This mod, in the styles and tradition of Phillip Jose Farmer, Alan Moore, Robert Heinlein and many others, is based on the world of fiction. Drawing on mythology, folklore, literature and pop culture, Fictionalization IV takes human imagination’s fragments of stories and makes them into a single universe. Some of the characters in this mod, like Firefly and Hynkell, come from film, others like Charmant and Froshkonig, come from fairytale. Still others, like El Cid and Ivan are real, but still hold strong places in national legend. And if you have a favorite film, novel, comic, play, TV show or anything else you can think of that I haven’t represented in the mod yet, I’ll try my best to work it in somehow.
A WORD ON SUGGESTIONS:
I'll only consider using a suggestion if it fits the following criteria:
- It fits both the gameplay and the source material: I'm trying to honor the borrowed material I'm working with, while still keeping the game interesting and fun. So if you request Fonzie to be a military hero, I won't consider it because it doesn't fit the source material.
- It fits within the game's setting: The game is set on Earth within the rough time frame of the dawn of civilization up to about 200 years into the future. Anything outside of this frame can't be used. I've had several requests for Star Wars aspects to the mod. Since that series takes place in a different galaxy with absolutely no ties to Earth, I can't use it. Same with The Lord of the Rings. Middle Earth has been described variously as a different dimension or simply as prehistoric earth. Either way, it's tough to tie it into the world I'm working with. I can make exceptions for things that lie just outside of the timeframe, such as the Conan stories (set in the very late stone age) or early Star Trek.
Keep in mind that this is a beta version. I'm still looking for other programmers to help me make the final project.

cfkane Jul 27, 2008, 11:12 PM Beta two is now released.
New diplomacy music has been added to the mod, as well as 11 new wonders and 12 new hero units. This is a beta, so I'm still looking for extra help on the final project.

He sure does! :ar15:
This looks cool! Great work!
mice Jul 28, 2008, 04:41 AM Urgh, it's for 3.13 - I have 3.17 and it crashes. Not surprising, but I'd like to play it.
Any sign of an update to 3.17?
cfkane Jul 28, 2008, 04:50 AM I'll do that ASAP
thomas.berubeg Jul 28, 2008, 08:46 AM did you see my post in the thread out in creation and customization main forum?
cfkane Jul 28, 2008, 11:43 AM Yes. I'll download Blue Marble as soon as I get the mod workable for 3.17
cfkane Jul 29, 2008, 07:30 PM Fictionalization IV is now updated to beta version 2.1, with 3.17 compatibility and Blue Marble terrain graphics.
trotty Jul 31, 2008, 06:50 AM Really a good idea!
357RVR Jul 31, 2008, 05:20 PM Great concept, I'm downloading now to give it a try. Thanks!
thomas.berubeg Jul 31, 2008, 05:21 PM Yes. I'll download Blue Marble as soon as I get the mod workable for 3.17
sezereth"s isn"t blue marble... it"s even better! (more realistic)
cfkane Aug 02, 2008, 02:08 PM I've actually grown fond of the Blue Marble terrain graphics. I think I'll keep it in further updates.
Also, I'd really appreciate any feedback on the mod at all. I'm wide open to suggestions.
I'd also like help if you're adept with python or SDK; my plans for the mod currently exceed my programming abilities.
cfkane Aug 09, 2008, 10:59 PM Fictionalization IV now has a forum at CivJunction (http://www.civjunction.freeforums.org/viewforum.php?f=49&sid=b4d27d9d3933dd288fe566ecc4d2de33)
Zomgmeister Aug 10, 2008, 07:01 AM If you want to include something named "Fearless Leader" in russian language, then correct word would be "Besstrashniy". Though I fail to see who is that, sounds very alien and not really fits.
If you need some extracts from russian folklore, then here we are:
Ivan-durak (Ivan the Fool): village fool who is always terribly lucky, gains assistance of various strong powers and triumphs in the end, getting kingdom and princess. Good guy.
Levsha (Lefthander): genius crafter, who was able to shoe (as in horseshoe) the flea. Industrous, good guy.
Koschei bessmertniy (Koschei the Immortal): something close to modern fantasy lich, very old and evil powerful feudal lord with immortality. Extremely bad guy.
I recommend to use english translations, because no one knows what the hell is "bessmertniy", but everyone understands what is the "immortal". Exception may be in Levsha case.
If you want some of trash-communistic flavour, then just use Stalin with possible rename into "Otets narodov" (Father of Nations), most common euphemism during his cult of personality.
Just trying to help :)
cfkane Aug 10, 2008, 12:40 PM "Fearless Leader" is from Rocky and Bullwinkle. I don't speak a word of Russian, so I just used Babelfish. Forgive my ignorance :)
I'm familiar with Koschei the Immortal (sometimes Koschei the Deathless, right?). I was thinking about using him in a quest; Koschei appears, find Buyan, kill his soul and all that.
But this is all great stuff. Thanks for the input!
Thinker19930602 Aug 13, 2008, 12:03 PM My humble suggestions:
-Jack Ryan for Leader of the US!
-The lost city of Tanis and the Ark of the Covenent as Wonders
(think Raiders of the Lost Ark)
-Acatore as a wonder
-Paranormal happenings as events (just a joke!)
-The Ancient Olympics as a wonder
-Odessyus as a Greek Leader
-Romules and Remules as Roman leaders (sorry, don't know how to spell their names)
-Arnold the Govenator as an American or Austrian leader (you could style him as a T-800)
-(An) Alien Civ(s) **COUGH*The Covenent*COUGH**
cfkane Aug 13, 2008, 08:11 PM Jack Ryan seems like a good suggestion. I might lose one of the other American leaders to make room for him.
I like the Ark of the Covenant, too. I've already been planning a Holy Grail wonder using Petra as the wonder art (since that's where they shot the last scenes in Last Crusade).
I already have Odysseus as a hero, and Romulus and Remus as one leader (how often do you see them apart from each other, really?)
You'll have to tell me more about Acatore, and be a bit more specific about "paranormal events".
cfkane Aug 17, 2008, 07:30 AM You know, I actually considered using Ryan in my early drafts of the mod, but I discarded it because I was really unfamiliar with the Clancyverse. I'm sure there's a lot of stuff in the Jack Ryan novels that would fit well with this mod, but I would need a crash course in it first: what world leaders feature prominently, who might be good candidates for Great People, that sort of thing.
dreadknought Aug 17, 2008, 02:07 PM This sounds cool, going to try it out tonite and see how it plays. Nice idea.
Thinker19930602 Aug 18, 2008, 07:05 AM You know, I actually considered using Ryan in my early drafts of the mod, but I discarded it because I was really unfamiliar with the Clancyverse. I can answer most questions about Jack Ryan, having read all the books myself.
You earlier asked about Acatore, well Acatore is like El Dorado, but was rumored to have highly sophisticated technology that would be found more often in 2000 A.D. rather than 5000A.D. Like El Dorado, it was immensly rich and was located in the South American jungles.
dreadknought Aug 18, 2008, 11:59 PM My first game was fairly brief, large map on monarch diff as english. Did advanced start w/ 5 cities and was 2nd in score until gilgamesh attacked with achilles and quite a few other troops (agg. ai). Had built the oracle and great wall but not enough defenders, Achilles doing collateral damage  Like the hero units alot but if you dont grab one then you are in for a battle. It was a shame because I had some nice resources, on to the next.
cfkane Aug 23, 2008, 01:01 PM Hey Thinker, did you get my message?
Thinker19930602 Aug 23, 2008, 10:52 PM Hey Thinker, did you get my message?
Yes I did.
dreadknought Aug 26, 2008, 04:53 PM Some of the hero-types upgrade, some dont, is that intended? Also I got Roland and stuck a GG with him and he became Godly for a while, I ended up with 25 upgrades on him, ,lol, and at one point he held off an attack of over 20 units on a city, it was fun but I was thinking he is overpowered.
Thinker19930602 Aug 26, 2008, 05:18 PM Hey cfkane, can you post the mod in .zip or .7z (7-zip) format?
WinRar is problematic.
cfkane Aug 26, 2008, 06:30 PM Some of the hero-types upgrade, some dont, is that intended? Hm, I should fix that. I'll probably make it so GGs can't be attached to heroes. And I know about the upgrading problem; Miles Gloriosus and Horatio Hornblower don't upgrade at the moment (they currently have Leader Experience points but no Leader Promotion). I'll fix that in the next update. For Gloriosus it might fit with the character - he's more bark than bite in his original incarnation - but for Hornblower it doesn't fit the character at all.
cfkane Sep 04, 2008, 06:03 PM A new version of the beta is now up.
dreadknought Sep 04, 2008, 06:37 PM Im in the middle of a game now but look forward to trying the update, alot of changes?
cfkane Sep 04, 2008, 07:52 PM Added a few leaders, and replaced one, I think I threw in a rough draft of a new hero unit, but my main goal was to fix the hero experience issue. I've created new UnitCombat classes for the heroes (hero archer, hero melee, etc.) which are essentially the same as the non-hero combat types, only they can't receive leadership promotions.
darkyxinhow Sep 10, 2008, 03:48 PM I was reallly missing a mod like this, i loved the verne themed ones back in civ2. btw, verne is a really good inspiration for fantastic themed mods like this one. (nautilus, captain nemo, journey to the center of the earth, journey to the moon, and so on).
i also think that some mythic barb creatures would be a great addition to your mod. some of them could act as wandering barbarians, such as the giant squid, moby dick, the krakken, dragons, bigfoot, godzilla, king kong and others, giving small bonuses to the player who defeats them, while some of them could act as stationary (and more powerful) barb units guarding bigger bonuses.
cfkane Sep 10, 2008, 05:46 PM Way ahead of you on that one. The Nautilus is one of the hero units, and I've already worked in a couple references to Journey to the Center of the Earth. I'm also debating whether or not I should rename The Apollo Program to The Baltimore Gun Club.
Barbarian Hero units are also going to play a part; I've been planning them from the start. I've been thinking a lot lately about which to include and what bonuses they would give. King Kong was in since the very early drafts; once he's killed, the victor civilization will receive a Great Artist (assuming that Carl Denham was able to sell his story of the Skull Island expedition after the end of the movie). I haven't programmed it yet, but Medusa will also be in the mod. When she's killed the player receives the Pegasus. Other ones I've been thinking about include Wellesian Tripods, flying saucers, zombies, European style dragons, (Chinese ones will be a special unit for the Chinese), Daleks, rocs, the Nemean Lion, Triffids, Godzilla, those giant ants from 1950's B-movies, and the Big Bad Wolf. I hadn't thought of using Moby Dick, though. ;)
But right now I'm getting back in the swing of a new school year, so any new updates might be slow coming.
cfkane Sep 19, 2008, 06:50 PM Say, is there anyone on the boards that knows anything about either Spanish or Iranian/Persian mythology and folklore? I'm a bit stuck on some ways to flesh these two civs out.
Thinker19930602 Sep 22, 2008, 11:26 PM For Spain you could make El Cid as a hero, use Spanish Dragons, and some other things.
For Persia, are you familier with the Prince of Persia video games? Use that. Also incorepate Flying Carpets, or some other things. Sorry, can't think clearly.
Hey how about including some characters and units from the Metal Gear universe?
cfkane Oct 01, 2008, 10:43 PM I've been plugging away at a new version of the beta. I've added a good number of the Alliance wonders, and their respective units. I just need to round up some of the artwork and fix some python issues.
darkyxinhow Oct 02, 2008, 04:28 PM Say, is there anyone on the boards that knows anything about either Spanish or Iranian/Persian mythology and folklore? I'm a bit stuck on some ways to flesh these two civs out.
@Persian
Rostam, who is probably the most popular mythical hero of the Shahnameh (the most important text on Persian mythology, written 1.000 A.D. circa by Ferdowsi), also referred to as "the champion of champions" in the same book. There's some stuff about him over wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rostam you can also check some others characters I'm not aware about in the "Good and Evil" section at this page, also Wiki's: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persian_mythology
cfkane Oct 02, 2008, 05:12 PM The Simurgh caught my eye. It might make for a viable Legendary unit for the Persians. I just need one for Spain now.
Thinker19930602 Oct 02, 2008, 05:58 PM The Simurgh caught my eye. It might make for a viable Legendary unit for the Persians. I just need one for Spain now.
Spain does not really have any mythical heros, just folk heros.
Thinker19930602 Oct 02, 2008, 06:00 PM Hey cfkane, can you post the mod in .zip or .7z (7-zip) format?
WinRar is problematic.
Sorry about the double post, but can you please take this into consideration?
cfkane Oct 02, 2008, 10:02 PM Sorry about the double post, but can you please take this into consideration?
I've just downloaded 7-zip. So the next version should be posted in that format.
cfkane Oct 02, 2008, 10:09 PM Spain does not really have any mythical heros, just folk heros.
That's fine. I've given a pretty good description of the Legend Units on my CivJunction page if you're not clear.
Thinker19930602 Oct 03, 2008, 10:46 PM In that Case, Spain would have El Cid, St. Santiago, and some of the conquistadors as folk heros.
dreadknought Oct 03, 2008, 10:51 PM Sherlock Homes, got to get him in somewhere (english hero or leader), Im still playing the first version you posted and loving it, also the fountain of youth occured to me as an interesting wonder.

Sorry for the db post, forum lagged on me.
cfkane Oct 03, 2008, 11:48 PM In that Case, Spain would have El Cid, St. Santiago, and some of the conquistadors as folk heros.
El Cid is already Spain's leader, and the Conquistador is already a Spanish UU. I need something else that's both appropriate and complimentary
Sherlock Homes, got to get him in somewhere (english hero or leader), Im still playing the first version you posted and loving it, also the fountain of youth occured to me as an interesting wonder.
Sorry for the db post, forum lagged on me.
I have Holmes in the game as a hero, but he isn't working right now. The unit model doesn't animate, and I've written a python function for him that isn't working either (he's supposed to create a Baker St. building in a city the same way FfH's gypsy wagons create gypsy camps. Supposed to, but isn't)
I had considered the Fountain of Youth, but I think it would work best as a unique improvement (again, like the ones in FfH). But considering I can't write or compile custom SDK functions to save my life, I'll have to put that idea on hold for now.
darkyxinhow Oct 04, 2008, 12:46 PM @Spain
Spain'll be really hard: before the Roman period, there were too many groups with many ethnic origins. Celtics, protoceltics, tartessians, iberians and a few minors. Besides, it was influenced (and colonized, sometimes) by phoenicians, carthaginians and greeks and we don't know much about their pre-Roman mithologies. After the Romans, there were Visigoths, Franks, Dark Ages, about a dozen states at the Moors period, Reconquista, and the formation of the Spanish National State, so things are pretty messy.
You could try Basque mythology, that seems to have Celtic roots and to be influenced by Christianism. I think people know a few things about it (try Wiki =p) and it could be a good shot.
dreadknought Oct 04, 2008, 09:30 PM Jose Gaspar Gasparilla, famous purported pirate known as the last of the buccaneers in florida folklore, they still have an annual festival for him, check wiki entry.
Thinker19930602 Oct 05, 2008, 08:47 PM For "Pop-Culture" influences for this mod, exactly what do you use and what is your criteria?
cfkane Oct 05, 2008, 09:45 PM For pop-culture, I have only one or two criteria
- It has to be popular. Some of the characters and references I use may not be mainstream, but they would definitely have at least a decent cult following.
- It has to be relevant to the timespan and place we're working with. The time span is recorded history up until the near future, and the place is Earth. So for example, I can't use anything from Star Wars since it takes place in a separate galaxy.
Other than that I'm open.
Thinker19930602 Oct 06, 2008, 02:36 PM Then what about including things from any of the following:
-James Bond (more than just Bond himself)
-Metal Gear Solid
-Some wonders/treasure featured in the "National Treasure" films
-24
-Jason Bourne Films
This is what I came up with just off the top of my head.
cfkane Oct 06, 2008, 04:19 PM I have Solid Snake, Jack Bauer and Jason Bourne listed as Great Spies. You can see the list of Great People in the UnitInfos.xml file in the mod folder.
Thinker19930602 Oct 06, 2008, 04:35 PM I have Solid Snake, Jack Bauer and Jason Bourne listed as Great Spies. You can see the list of Great People in the UnitInfos.xml file in the mod folder.
There are more than great spies in the source material. Liquid Snake could be a military hero. Plenty of the Bond villains would also fit into that catergory. CTU could be a wonder, built by Bauer, which would offer Counter-Intelligence bonuses (foriegn spies would find it more difficult to operate in your territory and would find it much harder to pull off espionage missions). The CIA unit from "The Bourne Ultimatum" could also be an intelligence wonder (but would have bonuses for all of your spies operating in foriegn territory). There is a lot more in the source material than just Great People (though CTU techs like O'Brian and Morris would make good Great Scientists and Ocelot and Big Boss from the Metal Gear games would make good Great Generals).
P.S. Perha[s Maxwell Smart could also make a great Spy? If he isn't already, though.
P.P.S. For a Spanish Folk Hero You should use El Cid, he was more of a soldier than a leader, replace him in the leadership role with King Alfonso. PM me or Post for more info on him.
cfkane Oct 06, 2008, 06:48 PM I really only used El Cid as a leader because I couldn't think of a usable fictional Spanish leader. Unless someone can point me in the direction of one.
And the Legendary units aren't supposed to be individuals, they're supposed to be archetypes. So the American LU is a Gunslinger, the Greek one is a Centaur, the English one is a Knight of the Round Table.
Thinker19930602 Oct 06, 2008, 07:25 PM I really only used El Cid as a leader because I couldn't think of a usable fictional Spanish leader. Unless someone can point me in the direction of one..
El Cid was a real person. His exploits and actions have been romanticized, dramitized and exaggerated over the years, but he did actually exist. Likewise, The Spanish king that I mentioned also existed, but part of his story is also shrouded in romantisized folklore. Some other leaders in the mod, like Odesseus and Romuleus/Remus, also may have existed, but their stories have been given the cloak of legend and have been turned into mythological heroes by storytellers of their time. Most mythological stories, including the ones referenced in this mod, have at least something of a base in reality; wheather that is an event or a person. What I Am trying to say is, consider your use of "fiction".
cfkane Oct 06, 2008, 09:46 PM I knew all that. That's why I have Ivan the Terrible and Haroun Al-Raschid in the mod.
Thinker19930602 Oct 07, 2008, 03:31 PM El Cid was a real person. His exploits and actions have been romanticized, dramitized and exaggerated over the years, but he did actually exist. I apoloize if I have sounded a bit antagonizing, please forgive me.
On to the mod...
I have been thinking of some new Ideas for some new Corporations:
-Hendley Associates (from the Ryanverse): Set up by former Senator Gerald Paul Hendley (as a self-sufficient, shadow intelligence operation working outside the normal chain of command), It produces some gold and intelligence (at the cost of public order); and could also provide special spies...
-Universal Exports (from the Bond films): A business front for Her Majesty's Secret Service, It would provide lots of intelligence at the cost of gold.
-King Oil (from the Bond film "The World is not Enough"): Oil Company set up by the plotting vilianess, Electra King. Takes in Oil and gives back gold and less Oil.
-Executive Operations (from the Mercenaries videogames): Provides recruitable mercs (very powerful but very, very expensive) and some military production bonuses, eats up gold
-Tactical Solutions (from the Mercenaries videogames): Provides recruitable mercs (for the military on a budget) and some military production bonuses, eats gold

The biggest thing I've added are the Alliances. These are wonders that grant access to special units like Amazons, Cyclops, etc. I still can't get my python functions working though. If anyone reading this has python experience, I could use your diagnosis.

cfkane Oct 16, 2008, 11:39 AM Brilliant mod. I played through till about 1970AD but when I built a 'Toy Soldier' I got a CTD..
1st, thanks...
2nd, what's CTD?
Hurri Oct 16, 2008, 12:32 PM Er.. Crash To Desktop, as I understand it. Maybe I should use less acronyms.
cfkane Oct 16, 2008, 01:05 PM Hm... I was afraid of that. I'll check it out once I get off work.
cfkane Oct 16, 2008, 10:47 PM Fixed it. There was an out of place comma in the Art definitions. :gripe:
I've released the revised XML file in a quick patch.
Link to the patch (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=10974)
dreadknought Oct 18, 2008, 09:26 PM Cockagnie national wonder doesnt seem to work, im still playing the version before the last update so if you fixed it, nevermind.:mischief:
cfkane Oct 18, 2008, 11:19 PM Cockagnie national wonder doesnt seem to work, im still playing the version before the last update so if you fixed it, nevermind.:mischief:
How is it not working? Is it not affecting the city like it's supposed to? (no disease, no unhappiness, etc.)
dreadknought Oct 19, 2008, 03:47 PM I didnt see any effect from it all in my current game.
cfkane Oct 19, 2008, 06:54 PM Hm... Cockaigne is working fine for me...
If you download the newest version tell me if it's still not working.
dreadknought Oct 19, 2008, 08:15 PM Thx ,will let you know after I play the newest version probaly in a couple weeks. I think the hero concept is what really makes this great so keep adding please:goodjob:
cfkane Oct 23, 2008, 07:29 AM As soon as I can find appropriate unit models I will. The main thing holding me back is a lack of suitable artwork.
I'm working on the next update right now, and I'm going to include at least two more heroes: Sun Wukong, "Monkey" from Journey to the West, and G-8, a fighter pilot from several pulp novels (I realized that I didn't have an air hero, so this should compensate for that).
LordGek Oct 23, 2008, 08:15 AM The Sorceress turning villagers into pigs event is borked. It supposedly happened to something like "%2City" (definitely not the one default named Persian city I had at that point) which I assume indicates some sort of typo in the event itself.
cfkane Oct 23, 2008, 09:17 AM yeah, I've been having problems with the event text. I should be able to fix that by the next update.
cfkane Oct 29, 2008, 01:07 PM I've been toying with the idea of adding in World Improvements, like the kind seen in FfH. This would of course be after I finally work out the .dll compilers.
So, stuff like the Fountain of Youth, Pride Rock, Maple White Land and the Black Lagoon would play a part in the mod.
But that's pretty far off for now. I think for the next installment I'm going to try focusing on the barbarian monsters in the game, as well as special religion-based units.
dreadknought Oct 29, 2008, 08:49 PM Look forward to it, your work is appreciated, Im trying a game of the wolfrev. mod right now but will check back.
cfkane Nov 10, 2008, 01:06 PM I should be able to do another update of the beta soon. A couple of changes:
- T'Challa is now a leader for the Zulu. He's from Marvel Comics and usually goes under the title of Black Panther
- Four more heroes have been added: Sun Wukong, G-8, D'Artagnan and CuChullain
- Three new wonders have been added: Greyfriar's School from the British "Billy Bunter" series, Iram of the Pillars which appears in Arabic myth, and Xanadu from the Coleridge poem of the same name. The Labyrinth wonder now uses the python effects from tsentom's Templo Mayor wonder (shortened anger duration from sacrificing population)
- Religions now have special units. The units are: the Jewish Golem, the Christian Knight Templar, the Islamic Djinn, the Hindu Vimana, the Buddhist Shaolin Monk, the Taoist Xian, the Confucian Junzi, the Yuggoth Shoggoth, the Witch Broom Rider, and the Martian Grokker.
cfkane Nov 13, 2008, 01:21 PM I've been trying to think of fiction-based random events for the mod to add to the handful I already have. Some of the events I already have include a town turning into a source of pigs (like Circe did in The Odyssey), two feuding families building a Monument in honor of their dead children (a la Romeo & Juliet), and gaining a source of hit movies after paying a laboratory for a satellite launch (MST3K). So, anything along those lines.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Scisless Nov 13, 2008, 05:13 PM This mod has a lot of promise. I can't be of any real help, but I'll still give some advice. First of all there should be Civ specific heroes, like the Greeks get Odysseus and Achilles and the British get James Bond and Allan Quartermain for instance. Also heroes should be a lot cheaper, by the time you build them they'll get obsolete too fast. Wonders and religions should be all fictional, no real-life ones.
Religions could have heroes too, like Fall from Heaven. Witchcraft can have heroes like Harry Potter or Gandalf the White while Chthulu's Call could have Dagon or maybe Cthulhu himself.
Some fictional religion ideas, The First Church of Fonz from Family Guy, The Jedi Order, The Cult of Kefka from Final Fantasy 6, Robotology from Futurama, The Church from His Dark Materials, and just for laughs a religion that worships Haruhi Suzumiya.
Well that's it for now, I hope my advice was of some use. Keep up the good work.

I had considered that at one point. But in a normal civ game, The Statue of Liberty and The Pentagon aren't exclusive to the Americans, and The Eiffel Tower and Versailles aren't exclusive to the French. So, if anyone can build those wonders, anyone can build any hero.
Also heroes should be a lot cheaper, by the time you build them they'll get obsolete too fast.
I've addressed this and the next update will have much cheaper heroes.
Wonders and religions should be all fictional, no real-life ones.
Well, since the mod is ultimately about culture, I think throwing out real-world religions would deny the rich literature that religions have brought to humanity.
Religions could have heroes too, like Fall from Heaven. Witchcraft can have heroes like Harry Potter or Gandalf the White while Chthulu's Call could have Dagon or maybe Cthulhu himself.
The next update will have religion-specific units, although they won't be heroes (I won't rule that out in the future though). I've decribed them in an earlier post.

I don't think I'll be adding any more religions to the mod, but thank you for your contributions.
The Capo Nov 13, 2008, 06:03 PM I just tried out the mod, it ran fine but for some reason I got a plethora of python error pop-ups while it was loading. I only played a few turns though so I could report this.
cfkane Nov 13, 2008, 06:17 PM Yeah, I've been having trouble with some of the python code I've added. For the next update I've turned off the offending functions until I can figure out what's going wrong.
MadmanOfALeader Nov 20, 2008, 06:38 PM I've got an idea for another leader. How about Achmed the Dead Terrorist for Arabia?
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/ab/Achmed.PNG
"Silence! I kill you!"
cfkane Nov 21, 2008, 12:05 AM C'mon, Achmed isn't even a head of state.
Rothos Nov 21, 2008, 10:00 AM How do I install this mod?
jakob ladder Nov 21, 2008, 10:34 AM can you please please please put in maximillien robespierre for the french.
more interesting than louis xvi, and his government was the closest thing to an actual utopian society the modern western (or otherwise for that matter) world has ever seen to my knowledge, and im a history major!
cfkane Nov 21, 2008, 11:52 AM How do I install this mod?
You need something like winzip or winrar. Open it up with that program, then extract it to Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods.
Rothos Nov 21, 2008, 12:44 PM thanks cfkane
cfkane Nov 21, 2008, 01:50 PM Version 2.4 (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=9116) is now up.
Scisless Nov 21, 2008, 04:43 PM Something's wrong with the new update here, I can't build any buildings what so ever, it's like they've been completely wiped out from the game. Even the building specific units can be created without them. I don't think I had a corrupt download or anything.
cfkane Nov 21, 2008, 09:26 PM Fixed it. Here's a link to the patch:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=11256
I'll put it in the first post as well.
ncwarrior Nov 22, 2008, 04:38 PM looks really nice
cfkane Dec 01, 2008, 02:17 AM So, I'm trying to work on an outline for the continuity of the world that this mod uses, and I thought I could use some pointers.
Here's the modified Civlopedia entry for America as an example:
The United States is young by Civilization standards, being barely more than 200 years old. The United States did not expand to reach its current borders until the middle of the 19th century, and did not become a true world power until the middle of the 20th century. America was the first European colony to separate successfully from its motherland, and it was among the first nations to be established on the premise that sovereignty rests with its citizens and not with the government.
Prior to the 1770s, the American colonists were loyal subjects of the British Empire, but a combination of taxes and ministerial mismanagement of the situation led to the outbreak of revolution in 1776. Led by a band of intelligent men collectively known as The Founding Fathers, America managed to win the fight for independence against all odds and lay the constitutional foundation for America's future growth. In its first century and a half, the country was mainly preoccupied with its own territorial exploration, internal development, and economic growth. American politics evolved from quasi-aristocratic beginnings to become increasingly democratic during the 1820s and '30s. But despite the nation's rapid acquisition of territory and dramatic population growth, the spectre of slavery continued to divide the country between North and South. The struggle between anti- and pro-slavery advocates eventually erupted in a bloody Civil War that lasted four years and consumed hundreds of thousands of lives. In the end, the Union was preserved and the power of the central federal government greatly strengthened compared to before the conflict.
Following the Civil War, the nation entered a period of unprecedented prosperity after the long conflict and reconstruction. In the ensuing two decades industrial production, the number of industrial workers, and the number of factories all more than doubled. European immigration, westward expansion, urban growth, technological advances, and a host of American inventions - including the telephone, typewriter, linotype, phonograph, electric light, cash register, air brake, refrigerator car, and the automobile - contributed to the American explosion, while widespread use of corporate organization offered new opportunities for large-scale financing of business enterprise and attracted new capital. But despite America's growth as one of the world's leading industrial powers, the nation still remained isolationist in outlook, paying little to no attention to the world outside its borders.
The Spanish-American War of 1898 marked the emergence of the United States onto the world's stage as a major power, but it was not until World War I that the country truly became invovled in world politics. Following the 1919 Versailles Peace Conference, the nation again turned its back on the rest of the world and enjoyed the prosperous decade known as the "Roaring Twenties". Unfortunately, this economic boom was not to last. Wall Street's stock market crashed in 1929 and kicked off the Great Depression of the 1930s. In the midst of constant bank failures and rampant unemployment, Franklin Roosevelt was elected president and set about to fix the country through his recovery plan called the "New Deal". The program was a mixed success economically, but helped restore hope and confidence to a people that were in serious need of both. Despite a coup by Charles Lindbergh, later revealed to be a Nazi agent, Roosevelt went on to lead the United States through the crucible of World War II, dying a few months before victory was won.
The Allied victory at the end of World War II left the United States as one of the world's two "superpowers" along with the Soviet Union. In only a few short years the two former allies had become opponents in the Cold War, a tense diplomatic standoff that would last for forty years. America would be the key player in the formation of the short-lived Oceania Pact, which would later evolve into NATO. Domestically, the nation enjoyed considerable prosperity in the 1950s, experienced a turbulent period of cultural and social change in the 1960s, and suffered through economic stagnation in the 1970s, with recovery taking place in the following decades. The Soviet Empire collapsed in 1991, but the nation faced new threats in the form of international terrorism.
A devastating attack on the Capitol building left the government decapitated, with the unelected Jack Ryan taking office. It was under Ryan that the United States waged a new war with Iranian radicals bent on becoming a superpower of the Middle East. With the US under martial law, Ryan defeated the rising empire and helped restore balanced to the fractured government. His successor, the erudite Jed Bartlet, enjoyed an era of relative calm until a new covert war with Qumar broke out. In this new War on Terrorism, the US employed highly trained Navy SEALS to combat this new menace. After Bartlet, the charismatic Matthew Santos made history by becoming the nations first Latino president. Santos ushered in a new wave of liberal reform, causing a huge conservative backlash. The Religious Right nominated the preacher Nehemiah Scudder to the presidency. Under Scudder, America as it had existed collapsed. A theocracy called the Republic of Gilead sprang from America's ruins and dictated American culture for several decades. During this time, the remnants of the nation faced not only a new World War, but also a global plague of infertility. Scudder's own plans for fertility harvesting, while callous and cruel, kept the American population afloat for the better part of the century. It wasn't until a backwoods engineer from Montana pulled together the greatest American invention, the warp drive, that America's prospects looked upwards once again. By expanding humanity's horizons, the American people helped unite the world under a new banner that not only brought a new era into humanity's history, but also sealed America's place in that history.
