I have tried eveything I have read on this forum about loading a mod(specifically a civ), and yet, nothing ever happens! I have held down shift, changed the settings to atuomatically load the mod, yet nothing ever happens! The game loads, and it says the mod is loaded, but I can never select the new civ! Can someone help me?

Try post # 10, but this thread is for New Civ's, not questions, sorry.

Well, I'm a little confused on what that posti is telling me to do. I tried putting that folder in every folder I could think of, but nothing has worked yet. What folder am I supposed to be putting it in?

You put in ONLY in the Custom civ folder (but again that all depends on what civ you want there), if its one of mine then this, but if not it might not.

What I do is extract the Mod into the Mods folder. Where I find it is here:

:/C/Program Files/ Firaxis Games/Civilization4/Beyond the Sword/Mods.

The "Beyond the Sword" part may vary. If you are not using any expansion, just go into the Mods folder under Civilization 4, and if you are using Warlords, go into its Mod folder.

Once I extract the files, I start Civ 4, click on "advanced", click on "load a mod" and then load it and start playing!

This may seem confusing, but I was once a troubled loader and I figured it out. So can you!

Ok so, I put the "whatever I want to call it" folder in the mods folder, then make the assests folder in that, then modules, the new civilization? After that do I load the mod to get that new file to appear about modular loading?

Heres how it goes:

Name of mod/Assets/Modules/Custom Civilizations/YOUR CIV , these have to be correct

Ok, maybe I'm missing something here. I get the order of those folders, but where do I put the folder that they all are in? Do i put it in like program files/2k Games/Sidmiers Civilization 4 Gold/Warlords/mods?

Programs Files/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Beyond the Sword/Mods/
Name of mod/Assets/Modules/Custom Civilizations/YOUR CIV

Same area as AfterWorld, Broken Star, etc.
hows that?

Ok, I'll try that, but one last question before I do. Should I tell the game to load the mod from the advanced menu or change the settings to load the mod?

ARRRRRRRRG!!!! I must have like a defective copy because that file didn't show up! I can not think of any way to get it to work! I did exactlly as you said, created those folders, put the files in them, loaded the mod, ran a game, exited the game, checked the mod's assets folder, and there was no XML file!

OK, now that you tried it, you have to go back into the MOD itself and next to the assets folder should be a new file, open it (should be the name of your mod) and make the modular loading from 0 to 1 and save it, then play as normal.

But that's the problem. That XML file you talk about never appears! I run Civ 4, go to advanced, load a mod, load the mod, go to play now, just do some random game, exit, then check the files, and no XML file.

Well its not actually a file, file, its a piece of paper looking thing with a (sort of) wheel looking on in. (It says Configuration settings.)

But like I said, there's nothing, I mean nothing, there besides the assets folder! Should I just make the file or something?

Can anyone help me with this problem? It's not just civ mods, but mods in general! The only mod I ever got to work was actual quotes and that was because I actually replaced the game's files! I tried that with Rise of Man v2(I backed up the origanals of course), and it worked perfectly until it starts a new game, the it shuts off and I can't start it again until I put back the origanal files.

Ok, I got the game to actually load the civ mod, however, None of the graphics for the mod show up! Any suggestions for this problem?

p.s: What do I do for a mod that's not a civilization(ex. Revolution mod)?

Well, it's actually your vampire civ, and the pirates civ. No changes to them.

Ok, it'll take a while for the stupid computer to compress it all. I just have 3 mods mainly. I really appriciate all the help. I'm also trying to get Civ gold, but the installation program claims it installed the files, but they aren't there! I seem to just have bad luck with computers and mods!

That's the zip file with my mods that aren't working correctly, but I think it's some configuration setting maybe, because all the graphics for new civs appear as pink squares, and when I try to start a new game with the civ, it crashes.

OK first off, you did not follow the instructions of post 2 & 7 above.

You put New Civilizations and must be Custom Civilizations.
Then when you first try to play, again stop the game after 1 turn (just pick any civ).
Then go back to the assets folder and there will be a new file name: Whatever you named the MOD (Configuation settings(the one with the wheel in it), open it and change modular loading from 0 to 1. Play again and the civs will now be loaded.

The same thing I've been saying all along: No configuration settings! I copied and pasted the Civ 4 BTS config settings into it with the modular XML loading set to 1, and that didn't do it. Maybe if I change the name of the config.

Ok, the game loads the mod fine. The game sees the civilizations, but the leader heads, flags, UUs, UBs, and flavor units all appear as pink squares. I started a random play now game. I founded a city, and a building it said I could build was the brewery(UB for Pirates). Once again, pink square. The "Sids Tips" said something like: TXT_BREWERY... When I clicked on it, game crashed. I'm really getting mad at the game here for not cooperating with me.

OK i didnt look before but you have one too many files saying "Vampires" only need one, thats the reason for the pink stuff. Same for pirates, ok.
Just make sure you dont delete the files inside the folder.

Should be: Modules/Custom Civilizations/Pirates

dang did i forget a txt file?

That finally did it! I was able to successfully use the pirate or vampire empires! Thanks a ton! But I have one last question: What do I do for game play mods like Rise of Mankind? That is really getting me mad.
