They're both chubby but one looks sharper and is shaded. :p

I intend to add more to the library as I go on and add some eye candy and all that jazz. :p, so stay tuned.

I made a Doolittle Raid "stationary object". If anyone cares. :p

I do! :D

Incidentally, the Hornet was not an Essex-class carrier, but a Yorktown-class. However, we don't have a Yorktown graphic presently. :mischief:

dutchking
Apr 13, 2008, 07:37 PM
You sure about that GO?
The preceding Yorktown-class carriers formed the basis from which the Essex class was developed. Designed to carry a larger air group, and unencumbered by pre-war naval treaty limits, the USS Essex (CV-9) was over sixty feet longer, nearly ten feet wider in beam and more than a third heavier. A longer, wider flight deck and a deck-edge elevator facilitated more efficient aviation operations, enhancing the ship's offensive and defensive air power. Machinery arrangement and armor protection was greatly improved from previous designs. These features, plus the provision of more anti-aircraft guns, gave the ships much enhanced survivability. In fact, none of the Essex-class carriers were lost and two of them, Franklin (CV-13) and Bunker Hill (CV-17), came home under their own power even after receiving heavy damage.
I guess they're similar or something. *shrugs*

Looks good enough. Like the render? :mischief:

Wolfshanze
Apr 13, 2008, 09:52 PM
They're NOT the same class DK... it is what it is... they are differant carriers.

I really don't care, but don't try and justify that there's no differance between a Yorktown and Essex class carrier... Gaius is right.

Yeash, for a change. :D You could probably get away with a reskin of the Essex carrier though.

Wolfshanze
Apr 20, 2008, 01:21 PM
Well, if you want to do tanks, there are still holes (especially with Smitty gone, he can't claim "he's working on them").

There's no Italian/Roman heavy tank...
Answer: CA P26/40 (http://www.wwiivehicles.com/italy/tanks-heavy/p26-40.asp)

There's no Japanese heavy tank...
Answer: Type 3 Chi-Nu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_3_Chi-Nu)

There's no Hungarian tanks...
Answer: Turan I (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turan_I) and/or Turan II (http://www.onwar.com/tanks/hungary/profiles/pturan2.htm)

There's no Swedish/Viking tanks...
Answer: Strv M38 / M40 / M42 (http://www.achtungpanzer.com/articles/swetnhp.htm)

I'm more then willing to offer better pictures/more info on any of the above vehicles for anyone who takes-up the gauntlet.

dutchking
Apr 20, 2008, 01:51 PM
Hmmm... :D

If you could get diagrams of the P26/40 like the ones that are on that page for the Turan II I'd be more than willing to make those tanks. :p

Gaius Octavius
Apr 20, 2008, 02:16 PM
Hmm, tanks... gives me a few ideas, too! :D

America: T29
Japan: Type 3 Chi-Nu, Type 95 Ha-Go, Type 1 Chi-He
Italy: P26/40
France: ARL 44
Germany: Panzer I (definitely not a heavy tank! :p)

There really aren't too many Japanese tanks out there that I could find, partly why my Pacific scenario has so few. ;)

Wolfshanze
Apr 20, 2008, 03:59 PM
Gaius Octavius, seems we concur on a few things (Jap and Italian heavy tanks), but I think some things are a little more back-burnerish...

Japan: Type 1 Chi-He (Damn-near physically identical to the Type 97...)
Germany: Panzer I (we already have about 4,327 German tanks, why do we need more?)

There really aren't too many Japanese tanks out there that I could find, partly why my Pacific scenario has so few. ;)
If you want to suggest an interesting Jap tank, I might suggest the Type 89 Otsu... though I'd still rather see the Type-3 Chi-Nu first.

Japan: Type 1 Chi-He (Damn-near physically identical to the Type 97...)

A reskin of the Jap tank would probably suffice in that case, sort of like the Zero-Oscar syndrome. I never saw many pictures of the Type 1, so I didn't know. :p

Germany: Panzer I (we already have about 4,327 German tanks, why do we need more?)

For a rainy day? :D

Though something tells me if the Germans had as many tanks as we do for Civ 4, the war might have gone a bit differently...

So wolf,
We already have a 97 and you want a 1 and a 3? I can do that easily just by looking at them, minor tweaks and badda bing badda boom.

And GO, that's damn impossible... :cringe:

Wolfshanze
Apr 20, 2008, 11:47 PM
No way... I never asked for a Type-1... I think it looks too much like a Type-97 (which we already have)... Giaus mentioned wanting a Type-1, but I don't think he realized how similar it is to a Type-97.

What I did want/ask for is the Type-3 Chi-Nu... it has a similar hull to a Type-97/Type-1, but a much larger and brand-new turret.

http://gunsight.jp/c/image2/Type3%20tank-600.jpg

I also (as previously researched) asked for an Italian Carro P26/40 tank.

If Gaius wants a German tank, I might suggest the Pz-III (any model "E" and above)... it's the only major German tank model we don't have yet.

http://tanks.commander.net.ru/data/pzkpfwiii/5_big.jpg

Oh... and on the subject of Jap tanks and tweaks... you know what? I'm not a fan of redoing existing models, but the Type-97 we do have has the "new" turret (which is bigger)... I'd like to see the OLD/ORIGINAL Type-97 type turret... which is smaller (and more unique)... like this:

http://gunsight.jp/c/image2/Type97Mtank-600.jpg

If you want to take the original model and redo the turret (or start from scratch, whichever is easier), I'd be fine with that... or heck... make a Type-95 Ha Go tank... cute little buggers.

http://gunsight.jp/c/image2/Type95%20light%20tank-600-e.jpg

As you can see... there's still plenty of good WWII tanks which haven't been done yet... and with Smitty gone, the void is still big in tank-making model makers.

dutchking
Apr 21, 2008, 01:01 AM
I'll get on all of it someday...

Wolfshanze
Apr 21, 2008, 06:45 AM
Just ideas I'm tossing out there... right now, my two favorites would be the Type-3 and Carro P26/40.

Gaius Octavius
Apr 21, 2008, 11:36 AM
I don't know if you guys understand... I didn't just want "any German tank" (or any other tank from any other civ, for that matter). I had something in mind for the specific ones I requested. Now as for the two Japanese tanks, a reskin will do so long as they look sufficiently different to distinguish in game, but for the others models will probably be required. Maybe I could even attempt this myself with a little texture editing, but I have not mastered that just yet. ;)

I don't care what order they're done in, so if DK wants to do the Italian/Hungarian/Austrian/Blahblahblah tanks first, that's fine.

Yeah, I have to finish up a list of airplanes GO asked for a while ago, maybe I'll get back to my old goals after that.

Well, windows got all screwed up (but mac still works, I have both on a mac) and I'm going to start modding again once I get a new computer at the end of the summer. I'm working over the summer and soon I'll have enough cash, then I'm going to get back to modding. (might even start LH making again :))

The good news is that I've fixed windows and my machine is fully functional, and I can reinstall BTS and get to work on more stuff.

Yeah, eventually.

I have to get them all back on my PC through mods and stuff.

Okay, I've decided to put my American Revolution on hold for about a week or so until I can update all my air units with mostly new models and sometimes new textures (the B-17 is the only one updated right now). I'm also going to be enhancing this "info center" with screenshots such as:

:p

Drop Shadows are such a beautiful thing.

Edit: Updated the Mitchell too:

I can't say I haven't been considering it. [from GM's thread on building ships] :hmm:

Its always an option, I'll try a prototype and see how it comes out. Got a request? (we should probably move this to my creations thread ;))

Wanna build a ship? Here's "the list" of existing holes in what a lot of mods use. Known ships that have been built are listed below... ships "in green" are still needed. Pick one... I'd say Italy, France and Russia could all use some work... though I think Matt is planning on doing the French Dreadnought next... but he doesn't hold a copyright on it if someone beats him to it... otherwise the list in green is pretty wide-open.

United States:
BB: Iowa (already done)
Dread: Florida or South Carolina (already done by TR)
Pre-Dread: Iowa (already done)
CV: Essex (already done)
CA: Brooklyn (already done... technically a "CL" though) or Baltimore (a true CA)
DD: Fletcher
Submarine: Gato (already done)

England:
BB: Hood or King George V (both already done)
Dread: Dreadnought (already done by Danrell)
Pre-Dread: Canopus (already done)
CV: Ark Royal (already done)
CA: Kent/London/Norfolk... (already done)
DD: Tribal (already done)
Submarine: T Class (not Thames, but "T") (already done)

Germany:

Dread: Helgoland (already done)
Pre-Dread: Brandenburg (already done)
CV: Graf Zeppelin (already done)
CA: Admiral Hipper or Graf Spee (already done)
DD: Zerstörer 1934... aka; 'Leberecht Maas' (already done)
Submarine: Type VIIC U-Boat (already done)

France:
BB: Dunkerque (already done)
Dread: Courbet
Pre-Dread: Jauréguiberry or Charlemagne (already done by TR)
CV: Béarn
CA: Algerie
DD: Le Fantasque
Submarine: Le Redoutable or Surcouf (both already done)

Japan:
BB: Yamato (already done)
Dread: Settsu/Kawachi or Ise (already done by TR)
Pre-Dread: Mikasa (already done)
CV: Zuikaku (already done) or Akagi
CA: Takao
DD: Yugumo
Submarine: Type B (already done)

Russia:
BB: Gangut (already done) or Sovietski Soyuz
Dread: Gangut or Borodino (already done by TR)
Pre-Dread: Bronenosets Tsesarevich (already done, but missing turrets!)
CV: Project 71 or Project 72
CA: Kirov
DD: Leningrad
Submarine: Scuka (already done)

Italy:
BB: Littorio (already done)
Dread: Conte Di Cavour (already done by TR)
Pre-Dread: Regina Margherita or Emanuele Filiberto
CV: Aquila

Okay, this is what I've got so far, I haven't done any skinning at all, this is very early in production:

Wolfshanze

Looks good so far as far as the shape is concerned... as for the red part of the lower hull, that's supposed to match the waterline, so it should be straight across at the waterline, it won't curve... but I know it's early, so you probably haven't addressed that yet.

dutchking
Aug 13, 2008, 01:53 PM
Yes, I haven't. :p

I'm about to start texture work (which your complaint will be addressed in) and I'll post another preview later. I may have a little fun rendering it in Blender. (like I did with the doolittle raid)

dutchking
Aug 13, 2008, 08:22 PM
Okay, this is the what the texture looks like SO FAR. I still have to edit it a bit then work some animation bugs out and I'll release it:

Aug 13, 2008, 08:39 PM
That's pretty good... not to nitpick, but isn't there supposed to be more separation between the two smokestacks? Did you team-color the hull bottom? It should be dark red, or if you're making it Soviet-specific, a much darker green (not bright green).

dutchking
Aug 13, 2008, 08:50 PM
Hmm...

Well the separation between the smokestacks looks greater from different angles. :p I didn't team color anything, so I guess I'll make it darker.

I was just going by your own picture... seems the forward stack should be moved closer to the bow of the ship?!?!?

Maybe it's the angle, dunno... just seems they should be further apart... model making is not my forte'.

That destroyer is looking very cool. :D

dutchking
Aug 15, 2008, 01:15 PM
Thanks both. :)

Well there are two problems with the destroyer, one is that when I attach an animation the turrets go flying in different directions. :p The other is that it doesn't show up in game (blank civipedia screen) I hope to resolve those problems but if I can't I'll upload it as a still model and someone else can animate it.

Chuggi
Aug 15, 2008, 01:24 PM
Doesn't sound good. :/ Is it using vanilla animations, or modified ones? I can sometimes get it to work without having to worry about modifying the animations, just by preserving the rigging, and having parts (like the base for example) just attached to the main node.

dutchking
Aug 15, 2008, 01:27 PM
Its just a vanilla destroyer with stuff moved around, the turrets are the only rigged things really modified. If you think you could fix it I'll send it to you. :)

Its not really that big, just 4 turrets kind of move off (a lot) to the side but fire normally while one other turret goes to the other side (a lot) and fires normally.

Chuggi
Aug 15, 2008, 01:59 PM
If they look similar enough to the vanilla turrets it would be easier to just use them. If they're a lot different then you may need to find a proper animator who can fix it. I'm not very good at animating myself, so I just improvise when I can. ;)

Wolfshanze
Aug 15, 2008, 02:11 PM
If you're having problems animating the turrets (which is quite common with custom ships), Coyote wrote a very specific tutorial on how to fix these issues right here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=271331).

dutchking
Aug 15, 2008, 02:26 PM
Thanks for the link Wolf.

And chug: they're the same thing except a few of them are scaled down and a few scaled up. The bones aren't messed up or anything, its just some weird thing with rotation/positioning with animations.

Wolfshanze
Aug 15, 2008, 02:34 PM
No problem... I am probably the best-informed person who knows absolutely nothing on how to do this sort of stuff! If that statement made any sense to you, seek professional help, because you understand the ramblings of a crazy man. :p

Chuggi
Aug 15, 2008, 02:34 PM
did you scale them in blender or in nifskope? it probably won't make any difference though, if it's something to do with the position/rotation thing. :cringe: Reminds me of this time I added a beard to a guy's head, and when he turned his head his beard would stay behind for a bit, and then catch up.

dutchking
Aug 15, 2008, 03:13 PM
I scaled em' in Blender, but that's not important. ;)

It has something to do with the animations and the positions of the turrets during, I think I'll be able to fix it with Coyote's tutorial.

By the way, I've redone the I-16, and I'm going to give it some more wings then turn it into the I-15 later on. The redone I-16 is the same texture except I've removed about 300 vertices and added gloss. I'll upload it soon.
EDIT:

Yeah, so anyway.

I had a lot of time to think at dinner today, and I'm officially announcing my retirement. You'll no longer see my face on these forums. You can contact me at the multiple emails in my profile or at Civ Junction forums which you can reach in my signature. I'm tired of modding and computers in general, sorry if I let anyone down but it is my life.

For X amount of years, months, weeks, days, centuries, millennia, etc. I'm out. See ya guys, and remember: Life goes by pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Hey Dutchking, I don't know if you're going to check this out. But I registered at Civ Junction, and it recognizes my PW and everything but when I try to post it directs me back to the login page, so I put in my info and then it asks me to click a link to go back to the forums, which I do. Then it directs me abck to the login page again, and the cycle continues. What's going on?
