View Full Version : Starcraft tournament

With the upcoming excitement of Starcraft II, I have to imagine that many CFCers such as myself rekindled their interest in Starcraft. I got around to thinking today that we should have our very own CFC Starcraft tournament, or atleast have some peeps play each other on bnet. Surely with Starcraft's popularity, and seeing how many people on these forums mention it and play it, heck even have avatars (looking at you, Erik Mesoy), this can get pretty big. Who's in?

I'm in, but I can't find my Brood War disc so I'de have to play regular Starcraft...:p

Hahaha I would definitely be up for this. But OMG... nc-1701... you have to be kidding me. Without brood wars the game is horribly imbalanced.

Okay, I'm going to install Brood War. Maybe I'll enroll in a tournament when I'm older...

Yeah, I know it REALLY sucked... Fortunatly I just found Brood Wars yesterday!!! Somehow it fell behind these boxes next to my computer desk and was wedged between them and a wall...

yeah I know how that can be. I've lost my original disk years ago, so to reinstall it I had to borrow it from my roommate.

Bah, age makes no difference. Besides, I know both you, me, and ncc-1701 are under 18 (possibly U-16 iirc about ncc).

Thought this thread had died a long time ago. Good to see responses :).

The weird thing was, I came across this thread quite randomly when I decided to search the forums for threads related to SC last night. The others were at least 3 years old.

I turned 17 a few weeks ago:rolleyes:

Anyway, yeah I'm glad I came across this thread. What type of tournament would you want to do? (Assuming we get enough people) Do you want to play something like BGH or Fastest? Or something else?

Kennigit

I would suggest simply having a round robin of 1v1s, meaning on the maps without infinite minerals (ie. blue storm/python/lost temple, not zero clutter or fastest possibles). But more realistically is that no real "tournament" will happen but people can just play each other periodically: just get people from cfc to play on bnet against/with each other, add to friends list, etc.

Do you any of you play on ICCUP? The lag is waaaay less there than on Bnet.

EDIT: On another note, if this gets off the ground I might be willing to shoutcast

Hmm... I'm actually too lazy to organize a tournament, but if people are playing on bnet I'd recommend just posting your screen name and adding to friends list. I'll post mine soon I guess.

Alright. I'm Hes-Dead-Jim on US east. another puntastical screen name :).

Lord_Iggy
Jun 13, 2008, 03:41 PM
I am KaYoTiKReVeNgE, on US West.

That gives us:

KaYoTiKReVeNgE/US West/Lord_Iggy
Hes-Dead-Jim/US East/SpockFederation
AmericanJesus/US East/Raisin Bran
nc-1701d/?/nc-1701

We could just do this as a league, playing matches against each other and reporting the results here.

Kennigit
Jun 13, 2008, 05:21 PM
Actually, I got Hes-Dead-Jim on all the servers iirc (USwest and Europe as well), so you can add me there too. I just am only on US East when I play, but I have it reserved.

See you all around- if acouple more join, we can get a small league started. (see lord iggy above).

I just wanted to ask how to attack-move in StarCraft.

Raisin Bran
Jun 16, 2008, 08:27 PM
you "Patrol"

Quick key P and set a destination, your units will advance and attack whatever enemy stands in the way

Kennigit
Jun 17, 2008, 02:45 PM
Or simply "A" and right click. Patrol is useful for some permanent attack stuff (ie. scourge can patrol to gaurd versus dropships) or for really fast heavier micro intensive stuff (like vulture micro; more pro-ish level of skill).

On another note, I'm a pretty big fan of use map settings maps. We don't have to just play starcraft.

Same here, lately I've been creating; XMen rpg, heavens last stand, marine special forces, starship troopers (classic)and the like, I mostly play UMS

My favourite for use map settings is Hero Line Wars in Warcraft III.

You're not supposed to link to piracy stuff here- I've already got brood war, BTW. So you might want to edit it out of your post before a mod sees that second link.

BTW, Battlenet is free and simple as well.

It's not piracy stuff. Blizzard released starcraft broodwar rights in 2007, so it should be free. However i removed the links. If someone want them Pm me :)

Just for a small update, me and nc-1701 were able to play on bnet. We played 2 normal games, splitting it 1 each (he won zvp, I won tvp) and then played some ums. Hope to see you guys around.

Yeah, I won on the map I chose, Blood Bath, and he won on his map Python:lol:

Hey if anyone is on battle.net just use channel "op cfc", that should make it easier for us to meet up for games. Hope to see all of you some more!

Kennigit
Jul 13, 2008, 08:48 PM
^^ actually, just use /f l to see whos online and use /f m. I personally kill my time in various other channels. But still, hope to see everyone around and it is a good idea to make a new channel (op cfc) once you've /f m each other and agree to start a game: it's much easier to talk about maps or w/e in a channel than on /f m.

UMS games annoy me...

I'm not on very often since I play UDP with friends on a regular basis, but I'm Mjollner on USEast and WonkaWash on ICCup (although I haven't started playing there yet)

Raisin Bran

Couldn't we just set a time a date for a game and try to connect via IP?

Magma_Dragoon

You mean SC2 right? Ooops.

I used to play UMS games all the time, mostly LotR and RE, and sometimes I played civ (!!!) on SC. In fact, I rarely played real SC because people only wanted to play on the same two maps.

Assy_McGee on USEast.

Make liberal use of lockdown to stop siege tanks. BW Zerg mission 8 is supposedly the hardest in the game, even harder than Omega.

Neither am I. Not by any stretch of the imagination. In fact i'm not good at all.

I am, however, better than the friends I play with. I really want to improve, but VODs and replays can only get you so far, and I can't learn from failure without losing. So maybe I'll look some of you guys up, although I play USEast. I need a sparring partner who will help me know what I did wrong.

Again, Mjollner on USEast

This some good websites where you can find tips and dowload replays

http://www.gosugamers.net/starcraft/

http://www.starcraft.org/

Here a group of experts will analyze your replays and tell you what's wrong

Anyone been following the MSL? Finals are in an hour, and I'm hoping to see some great Protoss vs Protoss.

^^ I try to watch the pro scene, or atleast stay on top of it. I saw the finals. If you want, all the coverage (in english) is at sc2gg.com

BTW, this is the first time I looked at this thread since June. Personally, I've lost interest :p .

Reviving this idea- would we be interested in getting a group of SCers interested in getting some practice so we don't get completely stomped when Stacraft II is released?

KaYoTiKReVeNgE on US West.

I'm so sorry about the name. I made it when I was 12. :p

Well I don't game on my PC much anymore and now I have moved on to stuff like Super Mario 64. Currently, on my personal top 25 games list, StarCraft sits at #20.
