resources are being imported) do you get your "tribute" request back?

The 2 is the total amount available at that point in time. Thus, she has 2 spices still available for trade in addition to the 3 already exported. In total she has 5 spices (reasonable given how they tend to appear in clumps), maybe more if she has export agreements with other AIs as well.

Ahh, okay, that clears it up, I just misunderstood it. Thanks!
