The Luftwaffe is indeed Happy to have these! :goodjob:
Wonderful Medium Bomber that also later served as a supply plane and various other ways.
The Heinkel He 111 was originally designed as a civil airliner for Lufthansa but proved to be of far greater importance in the military with many design variations.

The He 111H-3 was a 4 or 5 seat Medium Bomber that introduced armour protection. Weight: Empty 17,000 lbs. and Loaded 30,865 lbs. It had a service altitude of 25,590 feet, Two 1,200 Hoursepower liquid cooled inverted V-12 engines with a range of 745 miles (loaded) and speed of 205 mph (loaded). The He 111H-3 had a Bombload of Up to 4,410 lbs. and was armed with Five 7.92mm MG 15 machine guns with another optional 7.92mm MG 15 machine gun inside the nose and a 7.92mm MG 17 machine gun in the extreme tail.

From what I have researched wasn't the He-111 designed as a military aircraft and used as a civilian aircraft in order to offset the limitations of the Versailles Treaty? That is until of course Hitler decided to no longer follow it.

When I saw "Heinkel" in the thread title, I was hoping it was the 111 -- and it was! I once got to sit in one of these. It was cool.

BadKharma... yes the Heinkel He-111 was intended as a Medium Bomber by the Luftwaffe when the Luftwaffe was kept secret after WWI. The He-111 was presented to the world as a civilian aircraft in order to keep its real intention secret. Despite civilian variations that were presented, the Luftwaffe had plans for its use as a Medium Bomber from the start.
That said, it was Ernst Heinkel who originally wanted to build the worlds Fastest passenger plane at the start of the 1930s who trusted the Günter brothers to develop it.

In 1932, The Heinkel He 70 was the first faster aircraft they developed and the Luftwaffe then gained interest in the designs developed by the Heinkel & Günter brothers team. This interest was the desire for a fast Medium Bomber by the Luftwaffe as they secretly rearmed...the aircraft was then presented as a civilian passenger plane in order to keep the secret intention of the Luftwaffe to develop and use the aircraft as a Medium Bomber.

The Point is that the original intent that began the design of this aircraft was for a worlds fastest passenger plane by Ernst Heinkel... it was the Luftwaffe that brought about the changed intent and development of this aircraft as a Medium Bomber.

I do not doubt that Ernst Heinkel wanted to create a faster aircraft. That He-70 is a very interesting looking aircraft.

Yes, the He 70 is very cool. It was used by (Nationalist/Falange) Spain and by Hungary as a light bomber and recon aircraft and the Luftwaffe used some as a fast liaison aircraft, especially on the Eastern Front. Shame we don't have a decent model as of now...
