Hey, I was trying to load Virus monster's 500k save's, and I got this message:

" The save file is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not changed "

It says the above, than goes on to say:

" Load failed "

Before exiting quickly to my desktop.

Any Ideas? I'm running windows vista on x64 with SP 1 installed. I've tried running the .exes as administrator, I have tried setting all the options to read me, too.

The only thing I have changed In my Civ 4 folder was a lame attempt to change the roman's color - It didn't work and I'm pretty sure I changed the color settings back correctly.

I have BTS patched to the latest patch with the unofficial patch installed, and of course, the latest version of the HOF mod.

At least Denniz knows what he's talking about, so let me just delete my own stupid suggestion ;)

You need to rename your old CVGameCoreDLL.dll (under Assets where you installed Civ4), and move the new CVGameCoreDLL.dll file that you got with your HOF mod install into the Civ4 Assets directory.:cringe: Uh, you don't need to move anything in the HOF Mod from where it is to the Civ4 assets folder.

The thing with the DLL is related to the BTS 3.13 patch. It changed the DLL in Vanilla and Warlords. It also changed some XML files in Warlords.
So someone who didn't have BTS would have different asset than someone who did.

I don't which version VM's game is but you might need to revert your Vanilla or Warlords to the base patch from before the BTS 3.13 changes. You could try deleting the DLL and reinstalling the correct patch. I am not sure that will work with Warlords, though. (Don't forget to put things back before play a BTS game. ;) )

Beyond that to open a Warlords or BTS savegame file you have to be on the exact same patch release with the exact same HOF Mod version. Vanilla is a little more forgiving. Dual install is probably the best way to go if you are going to be opening a lot of old saves.

I have this problem, as well, when trying to look at 1.74 saves. Is there someplace that we can download the appropriate .dll?

Actually what would be even better is if you could strip off the LMA option while you are parsing the uploaded saves. That way we could look at prior versions without having to fool with dual installs and such.

The best place to get it is the patch. You can find it in your "My Documents\My Games\<civ4 version folder>\Patches".:nope: The patch got loaded when I installed BTS, thus nothing in that folder. Besides, I really don't like the idea of re-patching, especially just to look at someone else's save. I'd be afraid that it might mess up something on an otherwise working installation. The ol'e "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" kind of thing.

I might have a look at the BTS CD, though, to see if I can find the .dll on it. But, it will probably be buried in some CAB file that I can't access. :undecide:
