Provolution Apr 23, 2008, 06:26 AM I just completed the collected chronicled history of Arete, "The In-Triad" (See main forum citizen registry), written on 100 pig-hides, so I hope that I can be given a horse as an award for this, now that I finally earnt it. I am also a descendant of Prochon, that discovered our lands barefooted some thousands of years ago.
Provolition the Sage said to the Blastoid Horsewhisperer.
Lord Civius Apr 23, 2008, 10:07 AM I'm in give me 5's all the way around.
blastoidstalker Apr 23, 2008, 10:27 AM I hearby gift Night-Strider, A surefooted and powerfull stallion to Provolution the Sage as a gift for his efforts in recording the history of this land, and the aid his ancestors gave to The Blastoid during the long march of the Prochon warband.
blastoidstalker Apr 24, 2008, 01:23 PM Here are the steeds available for the race. The order of picking is al follows.
Duke Blackstone
Dave Shack
Lord Civius
Vandal Warlord
Civ Playah
Aluminum Knight
You may either announce your steed choices in the thread or PM me. If you are lower on the list, make sure to give me an ordered list, as the first choice may be taken. You will have until Monday 0:00 GMT to select your steed, if you do not do so then others behind you will move in front of you in line. The race will begin Tuesday morning with 4 turns, representing quarters of the race. Each quarter will take 1 day.
During each quarter you may chose to hang back (reducing speed and conserving endurance), race in the pack (moderate speed and endurance) or burst ahead (high speed and costing endurance). If you doi not respond I will assume you are racing in the pack.
Stats
Speed- How fast the horse can run
Endurance- How long the Horse can run fast
Temper- How difficulty the horse is to handle. The higher the temper the more likely one is to fall off of it.
Agility plays the largest role in staying on the horse
Strength has an effect on staying on and speed as one can control the horse better

blastoidstalker Apr 24, 2008, 06:51 PM I will take Hazel Eyes.
(what does horse sense help? If its endurance give me Black Wind please)
Horse sense determined order that you pick the horses. It represents how well you can judge the qualoity of the horse. You had the highest horse sense, thus you get to pick first, the best horse. It does not effect your ability to judge the state of the horse during the race, this would be to complicatecd fore me. I will give all riders and equal indication of how tired there horse is.
Diamondeye Apr 25, 2008, 03:29 AM Is the game running? Is there room for another? Or will you be hosting a new race soon?
blastoidstalker Apr 25, 2008, 05:52 AM This game has started with the picking of the horses. SO it is to late to join the race. It will run through next week. The week after that i plan to start a second one, I am thinking of a contest to help train our new Horse Archers, how to ride a horse and fire a bow at the same time. So check in at the end of next week.
Lord Civius Apr 25, 2008, 01:06 PM I am thinking of a contest to help train our new Horse Archers, how to ride a horse and fire a bow at the same time. So check in at the end of next week.
I was planning on running an Archery tournament in Warlords City soon. Perhaps we can bring our 2 tourneys together. The First Aretan Festival or something of that nature.
DaveShack Apr 26, 2008, 02:12 PM DaveShack carefully studies all the horses, searching for hidden strengths and weaknesses, thinking ahead to the needs of the upcoming race. Then he stands in one place for a while, swaying gently with his eyes closed. Just as an onlooker whispers to another "did he fall asleep", he opens his eyes, turns to the race organizer and says,
I'll take Scarn.
Lord Civius Apr 26, 2008, 02:17 PM I will take Black Wind then.
Vandal Warlord Apr 26, 2008, 02:21 PM Grey Wind for me.
civplayah Apr 26, 2008, 05:24 PM I would like Firefly.

Duke Blackstone Apr 28, 2008, 06:32 AM Fall back... (ten caricters)
AluminumKnight Apr 28, 2008, 06:34 AM Ha, I got to pick last but still got the horse I wanted...
blastoidstalker Apr 28, 2008, 07:16 PM The contestants are lined up along the outer wall of the pasture, Duke Blackstone upon wild and fiery hazel eyes, Dave Shack upon the rugged warrior Scarn, Lord Civius upon the midnight svelte legs of Blackwind, Vandal Warlord upon the solid shoulders of Grey wind, Civplayah upon the playful firefly and last but not least Aluminum knight on the short and sturdy legs of Pawney.
Clydus comes before them on the great white stallion Anon and announces the race is set to begin. He lifts his whip high into the air and brings it down in a crack that echoes across the hills.
And they are off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For a moment Pawney jumps to the front, eager and ready to run, but after a few strides it becomes apparent that Blackwind has been born to run as he strides to the lead, with Lord Civius hanging on for dear life. Soon the pack passes Pawney as well, but the spirited mare fights on and follows them to the first turn. As the pack approaches the first turn Grey wind make a slight stumble nearly throwing Vandal from his back. But the agile vandal hangs on and pushes himself back to the front of the pack.
At the quarter Blackwind with ease and grace has pushed Lord Civius into the lead, a full two horse lengths in front of the pack. Blackwind still looks strong but the veins on his legs are bulging an early sign of tiring. Leading the pack is Vandal on Grey Wind just a head in front of Dave Shack on Scarn. Both horses look strong, though vandal looks shaky in the saddle. A horse length behind comes Civplayah on Firefly who is a nose in front of The Duke of Hazel Eyes, who seems to be easing into the race. Both horses look strong. Finally three horse lengths behind the pack is Aluminum knight riding Pawney, moving her little legs with a grim determination.
It is now time to give orders for the second quarter of the race.
To fall back
To ride steady
To push hard!
I will play the next turn around Wednesday noon GMT
civplayah Apr 29, 2008, 01:47 PM Stay steady, Firefly, stay steady! Our time will come. But for now, ride steady, ride steady!
Duke Blackstone Apr 29, 2008, 02:26 PM Staying steady.....
Lord Civius Apr 29, 2008, 08:15 PM Ride like the wind............
DaveShack Apr 29, 2008, 08:34 PM Steady .
blastoidstalker Apr 30, 2008, 07:47 AM The Second Quarter of the race
Places after first turn
The horses move out of the first turn with Lord Civius on Black Wind holding a two horse length lead over Vandal Warlord on Grey Wind and DaveShack on Scarn. About a horse length back of them comes Civ-Playah on Firefly and Duke Blackstone on Hazel eyes. Running a few horse lengths behind the pack is Pawnee and Aluminum Knight.
The Back Straightaway
As the horse move out of the turn Hazel Eyes and Grey Wind both pick up the pace while Black wind seems to start to lag a bit. Vandal warlord still recovering from his near de-horsing early in the race is startled by the sudden increase in speed and slides towards to side of the horse, his leg coming inches from the ground and a certain crash landing, but Vandal again uses his strength and agility to keep upon his mount and ride on, and even appear to be gaining a little on Blackwind. The amazing burst of speed though is from hazel eyes, which quickly makes up the horse length distance and passes Scarn and pulls slightly ahead of Grey Wind…… Then he hits amount of dirt and the upward jolt sends The Duke flying through the air and hurtling back onto the ground, coming to a stop bruised and unhurt. Hazel Eyes appears unperturbed and starts to munch on a bush. Duke Blackstone is just starting to rise stunned as Aluminum knight comes past on the short legs of Pawney, laughing so hard he almost falls off his horse, forcing Pawnee to stop for a second to let his rider recover..
Halfway Through The Race
At the half way point Lord Civius is just under two horse lengths ahead on Black Wind. Black Wind's tongue is starting to loll though and appears to be getting tired. Despite his near falls Vandal warlord is riding in second and his steed, grey wind appears in solid shape. Unnoticed in all the commotion has been some strong running by Civ-Playah on firefly, who is now in third about a horse length behind vandal, though Firefly’s veins are just starting to bulge. Half a length behind Firefly is Dave Shack on Scarn, Who seems to be bidding him time and appears very strong. Now five Horse lengths behind Scarn is Pawney, still chugging away on his short legs and apeareing very strong as well. Now up on his feat Duke is screaming at Hazel Eyes:deadhorse:, who is happily munching away.
Can Lord Civius keep going and hold off the challengers?
Can Vandal stay on his horse?
Will Civ-Playah pull the upset?
Will Dave Shack rise from the back of the pack?
Will they all fall of there horses and Aluminum knight go trotting to victory.
Come back in about a day to find out what happens in the third quarter of the race.
For the remaining players you need to give me orders by midnight Thursday GMT for third quarter of the race. Your options as always
Pull back and ride easy
Race steady :)
Push hard!!! :aargh:
Duke Blackstone Apr 30, 2008, 08:04 AM When duke finaly manages to get back on hazeleyes, he is by far in last place. He throws of the saddle and jumps on bareback. "Sprint, faster you bloody jackass. This is what I get for not choosing a gelding."- I should have known i would have gotten nailed.
Duke Blackstone Apr 30, 2008, 08:07 AM (push hard)
Vandal Warlord Apr 30, 2008, 11:58 AM PUSH HARD!!!:mwaha::mwaha::mwaha:
blastoidstalker Apr 30, 2008, 12:28 PM I should have known i would have gotten nailed.
That was the risk of picking a fiery steed. You also just got unlucky, the RNG gave you 4 in a 1-100 spread this turn, so you went flying. Aluminum knight actualy got a 6, but riding Pawney there is almost no chance that he would fall. If you did not fall your would have been in very good shape.
When the race is done I will post the spreadsheet that I am using to do this race.
civplayah Apr 30, 2008, 01:51 PM Our time has come... push hard! Since the other horses are getting tired, we may be able to win!
Speaking of which, what happens when you win? Any special prizes or such?
blastoidstalker Apr 30, 2008, 03:14 PM The winner gets 3 fine steeds. Selected from the horses in the race.
AluminumKnight Apr 30, 2008, 03:52 PM Come on baby! Keep pushing hard, Pawney!! We got this!
Lord Civius Apr 30, 2008, 11:01 PM Easy Black Wind, ride easy this qaurter........
DaveShack May 01, 2008, 12:24 AM Push hard!
blastoidstalker May 01, 2008, 11:14 AM Halfway Through The Race
At the half way point Lord Civius is just under two horse lengths ahead on Black Wind. Black Wind's tongue is starting to loll though and appears to be getting tired. Despite his near falls Vandal warlord is riding in second and his steed, grey wind appears in solid shape. The Turn
As the racers move towards the final two turns, the pack picks up the past, while Black Wind, who is tiring in the lead starts to pull up to conserve strength. Firefly leads the charge, coming up to the head of the pack and grey wind, with vandal still uncomfortably in the saddle joins him. Scarn falls behind the two horses, unable to gain ground on Grey wind and losing it to the suddenly fleet firefly. At the turn the two horses come up upon Blackwind and just begin to pass her at exit to the final straight away. In the back Pawney is still going slow but steady, as fast as her little legs can carry her. The Duke regains his horse and starts to ride again, only to be again rudely dumped on the ground and hazel eyes returns to her grazing.:deadhorse:
At the entrance to the final straightaway Grey Wind is in the lead by a head, followed closely by both Firefly and Blackwind. All three horses look tired and there muscles can be seen tightening beneath there skin. Scarn sits two horse lengths behind and still looks solid. Pawney is 5 lengths father back, looking as strong as ever, and Duke is on the ground in the backstretch, again.
We have 3 horses neck to neck?
Will Vandal keep his slight lead?
Will Civ-Playah over take him?
Will Black Wind put the jets on again and just blow by?
Will Strong Scarn, move past them all in a final Push?
Or will they all crash in one giant heap and Pawney will ride to victory
Turn in Saturday for the final stretch.
For the remaining players you need to give me orders by Noon Saturday GMT for fourth quarter of the race. Your options as always
Pull back and ride easy ;)
Race steady :)
Push hard!!! :aargh:
DaveShack May 01, 2008, 11:19 AM Isn't Saturday the 4th quarter of the race?
Fly Scarn, fly! It's now or never, give me all you've got!
blastoidstalker May 01, 2008, 11:23 AM I changed it, Thanks
Lord Civius May 01, 2008, 01:21 PM Push hard!!! :aargh: Like the wind.......
civplayah May 01, 2008, 03:21 PM I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. Will I just ride steady, and hope the other horses fall behind of tiredness, or will I ride strong and hope Firefly endures?
My choice....
Keep up a fast pace and win this thing!
AluminumKnight May 01, 2008, 05:12 PM Collapse in a giant heap! Seriously, I've been pushing Pawney hard the whole race but we're still behind.
"Come on, Pawney baby! Show me what you got! Push hard to the finish!"
blastoidstalker May 01, 2008, 06:58 PM Collapse in a giant heap! Seriously, I've been pushing Pawney hard the whole race but we're still behind.
"Come on, Pawney baby! Show me what you got! Push hard to the finish!"
Unfortuantly, Pawney is just plain slow. But he is gentle and kind as well:)
Diamondeye May 02, 2008, 01:54 PM Unfortuantly, Pawney is just plain slow. But he is gentle and kind as well:)
Which is of great use in a race
Vandal Warlord May 03, 2008, 09:58 AM Grey Wind, race steady, wait no, GIVE IT ALL YOU GOT!!! PUSH HARD!!!
blastoidstalker May 04, 2008, 06:34 PM Sorry to delay the end of the race but RL got busy this weekend. I will post results on Monday.
blastoidstalker May 05, 2008, 07:42 AM The Final Stretch
Heading into thew final stretch there is are three horses running neck to neck with Scarn stalking just behind. As they exit the turn Lord Civius gives Blackwind a slap on the but and she come allive out of her slumber, pushing back into the lead. Both Vandal and Civ Playah are started by this sudden jump and push hard to keep on her heals. Just behind Scarn is slowly inchinmg up on the leaders, running the fastest he has run the whole race. Even Pawnee has caught the spirit, though a ways back is running at a clip to rival the leaders.
As they approach the finish line all three of the front horses are obvously tiring and slowing down, but Balck winds 3 quarter rest seems to have given her just enough to keep going and she pulls about a horselength ahead of the two others, A charging scarn catches and passes Firefly and looks to move farther formeward.
But runs out of time.
Lord Civius on Blackwind crosses the line First, followed a length behind by Vandal who edges out a charging Daveshack by a head. Closely behind them comes Civ-Playah. About 4 horse lengths behind is Pawnee starting to catch up but just to far behind to make a seriuous move. Duke still lies on the backstretch muttering at Hazel Eyes.
Congratulations Lord Civius you have won our first horserace.:king:
You may pick three steeds from the race as your own.:)
Congratulations for all the participants for a fantastic and entertaining race. :woohoo: You have all earned 1 experience point for futre races. The next time you enter a race, you have 1 free point to allocate to your stats.
P.S. If you want the spreadsheet that I made for this race ask me and I will send it to you, it will not post as an attachment. It is interesting to note that Duke would have likjely won the race if he had not fallen off and Vandal was extremely lucky in his random numbers. If Lord Civius would have gotten Duke's, Aluminum Night's or Vandal's staying on horse random numbers he woiuld have been off of his horse instead of winning.
Lord Civius May 05, 2008, 09:38 AM Woohoo! That was a close one. Wasn't sure if she would make it. I take it Black Wind was just a loner for the race so I'll take him. I'll come by the Stables later and pick out the other 2. I will undoubtly be trading them for Dyes from Tintura so our AFL players can have uniforms.
Thanks to all of the other racers for a good hard race :goodjob:.
Joe Harker May 05, 2008, 12:32 PM P.S. If you want the spreadsheet that I made for this race ask me and I will send it to you, it will not post as an attachment.
If you put the file in a zip file and post the zip file as an attachment it should work :)
civplayah May 05, 2008, 01:48 PM Nice job, Civius! You surely earned the title of Lord!
Gimme that spreadsheet, Blastoid. I wanna see how my luck was.
DaveShack May 05, 2008, 07:32 PM Good race! I'm interested in the spreadsheet too.
blastoidstalker May 06, 2008, 09:10 AM here is the spreadsheet. You can ask any questions for the mechanics.
I am thinking of doing another race soon. This time I am going to introduce the whip to the equation. I am going to play around with the mechanics and get them figured out so i can post the mechanics at the outset, now that i am getting the hang of this.
Vandal Warlord May 06, 2008, 01:30 PM Whoa, that was a close one!
blastoidstalker May 09, 2008, 01:37 PM The next Great Horse race is about to begin
Vandal Warlord May 09, 2008, 01:40 PM Nice! I really want to win this time!!!
blastoidstalker May 09, 2008, 01:43 PM The Great Horse Race
Again it is time for the Hall of Thundering Hooves to host a Horse Race. This time we have added a bit of distance and whips for the riders to use.
The Prizes are as follows
1st place 5 steeds including the 1 ridden
2nd place 2 steeds including the 1 ridden
3rd place the steed ridden in the race.
Basic Rules
Each participant will create characters with 3 stats. They will have 15 points to distribute in this stats in any manner they see fit. Participants in the first race will gain an extra bonus point.
The stats are
Agility- affects the riders ability to stay on there horse and there ability to whip other horses
Strength- affects the riders ability to stay on the horse and there ability to control it affecting speed
Horse sense- not used during the race but used to determine the order in which participants chooses there horses
The participants will chooses there steeds in order of there horse sense scores, with ties being broken by the person who posted there stats going first. Each stead has 3 statistics
Speed - how fast the horse will run
Endurance - How long the horse can run and take a pounding
Fire - How difficult the horse is to control – affects the rider’s ability to stay on the horse.
Each turn the rider has several options
Ride hard - using there whip to make the horse go faster than usually and using up endurance. This also increases the risk of falling off the horse
Run Steady - go at a steady pace, using some endurance but less than riding hard
Go easy - hang back and conserve the horse’s strength
In addition if a rider chooses to run steady or go easy they may choose to whip a horse that is near them.
Details if you want to see them on how everything is calculated
Whipping another horse
A rider can only whip the horse to there left and right at the start (order determined randomly) and within one horse length during the race.
If a rider chooses to whip an opponents horse he must make a “hit role” If he makes this hit role the opposing rider’s horse loses .5 endurance and the rider’s chance of falling off his horse is increased by 5%. If he misses the to hit role the rider whipping increases his chance of falling by 5%
The equation for the to hit role is a 100 RNG that must be below ((2 + agility) * 10%)
Staying on the horse.
Each turn a 1-100 RNG for each rider this number needs to be above there fall chance for them to remain in the race.
The fall chance equation is (.17 *(5 + agility + Strength – 2 * (fire)/ 40))*75)
This number can be modified by the following factors Riding hard +5%
Go Easy - 5%
Whipped by another player +5%
Speed
The following is the basic equation that is used to determine distance travelled
Ride hard 5*Speed + Strength + 20 RNG
Run Steady 4*Speed + Strength + 20 RNG
Go Easy 3*Speed _+ Strength + 20 RNG
In addition after the first two turns an endurance adjustment comes into play. This endurance adjustment starts out as being weighted as .5 (in relation to the attributes above) and increases by.5 in weight each turn till is has a weight of 2 in the final turn.
If two horses are within 5 distance points of each other are within a length.
Endurance
Each turn a horse spends energy running. The base amount of this reduction is based on the choice or riding speed.
Ride hard 2 pts END
Run Steady 1 pt END
Go Easy .5 Pt END
In addition
Being whipped causes a .5 END lost
Being in the lead at the end of a turn causes a .5 end lost (wind breaking)
The Endurance at the end of the turn is used in the distance calculation from turn 3 onward.
Breaking down
If a horse goes below endurance it starts to break down and the following penalties occur
All endurance costs below 0 are doubled
The distance the horse travels is multiplied by 1- (END/10)
The horse with the highest distance total and the end wins
