I got the "build 7 forges" quest today..........considering I already had 11 forges I automatically completed it the next turn and got a free engineer specialist.

I have got the library quest with only one left to build but never with the lot

Is this common?

Hi.

Well, IMHO, the game is not looking exclusively at your situation.

It sends out a random quest, triggered by an event or tech you have acessed and promotes a challenge.

If you already have all the required elements, all the better. If not you will have to work for them.

Anyway i do know that the quests do appear even if you already have all the elements and are the automatic winner.

If this is common or not, well... just luck i guess.

Qui será, será.

I've never had it happen to me. Then again, I've only gotten a few quests.

I usually get a situation that is the opposite. i.e. Build 11 Harbors (and I have a landlocked nation or a nation with 1 port city.

I once got the colosseum quest playing as Alexander of the Greeks, so naturally I already had "colosseums" in practically all of my cities. You complete the quest next turn.

You're right that there isn't any logic to the quests.

In my current game I was set the quest of capturing a city on the other side of the continent in order to get iron. This was despite the fact that I had iron in my borders and was 2 turns away from hooking it up.

I love the Holy Mountain quest.

HEY LOOK! There's this mountain ALL THE WAY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MAP! If you can just conquer your way to it, you'll have the awesome honor of receiving something TOTALLY MEDIOCRE! YEAH!

Just had it with Pericles too. Free golden age ! I had the Statue of Zeus, and the Halicarnass Maussoleum to make it last. 24 turns of pure joy. :D

The pop up dasking you to choose between rewards didn't appeard? The text says that you fulfilled the quest..... ( and that you don't as well )

And the rewards are.....
Quest8:
Sports League
Prereq: CONSTRUCTION
Obsolete: RADIO or REFRIGERATION or PLASTICS or SATELLITES or ADVANCED_FLIGHT or ECOLOGY
Active/Weight: 25/500
Aim:
Build default number of players for this world size Colosseums (7 for standard)
Result:
1.+1 happy face for every Colosseum
2.+4 culture for every collosseum
3.IF you control the Statue of Zeus wonder trigger a golden age

Check your colloseums for extra :) or :culture: ... you're obviously not in a GA

r_rolo1,

The text popped up just fine. I chose the +happiness, but I never did check the coliseums to see if they were granting happiness. It wasn't really an issue for me, though. I had 4 or 5 happiness resources in that game, and my cities were already growing too big, I was intentionally nerfing their growth so they wouldn't cost me so much money.

Hi.

Well, IMHO, the game is not looking exclusively at your situation.

It probably should.

Instead of displaying that useless quest message, why not give the player the benefit with a somewhat modified message popping up? Why ask the player to complete a mission that's already finished? It would add a lot to the game experience, and it's not a big coding job either.

Yeah , spare me the "you have been quested etc etc" ,"you have completed this quest blah blah blah"

Just "listen forge dude , you got lucky ,here`s your damn engineer"

I hate that you can't look somewhere to remember what quests you have active. I've had plenty of times when I built 7 galleys when I should have built 7 triremes. :gripe:

And I also hate getting a quest, then finishing my research on a tech one turn later and failing the quest. I HATE FAILURE. :aargh:

This made me laugh out loud because it's so true. I always just ignore this quest because it always is way the . .. .. .. . across the map.

The Greed quest works a little that way too.

"Our generals want you to take control of this resource deep in enemy territory." No, not this spot of the same resource just there on your borders, the other one faaaaar away. Yes, it's a protective civ. So what ?

"If another civ takes control of it first, you lose." The very minute you conquer the city controling the resource, the neighbor's cultural borders engulf the said resource. You lose. :wallbash:

^^And if the civ dies before you capture the resource, the quest fails too ( even if it was their last city that you captured now.... )

If you click on the "Event Log" one of the options inside is "Quests"

Click here and you will find details of your current quest.

I only seem to get quests that are virtually impossible to complete. My last one was the 7 forges before the Renaissance era. I was beelining replaceable parts to lumber up all my forests and 4 turns away from finishing printing press, with only 5 cities on the map. :(
