PrinceScamp May 15, 2008, 02:08 AM I'd try the computer section of the forum myself... seems like you might be missing a .dll but I don't really know for sure. Methos May 15, 2008, 02:03 PM I'd try the computer section of the forum myself... Agreed and moved. Methos May 15, 2008, 02:08 PM Did some googling and you're not the only one having this trouble. Bounced around until I came upon the article "Resolve the Windows installation error 0x80040707 (http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-5252325.html)". Methos May 15, 2008, 02:14 PM Here's someone's advice on another forum, you can read the post here (http://www.mcse.ms/archive/index.php/t-554468.html). It's rather involved, so I suggest trying the article from the previous post first. Marsden May 15, 2008, 02:14 PM Thank you Methos. I honestly didn't know where the computer part of the forum was  so thanks for moving it, and thanks PrinceScamp for suggesting it. Methos May 15, 2008, 02:17 PM Let us know if the above doesn't work, so someone here with more technical skills can help you. Marsden May 16, 2008, 06:28 AM Wow, I tried those and it's still not working. I think it just won't work with xp. GoodGame May 16, 2008, 08:22 AM Can you type the text of the error message, as I can't make it out in the OP. Sounds like it claims there is a .DLL error/corruption. Might need a fresh copy of the installation at the least. Methos May 16, 2008, 08:24 AM Can you type the text of the error message, as I can't make it out in the OP. Error Number: 0x80040707 Description: Dll function call crashed: chkreq.SetupWindow Setup will now terminate. Marsden May 16, 2008, 08:30 AM It says: Error Number 0x80040707 Description: Dll function call crashed: chkregs.setup window I was trying to install it from a new cd when this happened but I had the very same error on an old cd which at the time I assumed was from cd damage until I got the new one and got the same exact error. warpus May 16, 2008, 11:54 AM Uhm this is the first page that comes up in google http://www.xrite.com/product_overview.aspx?ID=653&Action=support&SupportID=3371 (http://http://www.xrite.com/product_overview.aspx?ID=653&Action=support&SupportID=3371) I am guessing that you've already investigated this, though. I appreciate the help, but I get that page cannot be displayed. :( GoodGame May 16, 2008, 12:52 PM I did a search using "chkregs.setup". The only advice I saw was to get a fresh copy, or try the installation in Windows Safe mode. Searching the exact error code, I got this suggestion: Solution If you're getting this error message as part of an installation or upgrade routine, here's one of the easiest ways to circumvent the problem: 1. Go to the directory that holds the file for launching the installation (for example, Setup.exe). 2. Right-click on the installation file and select Run As. 3. Uncheck the box that says Protect My Computer And Data From Unauthorized Activity, and click OK. Alternatively, if you're running this installation from a CD, you may need to simply clean the CD and try the installation again. Another possibility for resolving this error is to run Windows Update on the system before running the installation routine. If none of those solutions work, try these two links, which provide additional information on the error and ways to overcome it: InstallShield: Unhandled Exception 0x80040707 Installation problems with Macromedia Cold Fusion/InstallShield 6.22 If that doesn't work it says: http://knowledge.macrovision.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=Q108167&sliceId=1 |
