I have installed BTS and all the patest patches. For some reason my Ottoman leader is completely bright red. And the Korean leader, who definitely was fine before the installation, is now completely invisible except for his moustache!

I have an Nvidea 7600 card I think and I am experiencing graphical artifacts in the game - towers that rise from the land to infinity. But they have been there always, ever since I bought the card in fact.

But when I installed the BTS expansion and ran it I couldnt get the graphical options screen to display properly until I restarted. Sounds like a card problem or reinstall?

Probably the graphics driver.

I also have a 7600, but I've never experienced any of those problems. Yeah, first check the drivers. Also, in the system tray should be an icon for your card settings (nvidia control panel). I left most everything "application controlled". If you still have trouble, let me know and I'll go in and write down all my settings.

Did you check the Technical Support thread? I recall seeing your problem before, including the hilariuos screenshots.

Well I have everything on application controlled ad have reinstalled both BTS and the 3.13 patch and they are still the same just seems to be those tow portraits that are corrupted. I might try reinstalling the whole thing from Civ4 up but its a bit of hastle. My 7600 card does have a problem overheating when showing 3d graphoics after a while but this even appears on the game setup screen when you are choosing your race so it cant be that! I'm stumped!

That Korean dude has a light-bender! Trade him a tech for it and head for the College showers.....

My in-game settings are as follows:
all graphics set to "high", anti-aliasing=4
2nd colum - I have 5 boxes checked:

single unit graphics
detailed city info
full screen
high detail terrain
show city radius

I do remember a thread about 1-3 months ago, where there was a similar leader head problem. There was no mention of an invisible leader, or towers that lead to infinity however. There was also a problem showing the leader name as "TEXT_"... something or other. IIRC, the problem had something to do with non-english file names that weren't reading correctly. I don't know if this is any help or not. Good luck.

Man, I love the idea of talking to a floating moustache. Maybe I should try and emulate these conditions :p

Well for anyone with the same problem I did correct it by reinstalling the whole game from fresh. But with the terrible Windows XP this wasnt easy as even when I had removed all the folders etc it still kept asking me whether I wanted to play rather than install from the basic CivIII disks. I also tried cleaning the registry using Regcleaner but that did nothing. To my horror when looking in the registry I found loads of old references to the various Civ programs plus loads of other games I had got rid of years ago! So I cant recommend Regcleaner it just doesnt do 'what it says on the tin'. I had to manually go through searching for and deleting all references to Civ and then it installed correctly.

And no more floating moustache, mores the pity. But no bright red Ottoman which was better.

Still get the towers rising to infinity though after an hours play but im pretty sure thats my useless card overheating or something. I wont be getting another Nvidea card thats for sure. From now on I stick to Radeon I had no problem with those ever and they seemed far faster!

So thanks anyway for the help guys !?! :0)
