View Full Version : Error message & quit when loading WOTM17 save file

Not having been a GOTM/WOTM player in the past, I just decided last night to have a bash as WOTM 17 (France).

After loading the HOF Mod version 2.08.005, and then trying to open the WOTM17 save file, I get the error message "The save folder you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not changed" and Civ4 quits.

On the Civ4 WOTM17 page (http://gotm.civfanatics.net/civ4games/index.php?month=60017) it says "This game will require you to play under Patch v2.13 (the latest release version)" - is that advice for PC and Mac users, or just PC?

My question is, do I in fact need Warlords patched (back down) to 2.08, rather than the latest 2.13 patch?

If so, is there an easy way to do this, or do I have to reinstall from the ground up - Civ4, (plus 1.74 patch??), then Warlords, then 2.08.

There do seem to be some conflicting messages on teh release page. I'll fix it. However ...

From the WOTM 17 Saves Available thread:

If playing on a Mac, you must be patched to the Warlords 2.08 patch, not the new 2.13 patch.

Thanks Alan.

Well, I tried making a fresh install of Warlords for GOTM/WOTM purposes and patched it to 2.08 but then I got the same error message as before

Do I need to patch the basic Civ 4 'Vanilla' install up to 1.74 before installing Warlords, and then patch that to 2.08, would that make any difference? It 's also clear that this second, new, Warlords install I made was sharing the 2.13 Warlords save/mod etc. folders in the documents folder.

Also, when launching this second (2.08) Warlords install, I went and checked within the game (under Advanced Options) what version I was playing and it told me it was v.2.00. I then checked the Warlords app. itself using the Command+I 'Get Info' option and that said the same. Is the 2.08 installer not doing it's job somehow?

Yes, you do need to patch vanilla to 1.74, and you should probably do vanilla first , then Warlords. You may just be able to reapply the two patches in that order.

There is only one folder in ~/Documents/ for each Civ4 application. So yes, the same user-specific data is shared by all versions of the Warlords software. I've never seen any issues with this, but if you wanted to have different data sets for each installation, you could create different users, I guess. Then ~/Documents would be a different place for each user.

I don't know why you would see version 2.00. The first Mac version that was released was 2.08, and my two installations display 2.08 and 2.13 in Get Info, with different build numbers in brackets. Note that the save file version is different from the application version. I believe the file version for Warlords is still 200. But this number would not even show in the Mac OS Get Info screen.

Alan, is the same needed for SGOTM07? Well, I guess not since it's vanilla Civ4 and we have the correct HoF mod for that patch. Correct?

For SGOTM 7 you will need vanilla 1.74 plus HOF-Mac-1.74.002. It shouldn't matter whether that installation is teamed with Warlords 2.08, Warlords 2.13, or no Warlords at all.

Thanks for clarifying this Alan - I think I will start over and do a clean reinstall of both - things have gotten a bit mixed up trying to sort this out!
