Hey everyone! I've been reading through the various articles and forums etc. Just started playing the game a week ago. Anyways I just won my first cultural victory on Noble but I have a (dumb) question.

I know there are various benefits for resources (health and happiness) but for the life of me I can't figure out how the +1food or +1production factors in. When you mouse over them in a city you see the +1food/commerce/production bonus on the pop up but I added up the worked tiles and noticed that the +1 isn't factored in.

i.e. my cities are all connected via roads/rivers and I have a cow somewhere. Let's say outside my BFC. It should give me +1 food once I've put a pasture on it and connected to my network corrent? Well I guess not since it doesn't...

Is this just the way it's supposed to be?

No, the food and production are added on the tile, not to the any city.
If u don't have citizen work on that tile (city management screen), u didn't enjoy that benefit literally.

anything outside culture boundary will not be counted for health/happiness factor too.

BFC? what is that ? ~_~''

You have to work the tile to get the bonus.

You see that little building over the tile? Or the white circle in the city selection screen? T hat means the tile is being worked.

..If that's your question.

You should get the health/happiness bonuses regardless of if the tile is being actively worked. For the commerce, production, and food benefits of improving a tile, those are only active if the tile is being worked.

If you are talking about the tip that comes up when you mouse over your list of resources on the right hand side of the city screen, YES you are correct, the hammers/food mentioned in the tip do not benefit you. I find it weird, too.

I have often wondered what it would be like if those resources were added to every (connected) city. For a large, mature empire, every city would be pretty decent on founding.

This is exactly what I was talking about. Thanks to everyone for your info! It really hasn't impacted me, I was more curious than anything else.

Big Fat Cross. The tiles a city can work - it looks like a cross in the city screen, hence the name.

You will only get a health/happy bonus. If a resource has +1 hammer in the box, it does not add a hammer. It's just to denote that it is a strategic resource.

It denotes how many hammers this recource adds to the yield of the plot where it is situated.
