I wasn't sure if this belonged in stories or general discussion, since it's actually a savegame that I find fairly interesting, maybe some of you will find it interesting too. I haven't finished the game yet, but plan to:

Extended Summary:
Geography/Terrain: The obviously interesting thing here is the starting position. England enjoys a fairly safe existence, but must cope with limited development. If you haven't figured it out yet, England wasn't the only civ to start on that island, the Inca cities on the south side of the island should hint at that (some along the South-East shore were razed). Those vast fields of grassland weren't always grassland, about 90% of the island used to be jungle and marsh, as you may have guessed by the terrain along those latitudes. Luckily, unlike some huge pangea maps, the island wasn't hopelessly far off, and the English seafaring Curraghs made it across without risk. The least notable issue is the latitudes along which most of the huge pangea rests - those are the highly potent plains and grassland climates. One thing that makes up for the difficult positioning is the abundance of silks end dyes, England has a monopoly on these resources

History: Well, some of the first civs the English met were the Inca, the Romans, the Vikings and the Mongols. They were among the early tech trading partners, but didn't benefit much from it, seeing as they were all at a geographic disadvantage. Early scouting allowed for a comfortable technological start, England was one of several tech leaders through out the Ancient ages. The whole world was quite peaceful, until the Iroquois declared war. England was their first target, or one of their fist targets. A refusal to share precious technical knowledge was too much for the Iroquois ego to take, and they declared war. Seeing as England was half the world away, and on an island, this wasn't particularly concerning, but the widening purple column on the power bar was. Me being the mean hateful person I am, I invited everyone who shared a border with the Iroquois to participate in a dogpile.
All hell broke loose.
I inadvertently started WWI, as everyone pummeled the Iroquois they started pummeling each other. The Iroquois narrowly escaped with a few cities, a minor power for their remaining existence, to be wiped out completely later on. Meanwhile I decided to take the island for myself, seeing as the Inca weren't into the middle ages yet. The war was uneventful, medieval infantry against swords, bows and spears. The Ottomans decide to pick on me, but this was before their rise to power, so all I did was deflect their galleys, and any troops to slip past. The raging war overseas gave me the golden opportunity to profit, as England switched to 0% science and loaned huge sums of gold to the warring nations. This allowed me to keep up with tech by buying and trading new techs. The Aztecs also decided to make the same mistake as the Iroquois, WWI slowed down asAt the same time I began building up libraries, and universities as soon as possible, I needed to be the first to Scientific Method and Electronics. Steam power and Replaceable parts were also a priority, as well as Industrialization. The idea is to have enough factories and plants to constantly build military units (mobilized if necessary), and enough stock exchanges to support them.

Current situation: Well, any who pick up this game will find that England is at peace with all nations, but that's that. I wanted to leave diplomacy up to the person picking up the game. The Ottoman empire is quickly rising in power, so you could declare war, but beware, as your navy isn't quite substantial, you may have to let the empire come to you. Plenty of artillery to batter those ships. You might also want to try and let the Ottomans go all the way, incite war on the Mongols and such. In any case good luck, the rest is up to you.

Try and build up a navy so you can conquer an empire. Use a Great Leader to rush a Palace in the most productive commercial/shieldwise city.

I did go for the navy thing. Pounding Ottoman ships with arty got my men-o-war to multiply fast (the no-support was great for the economy). But since it's a pangea map, I didn't go for all-out navy. I just let the enemy ships come to me, and captured as many as I could.

As for the GL, my first was used to get an army, so I could build the Academy.
