Wodan Jun 25, 2010, 05:53 AM I think there's an error in CIV4UnitInfos.xml. For all the Corp executive units, the lines:
<PrereqBuilding>BUILDING_CORPORATION_4</PrereqBuilding>
should be removed.
homersheineken Jun 25, 2010, 08:14 AM homersheineken: have you noticed the little arrows on the top right corner of the options screen?
I have and have gone all the way to the right (there's maybe 5-6 more tabs). Which one should it be?
Also, When the game loads, I do get quite a few errors (couldn't load/create xxxx.ini).
maykay Jun 25, 2010, 10:01 AM oh, that might be it, i don't get those errors. this is the tab:

Wow, someone is a moron and not paying attention. I don't wanna name names though :mischief: :D
Thx!!
Although I still don't like the fact I get a bunch of errors upon start up about not being able to create xxxxx.ini files.
viator Jun 25, 2010, 11:12 AM Although I still don't like the fact I get a bunch of errors upon start up about not being able to create xxxxx.ini files.
Looks very much like simular problems I had, especially that xxx.ini misery :crazyeye:, and were so easily solved by a tip Afforess gave me:
Viator, run the game as administrator, that should fix your problem. ;)
Hope it helps you too! :)

ewu.7waker Jun 28, 2010, 12:31 PM Hello, not quite sure where to post this however, RoM seems to crash on my computer when i click "single player" on the start menu, it also takes forever to load, any suggestions?
Dancing Hoskuld Jun 28, 2010, 04:04 PM Hello, not quite sure where to post this however, RoM seems to crash on my computer when i click "single player" on the start menu, it also takes forever to load, any suggestions?
RoM can be very slow to load, sometimes I can troll a few pages of CiVFanatics between starting RoM and the BTS splash turns up, which gives me a few more pages before the main menu appears. :( It does not happen that way always just enough for me to sometimes forget that I have started it. Defragmenting my hard disk did not help.
Have you managed to get into RoM at all? Which version of RoM are you using and do you have any of the mods for RoM installed? I ask because some people are not using the latest for various valid reasons and knowing may help us figure out the problem.
B7ast.M3 Jul 01, 2010, 04:03 PM Hi Guys,
I didnīt play Civ for about a year, but I have a searious bug while playing RoM2. I think, i got it before but fixed it somewho, but cant remember it.
In the diplomatic-windows I canīt see or click any text.
Does someone remember how to fix it?
Thank you.
ewu.7waker Jul 02, 2010, 12:00 PM Not quite sure, but it was the full 900 or so MB version complete with the extra civs, i'll try to download the latest version without anything extra for now and see how it goes
Edit: It's version 2.8 sorry:P So i'm going to get the most up to date version of RoM, will the version 2.8 civ pack add on work with 2.91?
Arakhor Jul 02, 2010, 12:49 PM 2.92 is the latest version and, no, I doubt it.
Alex3426 Jul 04, 2010, 08:04 AM The torrent download doesn't work for me and I cant be bothered with using rapidshare. So I guess there's no way for me to get 2,92 unless someone could send me the torrent tracker.
Otaku-sama Jul 04, 2010, 08:10 PM I have an nooby installation question. I unzipped the contents of the zip folder into my mods folder, but when I load the mod, it just crashes Civ. Any help?
The Turk Jul 04, 2010, 08:32 PM I was playing a hotseat game, 2 players, RoM Earth 2, No revolutions and every single time the game would crash, starting with the picture shown below, and they would have the same problem for all the Leader Heads, and then when the game started it was really weird, I founded 2 religions straight on the start of the game (an obvious error). Can someone pleaese tell me what I'm doing wrong, because the game works fine on single player, I really don't know why its so buggy for Hotseat; also I tried different maps, but to the same avail, the same thing just continued to happen.
Edit: I was wondering if maybe its an installation error? I unzipped 2.92 to my Mods folder, but do I need 2.9 and 2.91 to run it properly?
Canabrava Jul 06, 2010, 11:17 AM A have a suggestion.
I playerd overlord mod and some great people can provides resourses. I liked so much.
I like play between 12 - 23 civilization standart/huge maps. It's boring see a few civs with resourses and a lot of others without. Sometimes is so easy conquer when AI dont have iron or oil. Its so many civs to few recurses.
Would be nice if great people could give iron, sulphur, horses. The game could be more balanced.
Alex3426 Jul 07, 2010, 11:03 AM Thanks for no reply on my request for help guys.
Wodan Jul 07, 2010, 11:25 AM I get a lot of CTDs early game when Revolutions are kicking in. Later, after I get civics that pretty much eliminate Revs, the CTDs stop.
riddleofsteel Jul 07, 2010, 12:26 PM Thanks for no reply on my request for help guys.
If I knew how to 'give' you a tracker, I might have been able to help. I imagine that might be why others didn't reply either. No reason to be sarcastic.
Dancing Hoskuld Jul 07, 2010, 04:40 PM I have an nooby installation question. I unzipped the contents of the zip folder into my mods folder, but when I load the mod, it just crashes Civ. Any help?
Not really enough information for me to answer your question. Have you had a look at the Rise of Mankind FAQ (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=338931)? It may help.

At first glance, it looks like there was something wrong or corrupt in the download. Hence the XML error. You may need to download the whole thing again. You only need version 2.92.
The double religion founding is a known problem if you use limited religions or choose religions or both. I believe one or both is the default option. Go to the BUG options and turn them off. A fix is being worked on.
The Turk Jul 08, 2010, 05:53 AM Ok! So I decided to reinstall the entire mod, this is what I did:
1. I deleted the ENTIRE RoM folder from my Mods folder
2. I tried to install the RoM again through the torrent file, but it needs uTorrent, and I only have Vuze, and for some reason it does nothing whenever I click on it, so I found an alternate installer from rapidshare
3. I install all 3 parts (it came in 3 separate parts)
4. I unzip them and put them together -- BUT, as they are unzipping I get this error sign (shown in picture), but I continue, this error sign pops up for all 3 of them, when I am unzipping
5. I place the RoM folder inside my Mods folder, and startup the game.
6. The game begins to load, but then several error messages pop up, and before I know it, the game crashes (CTD)
Can someone PLEASE tell me what the HECK is going on! I have always loved RoM because it gave so much in one mod, and it was easy to install, now it seems that all its files have gone against it, and it keeps corrupting itself, this is very un-RoM, since the installation process has always been easy to use, ever since v.2.92 started up though, I have had problems.
So can someone please tell me how to fix this, I think it might have to do with the installer, if someone could please tell me how to install the file in one go (in a torrent, I have Vuze) I think I will avoid most of the trouble.
Thank You:)
HappyHenchman Jul 10, 2010, 01:49 AM seems your torrent for 2.92 is down :p
The Turk Jul 10, 2010, 02:38 AM seems your torrent for 2.92 is down :p
ya probably, can someone please "reload" the torrent for v2.92, thanks!:)
Wodan Jul 10, 2010, 09:52 AM When is someone going to post a non-torrent??
frenzy5 Jul 10, 2010, 12:32 PM Has anyone installed this mod while using BtS with Steam? I've used WinRAR to extract the download to C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization iv beyond the sword\Beyond the Sword\Mods....anyone know if that's the correct way to do this? RoM2 doesn't appear in the list of mods when I play the game. Thanks in advance to anyone with an answer.
zappara Jul 11, 2010, 01:05 AM seems your torrent for 2.92 is down :pAccording to my torrent client, there's currently at least 98 seeders (full copies) available and the file is on tracker as it should be so don't know why you can't download it.
Edit: It's been hot weather here past couple weeks and I haven't done any modding during this time as I've been too tired after work to concentrate on RoM modding and I'm not doing much of lurking on these forums either. On next friday my vacation starts and if new RevDCM is available then (I hope) I can merge it to RoM in order to fix the issues found from v2.92. This is also the reason why I'm not setting up additional download locations for v2.92.
About the Mega civ pack - I'll probably update it for v3.0 and not for v2.9x series because it's just extra work load to update it each time the schema files get changed or when units/buildings get changed and there's been quite a few changes since v2.8 and I know there will be more changes before we reach v3.0. So I'm keeping mega civ pack on hold for now - meanwhile you can use other RoM modders' civ modules, like the Clash of Civilization modules.
The Turk Jul 11, 2010, 06:46 AM @Zappara
That sounds great, as long as you can put up a new download site as soon as possible, that would be great! Thanks! :goodjob:
Btw, where can we find out more info on RoM v.3.0? Like features and release date and the such?:)
Lzz Jul 15, 2010, 01:20 AM Hmms, I have an odd problem. About 1000 turns into the game city names and signs for religions present and production and defense and everything else disappeared completely from the map. Is this a bug problem? And does anyone happen to know how to fix it? :)
Thanks

Wodan Jul 21, 2010, 03:22 AM Can't build Bakery if you have a Modern Granary (but not a Granary).
Shouldn't spies upgrade to agents?
gepa Jul 22, 2010, 04:18 AM thanks alot
so i try this afternoon to download it and to install
i was enjoying the previous version 2.91
for a week now
The Turk Jul 22, 2010, 07:52 AM Quick Questions:
Its already been a few weeks since I last posted here, isen't the new Revolution DCM patch released yet? Or if its not released, can someone please upload another installer for v2.92, and I tried the one that was recently posted, but it requires megaupload, and according to megaupload, there service does not reach to Turkey (screw that:mad:)
So can someone please reupload a new torrent even, because I use vuze, not utorrent.
gepa Jul 23, 2010, 01:14 AM thanks
i've download it and install yesterday
fantastic better than v2.91 i was used
much more fun
keep the good job
zeusbenedict Jul 25, 2010, 07:58 PM Anyone have a torrent file of 2.92? The magnet doesn't work on my client.
Supercheese Jul 25, 2010, 09:24 PM Anyone have a torrent file of 2.92? The magnet doesn't work on my client.

zeusbenedict Jul 25, 2010, 09:32 PM It's just 2.9 and not 2.92...
Supercheese Jul 25, 2010, 09:38 PM It's just 2.9 and not 2.92...
Ah, then it appears the download link for 2.92 is via Megaupload, not torrent. See: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=9391605&postcount=7
The Turk Jul 25, 2010, 10:57 PM It's just 2.9 and not 2.92...
Well I need an alternative download FOR RoM 2.92, and I'm usually fine with any torrent but, I use Vuze, so for some reason the download is not working. Also I cannot use megaupload, because it doesn't work in my area. So can someone PLEASE put up another download site so I can download this patch.
Thank You
PS. When will the patch for Revolution DCM (or whatever its called) be finished?
Kroyon Jul 26, 2010, 12:26 AM Just get Utorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/complete?os=win) it works well with magnet and I've been using it for ages without problems.
The Turk Jul 26, 2010, 03:18 AM Just get Utorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/complete?os=win) it works well with magnet and I've been using it for ages without problems.
Well I already have Vuze, which works much better (I used to have Utorrent), so could someone please just upload another alternative file, I mean really! Also why is it that I can't download it as a uTorrent file, and then use Vuze to torrent it?
Afforess Jul 26, 2010, 10:21 AM Well I already have Vuze, which works much better
If it can't grab a simple magnet link, then you have a strange idea about the word "Better" ;)
fish123456789 Jul 26, 2010, 02:41 PM newb question how do you stack attack?
The Turk Jul 26, 2010, 06:03 PM If it can't grab a simple magnet link, then you have a strange idea about the word "Better" ;)
Well to tell you the truth it use to work, in the sense that I could download a utorrent file and have it torrented on Vuze, but I tried downloading the torrent with Opera and Google Chrome and every time I clicked download, NOTHING would happen!
So for the love of God, can someone please give me an alternative download site, from quite literally ANY other source!
Supercheese Jul 27, 2010, 03:32 PM Well to tell you the truth it use to work, in the sense that I could download a utorrent file and have it torrented on Vuze, but I tried downloading the torrent with Opera and Google Chrome and every time I clicked download, NOTHING would happen!

That should work for ya.
Wasp20126 Jul 27, 2010, 06:57 PM I am wanting to merge Civ Gold with ROM 2.91. I really want the native american tribes that it contains in Gold in ROM. How would I go about doing that. I am going to try to copy the civs and leaderheads over to the ROM files and see if that works but any input would be wonderful.
The Turk Jul 27, 2010, 08:50 PM Here: http://www.zshare.net/download/787426584633b030/

THANK YOU! When I get home, I'll test it out, and see if it works!
Mr_Smith Jul 28, 2010, 03:25 AM Im using BtS 3.19 and RoM 2.92 and every time i switch to caste game crashes.
Any help?
The Turk Jul 28, 2010, 11:41 AM THANK YOU! When I get home, I'll test it out, and see if it works!
Wow, ok so I get home, I delete any remaining traces of my old RoM files, I then download the zip file, that was provided to me through Supercheese (thanks a ton for the effort nonetheless) , I then unzipped it and this error message pops up, just as its about to finish (shown below). Can someone please explain why this unzipping process is not working? I mean I can unzipp everything else with a certain ease, but for some reason when it comes to this, it just NEVER works!
@Mr_Smith
Did you get the same error message when you unzipped this mod?
@All
The thing is, is that, the game can still load, but then a whole bunch of error messages pop up, and then the game CTD's. So can someone PLEASE tell me HOW I am doing this wrong?
Thank You :D
Dancing Hoskuld Jul 28, 2010, 03:10 PM It means that the file that you recieved when downloading is corrupted in some way. You will need to try and download it again.
Bataknese Jul 29, 2010, 08:56 PM same here...
download failed twice :(
just got 40++MB
FRaGGaNOiA Jul 30, 2010, 11:42 AM hi
i have to admit i love this mod, really do and i like the changes u made...well ...mostly.
What i dont understand is, why u made the civics system so damn complicated and...why are there so many civics u just cant use. they are uterly useless. Like vassalage. U use it and your civ pretty much dies cause of unhappiness. The benefits of vassalage never ever pay off for the huuuuge impact it has on your cities.
Id keep all those civics way way less complex. U cant tell if a civic now helps you or not...its just to freakin complicated and...if u just try it out in a running game it can completly ruin your game. It just happend in mine...i have been doing great...just wanted a lil experience boost for my new units...well...vassalge should be great...bad idea...after that. I was practically dead. Unhappyness everywhere, cities starving, no production nothing...game dead. 1 Click...whole game :):):):)ed.
I really think you should overthink this system....cause its ruining the rest which ist just great.
braydog92 Jul 31, 2010, 11:53 AM I'm  right now. I can't for the life of me figure out how to download this mod. I want to play it so bad. I've tried multiple mirrors. I've tried unzipping it and extracting it with WinRar and 7-zip. McAfee says that all the sites to get torrent are loopholes and not safe. I need help.:wallbash::aargh::badcomp:
Afforess Jul 31, 2010, 12:05 PM I'm  right now. I can't for the life of me figure out how to download this mod. I want to play it so bad. I've tried multiple mirrors. Ignore McAfee, that program is a total waste of money anyway. Get Utorrent, it's free. Grab the magnet link, open it with Utorrent. Download. It's not that hard. Seriously.
The Turk Jul 31, 2010, 12:11 PM If its not "so hard", then why every SINGLE time, I redownload the zip file, and unzip it, there is ALWAYS an error, which I have to contend with. Just look at the photo in my last post, thats happened every single time! So there is obviously something wrong with this mod and the download sites.
Afforess Jul 31, 2010, 12:14 PM Your download (or the site you are downloading from) has the download corrupted. Use the torrent. It just works. (TM)
braydog92 Jul 31, 2010, 12:31 PM Do I need to run an installation, or just download, extract and play?
Argroww Jul 31, 2010, 02:35 PM Okay, another one from me.....
On average how often should a resource run out, in 2 of my games I found some marble, built a quarry and the turn after it was built the marble depleted. started a new game (as the previous one killed my laptop) this time I found some stone, built a quarry, it lasted longer than 1 turn, but still dpeleted pretty quickly considering that I'm playing on snail speed.
This a bug?
Argroww Jul 31, 2010, 02:37 PM Oh and too add to that, I used the world builder to put the stone back, 4 turns later it depleted again....surely this is too quick, especially if I only have 3 cities and am not building anything that relies upon stone?
seamus75 Jul 31, 2010, 11:04 PM @Turk, if memory serves you said you use Vuze, as do I. When I successfully downloaded and installed the mod it asked what program I wanted to use to open the link and I selected azures from the "choose" box directory. It worked fine for me, and I hope it works for you as well. If you've done this already -- sorry for wasting your time, if not, try it -- you may like the results.

helgish Jul 31, 2010, 11:47 PM I have 2.91 patched, I think, with 1.74. Do I really need 2.92? How big of a difference is there? Is it worth it? I'm asking opinions of course.

Thanks Seamus75, and yes I have downloaded uTorrent files through Vuze in the past as well. The problem is (and I've uesd Google Chrome AND Opera), is that whenever I click on the Rise of Mankind 2.92 Torrent (on the first page of this thread), it opens up a blank, untitled page, and nothing happens! Its so strange!
Ven0m Aug 01, 2010, 01:52 AM Hi guys
I recently installed RoM mod, and it's been working fine except for Ranged Bombardment. The icon is there, but it does nothing at all - I click it, get description displayed (both Bombard and Ranged Bombardment have hotkeys set to B), click the target and then nothing happens - it acts in 100% the same way as if I canceled the action.
I couldn't find any useful info about this problem. I also tried changing DCM_RANGE_BOMBARD in XML file, but then after loading the save game it's still the same - it refuses to work. Please, help.

I think this is one of those problems which crept in with the version of RevDCM that RoM uses. Along with the Choose/Limited religion problem. When a newer version gets merged into RoM I would expect these problems to go.
Xerion404 Aug 01, 2010, 10:14 AM For those having download problems: I was having the same problem (I think) using uTorrent. It would take the magnet link then never actually get any peers to download the actual .torrent file. The cause was having DHT disabled completely.
Since uTorrent allows you to enable DHT and then only allow it per torrent and not automatically for all torrents that are added, I enabled it and then it downloaded fine. (Except for not asking me where to put the downloaded files)
The Turk Aug 01, 2010, 10:52 AM wait wait wait....
So how do you get uTorrent to install RoM via Vuze and other applications?
tranx Aug 01, 2010, 05:01 PM First of all thank you for the Rise of Mankind mod. I downloaded it a few days ago and I was struck with awe. It is absolutely gorgeous. I love it. It enhances the Civilization experience in ways never reached before. It's so great. It is complex, complete, completely addictive :) Now I'm not so impatient to see Civilization V on shelves. I've got, oh, plenty other tasks to achieve :D
Two questions I need to ask :
* Is there a RoM launch shortcut to put on my desktop so as not to have to launch BtS every time I want to play ? I feel like I will never play BtS anymore, btw.
* When I tick options in the Debug screen it doesn't save my choices (I want spy missions and jet fighters' and the holy city relocation options). I mean it keeps the options saved during each session but every time I reload they're gone and I have to tick them again.
Other than that, sometimes the game will crash or freeze but once you took the habit of saving every few turns it really is a minor nuisance. Also something weird: loading a game will make the game crash (memory allocation failure) once every two times exactly! Anyway all of that does not alter the greatness of the game. It is absolutely joyful. I can't praise it enough, it is so awesome, it is what I always wanted my civ games to be: challenging, sometimes frustrating (damn you instability!) but always sooooo enjoyable. I can't wait to reach futuristic eras.
Is there a 3.0 version coming up? Do you recommend the RoM: A New Dawn add-on?
trevort Aug 01, 2010, 05:18 PM * Is there a RoM launch shortcut to put on my desktop so as not to have to launch BtS every time I want to play ? I feel like I will never play BtS anymore, btw.
I put a shortcut on my desktop to the saves folder. The path to the saves file looks like this on my puter "C:\Users\myname\Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Saves\single" When the shortcut opens I just double click the latest save game in "single". RoM launches with your game ready to play. Also, if you experience a MAF  and have forgotten to save in a while , you can also access the auto-saves. Hope this helps.
A New Dawn (AND) is awesome. Get it.
Dancing Hoskuld Aug 01, 2010, 05:28 PM * When I tick options in the Debug screen it doesn't save my choices (I want spy missions and jet fighters' and the holy city relocation options). I mean it keeps the options saved during each session but every time I reload they're gone and I have to tick them again.
Save twice and then load the game. Don't know why this works but it does make the options stick.
Is there a 3.0 version coming up? Do you recommend the RoM: A New Dawn add-on?
RoM 2.95 (or 2.93) is due soonish with 3.0 a bit later. Or at least that is what I read on the forums see post (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=9434441&postcount=138).
tranx Aug 01, 2010, 05:44 PM Sweet. Thanks to both of you for your swift replies. I'll try what you say. Also I'm definitely getting AND.
Thanks!
dguichar Aug 03, 2010, 11:26 AM I believe is a known issue, that should've be supposedly solved by deactivating Limited religions and Choose religions on DCM screen.
But i double checked that both boxed are deactivated, i'm still getting 2 religions for 1 tech.
That's for something that could be a bug, but i've been thinking on a little addition. Currently builiding a mine gives a small chance of getting a valuable: copper, iron, lead, gold, silver... even uranium. Each hill is an oportunity, so i wonder if something similar can be done with flood plains.
Flood plains can be irrigated for a small chance of getting food. Why not allowing also to build a quarry and a small chance of getting stone, marble or obsidian.
I also guess as marble and obsidian are just types of stone; the original stone can be divides in other types: limestone, granite, soapstone, alabaster and sandstone. Same variety as with metals.
FRaGGaNOiA Aug 07, 2010, 11:04 AM i guess i just found a bug in MP Settings
If u activate the options "no techtrading" and "no techdiffusion" the game just ignores it in MP. Its fine in SP but in MP its ignoring it and its always on...
i dunno actually why but its a bit ridiculous if ya wanna play without TT...
CreepyD Aug 08, 2010, 08:25 AM Hm I'm stuck in my game!
I've got to 20AD and when I click next turn, it plays through the AI's and then just sits there doing nothing with the globe as a cursor.
I can't play on, but can still click some menu's and stuff. Nothing seems to make it continue.
I reloaded 3 times now, and did things differently, but it does the same every time.
I don't know if it's the mod or just civ in general that's at fault here.
I'm using 2.92 on 3.19.
Would anyone mind trying my savegame (below)? If it does work, maybe you could save it on the next turn and send me it?
Was really enjoying this game =(

sburger Aug 10, 2010, 07:17 PM Noticable tech problem:
As posted before, an amazing mod that I've been playing since the origins. Recently, in a few games on 2.92 with AND I've notice irregularities with AI's research ability. They seem to acquire techs out of thin air (not diffusion of old useless ones). In previous versions of ROM and AND I was able to lead quite easily in noble or Monarch, but now struggling to get a lead in Noble !! Can't find any reference to this in version notes or forums. :(
In my current game I've reached the Industrial tech or a bit further stage and am being out teched by the leading AI and his vassals. Fare enough, so I sent spies around to check his territory. I rarely came across a village or town. Almost every AI city is mines, farms, and industrial plants. Even it's capital city is half the tech output as my capital. How can I possibly be out teched when the AI is generating no revenue (so not reasearch). I've attached the latest save, so if anyone can help explain this I'd be grateful.
Cheers

I promise that the AI isn't cheating and getting free techs. You can confirm this yourself. Turn on cheatcodes, then use CONTROL-ALT-L to change to other civs.
sburger Aug 11, 2010, 12:00 AM Thanks for the reply Afforess :)
It's not that I think the AI is cheating (it's a computer haha) I was just wondering if certain features in ROM or AND cause the AI to get advantages in tech research based on well I'm doing. I just can't see how it can generate enough research based on their terrain improvements.
CreepyD Aug 11, 2010, 01:48 AM Could that AI be using things like Feudal and another one, you can get farms to give you a lot of extra food and gold. You also get huge populations and loads of specialists this way.
An AI in my game actually WON (wow I've never seen an AI win) by having farms everywhere around every city. He was out teching me, and won a conquer victory, I just couldn't stop him.

ctrl-alt-z ;)
Afforess Aug 11, 2010, 03:02 AM ctrl-alt-z ;)
Ah, that one. I forget, since I have my keyboard basically memorized.
Graiskye Aug 11, 2010, 05:34 PM Okay I am trying to get A New Dawn to work, but I cannot get 2.92 ROM ? It will not work with 2.91.
The only download link that works is 2.91, and I use torrents all the time, but I cannot get nothing from this link.
Cant you just host it on IsoHunt or something simple, all the other versions are there except for 2.92 ?
Is there a patch from 2.91 to 2.92 ?
Thanks for your time.
-G.
EDIT : found a regular link for the 2.92 download. Man there are so many different pages with links to other pages that have links to the downloads, I just used it and am currently downloading it, so we'll see how it goes.
I noticed that my first 'installation' was bogus as I must not have extracted the data from the rar properly as there was a bunch missing from the mods folder, I think when I get 92 it'll go a bit smoother.
CBG68 Aug 11, 2010, 06:10 PM Anyone online that can help me!!!
I have spent 2 1/2 hours downloading 2.92 and it says "Windows cannot open this file" when I click on it to try and move it to the Mod folder?????
The Turk Aug 11, 2010, 11:36 PM ctrl-alt-z ;)
Isn't it Ctrl-Z to reveal the map?
Kroyon Aug 12, 2010, 04:51 AM Isn't it Ctrl-Z to reveal the map?
Is it? :mischief:
The Turk Aug 12, 2010, 11:48 AM lol, perhaps your right as well, but all I'm saying is that when I'm modding, to reveal the map and get the ability to look into cities, I use Ctrl-Z, of course that requires you have Chipotle turned on. You do have that on right?
Morphem01 Aug 12, 2010, 12:44 PM Is there a patch from 2.91 to 2.92 ?
Same problem as many here : No seeders found with the torrent (tested with Bitcomet)
Anti-christ Aug 13, 2010, 09:40 AM Fantastic mod! I am completely enthralled with the mod except for one niggling factor. The warlords that can be created are angering me greatly. I currently have one in MY city raiding my workers!!!! How the hell does that work? If anyone knows how I can disable that particular unit I would be forever in your debt!
Shylock76 Aug 14, 2010, 03:38 PM Well downloaded this yesterday and have to say its very enjoyable though the the first game CTD, i assume because i tried the gigantic map script.
The second game i got as far as 1215 ad and the game says 'waiting for other civs' and although ive ended the turn the turn itself doesnt seem to finish....any ideas?
Webrider Aug 15, 2010, 06:32 AM Anyway to get the full latest version without going torrent?
DigitalD_ Aug 15, 2010, 08:02 AM Saved Game v2.91 not loadable in v 2.92?
i updated, cause in 2.91 i cant play on - the turn will never end (waiting for other civs)
no crash, no failure - tried it many times, allways endless
i hoped that were fixed with 2.92, but now i cant load my savegames
windows just raise appcrash when i try to load the savegame
loading the mod works without open the savegame
seems to be the same error that Shylock76 has too
loading times are much too heavy.. and i got an up2date system
Anyway to get the full latest version without going torrent?
why ?? just use ĩtorrent! download fullspeed 4 free
i got a lot of error messages in game of the dynamic civnames (bound method), perhaps that causes the error
edit:
i still can open the options and change the research menu, when i click "retire" the game seems to go ahead, but when i click one more turn, the game says wait for other civs... strange
i played for about 4 weeks each evening for a lot of hours... i would be happy if i could end that game
CreepyD Aug 15, 2010, 10:42 AM Seems like the endless waiting after a turn is common, that's 2-3 other people other than myself now.
I hope there is a fix soon.
rightfuture Aug 15, 2010, 10:24 PM same here, further into a game
Shylock76 Aug 16, 2010, 04:34 AM Tried a second game, got to 1535 AD but got the 'waiting civs' message and it doesnt end turn. Its a pity because i'm enjoying the expanded tech tree and options and its thoroughly enjoyable.
Anyone found a fix for this yet?? Looks like im not the only one experiencing it

If you install the mod pack A New Dawn for Rise of Mankind the error will go away (I am told) but it is not save game compatible. You can just have those bits of AND you want. Most are controlled by the "Custom Game' screen or in game using the BUG options screen RoM tab. BTW, I am using basic AND and have not had the problem. However absence of the problem is not proof the problem has gone away.:mischief:
Part of the problem is that the BtS engine does not like non-worker units being able to build stuff, eg elephant units being able to build roads. This is strange since elephant units have always been able to build roads in RoM:confused:
Shylock76 Aug 16, 2010, 03:49 PM Ahead of you here Dancing Hoskuld, downloaded A New Dawn this evening and now the mod crashes when loading :( Looks like i may need to reinstall 2.92 again...:(
krunsh Aug 16, 2010, 11:54 PM Some people told me to try the Rise of man Mod to have a longer and mroe balanced ancient era. Did they meant Rise of mankind? I can`t find any Rise of man mod and the description for this one don't realy say anything about ancient era.
thanks.
EDIT: Tried to download it anyway, but the link for the last version doesn`t work.
Mebber Aug 17, 2010, 06:18 AM Great mod, i'm really overwhelmed by all of it's options. By the way, is there a chance to deactivate the new realistic Civ-Flags? I don't like them very much... I made a scenario and changed the civ flags to their Bts counterpart by editing the worldbuilder-file, worked, but now all flags are white and the symbols drawn on the flags are yellow and barely recognizable. :dunno:
Edit1: Ok, figured it out, i've just overseen there's a option in the save file called "white flags" and it was active. :mischief:
Krogan Aug 18, 2010, 08:23 AM Love the mod but having a major problem and its really getting annoying since I can't figure out what is wrong and can't find anything about it anywhere.
Seems my 8 first cities all decided to stop using tiles, which of course means they are slowly dying and not really producing anything. I can't manually make them use the tiles or anything like that and I can see no difference between those cities and my other 10 cities that still work properly. I have other cities that are bigger etc and the only thing that these 8 seem to have in common is that they are the happiest of my cities.
Btw this has never happened to me in normal Civ4.

federico91 Aug 20, 2010, 03:15 AM hi all,
I'm italian and I tried this mod.. what to say.. it's fantastic!! with this mod civilization iv bts becomes (one of) the most complete strategical game I've ever seen..
I write here because the italian translation is not complete, most of the RoM's units/buildings/options and so on are still in english.. this mod is very complicated and if it is half in italian and half in english it becomes unplayable :)
I would like to translate in italian the whole mod, but I have 0 experience with programmation and similar.. can someone help me and telle me how to do it?
thank you ;)
Afforess Aug 20, 2010, 08:01 AM Sure, you open up the mod folder, and inside, go to - "Rise of Mankind/Assets/XML/Text" which contains a bunch of XML files. Open any one of them up with a word editor, like notepad, and you will see entries for several languages. Translate the line that says "<Italian>" and save it, and your changes should appear when you reload the game. If you do translate a lot, please, upload it here so Zappara can include them in future releases.
The Turk Aug 20, 2010, 08:11 AM When's the next version coming out?? I thought Revoultion DCM was supposed to be fixed by now, and I STILL cannot install the latest version!

My apologies for messed link the first time....checked it working now, same link as Afforsees lists below.
The Turk Aug 20, 2010, 07:14 PM Thanks Graiskye!
For your help and effort, but megaupload doesn't work in my area:blush:
If anyone can upload it somewhere else, that would be great!

Don't just say "somewhere else". Tell us EXACTLY where else you can download from easily. Then see if anyone can upload 900MB file to that place. Better yet, make a list of places you can download from, then go research their upload policies. If any of places you like can accept over 900MB file, post here :).
Otherwise, you are at risk of sounding like a whiny child ;).
The Turk Aug 21, 2010, 07:10 AM The thing is os79, that I can install from ANYWHERE ELSE, but for some reason, people keep uploading it to megaupload or uTorrent. Heck I'm fine with torrent, but I use Vuze, and for some reason, it won't let me install it, using Vuze! I have never had a problem using ANY other download site, EXCEPT for megaupload, and now for some reason, I can't install a uTorrent file, and download it on Vuze, I have not idea what that is though.

Graiskye Aug 21, 2010, 01:02 PM Okay I have tried to upload a 2.92 torrent to IsoHunt a Canadian site I have used for a few years with good success.
Problem is that I cannot find it through the search, this may be because it is brand new and hasn't made it into the search bank, but, Ill just provide the link to the download page right here.....
New Torrent for ROM 2.92:
http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/206719441/ROM+2.92+Rise+of+Mankind+Civilzation+IV+Civ+IV?tab =summary
Note it may take a moment to load in, the page will sit blank for a moment, it works for me, I tested it.
I will seed for a couple of days hopefully will get it started ??
-Grais.
PS: I have never done this before so please take this into account if it doesn't work right away, 'we' might have to iron out a few details, but I think I got it alright, we shall see.
Have a great day.
The Turk Aug 21, 2010, 09:28 PM Thank You so much for your effort! But.... for some reason every time I try to make it work, it gives me a "open Error" message which pops up, for some reason it dosen't want to run the torrent :(
sigh.... I don't understand why its so hard to download this mod! I've never had problems like this for RoM
But thank you anyways!

I'm going to translate the whole game, so I really think that I will upload the new XML ;)
Thank you very much, I'll start this evening.. it will take some time, I'm preparing an entry test for the university :(
gyrobot Aug 22, 2010, 07:48 PM Whatever happened to the education civics?
Afforess Aug 22, 2010, 07:50 PM They got removed a while back... either in 2.6 or 2.5
federico91 Aug 23, 2010, 02:32 AM I saw that a new version of RoM was released.. are the XML text files still the same? yesterday I translated about 15 xml of the 2.91, and I wouldn't like to do again the same job, also because it's quite long..
can someone tell me if it's better that I stop the 2.91 translation and start the 2.92 one?
makrisgialos Aug 23, 2010, 09:39 AM Dear all,
i ve been playing this mod for long in order to understand what is going on.
Assumed we have free speech here,i would like to post my comments.
bad things first.
*technologies:
there are so many.My opinion is that so many techs making the game very heavy, and some are complete useless.Especially on marathon or epic speed. For example, tech research:stirrup! axaxaxaxax: cry:
*the game crashes very often.i dont know what is causing this.It is supposed to be fixed with a patch...
*useless and so many resources.i dont think that every resource was necessary, obsidian for example-consuming valuable space tiles for something better.
*Soooo many units-the same point.Too many,making the game "Heavy".example:light tank,medium tank,heavy tank....
*So many buildings. Some were needed in combine with some resources, for example:bakery if you have corn,or wheat. But most were not needed-airport,military airbase, commercial airport....
*Eventually someone must learn and create somthing i miss from previous versions of civs, but existed in Civ 1,2:The mount peaks connected, and be passable.Mountains are very difficult to appear. And someone at last should EXPLAIN to modders that not every mountain must be an active volcano.!
*Unavailability to disable future era.
Good things.
*Some resources are very clever-ammunition-for gunpowder units.Cause in the original civ iv gunpowder units require almost nothing. This should (and very wisely)changed.
*Adding more religions-another +1 good point.
Ancient egyptians and Greeks perhaps had the most famous religions of the ancient world.Someone at last added them.
*Ranged bombardment,certainly good point.
*Good addition of national wonders (allowing to provide resources) and other benefits.
*Impressive addition of civics.A very good idea and with many choices.Although, some like health system and education should not been removed.
*I love the growing industry-ilke the cottage-styl.!both thumbs up 4 this.:goodjob:
In Many big cities around the world, there is their"industrial zone".It is represented perfectly with this addition.
*Improved graphics,of course,
*Added random events.
*Weather effects-very good as well, but why always at sea?Should have been at land as well...And this has opened the way to ambitious modders to create some others-snowstorms for example.
Dont forget how Hitler's troops were slowed down cause of russian winter.
Civ 5 seems as a failure. For me it is strongly distastefull that religions are missing, multiple units cannot be in the same tile. There were certainly nice features, but now they removed.
Of course the modders cant agree with anyone here-like me for example. No doubt that they have worked really hard and very much,no doubt they have improved civilization IV.
Even if they can improve it more than this. They could also, add "legends"as i have seen in another mod.And i think that this mod is going to be playble for long.Even on its earlier versions.
Comments,opinios,always welcome...
Dancing Hoskuld Aug 23, 2010, 02:39 PM Of course the modders cant agree with anyone here-like me for example. No doubt that they have worked really hard and very much,no doubt they have improved civilization IV.

You do know that the mod Rise of Mankind is done by one person, Zappara. However there are a large number of mods built to expand it.
bad things first.
*So many buildings. Some were needed in combine with some resources, for example:bakery if you have corn,or wheat. But most were not needed-airport,military airbase, commercial airport....
I can't "live" without the airport how else will my automated workers, missionaries and CEOs get to all parts of my empire. ;)
*Eventually someone must learn and create somthing i miss from previous versions of civs, but existed in Civ 1,2:The mount peaks connected, and be passable.Mountains are very difficult to appear. And someone at last should EXPLAIN to modders that not every mountain must be an active volcano.!
The volcano is just a Civ IV/BtS event as far as I know the only modding done in one of RoM mods was to put a volcano graphic there for awhile.
The expansion "A New Dawn" adds in passable mountains in a way that works well IMHO. It is the main reason I use that expansion.
makrisgialos Aug 24, 2010, 08:38 AM Dear Friend,
Thanks for your comment.
i didnt meant that airport should not be present,i meant its various"expansions".For example, the military airbase, and then you must build and the commercial airport. For these facilities i was reffering to,not of course the airport. And still insist, that having so many units, and buildings to build,-lets suppose you are involved to war as well-seems impossible, and personally, never have the chance to build them.
Since i reffered to a war situation i think that 10 turns are few for peace.
Yes i know that zappara made the mod, however is a combination of many people worked in several mods in order to improve something.
Also,i wonder if you ve ever played civilization 1,and civilization 2.in these games, the mountains sometimes were forming chains,cordillera-like the alps today in europe highlands in scotland,or andes in south america.now,in civ iv there is only one peak, and nothing more.
i think that zappata instead of adding marsh, should add this.
The Turk Aug 24, 2010, 08:59 AM @makrisgialos
Don't mean to sound offensive or anything, I mean everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the only reason why so many people play this mod, is because of all the added "stuff" to this mod. I mean a good opposite to this mod would be RFC, since it has only, "New features", while the great thing about this mod, is that its jam packed with all sorts of new, buildings, units, improvements, civics, religions etc, and if Zappara starts taking away all that stuff, then the game becomes less and less enjoyable. At least this is my opinion, but I'm sure a lot of people can relate to what I'm saying, correct? :)
BUT, when I cannot play this mod either way, then that becomes a problem ;)
So I was wondering when we will see a new installment for this mod come out?
makrisgialos Aug 24, 2010, 11:14 AM Hello there,
No offensive at all.As i said on the beggining,i (want to ) believe we have free speech here,so all comments are welcome.
As i have explain,some buildings,units,resources,improvements,and techs,were needed.No doubt about that.
I m telling again, that simply you cant -or perhaps-you cannot catch up and build all these buildings, units etc.Even on the original CIV iv you barely can and sometime not at all.Ancient Greeks have a famous saying"παν μέτρον άριστον",means in general you must keep some balance.Balance i consider here not exists.I donw know how many techs are imported,i assume around 90,but i think 30-40 would be perfect. After that,i was playing and got boring...
In my first comment with talking points i explain good things and bad things-you called them"staff and i agree with this.I dont agree with a huge amount of extra things.also nice to hear anyone's opinion.
ginge51 Aug 24, 2010, 05:00 PM Has anyone got a mirrow to download the latset version other then the the torrent version please?

i think that zappata instead of adding marsh, should add this.
I find that the Tectonics (RoM_Tectonics) map script often provides such mountain chains. It is the main reason that I use that script. ;) It can also provide upland plateus but these are not quite right IMHO.
And yes I have played every version of Civ since the beginning, and yes I am one of those who have added mods to RoM. ;)

In my first comment with talking points i explain good things and bad things-you called them"staff and i agree with this.I dont agree with a huge amount of extra things.also nice to hear anyone's opinion.
I can't disagree more. I suspect that RoM just isn't the mod you are looking for. There are plenty of other worthy conversion mods, try out Total Realism, which may be more to your liking.

Falcon 1967 Aug 25, 2010, 02:26 AM Well, i believe ROM point of strenght is to have lot of stuff aswell.
Imho the problem is not how much stuff you have in game, but that CIV4 does not support multi-processors (bad spelling, hope you catch what i mean), slowing the game for every single unit, building or tech you add to the original game.
My hope is that ROM can be decently "moved" to CIV5, having the same variety with a faster performance.
To makrisgialos: i'm quite sure that the same ROM you are playing with faster turns would give you a completely different and enjoyable experience. :goodjob:

Falcon,
you are correct.
I have tried to play this in normal speed.Game seems to be better. But on marathon speed is a slow death from boring.
Another problem however is that game crashes.I dont know what is causing this.
Also the answer from some members here (meaning if you dont like this mod find something else to play) reminds me nothing more than a high horse attitude. It reminds me a customer who is visiting a tavern, and some(not all) foods are not good. Then complains this to the owner, and the rude owner replies"if you dont like here,go and eat somewhere else".Some of these guys possibly visiting my country for vacations. And they would not feel happy if someone talks to them with this manner if they were be present in a situation like this.Thats the way now adreesing to me.Behind a pc i would also feel perfeclty safe to speak like this, but if you have someone infront of you i bet that they would not be so bold with this behaviour.
PS:No,i wont make the favor to you searching finlandian translation in google.I have explained what "παν μετρον αριστον "means.
-ladyshav0r- Aug 25, 2010, 01:03 PM First time i installed this mod, just a question to the very early game. As i recognized it lasts long to build settlers(about 75 rounds or so). Is it intended to last that long or am i doing anything wrong? The AI players have already build a second city, how did they do this(my settler_production at this point is still far away from completion)?
Another question: ist there a way to find out, what my scouts have discovered in tribe villages? I thought there were messages that tell you what you get in it or is it just new 'feature' in BTS 3.19?(last time i played civ was on version 3.17)

This is a bug that crept into the latest version of RoM :(.
dguichar Aug 25, 2010, 03:57 PM Well, i've got another bug.
I don't know what happened, but upon using CONTROL-A on city screen to sell improvements... it appears the pop up on confirm sell or cancel, but i click on confirm and it doesn't sell anything.
drjones Aug 27, 2010, 10:44 PM If it needs to be said, this mod is for people who want MORE, which is why I love it and cannot play Civ without it.
As for it being bad business to reject the criticism of a customer who does not like the food in your Restaurant, this is not a restaurant it is someones house who has cooked you a huge banquet for free so complaints are unseemly. Constructive criticism is always good, but do not expect that your opinion of good cooking is what everyone wants to eat, especially since this has been worked on for a LONG time by some talented people who probably have other things to do.
Anyway, I found I have a lot less crashes since I got Windows 7 64 bit and 6 gigs of ram. It used to take me 2-3 min just to load the mod now it loads as fast as vanilla civ. AI turns can still get slow in the later game but I usually quit once I am winning anyway. And with tanks and aircraft winning is usually pretty easy.
One problem I still have is I like the revolution mod and the barbarian cities turn to civs mod, it makes it harder for me to dominate early which is more fun, but the AI just gets crushed by it. I always end up facing 30+ 1-2 city states. I wait for the AI to start consolidating them but as soon as they expand they get revolutions so it is easy for me even on the second highest difficulty.
Other than that this is still the king of Civ IV mods in my opinion. Thank you for all the work! I desperately hope that Civ V gets similar treatment soon after release!

Very interesting.
You give me hope that upgrading my system to 64bit will help to play RoM (and AND) again :).
Point for discussion: is it really a hardware problem or just a (software) CIV4-problem?
Maybe a lead to solving some video-problems. It has nothing to do with AND, well not directly, for AND is demanding ....We had a discussion in the AND-MODMOD-thread about the system used or the graphicscard being the cause of the game collapsing:
I doubt it. Civilization 4's diplomacy screen, popout videos, and menus have always been laggy. Play BTS unmodded and build a wonder to see for yourself. It's not a mod problem. Also, since the game uses 32bit architecture, the maximum ram it can use is ~3GB of ram. (On 32-bit computers, be sure to enable 3GB of Ram usage). So if you use too big of maps, it can cause memory allocation failures, which I have little control over.
There is quit a lot in Afforess view on it , I think

Well it is both, as far as I can see the Mod expands the memory needed to run civ to the point that before 64bit it was swapping out a lot to the HD which causes major slowdowns. I would assume the mod could be adjusted to not use as much RAM, but that would require removing functionality and features in all likelihood so that does not seem like a fix to me. Given that games expand as time goes by the 6gigs I have now might not be enough after a while, or there might also be CPU bottlenecks on some functions.
gudal Aug 29, 2010, 05:09 AM Hello
Just upgraded to 2.92 from 2.81 (and with AND 1.74). Suddenly forests are removed when I build mines. Not sure if this is RoM or AND, or if it is bug or feature. Anyone know? Is this done in xml or python, and how can I fix it manually without waiting for new release?
Thanks for a great mod by the way.

It is part of the optional AND mod BetterRoM. This option has many things in it mostly IMO they are trying to get the balance in it back to where it is in RoM while adding content. I don't use this option as this removal of forrest and a few other features move to far from RoM IMHO.

Not long after he gets pissed at how disappointing Civ5 is and then gets over the ensuing depression and turns the anger and depression into RoM for CIV5. With the "unprecedented modding tools" available, it should happen pretty quickly. Right?

Thinking about drjones' remarks above, I tried something:
Under Vista you can create a socalled "READYBOOST MEMORY" by changing (a portion) of fast memory in the property-window of that memory
In my case I used an usb-stick. It has to be FAST (at least USB2) or it will not work: the ReadyBoost-tab will not even appear in the window !
I connected a 4Gb USB2-stick, changed it to ReadyBoost and suddenly everything works fine !!!
It turns out that in Vista the ReadyvBoost can also be used in the way drjones describes above.
There is a small led in my usb-stick and I can clearly see the heavy activity as it needs this memory when I play CIV4-RoM-AND on High Grapics at 1680x1050. It even works great in a game fully developed after many turns!
By the way: same thing for other demanding graphics- or video-software
Hope it may help some of you too !
greetings,
Viator

Cyrus_the_Great Sep 08, 2010, 10:41 AM Thank you zappara for making the most fantastic mod for Civ IV.
I first found out about RoM two weeks ago when I decided to come back to civfanatics to see what was new. I saw on the home page a hotlink for Rise of Mankind_A New Dawn, so I gave it a try.
Wow, I am impressed. I am also hooked now. I tried to play a vanilla game of Civ IV yesterday, but it seems so plain and unexciting. I really enjoy the graphic changes and all the new details you added. And I am thankful for you and all the others combining so many cool modmods to your base mod.
Again, thanks a million for your creation.

When does RoM come out for Civ5?
::grin::RoM for Civ 4 has been in development for over 3.5 years - initial release took about 8 months to make. I had also lots of free time to devote this project - these days I got lot of work to do and less free time. With this in mind, I'd estimate it would take at least 6 months to make a initial release but it can also take until next summer for first release - though we'll probably be lacking new graphics for long time since it will take lots of time from other modders to model new units, buildings etc for the new civ engine... We modders also have to learn new scripting language and all the modding tools and file structures etc. We also have to play Civ 5 for while to understand all the game mechanics...
Not long after he gets pissed at how disappointing Civ5 is and then gets over the ensuing depression and turns the anger and depression into RoM for CIV5. With the "unprecedented modding tools" available, it should happen pretty quickly. Right?I'm already disappointed to Civ 5, even though I haven't even seen it yet - it's lacking stuff!!! More work for us modders!  But then again there never hasn't been any Civ games that I haven't enjoyed when playing them first time... ;)
Given the scope and complexity of RoM... you'd probably need to upload Zappara's brain into a computer to allow for nigh-instantaneous editing to get it done in... a couple of months or so!

Cheers, LT.My ultimate goal is to take over the world! :D Uploading brains to computer will happen around 2030-2040 so that's going to have to wait  Besides, you wouldn't be ready now for that complex AI... ;)
Anyhow, I still got to finish up Civ 4: RoM project before moving to next projects... If only I hadn't so much overwork at this fall...

See point 6 in the FAQ (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=338931).
Basically it says that you should have installed it in the "Beyond the Sword\Mods\Rise of Mankind" anything else won't work. Also it should not be in your "My Games" folder.
One other commonish mistake is to install it into a "Beyond the Sword\Mods\Rise of Mankind\Rise of Mankind" folder.

You need to set up so that you go straight to RoM
- use a short cut (there is something in the RoM Forum on how to do this),
- double click on a save or
- change your civilization.ini file (in "My Games\Meyond the Sword" folder) to point to RoM.
Change

Mod = Mods\Rise of Mankind
or
Mod = Mods\Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn

I'm asking because a friend and I tried for 2 hours to get RoM version 2.92 to work under Direct IP, Internet Game and LAN with Hamachi and we just could not see each others game lobbies at the end of the day. In fact no games appeared on Internet Games (the one hosted by Gamespy). Beyond The Sword with no mods seems to work fine on Internet Games, but this is rather discouraging since the readme indicates that Rise of Mankind is multiplayer compatible. :(

Have you got a new tech that allows a new route type and your workers automated? Routes cost money to build but you would need to have a very large work force for this example to be so.

God-Emperor Sep 16, 2010, 06:57 PM A possibility:
If you have one or more cities set to decide what to build for themselves (the city governor is turned on) then they can, and will, rush buy things if you are running a civic that allows things to be rushed with money. They won't spend every last coin, but they will apparently keep the total pretty low.
Well, this happens in regular BtS so I assume that it also happens here. I always manage my own cities so have never seen it myself.

No. Paying for building routes is not part of BtS so it is not counted by the code that says how much income there will be for the turn. The money is taken out when the worker starts building the route in a plot.

aaaaa111 Sep 25, 2010, 02:32 PM hello, what decises that in 2.92 there are not anymore combat percentages adding ex. for a diesel ships +100% vs wooden ships? or +150% for tanks vs melee units? it was good for realism as it was much harder to have a tank destroyed with ex. archer or cavalry. Which component removes this? maybe dawn of man? i would also want to propose adding bigger percentages in version 3.0 - those 100 or 200% are sometimes not enough and ex. 10 line ships can destroy battleship if they attack all together in same turn, what is not realistic. Thanks for answer

The reason it resets stuff all the time is because RoM/AND have more basic game options (cntl-O).
DrJambo Sep 29, 2010, 06:31 AM Hi,
I have a couple of suggestions re promotions:
1. Improve the Drill line. For example, changing the chances of first strikes to first strikes, at the very least for the first level promotion.
2. Many of the unit combat promotions (e.g. shock and cover) work for units attacking and defending. This means they're of better strategic value than the promotions that impart bonuses for terrain which are typically just for defending.
With forests and jungles so predominant now, I feel there's now an over-emphasis on the defensive aspect of conducting warfare. This involves simply blocking approaching stacks by placing units with defensive woodsman promotions in all the forests and jungles. These terrain features already have a 50% defensive bonus! If, however, the promotions were to equally emphasize attacking into the terrain type, then there would be more to the attacking/counterattacking aspect of warfare.
So, with all this in mind I was wondering if the Guerilla, Woodsman, Field, Cold and Warmth promotions should be designed to better emphasize attacking into the terrain types? I think for Woodsman and Guerilla they only get this on level 3.
And an observation on units:
I don't know whether it just depends on which parts of the tech tree one focuses on, but the arrival of swordsmen at 10 strength seemed to dominate proceedings. They were vastly more powerful than any of the other units available at that time - archers, mounted infantry, pikemen - and macemen, their natural counter, were considerably further down the tech tree.
TLF Sep 29, 2010, 07:02 AM How would I set it up to start with a shortcut?
I don't see an executable in the folder.
Was there an option for that when it was installed? I don't remember.

Ditto. LimeWire pops up a message saying:
"Invalid magnet option."
Clicking "OK" closes the message, and nothing happens.
geminisama Oct 05, 2010, 03:43 AM I'm with those guys. Trying to start a torrent, and I get this, "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (magnet) isn't associated with any program."
I'm trying to use uTorrent.
Edit: Nvm, figured it out. For those having issues, go into your torrent programs settings, and associate magnet links with it. Atleast, it worked with uTorrent.
Quetz Oct 05, 2010, 11:14 AM Is something wrong with my gamespeeds (2.92)? On epic I build a warrior/research a tech in 4-5 turns with one city. On marathon I build/research in about 10 turns (which is what I was aiming for) but my capital with a wheat and farm right next to it won't grow to size 2 for 30 turns? O.o

xatharas Oct 11, 2010, 04:40 PM this probably has been answered somewhere, but I can't find it so here goes;
I bought a new PC this weekend which runs windows 7, I reinstalled the game (dvd version) and it works fine. I want to play with this mod though, but I can't get it to work. When I leave everything I can choose RoM mod and the game restarts (as it should) then the screen flickers before it starts to reload and then nothing!
So I try to put the exe to compatability XP, but then I get please insert CD while it's in there, when I turn of the compatable thing I can start the normal game again??
Anyone know how to get rid of the 'please insert cd' thingy?
JoeHollywood Oct 12, 2010, 06:43 AM have you gone online and patched to 3.19 yet?
xatharas Oct 12, 2010, 08:38 AM Yes, I also tried to install it in a new folder (instead of the automatic program files one), but I get the same result.
Game starts in windows 7, from the moment I put it on compatibility xp (or vista or ME or 2000) it gives me 'please insert cd/dvd and restart the application' (in other words the dvd becomes invisible in compatibility mode )

I believe it runs fine in Windows 7 but you may need to run as administrator or change the access rights on RoM.

If you tried as admin and it did not work then changing the access rights wont help either. I don't have win 7, I was just suggesting stuff I had read worked elsewhere. Have you looked in the Rise of Mankind forums? Don't know if it will help.
Just a thought, the version of BtS you are running is the latest. If not you will have to download and apply the patch. the in game update does not work.

You do need Beyond the Sword latest version. I don't think you need Warlords.
snoochems Oct 14, 2010, 12:50 AM I've just pressed "launch" on my first game, and it is getting stuck on the map generation screen.
I chose "Gigantic" map. My RAM is only sitting at 1.9GB, out of 4GB.
I'm running Windows 7 x64.
Is Gigantic map sizes just not able to be played without more RAM or something?
EDIT: Nevermind. I had to kill Civ after waiting for about 20 minutes, but started another gigantic map and it's all good. I think I was just unlucky.

Dancing Hoskuld Oct 18, 2010, 02:14 PM Loving the mod, but I'm curious about the absence of Healthcare, and Education civics?
There was a huge discussion on civics in an earlier version of RoM and many things were tried and what we now have is what we ended up with. Some mods have also added new civics but most have fallen by the wayside. I think only the military civic (mod) is still around.

I think excellent work has been made here :)
I really get an historical feeling while playing. After the Civ5 disappointment, RoM offers some new freshness to me, though I am a long-time Civ4-veteran!
One question : is there some kind of online Sevopedia? I couldn't find it in the first posts and 161 pages are too much for me to browse ;)
Thanks

There's not I'm afraid. Is there an automated tool you know of that generates one for other mods you've seen? The subject has come up some time ago, but the tree and units were so large no one was interested in doing it by hand, and no one was aware of an automated solution.

Also, when is someone going to upload a non torrent version of the new patch?

RoM is a very huge mod especially if you add in the mod mods.
Fixes?
Save often. My machine is not top of the line (anymore). I almost always get a MAF about the end of the Renassiance or early Industrial so make sure I save often then. Starting from that save I can usually get to the transhuman era before the next MAF.
geminisama Oct 23, 2010, 03:55 PM Do save often, but I can save like a total of once a sitting (if that), and now I can't get past this one turn specifically.
But that's weird, cause ROM worked fine for me before, on a larger map, more civs, and all game.
Dancing Hoskuld Oct 23, 2010, 04:49 PM Do save often, but I can save like a total of once a sitting (if that), and now I can't get past this one turn specifically.
But that's weird, cause ROM worked fine for me before, on a larger map, more civs, and all game.
? Is it crashing out or is it in the "waiting for civs" loop. If the loop then that is an unfortunate bug which has no solution (for that save). I think you have to give up on the game and start a new one. Most of these sort of problems were sorted out in the AND mod pack to RoM and will be sorted out in RoM when the next version of RevDCM comes out and is merged into RoM. Which may not happen in civ iv sadly.
geminisama Oct 23, 2010, 05:06 PM I've had the endless "waiting for civs" loop, which a previous save did fix; but the problem I'm encountering is this. If I load the game, and have to load again; memory alloc. crash. If I save several times, memory alloc., and the last time, I built something, and the game crashed.
I don't get why it's crashing so much, I have alot of memory allocated, and like I said, I played games on bigger maps, more civs, hundreds of units controlled by me alone, WITH Blue Marble. Could it have to do with the smartworld, or whatever, script causing alot of memory? In past mods, including ROM, I always played on normal mapscripts, like Hemispheres.
OwieB2003 Oct 26, 2010, 10:16 AM The game is crashing because of a limitation of 32-bit OSes, and programs, not any fault of the modders or players computers. There is no real "solve" to this because Civ 4 was designed as a 32-bit application and rewriting it as a 64-bit app aint gonna happen, prolly. Playing the game in a 64-bit OS delays the problem probably til after the time victory passes, (unless you're playing at Snail or slower on a Gigantic map or something) but it's still there. Larger maps (and mods with more things) add to the problem, so by playing a mod that doesn't add as much as RoM/RoM:AND (like terrain types, resources, events, civs, leaders, units, buildings, civics, new eras, BUG support, RevDCM support, etc) you could play for longer periods of time before you hit a MAF, but it's still there. S'why when I want a new map, I quit out of Civ4 completely, cuz the last time I tried (even in base game) to make two huge maps using one of the larger filesize mapscripts, I hit a MAF.
geminisama Oct 27, 2010, 01:23 AM That's the thing though, I'm used to memory crashes after a point, from Civ 3 mods like AOI; but this MAF is happening on a specific turn, as opposed to the ones I was getting every few hours before on the same game. Seems the specific turn goes over the limit for good.
Dreifels Oct 29, 2010, 03:32 PM I installed static leaderhead, but then for all sav I get runtime error when loading the sav. When I start a new game, then the sav are fine.
Giant map gets grafic errors at turn 200 already, althought free ram is more than 1.4 GB that time
Barbarian mod feature also is causing mass of crashes, w/o the game is much more stabile
dynamic names feature is causing mass of error messages in game.
If I understand right, most source for crashes are amount of civs incl. barbarian civs, not amount of units. Had games with "huge" maps crashing at turn 200 already, while after reload of previous turn's sav they run fine until turn 600.
Afforess Oct 29, 2010, 03:51 PM Keep in mind that Dynamic Civ Names was made for English only. Giant maps are probably too big for this mod, I wouldn't go above Large.
Dreifels Oct 29, 2010, 06:17 PM Keep in mind that Dynamic Civ Names was made for English only.
well, that maybe the reason, I play German language all.
Giant maps are probably too big for this mod, I wouldn't go above Large.
"RFC Earth with big Europe 50 civs" I can run fine with 32 civs set, w/o Barbarian, but with Revolution, and with animated leaders. Carter Earth crashes at 1900 ca. totally, can't load the late sav files again after crash. But still have more than 500 MB free memory.
Now I got installed the static leaders and try to install the "no Buildings" und will look if I can run Carter with this.
What helped a lot (as before I could not play any of RoM):
1) in CivilizationIV.ini I did add this two lines:
MemorySaver = 1
NoMovies = 1
(and set the resolution by .ini as inside the main options you can't change current resolution anymore if set memserver=1)
2) I run "Beyond the Sword 3.17 Unofficial Patch" (which is nothing else than expand the compressed files which reduces ram and cpu usage, has no direct effect to grafic ram)
3) in boot loader (boot.ini) I now start Windows with
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional 3GB userva" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /3GB /userva=2900
With that I could run the "RFC Earth with big Europe 50 civs" with 1680 x 1050 and anmated leaders, low grafic settings, fine.
Dreifels Nov 03, 2010, 04:30 AM curious thing I had today:
running new game fine until turn 260, then game exit with error message "civ has detected a failure ...." when I wanted to open the worldbuilder.
But could continue the game nevertheless (made a sav for any turn) and got always same crash with worldbuilder, until turn 360, then suddenly I could enter the woldbuilder again fine and work and continue the game.
Now turn 600 and no more crashes, not with game and not with worldbuilder.
It was NOT a video memory thing and no memory allocation error-
Never had such before.
Sols Nov 04, 2010, 05:55 AM im having a problem on the loading screen when starting games on 'initialising' for the majority of games i try to begin.
the last one i tried (Carter32civs scenario) a fatal error screen appeared saying 'memory allocation error' after which it closed down the game.
now im assuming that this is a performance related issue with my own pc, as it is quite dated (hence why im playing civ4 not 5) but just wanted to put it out there incase it was a fixable problem as im not a technical wizz in any way with computers!
but in the past ive been able to play multiplayer on the earth 35civ map that utilises the same terrain gfx as the RoM mod does with no issues.
perhaps its the volume of smallers mods involved within the whole mod?
any help with this problem id greatly appreciate
off topic: when it has worked, the whole mod looks amazing. i just hope im able to play a good game of it sometime!

1) see my posting of Oct 30, 2010, 01:17 AM above here and try these settings (if you run Win XP)
2) amount of civs is not the main point for memory allocation error. Much more critical are other settings, i.e. "Barbarian" enabled.
3) also, try to enable/install the static Leaderheads and "no buildings", this reduces the required grafic amount.
4) for me the biggest map I can run fine is the RFC "Europe enlarged" with 50 civs, while I choose ~ 30-36 of them. (there may come up more civs nevertheless, because the "Revolution")
5) so far my experience is, you cannot load a .sav fine if you don't have the same settings. I.e. if you change resolution or enable static Leaderheads or "no Buildungs" you can't load fine a .sav of different settings. (This made me confuse long time, as I got always errors when I tried to enable static Leaderheads and after that continue a game that did run fine before.)
6) map sizes running fine in Vanilla or original BtS may crash in RoM because RoM needs more Ram.
Sols Nov 04, 2010, 06:25 AM kudos for the swift reply :)

look in RoM package, there somewhere is a readme.html (or something like this, can't look in just now because it is on another comp) with description how to do
Sols Nov 04, 2010, 04:37 PM found them, cheers for that.
managed to get a scenario started on giant earth map 32civs fixed pos. as england but i started to hit virtual memory issues around turn 100.
im just guessing that my pc is starting to show its age
guess ill have to refrain from using bigger maps!
Sols Nov 05, 2010, 09:05 AM sorry for posting again, but im new to the mod so obviously im only just encountering issues.
ive started a game on huge fixed 28civ earth map, im at turn 120~ and i keep getting blue screened with a STOP command then shuts down the system about 4-5 turns in from each load having saved the game after each turn.
The performance until this point within the game seems fine each time.
The tech report states:
STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xDE1BD351, 0xF6A768F8 (this is the only block of code that alternates each crash), 0x00000000
NV4_disp.dll - Address DE1BD351 base at DDDD7000 Data Stamp 482dff70
Above this it mentions stuff about BIOS and cache. (if this refers to the civ 4 caches i clear them before each load)
Now on the last crash for the first time, it also had a sentence about physical memory dumping.
Any help as to what this problem is? Is it related to my pc, whether performance or wrongly setup that causes it OR is it a problem with the mod itself?
again, any and all help is greatly appreciated!
Wodan Nov 05, 2010, 02:47 PM ive started a game on huge fixed 28civ earth map
Any help as to what this problem is?
See above.
Civ 4 itself has documented, proven memory management issues. ROM doesn't help by having a ton of added elements (increases memory requirements). You're not helping by playing on Huge, nor by playing with 28 civs.
I would suggest cutting back on the latter.
chichiri181190 Nov 05, 2010, 11:12 PM just download 9.2 RoM yesterday, i played on small map
and it run so smooth until turn 421 when i tried to end turn and it not responding

and the turn never change
it was okay the turn before this
try lo exit BTS and load the autosave same thing happening
is there a way to fix it?
it's already happening 2 times now >_<
both occur in 350++ turn or so
sorry for my bad english BTW
falbhanachaich Nov 08, 2010, 06:08 AM Hello friends!
Could anybody explain to me please what exactly does the Improvise N ("Free Preparation bonus") promotion (5 steps in it) with the spies in RoM mean?
Does it decrease the espionage points spent on missions or increase the income and effects dealt by them or something else?
There is no explanation about it in the pedia in the corresponding section and the very term "free preparation" sounds too dim to extract the correct sense of it
I've understood all the stuff in the mod except this point ((

I don't think there is a pack for 2.92. I think they were made compatible with RoM-AND instead.
ScottishViking Nov 10, 2010, 10:38 AM Hello everyone,
This has been discussed to death, but I'm not very tech-savvy and am wondering if people can help me with my crashing game.
I'm playing on a very powerful machine, newest Win7, buckets of RAM. Playing ROM, Perfect World 2 map, giant size. About 14 civs.
Around turn 450 my game crashes to desktop. It's not a freeze, it just dumps to desktop. It seems to be hitting a hard wall, since I've reloaded from earlier saves and it just won't get past it.
Can someone provide some advice?
Thanks in advance.

There are a few problems in the dll which will cause a CTD (crash to desktop). There are a few hints in the RoM forum (http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=269) about how to get passed some of them. Although you will have to search for them yourself. They involve going into world builder and deleting units or cities until the crash does not happen any more!
Another option is to start a new game using RoM with AND 1.74h or playing RoM-A New Dawn (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=372884). I use the former.
Chernobyl Nov 11, 2010, 05:12 PM Amy Chance we can get the Christianity requirement removed from King Richard's Crusade? I mean, if you want to make it specific to a religion, why not make it specific to England as well?
A world wonder should not be made unavailable based on religion choice.

A world wonder should not be made unavailable based on religion choice.
There are a whole bunch of world wonders only available to a specific religion, especially if you have AAranda/My religion mod added in.
King Richard's Crusade was moded to Christianity in the the main mod as part of the Holy War mod because there were going to be religion specific war related units buildings and wonders. However that mod dropped off the radar as no one finished making it.
If you want to change your copy go into the XML
1. make a back up of CIV4BuildingInfos.xml in assets\xml\buildings
2. edit CIV4BuildingInfos.xml using any text editor
3. find BUILDINGCLASS_CRUSADE
4. change

ScottishViking Nov 23, 2010, 07:34 PM I'm getting really frustrated. This is the fourth game I've made, starting on Giant and now down to large. As soon as the game file size hits about 1,240 kb, it freezes mid-load or CTD. My computer is very powerful; it is not my computer. And this seems to be a common complaint.
I don't mean to be too critical, but is it even POSSIBLE to finish a game on a size higher than large? I'm not even getting to the Industrial eras for most of my games. I've reduced my settings, deleted units and cities (which I don't consider to be a good solution). Is there someone on here who HAS finished a game on, say, one of the Perfect World maps (what I'm using)?
Until someone can provide me with some workable advice, I won't be playing this mod again. This breaks my heart because it is AWESOME, and I have NO complaints about it other than the seeming wall I hit around this level. I am HOPING someone can provide me with a workable solution.
Dancing Hoskuld Nov 23, 2010, 08:18 PM I'm getting really frustrated.
I have played a number of games to completion. However I get CTDs while doing so. I just save often and reload after a CTD. There are some memory leaks in Civ IV which can cause problems as do the number of graphics for units and buildings in play, for example when I go from one era and so change era graphics I often get a crash, but loading from a save must flush out the old graphics giving me enough memory to play on.
All my graphic settings are high except that I prefer the "single unit graphics" option. With "normal" RoM ie RoM 2.92 with my preferred modmods, no extra civs or leaderheads, I can play on huge. With RoM-Prehistoric (based on RoM-AND) I can only play on large.

Why is it so hard to do such a simple as make this available as a straight download? All the other versions can be downloaded this way.

Many sites only keep the files there for a month or two then get rid of it. Probably depends on downloads as well. Too much or too little and the file gets removed. What can you expect for free ;). I will check where I am at with my monthly limit and see if I can upload it somewhere.
Edit: I am uploading a version now but it will take a couple of hours, 200 minutes!

BobTheBull Nov 26, 2010, 08:37 AM Why can't you upload it to the downloads section of CVC?

They only allow 10MB and RoM is 460MB.

Please tell me that isn't a torrent? :please:
BobTheBull Dec 03, 2010, 06:15 AM They have files in the download section over 600 Mb; since ROM is one of the most popular mods I don't see why they can't accommodate it.

Then there must be some other way of doing it because the standard way has a 10Mb limit.
