I need to rip a 2-hour DVD as an AVI. Not copy-protected. It needs to be an AVI spefically of at pretty good quality. I tried Handbrake and it doesn't work, and a program called Free DVD Ripper made terrible quality. I also tried converting the VOB directly to AVI, but it was too big. :p

Anyone know any other (FREE) methods?

you could try AutoGK (http://www.autogk.me.uk/)

it takes unencrypted VOB-Files and lets you convert them to DivX or Xvid, etc.

also the Free DVD Ripper should have been able to make decent quality as well; maybe you used a bad encoding format or too much compression?
