View Full Version : Retire....
robboo Apr 20, 2008, 08:00 AM Since we started the discussion...lets get a UN reps to vote.
Retire or keep playing. I ask that only the elected UN rep vote for their team. Discussion is fine but lets keep the voting to only one member. 4 teams left, ties are decide how?
ALOHA VOTES RETIRE. ( we will follow the majority and not just quit)
Epsilon?
Piffle?
Innovia?
LEts get this decided so we can get the turns or get working on a new game.
General_W Apr 20, 2008, 11:02 AM From the turn tracker:
Aloha while we see the desire to play on and the "fairness" to continue for the teams that want to play, also want to retire. If the game will be continued, we will play but it really should end.
Thank you for this. :hatsoff:
This game can be played as a pitboss...put a 48 or 72 hour timer on it. [...] More power will be given to the turn player but as it is most of the turn players right now are following a outline of what to do or perhaps they are the only one playing.
I think this is an excellent point and a brilliant idea!
How hard would it be to convert this game into a Pitboss?
While I favor playing the next game as a BTS PBEM on a smaller map (for reasons I outlined before) - I agree that finishing this game out as a PitBoss makes a ton of sense.
Can we add "Switch to Pitboss" as an option to this poll?
peter grimes Apr 20, 2008, 01:44 PM I've tried to convert Hotseat to PBEM, and vice versa, a couple of times. It hasn't ever been completely successful. But I really don't know about these things, so maybe someone with more of a hacker attitude would know.
Theoden Apr 21, 2008, 03:30 PM Innovia votes to keep playing. We'd like to see the game finished quickly but in a proper way, eg. UN (see the turn tracker thread for the discussion of that).
robboo Apr 22, 2008, 05:55 AM So looks like a 2-2 tie. Hmm interesting, if or when Epsilon kills Innovia it will change. :)
peter grimes Apr 22, 2008, 10:23 AM So looks like a 2-2 tie.
Did Piffle vote yet
General_W Apr 22, 2008, 01:10 PM I'm pretty sure this isn't necessary, but Epsilon officially votes to continue
:)
Memphus Apr 23, 2008, 04:26 PM I think that the voting team gets the vote of those they conqure.
Loco votes to keep playing ;) that would make it 3-2.
j/k.
robboo Apr 23, 2008, 05:43 PM Did Piffle vote yet :confused:They started the retire talk...
/actually what I meant to say was at worse its 2-2
peter grimes Apr 24, 2008, 01:40 PM Is Piffle still OK with me joining their team? If so, I'm happy to jump through the necessary hoops with the admins and such :)
Just let me know.
Robi D May 12, 2008, 06:40 AM Just out of curiousity, who many turns does Epsilon estimate it will take to win given the current flow of the game.
Memphus May 12, 2008, 08:00 AM Ummmm that is a tough one. It all depends on what Happens i nthe next 10 turns. As mentioned Innovia will be done in ~10 turns, but what Piffle & Aloha do?!?!

Assuming piffle and/or aloha are not able to do anything to significantly slow your victory down. Not looking for an exact figure but a rough guide.
Memphus May 12, 2008, 09:48 AM 50 turns. Would be my best guess....?
General_W May 12, 2008, 04:52 PM And remember - turns could potentially go much faster once we're down to just 3 teams. :please:
Robi D May 13, 2008, 04:53 AM And remember - turns could potentially go much faster once we're down to just 3 teams. :please:
On past experience i would not count on it. At a turn every three days that 150 days.
The next part of my curiosity, is there a victory condition that can be reached quicker then the one your aiming for?
Memphus May 13, 2008, 08:09 AM Diplomatic if we build the UN and get voted for....
dutchfire May 13, 2008, 08:34 AM Diplomatic if we build the UN and get voted for....
... or get 60% of the vote yourself
Robi D May 14, 2008, 03:49 AM Diplomatic if we build the UN and get voted for....
And if we agreed to vote for you, would you go for it?
And i am being serious
Memphus May 14, 2008, 07:43 AM Well Our tech plan has a couple of stops but I don't see why we can't build the UN once we discover Mass Media :)
BCLG100 May 14, 2008, 08:17 AM Why is this game continuing if all teams except epsilon want to stop? its normal practice within a pbem game to concede so you don't have to continue playing for no reason.
peter grimes May 14, 2008, 10:41 AM If Innovia or Aloha wish to Retire, and nobody's willing to become a new turnplayer for them, it seems clear they should retire.
That's just my opinion, and doesn't represent the views of the PiffleNation.
Memphus May 14, 2008, 10:49 AM Innovia won't retire they will be crushed  8 turns and counting. Then they can join other teams :)
General_W May 15, 2008, 01:42 PM And if we agreed to vote for you, would you go for it?
And i am being serious
We'd want to be sure we had at least 40% of the vote ourselves before we risked this.
No personal offense intended, but I got clobbered by my friends once on this one. "suuuuure, we'll vote for you." :mischief:
I still consider myself the winner of that game... the lousy sneaks!
As for Aloha/Piffle/Innovia retiring, I think it's too bad if no one is left who enjoys a fight to the bitter end - but I totally understand. I'd probably prefer to see a retirement/surrender to dragging though another 150 days to what seems to be increasingly inevitable.

Haven't checked the game recently but given your success against Innovia and Loco i would be shocked if you were not way above 40.

Last time I checked, they were at ~55%, needing 60%.
Robi D May 16, 2008, 09:37 AM So if Aloha and/or Piffle voted for Epsilon as well then the game would be finished
Memphus May 16, 2008, 09:50 AM Or Epsilon builds the UN once Innovia is gone and we vote for ourself :)
Robi D May 16, 2008, 07:03 PM Or Epsilon builds the UN once Innovia is gone and we vote for ourself :)
That works for me too
robboo May 16, 2008, 07:31 PM Thats what woulds happen...however I will continue to press enter and make plans for your upcoming attack. I am not completely willing to give in till i see a UN vote.
In other words...i will fight till you guys build it.
Memphus May 16, 2008, 08:06 PM Upcomming Attack? is someone planning for a war? Peace Loving Epsilon is simply riding the world of Innovia, the true war-mongers that started the blodshed with Loco. Our converted Friends from Locopotmia asked that we simply take care of what they couldn't.
As for Aloha and Piffle there is no bad blood at all and Epsilon would like to play in peace :)
General_W May 17, 2008, 01:02 AM In other words...i will fight till you guys build it.
Alright! :ar15: I like that!
To the Death! (or to the UN... ?)
peter grimes May 17, 2008, 02:40 PM  A fight till the UN! That's almost realistic!
robboo May 17, 2008, 07:03 PM Alright! :ar15: I like that!
To the Death! (or to the UN... ?)
IF you guys attack..then I will fight till the end or until I can vote you winners in the UN.
BUT since supposedly your peaceful, all I have to do is vote for you. If you really want to rid the world of warmongers.. Piffle attacked peaceful Aloha also. Just let us know how we can help.
peter grimes Jun 17, 2008, 04:00 PM I've contacted Twistlok about taking over for me as Piffle turnplayer. He said he's willing. As long as there are no strong objections from any of the other teams, he will probably be playing Piffle's next turn - 1745AD.
General_W Jun 17, 2008, 05:03 PM No objection from Epsilon.
(or... at least not from me :) )
Memphus Jun 17, 2008, 07:39 PM wehoo! :)
the game moves
robboo Jun 17, 2008, 10:49 PM fone with me.. just getting a little confusing as to who's on who's team now. :)
Just make sure he knows you are gifting me 1003gpt and all your units to defend against the evil aggressors of Epsilon and The Leader( may he rot in ...). Oh yeah... I am not supposed to be upset by an unprovoked attack on peaceful ships that were out studying whales and deep ocean life.

Killing whales for scientific research... i'm dissappointed in you robboo :p
peter grimes Jun 20, 2008, 09:53 AM Twistlok was able to open an old Piffle save yesterday. He will be Piffle's turnplayer for the foreseeable future. :)
General_W Jun 20, 2008, 11:06 AM nice. Thanks Peter and Twistlok! :hatsoff:
Capsavian Jul 08, 2008, 05:27 PM I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I'm going to anyway. :crazyeye:
We've just wrapped up a 10-month-long epic Pitboss game with an emphasis on roleplaying, and I'm in the process of setting up a new one. We'll probably have as many as 28 nations in this one, and we have a dedicated forum.
I suspect that Chaos and Civility II might appeal to some of you. :) I'd enthusiastically welcome you to check us out at www.ChaosCiv.com and sign up if you would like to join us (register an account in the forums and post in the pre-setup thread: http://www.chaosciv.com/index.php/topic,251.0.html )
That is, if this game of yours is starting to wind down. Or even if it isn't, for that matter. :)
Would love to see quality RPers such as you folks joining us.
</ end thread hijack>
