View Full Version : Using Air Units
Hica May 03, 2008, 01:04 PM I just got this game the other day and love it. My only gripe is I can't figure out how to use bombers, fighters, missiles, etc. I click on the bomb button and the icon comes up to bomb a tile, and nothing happens when I click. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help.
Bigfoot3814 May 03, 2008, 01:55 PM Maybe it's out of range. Is the cursor green?
NeverSurrender May 03, 2008, 02:22 PM First it has to be in range, second you have two different attacking options...
Air bomb - For tile improvements, and for reducing city defences.
Air Strike - For damaging units.
Give the fighter intercept and it'll patrol the area to intercept enemy aircraft.
GarretSidzaka May 03, 2008, 03:47 PM you also have to be at war with whomever owns that terrain.

Not for scouting. Anyone can do that.
eewallace May 05, 2008, 03:55 PM As for missiles, I've only found ways to use them effectively, since they don't have much range. (1) Keep them in border cities and drop them on invaders. (2) Load 4 of them onto a missle ship and head for enemy territory in the ship.
djvandrake May 06, 2008, 12:34 PM For Hica's question: If you're at war, then choose the icon for either bomb or airstrike, then position your cursor over the tile you want to hit. If it's in range or the unit is eligible to be attacked then it should turn green and you can execute the mission. If an enemy unit has been damaged to below the minimum level (80-85%) then you cannot attack it again and the cursor will remain grey. This isn't very realisitc either, but the way the game is set up. To conduct a recon mission, then click on the icon that has binoculars, and then choose a tile for your air unit to recon. It will show you everything in and around that tile.
One thing I find rather dissapointing is that my air units can't sink enemy ships, yet the invading destroyers can shoot down my bombers? Who thought that was a good idea?
It would be far more realistic if air units could destroy naval units.
I would also like to have the option to attack an approaching unit during the recon mission. When my bomber goes out for a look see and finds an approaching fleet, it should wake up and give me the option to attack if the enemy unit is in range.
Bushface May 06, 2008, 05:29 PM Another thought on recon - a plane sent on recon can't attack, so has no bomb load: hence, load more fuel and extend the range.

If they would give at least the repeatable recon, it would be a great progress.
