View Full Version : MOD-IDEA: Master Of Magic Remake
DracoDruid Apr 08, 2008, 06:43 AM Hey everybody.
I don't know if anybody is working on this right now, but I just "refound" this old game called "Master Of Magic" and I'm sure some of you know this game very well.
So I just played one session to the end, and wondered if this fabulous game could be rebuild with CIVIV!?
Since I'm not that good at modding, and lacking the time I can't do this on my one, but I really would like to group some old fans and at least discuss the (im)possibilities.
So raise your hand if you are interested!
The game can be found here (http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=687).

Try Fall from Heaven II first
and then decide if you still need a remake of MoM....
link is in my signature
woodelf Apr 08, 2008, 07:29 AM It's been talked about since Civ4 came out, but nothing has come of it. Like SeZ says, try FfH2 first and then Dragonia II to see if they quench your fantasy thirst.
And then hope tjedge1 comes from CivIII and makes MoM for Civ4.
DracoDruid Apr 08, 2008, 08:47 AM Well while maybe what I was looking for,
the one thing I really liked about MoM was that it didn't try to bring too much of "Story" into.
See the Races where plain and simple, no strange civs or renamed versions or such.
But I will give it a try. Thanks.
Wyz_sub10 Apr 08, 2008, 11:58 AM I have to try FfH2 and Dragonia II. Spent so much time on modding I haven't had much chance to play.
But I agree that MoM was just an amazing game, and certainly a CIV IV version would be amazing.
Having said that, the one great thing about MoM that CIV IV could not replicate is the combat. I loved the unit-level strategic combat.
Damn...I'm going to find MoM and fire it up now. :)
Iranon Apr 08, 2008, 12:09 PM Hmm, I still load up MoM from time to time... without the atrocious bugs and with a better AI, it might still be my favourite turn-based strategy game.
And for the record... Nature magic isn't weak, just underrated!
woodelf Apr 08, 2008, 01:09 PM So that link gives you a d/l that can work with modern Windows?
avain Apr 08, 2008, 01:53 PM Jeez, one of my all-time favourites!
I kept hoping there'd be a sequel some day...
Wolfshanze Apr 08, 2008, 07:25 PM To be perfectly honest, if you liked Master of Magic (as I did) back in the good-old days of DOS, and you either don't have it now, or have problems running it in WinXP (in-spite of DOSBOX), you might try getting ahold of "Age of Wonders" (preferably, AoW II Shadow Magic) as it works with Windows XP, is more modern, and very-much "in the spirt of" Master of Magic.
DracoDruid Apr 09, 2008, 02:13 AM Yeah thanks for the hints.
@ Woodelf: No but you just have to install DOSBox.
1) Make A MoM folder with all the files inside.
2) Make a shortcut for the dosbox.exe inside the dosbox main folder
3) Drag-n-drop the MoM onto the shortcut
4) type magic
5) and play...

I agree 100%. In fact, go to Age of Wonders Haven and pick up the Lord of the Rings Scenario from Blackrose. This is easily the best LOTR mod I have ever played for any game. (it's for AOW:SM)

And AoW:SM indeed is the best and I always forget that I have it.

Just this month I got myself and 2 other people playing MoM again.
1 of the 2 had never played it before...
I love DOSBox.

Ninja2 Oct 16, 2008, 06:45 AM Jeez... I can't believe I've entirely missed the Age of Wonders games. I mean, I had NO idea what you guys were talking about! :D I just put in an order for Shadow Magic. Only 5€, so that was an easy choice!
