http://www.civfanatics.net/methos/hof/staff/gauntlet.gifWhile the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we like to run time-definite competitions between updates that we call Gauntlets. Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << (http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/rules.php) BEFORE playing!

Settings:

Victory Condition: Domination (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
Difficulty: Emperor
Starting Era: Ancient
Map Size: Standard
Map Type: Terra
Speed: Normal
Civ: Babylon (Hammurabi)
Opponents: Any
Version: 3.13.001
Date: 10th April to 10th May 2008

Must not play as Inca.

The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

If you use maximum number of opponents, does anyone know whether the old world on Terra map will give you enough for Domination?

I think Terra *can* give you old world domination, but it's a gamble.

If you stuff the map full to lower the land requirement, I'm almost certain you can hit domination with just the old world. The only problem is that you may actually trigger conquest before domination...

How can you trigger conquest before domination?

You eliminate everyone on the maincontinent, but main continent land size is not enough for domination victory.

Here is a thought: It may make sense to have Joao as one of the opponents (and save him for last to attack), and maybe even gift/trade him optics as soon as possible. With his carracks, he can get a settler and build a city out in the new world sooner then anybody else. That would allow you to then conquer the entire "old world" sooner without triggering a conquest victory (hoping, of course, it will have sufficient land mass percentage to get a domination). Of course, I assume some of you warmongering pros intend to have the game finished well before optics becomes available;), but it might be a decent strategy for some of us . . .

Most of the time you don't even have to declare war on the last 1-2 civs. At least in Vanilla/Warlords.

I believe the split is like 2/3 v. 1/3, that is, 67% land mass in the Old World, while with max opponents you need only 56%. However there is a random variation, so at times the Old World may be so small as not to have 56%.

just play require complete kills, there has to be some enemy scout/spy/warriors out there in the middle of nowhere so you dont trigger conquest accidentally

just curious, if you captured all ai cities, and one of the ai has a scout and you sign a peace treaty, but no open border with him/her. Once your cover all your starting continent with culture, does the ai scout automatically teleports to the other continent?
Also a follow up question, if you play pangea with required complete kill enable using the same situation above (except the map difference), where will the scout go? Or does he disappear because your culture is too powerful? :mischief:

If you played pangea, caputed all AI cities and covered the continent with culture you would have won by domination a long time ago b/c you would have 100% population and 100% land.

let say you turn off culture and domination victories

let say you turn off culture and domination victories

Then you win conquest once all the AI cities are captured/razed. "Require complete kills" doesn't seem to prevent this

I started a game with 10 opponents. After one of them created a colony, the BTS HOF mod says ...

"10 or less opponents are required for a Standard World Size."

in the settings tab of the F8 pop-up.

Can this HOF warning be ignored? The game started with valid HOF parameters.

(I'm sure I've seen this issue in the forums before, but I can't find the question or resolution in the searches I've attempted.)

Sun Tzu WuWe only worry about the number of opponents you start with. We see the effect of colonies all the time. ;)

Congratulations to Thlypsis for his 1886 AD win! :goodjob:

I guess this one wasn't too popular as we only got the one entry.

Big props to Thlypsis!:bowdown: I kept seeing that I had a shot at 2nd...but I could not get anything to work out. I tried PA, early rushes, low and high water, min and max AIs. Nothing was going my way. Not popular perhaps, but I enjoyed the struggle.:(
