Sleek and dangerous.

Based on the civilian EMB-145 airliner, the P-99 is used by the Brazilian Air Force in the Maritime Patrol/Anti-Submarine Warfare role.

Presented to you by TopGun/Fire Fox. Enjoy! :D
againsttheflow Apr 30, 2008, 01:01 AM Lookin' good TopGun. :goodjob:
I fully expect anything that flies and shoots to either already be here on CFC or appear within a month or two of my finding it!
PETROBRAS Apr 30, 2008, 08:25 AM COOOL!!! I love it!!! A brazilian unit, YEAH!!!:goodjob:
''Força Aére Brasileira'', it's nice to see a bit of portuguese in this forum!!
Can you make a Embraer EMB-314 Super Tucano, too?

I did. Check my entry into the Unit Artists Library thread (Unit Graphics sub-forum).
againsttheflow Apr 30, 2008, 09:37 AM like I was saying... :mischief:
Mithadan Apr 30, 2008, 12:04 PM No way, they turned a civilian airliner into a submarine hunter?!?
Vuldacon Apr 30, 2008, 02:48 PM Wow... What a sweet aircraft full of Advanced Technology :goodjob:
Plenty of room with Up to Five work stations and even has a large rest area for the Crew. Extra Fuel tanks allow long patrol flights. Anti ship missiles as well as advanced torpedoes... a very capable and deadly aircraft for Maritime Patrol/Anti-Submarine Warfare.
Tank_Guy#3 Apr 30, 2008, 05:44 PM Sorry for my ignorance, but is that an AMRAAM (AIM-120) missile it's carrying?
Yes, it also looks awesome. Are they that hard pressed for aircraft in the Brazilian Air Force? Not saying that it's a bad idea if need they're needed though.
Gen. Rommel May 02, 2008, 09:34 PM What an excellent plane TG! Really interesting idea, and I must say, I hadn't heard of this use of the plane prior. I bet they could even find use for this in the next EFZI title (a form of escape for the survivors I would figure).
I had to get this off my chest though: Does anybody else question the complete inferiority of this plane were it to come down to a war between Brazil and another country? I mean, I'm sure it's adequate enough for peace times (and Brazil hasn't exactly seen much in terms of war lately ), but this thing would stand no chance against even the most outdated fighter jet. Therefore, its threat as a submarine hunter would be next to zilch against any country controlling even a remotely able air force. BTW, that's in no way criticism to your excellent model TG. :crazyeye:

That would be a fun thing to see. :D I think Brazil would do better if they could but they [obviously] have nothing else. The thing is many other S american countries have similarly lacking parts of their military so at least it's semi up to par in the region.

True, true.
Andreas68 May 06, 2008, 06:05 PM There's nothing unusual in using converted civilian planes for ASW warfare;
.) the Lockheed P-3 Orion - it's design is based on the civilian airliner Lockheed L-188 Electra.
.) the currently developed successor to the P-3 Orion in US service, the P-8 Poseidon - is based on a Boeing 737.
Planes like these are multi-purpose plane, used for maritime patrol, reconnaissance and ASW warfare - and this is only one of it's uses, not the primary one.
Planes like these do not need to be fast - they're faster than any ship or submarine anyway since they're airplanes - they do not need to be highly manoeuverable, and they do not need to have any chance against any outdated fighter at all.
What planes like these need, is endurance, long range, and plenty of space in the fuselage and cabin (to accomodate the tons of sensors and equipment needed to detect, track and fight submarines) and civilian airlines got all three of the mentioned abilities.
And to my knowledge planes like these are used in a defensive role, i.e. along one country's own shores, rather than in offensive roles, far away and in range of enemy air forces.
