You wondered why you haven't heard of this castle. You hesitated on whether or not you should go. This lady sound like a nutjob. Still, you could use the hundred thousand dollars. Your dream holiday, dream car and dream house won't pay for itself. On the day of the appointment you decided to go. You grab your favourite coat, start the car, and head for the mountains just outside of town, where the castle is located.

Meanwhile, in the castle, Elizabeth Andrews smiled. An evil smile. For she knew the truth. She knew she had invited more than one detective to her castle tonight. She knew that they would regret their decision to come. She knew that her name is not Elizabeth Andrews...

The rules!

- Unlimited players, the more the better.
- Night will last 24 hours.
- At night, the mafia send in their kill to the GM (me) (give explanation for the clue as well)
- Day will last for 48 hours.
- During the day, everybody will vote for people to lynch.
- Bold your vote. You get as many votes as there are mafia remaining.
- Mafias: each of you have the option of sending a false clue only once during the game. All other clues must be true.

Status: Game Over
Mafia defeated!

Key:
player - dead, innocent
player - dead, mafia

The Castle of Death...

The detective Neverwonagame3, having gained fame for solving the mystery of the Spamingrad murders, got there first. To his surprise, however, another detective also arrived at the same time. He was not amused. Neither was dot.

"I thought I was special!" cried Neverwon. Dot ignored him. However, dot sensed that not all is as it seemed. The gates were locked, even though it was 6.00pm. There's no sign of anyone else in sight. Well apart from Neverwon, that is.

Not for long. Soon, many other detectives began to arrive.

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m51/Grenadier_539/BlueRoom1.jpg

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m51/Grenadier_539/BlueRoom2.jpg

"It's huge!" said e350tb. With him were gandhi "Kiddo" rules, azzaman333, and former arms-dealer turned private-eye and sometime CIA agent Rheinmetall. The famous young detective, obliterate, was driving. Heeding Narz's constant nagging about the carbon footprint of the automobile, they decided to car pool. Others didn't care so much about the environment: choxorn arrived by Banshee, Empiremaker by airship, and Kol.7 drove a Jaguar. Soon Dr. Izipo, CivCube, D'Artagnan59, Catharsis, and Stuck_in_Pi arrived, the last two being famous for using complex mathematics to solve cases.

Stylesrj, who is pursuing a career in stand up comedy with mixed successes arrived in a police van, having been apprehended several hours earlier by Methos and discovered they were going to the same place. LightFang also came along, having just had a dentist appointment. Backward Logic arrived in a Tesla Tank, only to be fined by Methos for unlawfully possessing a Weapon of Mass Destruction. Tasslehoff teleported himself to the castle. goou, Abgar and Rik Meleet are late comers. It is now almost 6.30 and the gates haven't opened yet.

Rik was suspicious. "This is really late. And why are there so many detectives here? Don't say we've all got that letter."
"We did." said everyone.
"Screw this.", said azzaman333 "A million dollars or not, I'm not going to be bothered waiting for God knows how long. I'm off to play some Civ"

Suddenly, the castle gates opened.

The gates of Castle Civfanatizar is now wide open. It opened to a courtyard, and at the end of the courtyard was a giant pile of gold. It looked like the jaws of the hell tempting the greedy and sinful detectives.

The detectives rushed in before you could say "millionaire".

But then, after all the detectives were inside, the gates snapped shut. At that moment, a hidden PA speaker crackled into life.

"Welcome, detectives, to the Castle Civfanatizar. The Castle that would be your tomb!"

Rheinmetall shook his head. "I knew there was catch somewhere."

"Detectives, I sent you the letters. But my name is not Elizabeth Andrews. I did indeed just brought this castle and I thought it would be fun to celebrate by slaughtering a few of you [deleted to comply with the forum rules] here tonight. Too often have my diabolical plans been thwarted by the likes of you."

"Now I see you are not as smart as people give you credit for. Here's what's going to happen: you are locked inside this castle. You can't escape, you can't call for help, you can't anything. Three of the detectives I invited tonight are in fact experienced assassins hired by myself to kill you people. They will kill you slowly one by one. My friends and I will be watching the drama unfolding from a safe distance via live satellite video feed. Please be happy in the knowledge that your undignified and painful deaths will serve as entertainment for someone else. Before I go, any last requests?"

"Hand on a minute. Maybe you want to kill us all because you're just stressed. I know how it can grind you down," said Stylesrj. "What you need is a little laughter in your life. Have you heard the one about the cat and the bar?--"

"Farewell, my detectives."

The detectives stood in stunned silence.

At last someone spoke. "At least we're rich".

"That b**** is bluffing." said Methos. "She wanted us to torture and kill each other in paranoid desperation. We can't give her that. We can't let the terrorists win! I know everyone here well and I know none are part of any mafia organisation or anything. Tell ya what, let's check out this castle. See what other goodies we can find, and we'll look for an exit as well."

And the group split up. Everyone wanted to believe Methos. But their detective instincts tell them danger is near...

OOC: Do we need a deux ex machina to thwart this scheme?

Neverwonagame trudged through the castle, thinking about the situation he was in. He had been a bit unwell- or why else take the insane desicsion to split up? Now what mattered was getting everybody back together- that would provide at least temporary saftey.

But first, he had an idea. He wasn't sure how through their preparations were- a potential critical weakness existed. With the aid of a ladder, he calculated he would be able to climb over the gate.

Neverwonagame thought for a second, and planted a flag in the ground. "If I'm lucky, I can persuade the others to camp here. A watch of eight per night, and we should be safe from any mafia..."

Neverwonagame3
May 22, 2008, 02:48 PM
"Dot!" "Ghandi!" "Choxorn!"

Neverwonagame started making some cries, calling out names as he remembered them. He was a little worried- if he went to sleep, somebody might kill him when he was. It would be a very vulrnable posistion. So he brought himself to stay awake, patrolling as he waited for somebody to hear him.

Although the others were busy looking for treasure, choxorn knew that it would be hard to find, and it would be a good idea to stake claim to a room first. He ended up accomplishing both at once: He found a large room with a very comfortable and large bed, a fireplace, a table and some chairs, a few candles, and, for whatever reason, a microwave oven. Also in the room was some of the castle's riches: A few impressive gold crowns and a sceptre. He imagined this room was once inhabited by a king.

"Suckers, I got the best room!" :mwaha:

He placed a sign on the door that said "This is room is choxorn's, so you all can find a suckier room. Nya."

Qoou heard voices. They were getting closer to him. He had only recently become a detective and was not used to this. The voices were even louder now. They'd surely find him, hiding behind that bush! He saw the outlines of their bodies. One of them looked as if he was carrying a gun. As they were passing by his bush, he jumped out screaming and tackled the armed figure. In the ensuing confusion, the two men managed to pin him down. "Go ahead and kill me you corrupt sons-of-b****es!," he shouted at the top of his lungs hoping someone would come to the rescue. Neverwon and dot laughed, helped him up, and explained what they were doing to him. He followed them, embarrassed but knowing that he was safe for the moment.

Hey qoou and Never, I ain't goin' to lead. I mean, with all due respect, I was early at the castle, true, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I'm a pro. So let's put our thoughts together. What do we need?

A room that's lockable.
Fresh water, best a tab in the room or sth like that.
2nd or 3rd floor. We don't want someone coming in thru the window, do we? Windows facing to the outside, not into the castle.
A fireplace and some wood (furniture?) would be nice.
... ?
Ah, what the heck, let's go on into the castle. Maybe we find some shelter in one of the towers? --- But hold on, where's the Kiddo? Shall we wait for him?

Neverwonagame3
May 23, 2008, 07:10 AM
"I say we explicitly call for Kiddo as we go, and go to where he is if we find out. But otherwise, we don't explicitly search for him more then anybody else. We should remain in sight of each other.

Others will have made temporary bases- any one individual we come across is more likely detective then assasin, so I propose we base if permission is granted on the first individual's base we find.

I nominate qoou as temporary Group Leader to carry out plans along the lines of what dot and me have suggested."

Thank you for granting me this honor.

Ah, I'd say let's go find the Kiddo's room.

dot yells for gandhi, hoping he'd poke his head out to hear the calling.

With all due respect sir, I think making more noise will only attract the killers. If they have weapons, which they probably do, even the three of us won't stand a chance. I suggest that we head for the castle, shout for Kiddo a couple of times once we enter, and then stay quiet and look for a room hoping that the assasins don't figure out which room we're staying the night in. A good idea would be to turn on the lights in about half the rooms we pass by but dislike. Once we find an appropiate room, we should each take ~3.5 hour guard shifts and sleep for the other 7 hours. I volunteer for the second guard shift since getting an unintrerrupted 7 hours of sleep is not as important to me as it is to more famous detectives like yourselves.

Why does Gandhi sleep so easily? Doesn't he know there are killers around? Perhaps he is sure he won't be killed since he is a killer himself! And he's catching up on some sleep so he can strike later when we are all asleep ...
Neverwonagame plants a flag outside for us to gather round. Is he trying to lure us into the garden where it is dark so he can strike at us more easily ?
Backwards Logic left his tank outside the castle. Perhaps he wanted to be sure that it couldn't be used against him by his victims?
And why is Stylesrj distracting us with singing? So the other 2 killers can do their thing undisturbed? It is not unlikely the killers will cooperate...
Rik notices Tasslehoff preparing spells. Voodoo spells? Witchcraft? What if the spells work and those can kill?
Dot is inviting Never into his room. I bet Never will be dead tomorrow. Luckily Dot didn't see me noticing this...
Why is Choxorn making sure he has a room for himself? So he can sneak out and kill us at night?
Lightfang is sharpening his teeth? Dracula and Jaws in the James Bond movies killed quiet a few guys with their teeth. If we find a body that has been bitten to death we'll know who did it. Or could it be a distraction?
Why did qoou behave so amateuristically? Perhaps he's not really a detective, but a killer disguised as a detective....
Azza wants to call a pizza? I bet that'll be a pizza-with-concealed-weapon. Better keep an eye on him...
Methos wants to know whether there is a basement? Why would he be interested in a desolate area of the castle? To hide bodies?
obliterate went to sleep just as easily as Gandhi. That can only mean they know they won't be killed and that can only mean 1 thing ....
CivCube called "aha" ? And there hasn't even been a murder yet ? He must be disracting us and giving us falls leads ...

OOC:

"well, there is a surprising lack of women around here..."

Suddenly his gaze rests on LightFang. He flicks away his cigarette in a swift and precise gesture, setting on fire a nearby bush.

choxorn moved around the room, holding is cell phone around in places, trying to get a signal.

"Grr... this is the 5th room I've tried. Why can't I get a signal?"

Then, suddenly he noticed something. He was getting something in the way of a weak signal. It was, unfortunately, far too weak to call anyone. He suddenly thought of something...

"Yes, that must be right. I'll go check other places in the Castle to see if I can get weak signals anywhere else..."

As he checked other places, his theory was proved correct.

"That's it! Somewhere, near the center of the castle, something is jamming all radio waves. Maybe if I can find it and get rid of it, I can call someone who can get us out of this mess!"

As he neared the place he thought the jammer was probably around, he heard something. Was that... karaoke?

If it was, the singer was not the best singer in the world.

"Okay, the jammer should be somewhere in one of these 4 rooms..."

And so, choxorn checked each room. The first room turned out to be a broom closet with almost nothing in it. The second was totally empty, with the exception of an oddly shaped crystal, which obviously wasn't jamming anything. The third contained a few paintings and tapestries, and none of them were hiding anything.

"Okay, let's try door #4!"

"Hey, what'd ya do that for? You can't just kick open random doors!"

It turned out to be the room occupied by Stylesrj.

"Sorry, I think there's something around here that's jamming radio waves, meaning my cell phone won't work. Could you help me look around in here a little?"

And so choxorn and Stylesrj looked around through the room, finding nothing. The only things in Stylesrj's room were a bed and a karaoke machine.

"Impossible! The jammer should be right in one of these rooms, so why isn't it here?"

"Who knows? Maybe the jammer's in a wall or something. Can you let me get back to my karaoke now?"

"Can you wait 5 minutes for me to get out of earshot? I don't like karaoke."

"Oh, alright."

choxorn returned to his room, wondering where the jammer was and wanting answers...

Thank you for granting me this honor.

I still advocate safety in numbers. If the whole group sleeps together and at least eight people are awake at a time, the asssasins, even in the unlikely event they are three of those people, will have serious trouble.

If we picked an apparent detective at random and had them join a group, we would probably pick an innocent. Therefore any one would give us greater saftey.

I will follow qoou's plan for now, but when morning comes we should gather everybody together.

"Can we stop here?" asked Neverwonagame. The room was clearly unsuitable for a place to sleep- due to the house geography, it was probably the most snipable place in the house.

Aware of this, Neverwonagame rushed in, and grabbed a paper&pencil, rushing out again before the assasins tried it.

"A map could be an advantage."

As Qoou, Dot, and Neverwon began the implementation of qoou's plan, Neverwon started mapping the castle. This could be useful.

"O.K- we just passed Sniper's Paradise, and have reached the stairs to the third floor. I think I saw somebody tracking us, but I can't be certain about that."

As they kept going, Neverwon continued, more to himself then to his team-mates.

"Ah- the strategic balcony to Sniper's Paradise. What purpose this served I have no idea. Perhaps this place was strategically set out?"

Neverwon began to worry- there was a chance the assasins knew the lie of the land and had strategic advantages they didn't.

"I estimate from what I saw that this castle has about seven floors. From an assasin's perspective, the best option is obviously to attack at night. To counter that, I propose we get somebody to work with us that only we know works with us as a sniper in case of attack. If the knowledge leaks, then we have narrowed down the assasins. If it doesn't, we have narrowed down the assasins."

Neverwon's attention turned off his map, as he started making elaborate plans for what to do in the event of each possible combination of assasins. Not realising the true extent of such a task, he scribbled away, spoiling his map...

I shot a plane down while indoors? Hmm, let's see...

Layout of the "Magic Bullet" Rube Goldberg Machine:
Stylesrj fires gun.
Bullet goes through thin wooden roof.
Bullet hits a metal plate, where it ricochets off and lands into a carefully placed bouncing ball.
Ball rolls down the stairs, bounces and hits a piece of string dangling over it.
String falls and the nearby cat gets up to go play with it.
The pressure of the cat leaving makes the sea-saw rise, sending a bowling ball rolling down a track
The bowling ball hits a pressure plate which lights up some hidden explosives below the castle.
The explosions send a cage with a dove flying, but also sends a piece of cheese flying.
The mouse goes out to grab the cheese, and it leaving releases pressure on another pressure plate.
The plate causes a blade to go down and slice open the dove cage.
The dove flies out and eats a nearby seed bell.
The seed bell is finished and it means less weight on a helium balloon.
The balloon has a gun attached to the bottom of it. When it reaches the height of the plane, it fires the gun.
The gun fires, shooting down the plane.

Neverwon and his group continued towards their planned resting place. On the way, they discovered another Sniper's Paradise. But this one was a bit diffrent. It was a modified keep.

"Hmm... what could this be?" asked Neverwon. It was probably a customisation to make things more interesting or easier. A series of glass panels from room to room, from the top floor to the dungeons. Neverwon noticed Stylesrj and Choxorn below. Large parts of glass had been smashed and fallen, though fortunately neither had been hit.

"Hey guys!" said Neverwon, to the groups both above and below. He prepared to shout loudly, particularly for the benefit of those below. "ANY ONE INDIVIDUAL IS PROBABLY NOT ASSASIN. THEREFORE LARGER GROUP BETTER. SAFTEY IN NUMBERS."

He then turned to dot and qoou. "How about we rendevous with them? Any one individual is likely not assasin, and if everybody is together in a single group the assasins will have a hard time. If everybody sleeps together with 3.5 hour shifts of eight (and one of seven), we can make life hard for the assasins. As long as every individual was careful, it was unlikely an assasin could kill without getting recognised or at least significantly narrowed down."

Neverwon waited for a response.

Neverwon sighed. It seems those people below were not willing to join. Was this because they were assasins?

He turned to his group and sighed. "They don't seem to want to join us. With fewer people, we may have to change plans."

It was only a matter of time before qoou, dot, and Neverwon found an appropriate spot to sleep, beggining their watches as planned. Neverwon kept an eye on the door, but was also writing down a new plan, dictating to himself as he wrote.

"If we can find a ladder and secure militarily the area just above the gates, we can climb down one by one- No, the gate was too tall." He crossed out his first plan.

"I thought I saw a low window. Somebody falling out that way could get out, though they would probably incur serious injury..." Neverwon reserved that as a last resort. But he wasn't sure. If he did it, he'd have to do it early- that was his best chance of crawling away...

"I have a gun- perhaps a feigned suicide attempt?" He crossed it out- the chances were too high the assasins would shoot him to be safe.

Neverwon decided to give up- the chances were still high that this was a ploy to get the detectives to kill each other...

Update 1

"Obliterate! Wake up!"

Obliterate look up. He had been sleeping under a tree. Azzaman had woken him up.

"Sorry mate, you can't have this spot unless you share your pizza. Hey, is it morning already?"

"Nope. It's only 8 pm. Listen, someone's been killed."

"Wha... what? How...?" the young detective stammered as Azzaman grabbed him and took him inside the castle and into a large luxurious room with a king-sized bed, ornate blue wallpaper and a giant chandelier. Everyone was there. It is in this very room, the Blue Room, that the mafia claimed their first victim.

All the detectives were gathered around the giant bed. Obliterate and Azzaman edged closer. The bed was bloodied, and on it was a corpse...

Backwards Logic dreamed about a girl who played the violin so badly that finally he couldn't take it anymore and clawed his own neck with his long, sharp fingernails until his death.

Obliterate gasped. "Oh my non-existent God..."

Then Neverwonagame3 said, "Someone's missing".

Then the detectives heard some strange sounds. They followed the sound out of the Blue Room and along the corridor and into a bedroom. And that's when they found him. Izipo lay dead on the floor.

Starlight shined through the window in his room, the curtains billowed in the wind. A wolf howled, and another, and another. Then a scream.

"Well, there's Izipo," said Rik Meleet. "Who else is missing."

D'Artagnan59 looked around. "Choxorn!"

Then they went around looking for him. But he was no where to be found.

"How about we have a look for that basement?", Methos suggested "I reckon there should be one. I mean, this is a castle after all right?"

The detectives looked around and eventually found a trapdoor. It led to a spacious basement, with medieval cells and torture chambers in our corner, while in another corner is a bar and a pool table. And there they found him:

Choxorn was found dead in the basement with a cracked skull. Next to him on the floor lay an acoustic guitar with the word "Trigger" painted on it, covered in Choxorn's blood.

There was a long silence. Then Tasslehoff said: "Okay, so what the hell do we do now?"

Neverwon: "Calm down folks. Now we know that woman wasn't bluffing. I say we take a look at the evidence and find the three mafias, assassins, whatever you want to call them. I mean, we're like the best detectives on earth, right?"

"Yeah," Stylesrj said "I can't sing my best if I know there's some savage killer after me"

"Alright then. Let's get to work"

It is now DAY

The bad violin playing is not a reference to me. The bad singing can lead to be me and so does the girl part, but the violin does not add up. Jonathan Coulton songs are played with a guitar

The wolves of course lead to someone else. So that's clue #2 down...

"For some reason, we know" someone in the group said
"Those wolves are creepy, can someone shut the windows?" I asked the group as we all looked at Izipo.
Down at the basement now, I examined Choxorn's body again. "Poor Choxorn. Why did he had to die so young? Why did he have to die on the pool table!? Now I can't do my trick shot!" I cry.
I put on a pair of rubber gloves and examine the guitar. "Hmmm... who could this point to?" I say, pointing the guitar at random people

"Stylesrj, you are a suspicious canidate. Give me one reason why I shouldn't shoot you right now!" cried Neverwon, raising a pistol to her head.

As he waited, he thought. Stylesrj was either one of the killers or framed- there was no doubt about that. He wanted to, but somehow Tasselhoff's psyhic powers (which, from Neverwon's rudimentary knowledge, revealed Backwards Logic's dream) prevented him from doubting them.

Continuing to think, he went through the canidates. There was something not quite about qoou- he wasn't necessarily a mafia, but it was worth checking into.

As for the sign of the wolf, he wasn't quite sure. Giving up his thought, he decided to go back to his oratory.

"Neither Stylesrj nor qoou are probable assasins, but I recommend killing both. Firstly, there is something not quite right about qoou."
OOC: I suspect him of using R.P as a tactic to gain my trust.
"Second, Stylesrj is connected both to the guitar and the dream. The violin is possibly only a distortion of the dream, and the word Trigger could be either a pun or a link to something we don't know about."

Neverwonagame sighed. "As for the third canidate, I'm not sure. But both Stylesrj and qoou should be tied up just in case."

"I'll stop singing if you don't shoot me" I exclaim quickly.

"Besides, while everyone was dying, I was in a Fey Mood all night, demanding wood logs, cut gems and bones. if I were a killer, I'd be in a Fell Mood. Now excuse me, I got to extract these bones and be 1/3 of the way to a legendary artifact!"

Neverwon sighed. Without the support of more people, he probably would be unable to shoot the targets he desired yet. Stylesrj and qoou would have to wait for later. He sighed at the prospect of shooting innocent men, but ever since the discovery of what he now called the Spamingrad text he had been very pragmatic.

The final possible suspects were Lightfang and Methos. Both of them had acted suspiciously early on. But which one to advocate the lynching of?

Neverwon was still willing to consider the possibility that some had killed others out of paranoia, but somehow his emotions overwhelming drowned the idea in a sea of irrational stupidity...

OOC:
-My information may be wrong. Given the clue disparities, I suspect the mafia have on their first turn faked at least one clue.

-If qoou is guilty, then Abgar and Rik Meleet are both suspects as they came together. I advocate qoou as the test case for the hypothesis. I also suspect him of potentially using R.P to gain my trust.

-Three wolves could be a trio of assasins of the sign of the wolf. Anybody with wolf links is suspicious. Given Kol.7's connections with NOTW games, could this be it?

-The moderator could have made poor clues. This is a factor.

-My primary bias is against those people I have heard of. Those I haven't I do not consider as suspects.

-We should prepare a list of Probable Innocents for easier processing of information. These are people we will assume did not do it because the clues point against.

Tonight the wolves murdered the reclusive Fletcher. In the morning the villagers collected in the main square, now there were so few survivers, who could you really trust? The ratcatcher sat on a bench in silence, his knees level with his head. Suddenly footsteps were heard coming from each entry to the main square, he started, suddenly alert and looked around, it was just the monk. Across the square, the gazes of Nero's, Lightfang and Sirtommygunn met, there was a slight nod from the painter, they began to transform once again.

In the distance, near the dwarven mining town of Ghrond, a deer paused a moment to drink from a small pond. The sky went dark and rain began to pour like a vertical river. The dwarves hurried into their tunnels, struggling to close the great, stone doors as the valley began to flood. As the deer fled for the forest, all that could be heard for miles around, was the Sound of Screaming.

Oh, lightfang actually was among the werewolves. That was my third vote.

Interesting line of thought. But I doubt it would be that obvious. If i was a wolf I wouldn't link my clue to my own NOTW, especially when I myyslef provided a handy list of all the NOTWs and their GMs, if this is true then the clue must be false. Also, I think anyone would scream if they were being murdered :p.

Well, the mafia only get the option of sending one false clue each in this game, so I'd have thought they'd make it a bit more obvious.

Gandhi talks a lot of sense, actually, so I'll vote Kol.7 too. Also, the scream could even point to LightFang, seeing as that was one of the games he was a wolf in.

Wouldn't it follow from the concept of fake clues that very obvious clues are the ones that should be looked at highly suspicious. If I'd see a clue "the Gandalfd avatar did it" I'd be nearly 100% sure obliterate was falsely accused.
I'm not a NOTW player (hell, I don't even know what NOTW is) but apparently there are so many clues pointing to Kol7 that I'd be highly suspicious of those. Perhaps we should look at who would know these things and thus who could be able to make that false clue.

Lighty wakes up and pulls out a magnifying glass, square in shape with a hexagonal rod, very good, as it gives +2 to perspicacity.

Might be LightFang... he's the only person I can think of that has been a wolf, or otherwise evil player, three times (discounting the current game, which of course we don't know the results of yet). (Through the Looking Glass, Ride for Ruin, Stealer of Souls.) Also: starlight.

Oh, Catharsis. How reasonable. Except I would disagree about your assessment in Through the Looking Glass. Angels are totally not evil.

And I would think that three werewolves would just refer to NOTW in general and not, say, being a wolf three times.

Further I must say that I suspect Stylesrj because of his odd way of defending himself.

The bad violin playing is not a reference to me. The bad singing can lead to be me and so does the girl part, but the violin does not add up. Jonathan Coulton songs are played with a guitar

That is true. What is also true is that not all of the clue has to be true. Some bits can be extraneous information to throw people off. So in this clue, most of it can be led to you. The violin could just be there for no purpose other than to obfuscate the situation.

Gah! Why'd it have to be me!!!!

Mods, Epic Phail at understanding mafia. :p

The 3 clues were made by 3 different people. They can be true (pointing to the one who made them) or false (pointing to someone else). Sometimes, the mafia can be sneaky and make an obscure true clue hidden within a clue pointing to somebody else. As per the rules of this game, mafia can only make one false clue in this game. Usually, it's true-false-true-false or false clues can't follow false clues, but sometimes the GM decides to do something like this.

Methos, gandhi was referring to what one mafia can do in different rounds. The 3 clues you see now can be either false or true.

I started the roleplay. You deliberately joined in. Without much evidence prior to the update, I added you to my suspects list based on one of the few factors that stood out. To be fair, this applies to dot as well.

Nobody is yet guilty beyond reasonable doubt (in the legal sense), but I vote for Stylesrj, Kol.7, and Lightfang. I recommend we all take notes of who accused whom, and take note of the following:

1- Until I said this, the mafia would be unlikely to accuse each other
2- Some people will stoop to editing their posts, but they can't edit other people's

We should also make notes on whose guilt follows "logically" (Hume refuted it in the sense most people understand it) from whose innocence, and whose guilty follows logically from whose guilt.

Neverwon decided that with everybody together, now was a good time to make a speech. Standing on a chair, he spoke loudly, both for effect and to make himself heard.

"People of the castle! Our numbers are reduced to twenty. We should attempt to escape while we still can! I have found three possible escape locations already, one which will require a battering ram or a key if our captors are stupid, one which will require a ladder, and one which will require finding the gate winch- if our captors are poorly prepared.

When our lives are at stake, escape is a worthy goal. Who is with me!"

Disclaimer: What I said about Hume earlier, though my detective doesn't know that stuff.

"I wanted to make an escape attempt Stylesrj, not search for clues. Now I think about it, I recommend we all attempt escape individually by whatever means we think best. The assasins will catch less then half of us.

"If I use my pistol, perhaps I could breach the gate."

He approached the gate, pistol in hand. Tempted to make a "badass" quote, he decided for dignity's sake against. He fired. The shot was loud, as intended. What was not intended was that it threw him backwards (as a matter of fact, Neverwon had never fired a gun before).

I couldn't make much of the "basement, guitar and trigger" clue, except connect it to Methos at first. However, a bit of googling showed that "Trigger" is a melbourne exhibition (http://www.selectparks.net/exhibitions/trigger/) thus pointing very strongly to azzaman333. I decide that this voting is futile. We all know who's going to hang tonight. I head to the Karaoke Machine, and sing one last song:

"All alone by the table of food in my wrinkled suit and my borrowed tie
Only thinking of something to say in the moment after the girl goes by
Everyone else is having fun or else pretending to
I eat another crudite

I quit, I’m done
I don’t think it’s gonna turn out OK
It’s no fair and it’s no fun
If every time it’s gonna end the same way:
Me zero
Big bad world one

At the office we’re all having cake cause it’s someone’s birthday I don’t know who
Got my plate and I’m scanning the room and the only seat is right next to you
I get the nod, the tiny smile that doesn’t come with teeth
Maybe you don’t know who I am

I quit, I’m done
I don’t think it’s gonna turn out OK
It’s no fair and it’s no fun
If every time it’s gonna end the same way:
Me zero
Big bad world one

Staying inside lying in bed
Noticing something that’s not there
Follow my heart follow my head
I’ll follow anything that might get me somewhere

Catch her eye when she’s pouring my coffee and search my head for an opening line
But I see by the look on her face if I keep my mouth shut I’ll save some time
What if the best that I can be just isn’t good enough?
Isn’t it better not to know?

I quit, I’m done
I don’t think it’s gonna work out OK
It’s no fair and it’s no fun
If every time it’s gonna end the same way:
Me zero
Big bad world one"

With that, I then sit on my bed and wait for the inevitable. Taking out the pistol, I draw it to my head to save time. However, I realised that ironically, that due to my anti-gun stance, the damned thing had no ammo. There were no spare clips either. "Damn!" I exclaim

The detectives gathered in the Blue Room. They had decided the identity of the killers.

Kol.7 trembled. "I told you. I was framed, I swear. Can't you see? This is what the mafias wanted you to think! You bunch of... you know, if you believe them, that woman wi---"

Before he could finish a bullet entered the back of his neck. He never saw Methos drawing his pistol, never saw him taking aim, never saw him fire.

Suddenly, a third of the light in the chandelier went off. The detectives were at first startled. They all look up, so they didn't saw LightFang trying to sneak out of the Blue Room.

Someone noticed. He shouts. LightFang never had a chance. He drew his pistol and opened the door but it was too late. All the detectives turned around and fire. He died in hail of bullets.

Then, half of the remaining light in the chandelier went out. There's now only 1/3 of the original light.

"I got it!" cried Stylesrj. "The light represent the number of remaining mafias. There were three and now we killed two! If we kill all three then all the lights would go out!"

"Interesting theory," said Neverwon, coldly. "Let's prove it".

"Hey, wait a sec---," began Stylesrj, but he never got to finish his sentence. A medieval axe descended upon him. Neverwon hacked the would-be comedian to a bloody death.

His job done, he looked up. The lights on the chandelier were still on.

"Well...?"

He looked around. All the detectives are gone. Confident of their awesome power of deduction, they've all once again split up to enjoy the luxuries of the Castle, but this time without the fear of imminent death. Sima Yi rushed into the Shu camp. And there was- "Zhuge Liang!". At this point, the Wei Army thought he was dead...

Neverwon woke up with enough start. "Stupid cliches..." he muttered. Not that he wasn't grateful- thanks to them he was asble to think coherently having stayed up for several hours...

And what was more, they had given him an idea. Now, how to put it into practice...

OOC: Sorry, RL has been rather busy lately. ;)

IC: dot shows no sign of relief from having killed two assasins since the only thing that crosses his mind is, "Now we'll have to wait for another night." So he turns to anyone willing to listen and asks: "Anyway, detectives, I know it's hard to relax with another killer around, but what do you think of some distraction? - We could always play an RPG. Anyone willing to make one up?"

OOC: :D

Update 2

"Um... Neverwon," said D'Artagnan59. "That RPG would have to wait. We've another victim".

The detectives, who had ;mostly gathered around the bar in the basement, looked puzzled. They followed D'Artagnan59 up the stairs and up one of the towers of the castle, where there is an observatory, where they found...

CivCube had his heart cut out. Around his body a pentagram was drawn in his own blood. The words "Another victim for the demon from hell" completed the harsh picture.

"That spoiled my appetite," said obliterate. "Hey, Stucky, want my pizza?"

It is now DAY! Well, actually it's around 21:30 in game terms
Detectives, cast your votes!

Neverwonagame3
May 28, 2008, 03:33 AM
OOC:
Given that Kol.7 and Lightfang are both wolf-assosiated, that clue was probably a major stuffup by whoever the Mafia is. The final culprit is probably a metaphorical third wolf- if so, probably assosiated with NOTW. I suspect the pentagram has more value then apparent.

If this theory is not true, we may be dealing with a mafia trying the risky strategy of revealing their comrades with a false clue that distracts us from them. Lightfang's poor defence is consistent with this, though Kol.7's defence is less so (it could be "That's what the Mafias want you think!" was to make it easier for the final Mafia to throw us off the trial, or that the strategies were not well cordinated)

IC:

Immediate Aftermath:
Neverwon left the others to meditate on events. (OOC: This leads to the storyline I made before the update)

7:00:
Something seemed to be giving Neverwon energy beyond what he should have been capable of. Adrenalin and fear played their roles, but even they did not entirely explain it. He was now prepared for action.

"If I get shot close enough to the heart, and play dead, they're not going to check whether the heart was quite hit or not. As per usual nobody will bury the corpses, giving me a tactical advantage. Thank Providence I had acting lessons."

Once no longer a target, he could move about more freely. Perhaps to reinforce the image, he could even kill a fellow detective and swap them around?

"No- not worth the risks."

7:30: (OOC: I'm not sure what would happen in the meantime)
By now, Neverwon had seen significant holes in his plan. He had no antibiotics- what if he got infected? Once his corpse was gone, how long until people figured out he was still alive? Worse- what if people thought he was the assasin himself?

But the deed was done. He figured he may as well exploit it, for now...

(OOC: Neverwon has fallen into the very human weakness of refusing to back down and cut losses)

Clue: heart, pentagram, blood, demon. Sounds satanical to me. And witchcraft is something I associate this clue with as well. And paganism.

I wiki-ed "pentagram" Pentagram and it says:
A pentagram (sometimes known as a pentalpha or pentangle or, more formally, as a star pentagon) is the shape of a five-pointed star drawn with five straight strokes. The word pentagram comes from the Greek word πεντάγραμμον (pentagrammon), a noun form of πεντάγραμμος (pentagrammos) or πεντέγραμμος (pentegrammos), a word meaning roughly "five-lined" or "five lines".

Can't make much of it. Are there players here with connections to paganism, satanical thingies and witchcraft ?

Edit: I just saw the pentagram is found on Morocco's and Ethiopean flags. Perhaps that's the connection. Is there a player with ties to Morocco or Ethiopia ?

The three wolves clue (which, I think we'd agree, was a boneheaded idea of the assasins) points to NOTW, unless we are dealing with a particularly cunning assasin. Perhaps we're dealing with somebody whose strategy is to keep their head down, not post, and hopefully for them not get noticed. (They may just post just enough to not be accused of this)

I have never played a mafia game, so I don't know really how this works. What's up with the clues ? Who made the clues and what should they tell me ? And what is this "faking" Neverwonagame3 talks about? Can't we be sure the clues are trustworthy ? ?

Clue 1: Dream. Bad violin playing Girl. Claws. Neck. Fingernails.

Clue 2: Starlight. Window. Curtains. 3 Wolfs. Scream.

Clue 3: Basement. Skull. Guitar. Trigger.

Do all clues point to the same person? I can only connect Basement to Methos and guitar and violin (music) to Stylesrj.

I thought clues couldn't point to 2 people.

We've got 48 hours before we vote, right ??

Let's use that time and not jump to conclusions straight away. False clues apparently are potent weapons when used on unsuspecting detectives.

After much consideration I vote for Kol.7 for the "wolfs and scream" clue, Stylesrj for the "bad violin/bad music" clue.

I couldn't make much of the "basement, guitar and trigger" clue, except connect it to Methos at first. However, a bit of googling showed that "Trigger" is a melbourne exhibition thus pointing very strongly to azzaman333. Since "trigger" was specifically mentioned I take it as important, and especially since it isn't a clue poiting very obviously to someone I tend to give it more credit. And that's why I vote for azzaman333.

Rik Meleet first defended Kol.7, then joined the bandwagon. I suspect him, despite not being sure about the third wolf clue. It could be a cunning ploy, and there is also the fact I don't know enough about anybody to rule out wolf connections.

I didn't mean to defend Kol.7, nor do I think that I actually did defend him. I pointed out that very obvious clues ring a "this is suspicious" bell in my head. After consideration and seeing the regulars vote for Kol.7 I concluded that the majority considered that the clues, and taking into consideration that obviousness played a role, still pointed to Kol.7, so I concluded that, from your experience, Kol.7 really did it - and we were right. :)

It is very good to be suspicious in this game. However, in MHPOV you then start to blindly point to me. If I am a mafia (which I am not) there must be at least 1 clue pointing at me. Which clue is that ???

Until you answer that my vote is for Edit, see posts 221&222 Neverwonagame3 nobody yet since you seem to blindly point to me, probably because my analysis and summary of the clues means that I am a threat for unmasking you.

I don't know much about the other players in this game, so I don't know which clues point to you. If that demand can reasonably be made of me accusing you, then I can ask you which clue points to me, right?

I don't know enough about the other players to be able to pinpoint based on the clues, so I went for the closest to good evidence I could find. You were amongst those who did not vote for anybody actually guilty, plus the evidence I have already mentioned led me to that conclusion.

Rik Meleet

You're right.
I don't know you well enough to know what clues point to you. You have no avatar clues can point to, no signature, no location or other details in your profile. So any clues you've made pointing to yourself are beyond me.

But I'm sure someone else will inform us on what clues point to you (or in your defense: point to me). If there are none pointing to you I will change my vote from you to someone else. I expect the same from you if no clues point to me. That way we'll both stay in the game to pick out the mafia.

2) Never; do you -in real life or as a roleplay- have been a wizard, practised voodoo or other types of "dark magic" ?

Since so many votes are based on irrational presumptions rather then evidence, how about we (meaning those who have cast their votes on things other then who they think the Mafia is) take time to discuss the probability of who is actually guilty? I'm not asking people to change votes, but we may as well. It increases our chances of actually catching the Mafia.

"What the hell? I'm not even playing," said Nobody, who appeared from a back door in the Blue Room, where the detectives have gathered.

Alarmed, the detectives spun around to see a bruised and bloodied figure. "What the... who are you?," asked Rheinmetall. He grabbed his Desert Eagle and aim it at Nobody's head.

"Me? I'm, ah, I live here. I was imprisoned in that room behind me by some armed goons. I should be asking that question!"

"I don't trust him. Hey, someone lock him up in that basement. We'll question him later"

"I'll go", volunteered a trembling and sweating Neverwonagame3. He looked at the detectives. They had decided he was the remaining killer. He knew it.

He was scared. Instincts told him to protect himself. He reached for his pistol.

"No you won't." Rheinmetall's Desert Eagle exploded with suddenness that made all the detectives jump. When they stopped screaming Neverwon lies dead on the fine golden carpet of the Blue Room in a pool of blood.
