View Full Version : Westland Wyvern
Saschkin Apr 11, 2008, 06:52 PM Just finished the Westland Wyvern, one of my favorite planes..
..its a British turboprop naval attack plane of the early fifties
which saw action in the Suez war.

EDIT: removed animation mistake
Edit2: Changed the name of the .nif to "Mosquito.nif" to be on the safe side
(see "Uhu" thread -> http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=6938866#post6938866)
..this time i snatched the animation from Coyotes Mosquito which is an
Avenger animation with a second animated propeller - i was too stupid to do
this.. ..so thanks :D (didnt dare to rename the files so theyre still called
Mosquito :) )
..the download should be complete for all i know, i tested it in my Wolfshanze modmodmod testbed which should already
contain all the files needed so if you run into problems adding this to another mod please let me know.
Wolfshanze Apr 11, 2008, 07:04 PM Very nicely done!
mamba Apr 12, 2008, 01:44 AM Hm, I am unable to download the unit from filefront.
I get a file called wyvern.rar.dlmpartial and the download is supposed to be complete, but when I rename it to .rar (assuming it really is finished, as the site says), I cannot open it.
Could you please upload to another site (like filefront (http://www.filefront.com/)) ? One that doesn't require an ActiveX control for the download and then still fails to do it right ;)
Thanks.
Saschkin Apr 12, 2008, 03:43 AM errr...oops, i cant even download it myself...
But.. ..i can attach it to my post here as it seems so here you go..
..and thanks wolf :)
EDIT: removed animation mistake
EDIT": File is now in the database, see above
The_Coyote Apr 12, 2008, 09:56 AM nice model, nice to see that my changed avenger animation has use for someone else (btw renaming the files wouldnīt work, the links in the KFM file directs to this files, you would need to create a new kfm with esemjay kfm converter - the easy way - and link to the renamed files)
btw 1: i found your reference, your skin looks really like it :goodjob: and glad to see that no smoothing error happend this time
btw 2: have you tried to add a second propeller model to the same node, only change the position? I have never tried, but believe it could work (and want to know if my believe is right ;) )
again, nice model
Saschkin Apr 12, 2008, 10:36 AM Thanks Coyote :)
hm, what did i do, you know i dont really understand the purpose of most nodes, blocks etc, i just copy and relink stuff until it works :D
My first attempt was to just copy the whole propeller branch.. ..after some experimentation i gave up...
I then searched this forum, found your mosquito thread and tried relinking in the .kf files (via Nifskope) but that was a wrong approach as well..
..with your animation moving the nodes back and forth makes the second propeller wobble ingame so i tried to keep the proportions of everything
as best as i could..
It still seems to wobble a very little but im not sure of the reason, i rotated one of the propeller meshes 180° to have a more counterrotating impression,
if i dont rotate it it doesnt wobble but you almost dont see the second propeller at all..
..so in short, nope, didnt try that :)
as for the texture: snatched it from my reference and changed it only a little to make it fit and have the right colors
btw: just downloaded the kfm converter so i can work on my understanding of what i am doing :mischief:
GeneralMatt Apr 12, 2008, 10:43 AM Looks superb sir!
The_Coyote Apr 12, 2008, 10:51 AM the strange propeller effect is caused, afaik, there a two propeller nodes in nifskope (fighter and avenger animation), one where the propeller object is linked and second the "mother" node. The last one turns, so when you change the position of the first (where the object) and the second rotate your entire moved node rotate (and gaves funny effect, i had this for a month).
My idea was, to add a second propeller to the object node (the first)
Saschkin Apr 12, 2008, 11:19 AM i just tried to remove the turret node and make the second propeller bone a child of the original propeller dummy,
which is what i think you meant, with the result that both propellers stopped turning..
Im not sure about the wobbling, i almost believe its a skin issue and as such an illusion :D
As i said if i dont rotate the second propeller mesh it doesnt wobble (or its completely invisible...) but as you only notice it in front view and
zoomed in, i traded a little wobbling for a better overall look of the propellers..
..and thanks Matt :)
The_Coyote Apr 12, 2008, 11:34 AM Ok, i downloaded the model and looked in nifskope, you made a small error, itīs the reason for the second prob to wobble, see pic.
if you want to move the prop you should move the turret node
Exact the same mistake i did for a month :)
Saschkin Apr 12, 2008, 12:24 PM Aaah, that did it, wonderful... thanks again Coyote..:crazyeye:
Replaced all the downloads with the fixed version..
The_Coyote Apr 12, 2008, 12:42 PM :) glad to help, and donīt worry, itīs only a question of training and i have only one month more
mamba Apr 12, 2008, 01:54 PM You know, you should really stop using fileplanet. I have the exact same problem as before with the download not working :(
EDIT : or did you update the link in post 4 ?
EDIT 2 : yes, you did :)
Duque d'Caxias Apr 13, 2008, 09:15 PM [QUOTE=The_Coyote;6709007]nice model, nice to see that my changed avenger animation has use for someone else
Hi, Coyote! Where can we find your avenger model for download?
By the way, nice unit Saschkin!
