View Full Version : Vista problems with HoF submissions

Having recently bought a new laptop (running Vista) I've been trying to submit HoF entries for about a week now. Seems that the 'lock modified assets' info is getting corrupted, or something like that.

I gather that I'm by no means the first to have these problems but I've now tried all the stuff mentioned in the HoF itself under 'Vista Fixes', including the last bit which happens with Vista SP1 (even though I haven't installed SP1 yet).

All to no avail unfortunately, despite the HoF guys providing suggestions as to what might fix the problem.

In any case, I had more or less decided to give up for now and try again in a few releases time when I noticed something a bit odd - when I do the 1st fix [unsetting read-only on Firaxis games directory], the machine whirrs away for 3 or 4 minutes then comes back 'done'. But if I exit from Explorer then go back in again, the read-only checkbox has gone back to 'greyed' (or rather a blue blob) instead of being unset (blank).

My question is - is the above behaviour normal / expected or is there something I'm still doing wrong.

Thanks in advance to anyone who manages to read to the end of this, let alone offer any suggestions :)

have you set Civ to run require admin permission to run?
this fixed the problem for me

this is described in more detail in one of the threads on the subject but its an option under the properties of the game .exe file

I've been getting this problem lately - I thought it was from using a No-CD crack, but obviously not.

Yes I did that with all 3 .exe's (Vanilla, Warlords & BTS). However when I was double-checking just now, I noticed a further option 'Show settings for all users', where you can set 'Run this program as an administrator' again (but for all users this time). That setting wasn't ticked when I double-checked just now, but I have ticked it & I'll shortly send another test game and cross my fingers. If that one is corrupt I'll just have to give up on HoF for the immediate future

Please don't discuss cracks here. It isn't allowed for any reason.

I suggest saving time by submitting test games that use duel size marathon conquest games. Most of these games can be completed in approx. two minutes.

Excellent. Now I just need to find another excuse for not submitting my lousy Gauntlet efforts :D
