I was thinking that back in the age of sail, people would slug it out from long range or board. With Dale's combat mod, we can simulate the long range stuff but I was wondering if it would be possible to simulate the boarding.
This simulation might be done by having each ship carry a certain number of crew and if it got close enough, the crew could board the other ship and fight its crew. The ship w/ the winning crew would then gain control of both ships. It would be like the ship was operating similarly to a city in the way that it would be captured though it could also be sunk w/ long range guns.
Could anyone do this?

you can find the part about capturing defeated ships in the Napoleon mod by.....can't remember who right now, it's in the database.

don't know about the boarding though.

You could have all boats start with a promotion like "excess crew", or something, which is lost when they capture a boat, then reinstated when the return to a city.

Heh, ok so turns out the capturing thing is super easy and is an existing tab in all unit files, it is set to zero be default, except for workers, so just change that.

still not sure about the ship-to-ship unit combat.

oops, ok ,it's not a Zero-One thing, it's done by unit class
so for a frigate
the TAG is <Capture>UNITCLASS_FRIGATE</Capture>
