I've been wondering for a long time how to make units. could someone please tell me?

You get yourself a modeling software - Blender is free - and learn to use it. Once you heve produced someting that looks like a unit you export it to the game format (.nif)... There are tutorials that cover exporting putting th stuff into the game in the tutorial section...
