Hey, has anybody played a game from this series? Should I play one? I want to, but currently I'm only interested in Dawn of Sorrow for the DS. Though if I get a PS3, then I would want to get Symphony of the Night via PSN as well.

I'm surprised you wouldn't just look at a review site, swien, but Portrait of Ruin is supposed to be good. And it's for DS so you wouldn't have to get any new systems.

It's very good.

The classic versions are the best. You have a Wii, right? When they come on the Virtual Console, get them. They're under the NES section.

Played the NES version, great game.

That fire whip is the best thing in the world.

I do reccomend it even though its a old game.

Why didn't you just go to one of the review sites and look at the ranking? Isn't that your measurement for whether a game sucks or not?

Well, I wanted to know what your opinions were on the series.

My guess is that most of the people here have played a Castlevania game - it's a very long-running and popular series, and deservedly so. If you want to take your gaming hobby seriously, it's one of those franchises you need to have some familiarity with.

Personally, I have Super Castlevania IV for the Super NES, and I'd highly recommend it if you can get a copy. I'd assume it would be available on the Wii VC. Symphony of the Night for the PlayStation (PS1) seems to be the most highly regarded installment, though I haven't played it personally. I can't comment on the newer games, though.

Man those old ones were hard, you had to jump just right. But I guess jumping in games has always been one of the hardest things. I like the one where you could play as multiple people like the hunchback guy. I think that was the second one.
