Just wondering how do people get their lvl 6 unit for west point? I like to settle my generals so attaching isn't an option. Is there a good era for getting the exp quickly? Like axemen or maces etc?

View Full Version : Best way to get lvl 6 unit without great general? Shekwan May 05, 2008, 11:25 AM Just wondering how do people get their lvl 6 unit for west point? AfterShafter May 05, 2008, 11:51 AM The way of getting a level 6 unit that I've had the most success with is taking a unit and fighting a lot of battles with it. Seriously, there aren't any "tricks" that aren't kind of obvious. Think of how you get experience (buildings, generals, combat) and do lots of them. Keeping the unit alive is important, so don't risk it unnecessarily. Fighting a fair bit is a necessity. Uh... That's it? Molybdeus May 05, 2008, 11:59 AM Naval units get x2 XP. If you get a more advanced naval unit (like Trireme vs. Galleys or Frigate vs. Caravels and Galleys) you can quickly rack up a lot of XP. Supr49er May 05, 2008, 12:03 PM Privateers. Build them and hit anything that sails. Keep some in your home waters to get the GG bonus (with Great Wall) - +100% GG emergence with IMP leader. jlindy May 05, 2008, 01:19 PM Privateers are a great way to get there, but so is selecting the raging barbarians option. It'll give you plenty of fodder for toughening up units. Supr49er May 05, 2008, 01:28 PM Privateers are a great way to get there, but so is selecting the raging barbarians option. It'll give you plenty of fodder for toughening up units. But I don't think defeating Barbarians themselves give you GG points, just XP. What I love about Privateers is that you can rack up GG points while at peace. wingsoverithaca May 05, 2008, 02:40 PM besides, XP gained from barbarians is capped at 10xp. the quickest way is to rush and early war. Priah May 05, 2008, 02:46 PM Theres no real "trick's" persay. Sometimes calvarly units can get pretty high in exp, especially if you use an early great general to get a super medic and put leadership on it, by the time you get west point you should probably be level 6. Otherwise, your only real option is to use a great general. jray May 05, 2008, 03:12 PM Naval units get x2 XP. If you get a more advanced naval unit (like Trireme vs. Galleys or Frigate vs. Caravels and Galleys) you can quickly rack up a lot of XP. Are you using a mod? That's not true in core BTS. My suggestion is to fight your first war trying to get a unit to lvl 6. If you get close, then make up the difference with Privateers. If not, then just bite the bullet and attach that first GG to a unit. To get loads more GG points, build the Great Wall (which actually offers +200% GG points instead of +100% due to a bug that still hasn't been fixed) and try to goad rivals into invading you in your territory. Myself, I always attach that first unit and make a Super Medic. It's freakin' amazing, much better than even several settled GG's. Tlalynet May 05, 2008, 03:38 PM Pin down a weak AI and leave them with one junk city + archers untill you get tribuchet. Stack about 3 tribs with a medic unit and just let the tribs nail the archers till they get enough XP. This is even easier with cannons. Catapults can do it too but die much more often. That would be the easy way to get West Point without sacrifising any GG's oranges May 05, 2008, 03:58 PM I've found out that removing the XP limit when upgrading units helps ;) Onagan May 05, 2008, 04:37 PM I mostly use Privateers, as I start seldom a early war joncnunn May 05, 2008, 06:21 PM With a Great General, a war is required, but even then I'll get a free Great General from the war before any of my units naturally reach level 6. Bob-san May 05, 2008, 07:04 PM Stack of privateers is pretty good--get 10 or so if you can afford it--they'll be primarily to pillage any ships entering your territory. They also help beef up your spy defenses--if you start sinking caravels carrying spies, they have a harder time spying. Usually it's one large stack of privateers, and use a few non-promoted to damage them and then go for at least one kill with the experienced privateer. Don't give that privateer Combat promotions if you don't have to--I would think that Drill promotions will come in more handy, and those combat promotions will help in stack defense. Willem May 05, 2008, 07:57 PM Privateers are a great way to get there, but so is selecting the raging barbarians option. It'll give you plenty of fodder for toughening up units. You don't get Great General points from Barbs. Willem May 05, 2008, 07:59 PM With a Great General, a war is required. No it's not. You can get a Great General from your Privateers even during peacetime. Molybdeus May 05, 2008, 09:01 PM Are you using a mod? That's not true in core BTS. Hmmm. I've always gotten at least 2xp in combat. I guess I just assumed it meant you got double XP. Polobo May 05, 2008, 09:21 PM How many experience do you get if (full health) a spearman beats a tank? Early on taking bigger risks with your attacks 50-60% with many units a few times and then nurse those that survive 2 or 3 battles (or more, until you only have a couple of units with high XP) jray May 06, 2008, 02:49 PM Hmmm. I've always gotten at least 2xp in combat. I guess I just assumed it meant you got double XP. Well, unpromoted Privateer vs. Caravel is 99.1% odds, which may seem like it should be only 1xp, but it's the best possible case of 2xp, having a Str ratio of exactly 2:1. Maybe that's why it seems like double xp :). Wodan May 06, 2008, 03:40 PM Siege units allow you to keep using an outdated unit (so that you don't have to upgrade it to win battles). That is how you get lvl 6. Wodan sabo May 07, 2008, 05:49 PM Check this guy out (of course I used a GG on this one) but he's at level 10 ready to move to 11 and will probably get to 12 or 13 by the end of the game. I'm going to move him along to heal tanks when I get them. :) He started as an Elephant and my next promo for him will be blitz. r_rolo1 May 07, 2008, 07:03 PM The cheesy way: - Get a catapult stack - Go to a AI city ( beaten to death one works better ) -Attack it after stripping it of defenses.... archers will get easily to a very safe spot. - Catapults will retreat, gaining 1 XP - Repeat 26 times Works better in Marathon speed slightly less cheesy way - Get Astro + Chemistry far before your oponent - Make teams of 4 privateers - Send them to the coast of your foe and wait fro the certain trirreme or caravel spam - Promote one through the Medic line and the others via Drill ( helps a lot against lots of inferior units ). Never let one privateer alone. |
