Hello,

I'm pretty new to these boards, I mostly read the strategy guides and all, though I've been following this site since Civ2 and like it a lot.

Since I'm pretty addicted to multi-player gaming experience, I wanted to try out the PBEM with some other newish players (I started Civ4 not long ago). My hectic schedules and online activities kinda prevent other types of MP.

So I'm looking to start a team game with one or two players to see a bit how it goes. So if you haven't done PBEMs and want to discover them, let's discover it together :)

I can play on a daily basis, so I should be able to do between 7 and 12 turns per weeks (vacations excluded)
I have msn, icq, aim if you want to contact me. And I read my e-mails all day and evening long.
You can of course PM me here aswell.

I was thinking of a deity game with raging barbarians, maps and number of enemy civs to be determined. Human players being in the same team.
Regular game (though I have BtS and Warlord)

On a side note, I hope I didn't break any forum rules :p

Just wanted to add... I might make a Pitboss server if people show more interest for that :)
I have a computer to run it and I don't use my connection as much as I used to anyway ;)

Just trying to find out if the problems of lost bandwidth are solved. (when someone disconnects improperly)

i'll be happy to join you guys. but this won't be my first PBEM game, it will be my second. (my first being a game i'm playing now i'm on the 3rd move :) ) normaly people say some things about game setting when trying to set up a new game. speed, age, things like that. are we doing random leaders?

p.s. i'll send my email address in a PM

Hello mate, yes, indeed, I've seen that in other threads. Though I'm totally open on this one, I'll send you a proposal through mail and we'll discuss it.

I was thinking of moving to a Pitboss game, didn't realised what it is and now have a server set up and it's really nice :)

Way easier than having to mail the latest version to the next player.

Which version of Civ are you using? Myself I got the 1.7.4 (from what the file says)

Hi, i'd like playing a PBEM too. I'm playing one already and I can handle one more.

I prefer a BTS game at prince/monarch level. I think that 4 to 6 players is ideal for not waiting too much for emails.

I wait for your answers.

Hello, currently I'm a bit overworked, so I have to slow down on my online/gaming activities. But I'll let you know if that changes.
Though I opted for Pitboss games now as it is the easier to handle/setup as people just need to connect and if they don't, the turns keep ticking for the others.
It has some drawbacks though, but nothing's perfect :)

I'd be interested in a vanilla pbem game, but i also am not sure about playing on deity... also I'd like to do first game where human players team against the AI.

If you have room for another player, email me: dconk199@yahoo.com

I'd be up for one. It'd be my first multiplayer game, although I've been playing against the AI for a while now. I'll send my email in a PM

sarge, may day, white wolf and elros
I've had great success so far with my first pbem game so I'm going to start another
vanilla or warlords only( no BTS yet)
It'll be 2 or 3 games simultaneously, 5 human / 5 AI
Probably Noble level, all other options to be discussed once roster is full
I'll PM each to see if you're interested

There are more people wishing to try out than I'd have thought :)
Well, I've contacted some of you. At the moment I doubt I can involve in more than one game though.

Anyone would be up for a succession game?
It would be faster to play and would allow us to learn from each others.
Beware though, I like to learn by mistakes

Well, I guess I'm a bit late, but I'm interested. I've only been in two half-games so far, so that's sort of noobish, I guess.

Hey guys... I'm new to this multiplayer thing. Can anyone give me a quick run down on how PBEM works and what is Pitboss?

I need to learn now because I am doing research study on personality of Civ players and business students. Basically I'll get a bunch of people playing and have them fill out an online survey. I'll need the game results with all the stats.

Thanks a bunch!

PBEM is played like a regular email game. You play your turn then send the mail to the next player in queue.

Pitboss is a "server" that runs 24h/24 where everyone needs to connect and play their turn, rather than send the save file to each person.
It allows people to play simultaneously without and need to follow a turn order.
You can also set the pitboss server so it closes the turn after X hours even if not all player did play. The queued orders of the player are executed but that's all.

Hope it helped.

Hey all, longtime Civ fan here and looking forward to a 1.74 plain vanilla CIV4 game by email. Never done one before, and I think email would be cool. East coast USA, and I'll make my moves in the evening, home nearly every night. contact me if you like...

I'm absolutely fiending for a PBEM game:crazyeye:

Are there of you still floating around that haven't gotten one going yet and are still interested in doing so?

DNK
Nov 12, 2008, 10:32 PM
Well, I have two going now, but I'm up for a third - it just needs to be vanilla.

lifecry
Nov 12, 2008, 10:38 PM
cool with me.
do you have a preferred number of players/favorite civ/ map, etc?
I'm pretty flexible.

DNK
Nov 13, 2008, 03:47 PM
4 players - much more would take forever.
Civ - I'm fond of Elizabeth now, since I'm trying to get the hybrid strat down.
Map - fractal, although I'm very open on that one.

Any room for one more?

lifecry
Nov 13, 2008, 08:37 PM
heck, yeah.
welcome :-)
I'd even be down with doing it with just the 3 of us.

As for maps, I'd like an Archipelago-ish, island-y map. But I'm not gonna be hard nosed about it. :crazyeye:

As for civs, I'd like to rock Ragnar or Hannibal, methinks.

Those are BtS leaders, DNK plays Vanilla which has the standart leaders :)

DNK
Nov 14, 2008, 12:03 AM
Well, don't choose based on what I'm running.

Tyrghen
Nov 14, 2008, 12:42 AM
Hmm, I thought you needed Vanilla only :)

BtS has some good points though, but myself I stick to Vanilla for now until I get a better grip of some aspects of the game. Since BtS adds a whole new layer of things. Vassals, colonies (with prohibitive costs of distant towns) and that kind of things.

DNK
Nov 14, 2008, 10:04 PM
Well, I'm personally only running vanilla, yes.

I've decided to just wait it out for the next release.
