Come to the Imperial City they said... Meet interesting people they said.... They're really quite nice they said....

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot9.jpg

Well at least the view is lovely...

anyway welcome to my story, I'm Neville Ryan or as the guards who brought me in call me "The one responsible for the Yarn incident".

My day was going as per usual, I went over to have my morning talk with the fellow across the hall from me

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot11.jpg

Isn't he a stitch? it breaks me up how he can keep such a straight face while threating my impending doom.

anyway, I received a visit from the Emperor Uriel Septim and The Blades, now I must note that I was a little star stuck but the Emperor quickly made a rather pleasant surprise awkward

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot16.jpg

Umm... alright?

Luckily the emperor makes a save when he goes on about how he knows I am destined for great things and I will not be remembered for whatever I'm in jail for, I would normally be up for a chat but I begin to notice that a door has opened into a secret room connected to my cell that seems to go deeper into some other area.

I follow the Emperor because apparently despite the Blades reluctance to let a prisoner escape, Uriel's fine with having a man in his skivies run around defending him from assassins which, might I add, I did a decent job of

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot13.jpg

Pow! right in the..thigh maybe?

Luckily following the battle I found a sword on the body of a dead blade, but by the time I looked up I noticed that the Emperor had left and locked the door behind him, I assume by accident.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot15.jpg

I noticed two rats coming at me who I quickly dispatched with two mighty slashes, judging by the sizes of them they've eaten whatever cats had been sent to deal with them, oi vey

What mods are you using?

Lovely moment, meeting with the Emperor.

@Princescamp, no mods actually, I have no clue how to add them without something crashing or just not working :p

@Kan, Aye I am quite the fan of living in oblivion, however I think the one downfall of the format is that he can't go on Quests and I've made sure not to restrict myself in what I can do

I left the area that I had slayed two rats in (who needs a mousetrap when you have a sword?) and began my walk through the hidden passages when almost immediately I came across an interesting case, fit for a deductive mind such as my own.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot17.jpg

How does a man get into a secret escape path, manage to get himself killed by rats despite being rather well armed and finally how does his head fall off?

Elementary dear readers, as we can see by the light in the image theres a rather decent sized hole in the ceiling next to him which he quite likely fell through while chasing something, died in the fall and had his body eaten by rats, explaining the poor condition of the body!

I'm fighting a horde of rats it leaves plenty of time for the mind to wander

After searching the body I find some arrows and clothes which I use to hide my shame

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot19.jpg

On second thought, I'd like to change my deduction Watson, The Crazy Bugger was running around without any pants on and was thrown in a nearby hole by unappreciative citizens.

My one man crusade against the rats of the Imperial city continues until something strange happens, a Zombie joins in the Frey.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot20.jpg

I dispatch one rat while the other runs at what it would seem to think the larger of two threats, I can't help but feel a little insulted, I even beat the Zombie.... but despite my victory the rat has psyched me out and I sense that I won only because he weakened him for me.

I continue through the paths and even fight my way through a Goblin base in which I find a neat little staff

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot28.jpg

I can't help but be a little creeped out, but its worth a decent amount of gold so I stick it in my backpack and continue on the journey (I hope to be rid of the thing before I need to sleep)

Finally I come to a change of scenery and even hear familiar voices in the distance

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot29.jpg

Defend the Emperor from you, it seems. That's a perfect ambush spot!

How are you going to be playing Neville, out of interest? Good/bad/stupid/mage/fighter? Or are you just going to let his story unfold as you go along?

 I will be following this.. That Shaman stick is pretty disturbing indeed.

I've also been reading the adventures of Nondrick though he seems to have limited himself somewhat by not taking any quests

Strange, I don't seem to remember that staff having a Goblin head.

Captain2
May 20, 2008, 04:32 PM
@Kan, Well the way I intend to play Neville is along the lines of a well meaning arse, I certainly don't expect poor Neville to go running around the countryside stabbing people who look at him funny :p

@Pugwash and Scamp, yeah I don't usually find the Goblin head staff all that strange but after rotating my character to take a better picture I noticed that he's rather transfixed with the head stuck on the end of it

Captain2

Listening to the voices in the next room, all kinds of questions came to mind, What Emperor are they talking about and what are the odds of two emperors using the same escape route? uncanny! I decided to go out and meet with the voices in hopes of finding something alive thats not a rat.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot30.jpg

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa Whoa Whoa!.... Whoa.....Whoa who let this guy get up to Emperor guarding duties? "hey! he might be working with the enemy, lets inflict bodily harm!" geez, thankfully Uriel called him off, thankfully for him.... because blood can be a pain to clean off of a blade so I could have been quite the inconvenience

After a short conversation with Uriel he allowed me to choose my birthsign and gain a decent bonus skill.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot31.jpg

I figured as long as I'll be sticking around the Emperor and his stab happy guards the ability to disappear may be quite beneficial.

After a short walk, keeping close to the Emperor one of the Blades makes an interesting discovery

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot36.jpg

Ackbar here then instructs us to hide into the next room while they fend off the assasins while we have a nice little chat

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot38.jpg

I sense the begining of a great tale that will be the stuff of legends... of course I always predict that and I have yet to get one right, however I'm not given long to dwell on the situation as an assasin bursts through the hidden door to the Emperors left and kills him with a single stroke

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot39.jpg

I pull out an arrow and take aim, only to have my target killed by one of the blades who foolishly steps in the path of my projectile

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot43.jpg

With an arrow sticking out of his chest and the Emperor who had been responsible for calling these guys off of me bleeding on the floor, my chances don't look great right now

I like that calm "What the Hell?" expression on that guys face in that last shot.

Captain2
May 21, 2008, 02:05 PM
Once again I luck out, rather than run me through Baurus just asks me what I do for a living, I figure with an arrow sticking out of his chest we won't believe me if I claimed to be a marksman so I decide to answer truthfully

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot41.jpg

I assume Thief to be a rather safe career choice, and should the need come up I can always pick up a sword and wear some decent armour, while a Knight can't pick a lock at all.

After I walked through the remainder of the Sewers I saw a bright light at the end of a tunnel and followed it, outside I came across a lake and in order to survey my surroundings I walked on top of a hill and looked around

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot46.jpg

I think I know where I'm going...

P.S. finally figured out how to add a mod, it adds a shop that I can go to in order to buy new speciality arrows that are useful for thief work

Kan' Sharuminar

You better hope that the guards who arrested you in Imperial City don't recognise you :mischief:

Captain2
May 21, 2008, 04:53 PM
Immediately upon entering the city I'm approached by a child

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot47.jpg

I follow the instructions on the letter given to me and crawl down a sewer grate, after a short walk I come across a nicely furnished room with a man who sells different kinds of arrows

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot48.jpg

I pick up a Grease arrow (people who run over it fall down) and a Blackjack, a big club thats used for thumping people over the head (doesn't kill but leaves them with a pretty impressive headache)

I wander around the merchant district until I notice that the only door unlocked is the Imperial Centre of Commons, I take advantage and walk inside

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot50.jpg

Theres not much downstairs worth stealing besides books, but I go upstairs and check out the shop owner

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot51.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot52.jpg

Now I can see why someone would keep a dagger nearby, but sleep with it? I decide that this person must be fairly handy with it to keep it on them while sleeping and be sure that they won't stab them self, needless to say I disarm her before I continue taking anything of value.

Afterwards I find myself rather exhausted and see if I can talk the Inn owner into letting me have a room

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot53.jpg

oh come on! theres three rooms with nobody in them and he wants me to pay 20 gold? I don't even have pants!

I promptly get him back for such cruelty by dropping my loot from the previous theft in his dining area

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot47-1.jpg

Ha! got you good! seeya in ten years jerk!

While searching around the barrels in the merchant district I came across something rather interesting, and may I add, thankfully received

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot54-1.jpg

While I normally would frown upon found pants I was rather glad to finally walk around in something besides a loincloth, This is the beginning of a hero people... Neville has pants!

naturally I celebrated by visiting the local warehouse

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot52-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot50-1.jpg

After giving the warehouse keeper a little good-night thunk on the head I helped myself to his selection of cloth and walked back out. for some reason he saw fit to talk to the guards and inform them of my activities, like the sporting chap I am I naturally went along with the nice guard, of course after running down an alley and throwing my goods in a barrel for later.

Upon getting out of jail I had a letter delivered to me telling me to go to the waterfront and wait until midnight, naturally I showed up without any kind of hesitation to wait behind a building after dark for some kind of secret meeting, what could go wrong?

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot58.jpg

everything went swimmingly well, I asked a peasant as to where I could find the journal, hopefully before Methredhel, although I later evened the odds

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot62.jpg

well... depending upon your idea of how one evens the odds, surprisingly I reached the journal first and since I had until the next night to deliver it I decided to flip through it

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot65.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot63.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot64.jpg

after reading that I'm glad I decided to be a thief instead of a dentist.... anyway, its been a day since I've slept and while visiting the waterfront I found a neat little place called the bloated float, with a name like that I can feel the comfort already

(well, Precipice of Darkness has come out and I fail to update two days in a row... is there a link? :p)

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot67.jpg

well, after about 24 hours of being awake I'm beginning to believe that its time for sleep, should I go too long I could end up accidentally attacking citizens while yelling incoherently about assassins or something, happened to my uncle so it does run in the family.

The kindly owner allows me to rent a room for only 10 gold, half the price of the jerk in the merchant district.... note to self, dump more junk in his inn.

I go to bed for 10 hours and prepare to meet the next day head on

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot69.jpg

little did I expect it to be so literal, it appears the Inn has been taken over by a gang and set out to sea, this fellow was the first thing I see after waking up and opening my door, I decide to have a little chat and things go awry.

After I claim to be the cook for the ship he decides now would be a great time to start trouble and he pulls out his sword, little does he suspect that this cook is well prepared for battle and within a few seconds he's on the floor with a few arrows sticking out of him, I steal his clothes and sword and move up to the next level.

While on my way to the next floor I discover some rather nice clothes in a trunk and I come up with an idea, I'd prefer to get out of this conflict with as little bloodshed as possible but dressed the way I am I look like I'm ready for a fight.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot70.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot71.jpg

so I wear the fancy clothes and go up top using the reasoning that everybody loves the rich, I meet another gang member and have a brief chat

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot73.jpg

Bloody Bolsheviks.... sadly I'm forced to take another gang member down and prepare to liberate the wheel so we can get back to the Imperial city, although once I get out of the ship and see the waves around me I change my tactic and charge right into the next fight

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot76.jpg

Oh I do love being a swashbuckler.... as I rarely get the chance to swash any buckles on land and since visiting this Inn I've been able to do it three times.

I dispatch the brute and prepare to meet the leader of this treacherous crew, I prepare my sword to face this brute... oh when I get ahold of him I'll....

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/selene.jpg

Dammit... I really should have worn my nice clothes into this battle

Following a restless sleep upon returning to my room (the voices in my head kept playing "My heart will go on" in a constant loop) I left the Inn and decided that another meeting with the Thief's guild was in order and they naturally gave me an interesting mission.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot87.jpg

As the Robin Hoodish type that I am I naturally accepted this quest with great joy and ran off to the guard station that contained the collected taxes

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot89.jpg

Now this was a strange moment, I snuck across the room as one of them ate an apple and watched my attempt at stealth yet made no move to stop me, I suppose their supervisor was out for supper and they could care less about actually stopping a strange man who sneaks across open rooms without any kind of cover from doing whatever he was planning on doing.

Things went well until I came to this obstacle

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot90.jpg

well it appears the guards have thought ahead and have somehow found out how to lock their ladders, I'm dealing with an evil genius here, but they didn't expect to deal with the skill of Neville Ryan, Lock picker extraordinaire!

I dealt with their ladder and moved up to the next floor where I was able to grab the required tax forms and the money itself from a desk, however I was spotted by an officer who decided to have a word with me

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot91.jpg

My answer naturally was something along the lines of "look out, Minotaur!" and then a quick jump down three floors worth of ladders leading to an escape into the street

I was being quickly pursued by the officer who had caught me and three guards, I was able to take two of them out using a trick I had up my sleeve

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot92.jpg

Grease Arrows to the rescue! that little black slick spot lead two of my pursuers headfirst into the pavement, as I have yet to willingly kill anyone I made sure they were alive before stealing their house keys in revenge.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot93.jpg

Now, I finally met my match in the Imperial guard, I was able to lose one of them after running around like a mad fool for nearly a half hour but one of them pursued me as if I had stolen his child

He followed me all the way to the waterfront while pelting me with arrows, if it wasn't for the terrible pain he was inflicting upon me I would have admired his willingness to chase someone for 50 gold
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot95.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot97.jpg

In an attempt to lose him I jumped up on a roof and hid from his view, yet he would not be fooled and continued to fire upon me until I fired a noisemaker behind him and jumped off the roof

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot98.jpg

I decided I needed a breather in order to heal and ducked inside a nearby house, crouching in the corner so as to not wake the owner, when what should suddenly happen but my relentless pursuer should bust through the door and wake the man who owned the house I was hiding in, however the guard did something rather surprising his attempts to apprehend me.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot100.jpg

He shot the owner as he rose from his bed in hopes of getting at me, frankly I'm glad his shot missed but I wish the chair I was hiding behind had been the one who suffered from my actions. In hopes of allowing this poor man the ability to one day tell his children of this strange encounter I ran back out of the house and prepared my next move, a gas arrow, as with most of my weapons it is non-lethal but will keep the guard off of my trail.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot102.jpg

As I said goodnight to Super Cop I decided to do the honourable thing and allow him to rest without any theft on my part, I then went on my way to find a place to hide until after he wakes up and leaves.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot103.jpg

If he finds me I may need to flee the country altogether

eight hours later I decided upon leaving my watery hiding place and discovered that the Guard had woken up and left already, while attempting to dry off my belongings I discovered that I still had the amulet of kings within my possession, seeing as how I've been repeatedly informed that the amulet is rather important I felt that it was time that I took it to its destination

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot87-1.jpg

After a short walk (or a fast travel) I reached Weynon Priory and went inside to speak with Jauffre, who seemed to have a hard time believing that I had
an amulet for him

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot89-1.jpg

So nobody but the Emperor can handle it but he wants to grab it? I'm beginning to believe poor Uriel put his faith in the wrong guy, even his reaction to the amulet was underwhelming

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot90-1.jpg
.... he appears to have fallen asleep with joy, luckily I was able to wake him up and ask him a few questions regarding the Emperor's heir

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot91-1.jpg

So after backtracking and finding directions to Kvatch I begin on my quest to find the heir to the throne

While walking to Kvatch from the Imperial city (bloody horses cost 2,500 gold) I decided to see the sights and walked off the main road where I came across some ruins

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot104-1.jpg

sure it looks nice but then you notice the demon in there, my job is to get to Kvatch, not deal with demons, however I do manage to dispatch several wolves on my way.

Just as it becomes dark I begin looking for an inn or something but luckily I spot something better

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot108-1.jpg

I manage to get within the city by the time that sun goes down and ask a guard for directions to the inn, of course I didn't know that I was standing with my back to the inn but the guard didn't tell me that... jerk

I walked in and decided to add a bit of excitement to the inn owners life

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot111-1.jpg

see the boredom on her face? I decided that by jumping from the second floor onto her counter I'd be giving her a decent laugh....

"oh you adventurers" she'd say laughing heavily and offering me a room for free because I had brought her such joy, I decided to go for it

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot112-1.jpg

huh... well I paid for my room and went to bed, keeping my sword on the nightstand just in case and as soon as morning came I left

of course I wished to have my weapons repaired and then I could continue on to Kvatch, however I had a strange little meeting

After a bit of thought on the subject I made my mind up rather firmly, this poor creepy fellow may need my help, what kind of hero would I be if I refused?

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot116.jpg

Apparently he believes that his neighbours are watching him because he knows too much, I naturally was willing to help this poor man against the conspiracy that he's facing

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot119.jpg

with that I ran off to my target and began my observation of Ms. Peneles and I even made some detailed notes

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot124.jpg

6:30- Leaves her home and goes into the church down the street, pays little attention to my creepy little friend

moving like the shadows themselves I followed her through the church and kept my eye on her, I would be suprised if she even noticed a candle flicker whilst I observed her.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot125.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot127.jpg

7:30- After sitting for an hour she returns to her home, she however lacks the cunning I have and forgets to lock her door whitch I quickly use to my advantage to gain entry to her home

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot129.jpg

8:00-She walks across the room and stares at what appears to be a cabinet

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot131.jpg
8:30-My crafty opponent walks into the corner for a half hour and stares at a barrel as if it is part of some ritual... I expect a portal to Oblivion to open but nothing occurs

9:00- She onces again moves towards me, I duck behind the wall to avoid her gaze and slowly return to see her staring off across the room

Shortly after reporting to Glarthir that I suspect Bernadette Peneles is up to something he gave me the name of the next person that he suspected of watching him.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot143.jpg

however I decided to kill some time beforehand and talk with a few citizens about my employer, they said he seemed a little crazy but otherwise harmless... of course after living in a land where people will often leave their homes to till their neighbours pavement for six hours, I could see someone who pays attention to his neighbours like Glarthir would end up going a little crazy.

however I accidentally drew attention to myself while asking around

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot120.jpg

hmm, this guard was acting oddly interested in an outstanding hero like myself talking to Glarthir, therefore I decided to continue onto my observation of the next suspicious person

with my skill in lock picking it was rather simple to get inside the house at midnight, however once I got in I was rather pleasantly surprised

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot145.jpg

I must note that I fought every instinct I had trying to avoid the urge to loot the hell out of this guy's house, because after all that would be a pretty huge tip off that someone had been here

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot147.jpg

while observing my target asleep I noticed the rather nice looking clothes that he had laid out for the next day

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot148.jpg

Oh Neville you dashing rogue! one day my adventures will pay off and I'll actually own these clothes rather than be forced to break into peoples houses and wear them whilst standing five feet away

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot150.jpg

or a matter of inches.... regardless while he slept I continued trying on his rather nice wardrobe until he woke up for morning leading to a rather awkward meeting, made even worse that I was now wearing his red outfit

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot152.jpg

naturally I feigned confusion and snuck back out, when he left his house two hours later I just casually walked up and started a conversation with him, he probably didn't recognise me because I was wearing my own clothes

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot155.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot156.jpg

He then went on to elaborate that he was planning on going to visit Castle Skingrad, I naturally took this information and deciphered where he would be headed later that day, The Castle!

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot157.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot159.jpg
I followed him as he neared his destination, he would not have noticed me any more than he would have noticed his own shadow, however upon arriving within the castle he just largely chatted with other people and stood around

feeling that the castle itself must now be tied to the conspiracy I decided to explore it and see what lurked within its walls

I wandered the hallways and checked various rooms, picking locks where needed and finally I reached the dungeon level of the castle.

however thats where things went badly, a guard demanded money from me despite the fact I had not broken any laws (In his line of view) being the freedom loving citizen I am I refused to be taken in

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot163.jpg

of course when the guard saw fit to mace me, I decided it was time to flee, mission or not and after a sprint down the hallway I ducked into the nearest door in hopes of losing this guard

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot164.jpg

umm hello gentlemen, I'll just leave now thanks! hehe!

of course they would have none of it and continued to chase me, forcing me to use my grease arrow against them

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot165.jpg

Have to love grease arrows, they're a show by themselves but I found out something extremely interesting while booby trapping a set of stairs to cause guards to fall down in an extremely comical manner

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot167.jpg

Toutius! I see he has laid an extremely well thought out plan as though a Bond villain, lure the spy into a well defended fortress and have him killed by your goons? he wishes!

with a well placed quip "I'm sorry gentlemen but I must leap you alone" I jumped over the stairway full of guards and my arch Nemesis and booked it for the door, downing a potion of healing because a well placed arrow would have killed me

however despite my escape I had one enemy who refused to leave me alone

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot169.jpg

I shot a grease arrow in his path and watched his momentum take him out of the picture

Following the last little engagement I met with Glarthir again and was ordered to follow someone that he expect to the the ringleader of the whole operation, of course following the last engagement with who is apparently a small fish in this conspiracy I really didn't feel like dying and decided that I should check up on Glarthir's house instead, as I'd like to know more about those I work for

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot160-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot161-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot162-1.jpg

I was surprised at how many books he had around his house and just how generally messy it was, but thats how smart people work and I should know as I usually leave any place I've even visited entirely messy, however I decided that its time to wrap this up and talk with my employer. We met once again behind the church at midnight and I told him that the "ringleader" wasn't involved in the conspiracy, which I thought he took rather well, although he did try to extend my services to him

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot148-1.jpg

No no no no no NO! I need to get on my way to Kvatch and I can't try to do whatever he wants.... this conspiracy goes all the way to the top and simply trying to find out who's involved has taken me three days, I take his note and put it in my pocket but tell him that I have far more pressing matters

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot151-1.jpg

I thought he took it well and walked off mumbling something about conspiracies and something that sounded like a threat but I couldn't entirely make it out.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot167-1.jpg

feeling poorly for being unable to help him I decide to rent a room and go to sleep, however I begin to have strange dreams

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot162-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot163-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot157-1.jpg

I wake up in a cold sweat with only three hours sleep and to my best efforts I cannot find a way to get back to sleep, to ease my mind I decide that I should check the note written by Glarthir just in case

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot165-1.jpg

Oh crap.... I quickly jump from the bed and run out the door without even changing out of my nighttime clothes to see Glarthir headed towards the church, exactly where Peneles is judging by the time and my knowledge of her schedule

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot170-1.jpg

I walked into the church just in time to see Bernadette get hit with his axe, luckily she manages to survive and runs out of the church, I cannot stand for such vigilante justice and run out to fetch the guards

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot171-1.jpg

Sadly Glarthir finds them as well and gets into a duel with them, ending poorly for him

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot175.jpg

as he isn't knight material a few well placed sword slashes and an arrow to the back bring him down. I go to talk with Bernadette to see if she's okay but she brings forward a rather detached assessment of the situation

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot177.jpg

I imagine she's going through shock, not that I'd blame her, of course this incident is the final straw and I decide its time to head towards Kvatch as I've had enough of killing for the foreseeable future

Well I must remember to file a complaint with the Imperial guard once I find one of them, as soon as I got out of sight of the castle I was attacked by a bandit who came running out of the bushes

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot182.jpg

In fact I had been standing there and studying my map (I wasn't sure if I had walked out of the correct exit from Skingrad) and as soon as it was closed I had some crazy bugger swinging at me with his mace, however things did find a way to get worse as I back pedalled and shot at my attacker with arrows another character ran out of the shrubs as well deciding to attack me while I'm busy, Clever Girl....

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot184.jpg

however I was able to continue my tactic of running and shooting, despite taking rather heavy damage, and took both of them out

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot186.jpg

is it me or does it just appear that he's simply put the arrow in his mouth and closed his eyes in hopes I'll walk away and leave him alone? oh well I suppose I'll give the coward a break since I'm not the type to overkill, or tell someone when they're dead or not.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot188.jpg

it may be hard to see but here is another bandit, this one is an archer and continually shoots me with little arrows that stick out of me, of course giving me a healthy dose of irony since I had done same thing to the last two people I ran into. I finally proved who was the better archer and then robbed the bandit of his belongings, leading me to start a petition to rename this place the "Irony Bridge"

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot192.jpg

I may not be any good at respecting the dead but at least I moved him out of the way so that traffic won't be stalled on his account, so if he enjoys punctuality I really just did him a favour

I come by a guard a bit up the road but I found a distinct lack of a "Complain about poor law enforcement" option so I let him be on his way since I noticed that I was already within sight of Kvatch, another twenty minutes of walking and I was greeted by someone I'm beginning to suspect isn't the official spokesman for the Kvatch tourist industry

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot208.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot209.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot210.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot211.jpg

So apparently something may have gone amiss with my wishes of walking in, meeting with a priest and then getting him to become king, who would have suspected such an easy task would go so awry?

on my way up to inspect the city I met with a Priest who I decided to have a short chat with
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot212.jpg

Now I must admit I'm impressed with his whole "Yes yes, Daedra are killing people and overunning our city.... have you heard what happened in Anvil Chapel!?!" approach to the whole situation, as I pondered how this mans mind must work I continued up to the city

Upon reaching the top of the path I came across a barricade and three guards holding off 3 Daedra who had come out of a giant portal in front of the city gates, after the Kvatch garrison had finished them off I decided to talk to their commander and see if I could help

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot219.jpg

Yes, Yes I am.... I walk up to disaster sites, volunteer my help and then run away laughing. After assuring him that I in fact did want to help he told me that he had already sent men into the oblivion gate to hopefully close it and recommended that I go in to help them out

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot221.jpg

I spent a minute contemplating weither or not this was the best course of action, I could very well be walking into a land made entirely out of lava where my first step could be fatal... but then again its not like I have anything better to do so I just jumped through, luckily the ground was still there and I continued to live

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot223.jpg
The first thing I noticed was a pair of bipedal triceratops having it out with a Kvatch guard, I dove into the frey and helped him win so the poor lad wouldn't perish

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot226.jpg
I was rather glad to speak with someone as well since I really didn't look forward to pointlessly wandering around waiting for something to happen, of course immediately after telling me that a friend of his was captured he mentioned that he intended to go back and stand around with his guard buddies doing nothing besides staring at a portal, I decided he'd be of more use completing his mission and convinced him to come with me

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot233.jpg
Illend made a rather interesting discovery while we headed towards a pair of towers that we saw in the distance, while walking through an open field a round spinning device jumped up in the air and exploded. Unfortunately Ye Olde Bouncing Betty damaged him heavily and I was unable to help him in any way, yet he insisted on finishing his mission.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot234.jpg
We finally came to the door of the tower and went inside, unfortunately things did not turn out entirely as we could have hoped

@Volum, its nice to see that I can write well enough to get people interested, what character did you make? :D

@Darth, thanks, I was a little wary of that line but now I'm glad I put it in :)

@Kan, well to be fair a wizard would be far too busy flinging fireballs or summoning Daedra to bother with the study of dinosaurs

@ Scamp, alright :p
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot235.jpg

Upon walking into the tower, Ilend and I came face to face with a Clannfear (Protoceratops) and I managed to slay the beast, however poor Ilend had been separated from me during the battle when he charged another that had been across the room, a yell of pain following my post fight looting lead me to the scene

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot236.jpg
Upon witnessing my comrade struck down in the heat of battle, I charged forth at the Clannfear and slashed him several times thankfully killing it, I then decided that my services were needed to aid Ilend and I rushed over

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot239.jpg
Further inspection of Ilend lead me to believe that he had been killed immediately after a rather strong blow, of course he may have survived had he not been the one to discover the explosives outside, out of respect for his mission and bravery I took a few liberties with his belongings

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot240.jpg
Donning the armour of a true hero I followed the winding paths throughout the tower, destroying many a Daedra, until I reached an odd room that contained a man in a cage suspended in the air that was guarded by a Daedra of impressive stature, I slew the beast but discovered something rather odd

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot247.jpg
this had me puzzled rather severely, despite being a Daedra who was guarding an old man held against his will, I was apparently in the wrong by killing him. Perhaps he donated all of his evil henchmen pay to orphans or was a blood donor, this certainly makes the top of my "things to ponder" list upon leaving Oblivion.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot248.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot249.jpg
This fellow was nice enough to tell me what was necessary to close the gate, however he refused to allow me to return the favour and let him out of his cage, I suspect he saw me in Ilend's armour and decided he would rather take his chances there. Now with an idea of how I should proceed to close the gate I went through the tower and cleared out a dozen more Clannfear and a few Scamps, following a large stream of fire that appeared to reach into the heavens.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot251.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot255.jpg
Upon reaching the room with the sigil stone however I ran into another Daedra of the type that I had encountered earlier and had qualified for murder by killing, naturally I was cautious when approaching it as I disliked the idea of being labelled "Neville Ryan-Murderer of the Blood Donors" but the bloody creature saw fit to ruin the reputation of his species

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot256.jpg
Upon seeing me, he shot me with some spell that reduced my strength to the point where I either had to drop my items and kill him or stay there and be an easy target, naturally with my thief background I stood there like a dolt while he shot me full of spells awaiting the moment I could show him what I am capable of

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot258.jpg
As soon as the spell wore off (5-6 free shots later) I charged at him swinging my sword like a madman, sadly he decided to run away and I was forced to chase him for a minute or two before a blow connected and killed the jerk, but luckily he had lead me right to the Sigil stone

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot259.jpg
as I inched out onto the platform holding the stone I reached my hand out until it brushed against the object that I so badly needed, I then grabbed it and put it safely in my backpack for later. now its just a matter of waiting for the portal to close

I love running around being an assassin for the Dark Blades or whatever they called.

Not long ago i did a mission in the good old prison where i wasnt supposed to kill any guards or i would loose my bonus, after being spotted and running and jumping to avoid the guards i finally get out after killing my victim, one detirmed guard follows me outside and manages to fall down a cliff and die. iiiiiiiiit!
hmm... well it appears I've survived the inferno I've created and wound up back at the gates entrance and as a plus I've been able to hold onto the sigil stone, as would be natural the Captain of the Kvatch guard wanted to have a word with me

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot261.jpg
Being the huge fan I am of counter attacks I naturally agreed, followed by the sound of several swords being unsheathed and a charge towards the gate

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot262.jpg
I'm really glad I ended up with a matching uniform because I think it adds to the whole situation, although on the other side of the doors we ran right into a battlefield

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot263.jpg
Captain, his two guards and myself came face to face with the forces of darkness and decided it was time to begin hacking our way through

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot264.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot266.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot267.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot268.jpg

A post battle count of the bodies lead to a terrible discovery, although we had won the initial skirmish we had ran into the battle with roughly the same number of troops as the enemy yet 5-6 of them lay dead while 2 of the Kvatch guard had been killed and the Captain knocked out within 10 minutes of entering the city, however for those who prefer a much simpler analysis

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot269.jpg

Well he really picked my spirits up, we'd lost half of our force in 10 minutes but the joy of winning the gate had filled him to the point of being infectious, I no longer cared about casualties and looked forward to charging against difficult odds. We then decided to go into the chapel as thats where the survivors were thought to be, and I'm still on the lookout for Martin and can't think of a better place to find a priest.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot270.jpg
The guards decided to work out an evacuation plan for the survivors while I checked through their ranks for Brother Martin

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot273.jpg
Yes... well I suppose I could have started with "Hello!" but instead I decided to go for "Brother Martin! Heir to the Throne! Come with Me!" since its the one time I would probably ever get to say it

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot275.jpg
Great! so I've finally convinced the priest to aid me in my travels and all it took was the aura of a main character to convince him, although my joy was interrupted by Matius reminding me that if it wasn't a bother could I help him go kill Daedra and stuff?

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot278.jpg
Setting off to capture the Castle Matius, Martin and myself drew our weapons and ran out of the chapel straight into another mini battle

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot287.jpg
Holy Flaming Priest Batman!
well after killing 6 or 7 scamps we find out that we need to unlock the gate into the castle, but we'd need to get into the castle first. Luckily the chapel has a secret route into the castle that we should be able to use. Upon reentering the chapel, Martin and I ran into 3 guards who offered to come with us and naturally I accepted, we then had a talk with one of the Kvatch higher-ups in hopes of finding the way to the secret passage.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot289.jpg
Wow... that came out of nowhere... of course I do enjoy how he lumps closing a gate to oblivion with borrowing a cup of sugar, I remember as a boy being told by my mother "you know, Mrs.Brahe is getting up there in years... could you run over there and close the portal to damnation thats sitting on her lawn?" of course once I snapped out of my fond childhood memories I noticed the bugger had already run off to find the passage for me, well off I go then

Following that conversation with Berich, he lead us underneath the church towards the alternate path to the castle gates, we of course ran into several Daedra while trying to block our offensive but we managed to fight our way through the basement without any casualties

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot291.jpg

Well Brother Martin did manage to get himself set on fire again but I suppose he's bound to with that little dagger of his, you'd really think that a Priest would have access to some decent weaponry wouldn't you? shortly after this skirmish we broke out into the rest of the city and fought among the ruins of an arena

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot292.jpg

Neville's Roughnecks© as we have decided to call ourselves (I haven't yet brought it up with the rest of the guys) slashed our way through Daedra after Daedra and took bites, fireballs, rips, tears and arrows (our archer really needs practice) and keep going into the next battle thirsting for more conflict

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot293.jpg

as we continued on our path of destruction I took a break to get a shot of the gang so we could always remember this fight.... as I so rarely get to fight with anything resembling an army

oh those cut ups.... the old sword in front of the face to block the persons face trick... however Neville's Roughnecks© was not meant to be, during an especially tough fight against Scamps and Clannfear something unexpected happened

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot297.jpg
Running out of nowhere, a Daedra clad in armour rushed into the battle and killed two of my guards immediately. As I ran to slay him he also killed the archer before finally succumbing to my blows.

Sigh, this just reminds me of the utter failure of the "battles" in oblivion :(

One game, I cleared out the entire area (as much as I could) before the troops went in. I even managed to bypass these 2 gaurds (who usually wind up getting killed after they decide to follow you) in one oblivion gate. I had to hop up on to some rocks above them which was kind of tricky (and took awhile).

The annoying thing is when a (very weakened guard) decides to step in front of the path of your arrow that's already in mid-flight. That happened in another game (Might & Magic 6 or 7) when I was trying to shoot a dragonfly and a villager walks right between my team, and the dragonfly. Then she proceeds to attack the whole team.

BTW, ever shoot out a horse when a gaurd is riding it? Something interesting happens... ;)

@Volum, sorry about that... I had all the screenshots ready but got too involved in the planning of a prank for later today :p

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot301.jpg

As I wandered about the ruins of Kvatch I found an outpost filled with seemingly random items, rugs, hay, cases and also luckily a hatch that lead to the castle, Martin and I went through the passages and found nothing of interest other than a pair of fires on exact opposite sides of a large hallway, however as they are seemingly random I cannot find a reason for their placement.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot304.jpg
As I climbed the ladder of the opposite side of the path I found the Kvatch guard waiting to be let in and I obliged them, however it appears not only did I allow the guards in but the Daedra also wanted out

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot305.jpg
As soon as the gate opened the Daedra came running at the guards, judging by how a Clannfear was set on fire by a scamp, they apparently have the same problem with ranged weapons that our archers have

Of course a victory in the courtyard is no reason for celebration as Matius quickly pointed out and the Count was still in need of rescue, together we charged forward into the castle and met a new type of foe (not armoured pig :p)

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot312.jpg
Seemingly made out of flame the Daedra charged me while I entered the castle and began to pummel me into submission, luckily not flinging fireballs as those annoying scamps tend to do

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot313.jpg
However that doesn't mean that Scamps had declined to show up all together...

After clearing the room of Flame Atronachs and Scamps I turned to Brother Martin for advice

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot316.jpg
We'll talk in a bit about that Martin, we seem to be busy.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot318.jpg
As Martin and I stormed into the count's room to rescue him we came across a scamp who I assumed was holding him prisoner, Our team delivered a mighty blow to the Scamp and he fell down next to the count's body

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot320.jpg
wait... count's body? oh crap..... as I searched his body I decided to take a nice ring I found and see if I could get any money for it, as I doubt anyone would miss it

As I walk back through the castle we had liberated I decided it was time for a talk with Martin

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot327.jpg
I'm beginning to doubt his abilities as an Emperor... His inauguration speech will comprise of a few grunts and a request to go back to the castle

regardless, I had a conversation with Matius in which I told him of his dead count and gave him the ring I had found (appears he would have missed it) and then proceeded to put some distance between myself and Kvatch

Mini Update: Conversation of the Damned

After getting a fair distance from the city ruins I came upon the refugee camp of those fleeing Kvatch, naturally I felt bad for these people who had absolutely nothing and may have even lost family, although that didn't stop me from commandeering a bed from one of them, during the night I recieved an odd visit

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot347.jpg

Of course I could have also raised the issue as to why Martin was standing there watching me sleep but I decided that was another can of worms I'd rather not open. Since Martin was already there I decided to ask his opinion

Following my little visit in the night I decided that I really needed a more secure place to sleep and I therefore left the refugee camp and waved goodbye to the people I had met briefly on my way to fight a battle against the armies of darkness and had somehow become attached to. On my Way to the closest Inn I began to contemplate the use of the Sigil Stone I had brought back with me

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot370.jpg

Of course I decided that I must work this stones abilities into my weaponry, somehow while standing in the middle of the road I managed to combine the stone with my sword and created a whole new item

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot371.jpg

At least I like the name..... anyway, while continuing along on my quest to sleep I met a mounted Imperial guard who I decided I could ask for directions, his response quite frankly surprised me

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot373.jpg

Thats right, Ghost Rider here had decided to fine me for a crime I have not committed, unless......

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/martins.jpg

somehow the Guards were informed to the minor theft of a repair hammer I had stolen from my tent prior to leaving the camp, but Martin was the only other person in that tent and I highly doubt he'd rat me out since hes been my best friend since I met him 3 hours ago

anyway, I agreed to go with the guard and pay the fine, he also took my ill gotten hammer but I believe I may have gotten off light

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot374.jpg

As soon as we left the prison, Martin cast 4 healing spells on himself, I have no clue how throughly he was searched but I would rather not ask. since the nearest jail to Kvatch is in Anvil I find myself suddenly thrown into a whole new world and decide to explore the town when suddenly I'm approached by a guard while wandering down the sidewalk

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot376.jpg

Well as I stated above I was simply passing the church but I'm not one who can easily ignore a challenge such as this, Martin and I ventured into the church in sheer defiance of this lowly Anvil Guard

I think I killed that daedra without triggering the "unknown forces have observed..." event.

BTW, I did find one really wierd bug in Chorrol (not sure if it was because I have a mod installed)... I was inside the Mage's guild attacking at random, and selected the door icon to leave right when I was attacked (I think - probably by a magic spell), and two NPCs walked right in front of me. Upon stepping outside, I suddenly found myself propelled maybe 2 miles high. It took forever to get back down...

@Chieftess, I've never heard of that happening, was it straight up in the air or were you caught on a piece of the building?
@Kan, thanks, I like having Martin around and almost wish he could come with me on the main quest :D

After a brief consultation with Martin (he may have mentioned Weynon Priory or something) I decided that I could not allow such a murder to go unavenged and so I left the church seeking answers, of course upon leaving I saw a man across the road preaching doom and gloom, as its in my nature I decided to talk to the crazy git

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot382.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot383.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot384.jpg

of course I decided not to ask anything about this Umaril and instead decided to just see weither or not he could be stopped, of course I assume Umaril is just a normal convict who has escaped the jail, as I myself have proven is not difficult to escape from. However the Prophet has decided I have to first cleanse myself of my sins and make peace with the gods... who I had apparently angered while killing Daedra bent upon destroying humanity.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot386.jpg

and with that statement he gave me a map that pointed out all the shines I needed to visit in order to qualify for the "crusader's relics" of course I expected this to be a rather easy quest in which I can just visit a few locations and get out quickly and then find out more about this Umaril but I was not that lucky. I decided I should probably consult with Martin about this quest before actually leaving on my way to find these shrines

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot388.jpg

See that look he has? thats Martin's "lets mess these . .. .. .. .. .es up" face.... of course he's far more crass than myself and tends to say such things.

(Writers note: It is recommended you listen to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQfqSWe8eVE) while looking at the following to get a rough effect of what was going through my mind, otherwise its just a bunch of pictures of the same shrine in different backgrounds)

(and now back to your regularly scheduled adventuring)

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot402.jpg CRAB BATTLE! well to be honest I couldn't think of a better way to come back from the intermission and found that entertaining enough on its own (I beat the crab)

As Martin and I continued along our journey we came to a bridge and met with a rather rude highwayman

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot405.jpg
As you can see over his shoulder there's an Imperial Guard who I doubt will approve of his activities and I feel confident enough in Martin, The Guard and myself against this highway man so I told him to go elsewhere for his money, he then responded as I expected

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot406.jpg
Of course Captain Stabby came out to meet my enemy who was entirely surrounded, I had his attention while Martin charged his flank and the guard had his...

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot408.jpg

Where did the bloody guard go?

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot409.jpg
of course I thank Martin for ending the conflict as his dagger, Gunner Stabby (I haven't discussed its name with Martin yet) struck true and brought the Highway man down, Later while walking along the bridge I found he guard hiding in some tall grass and he only came out when he was sure the highwayman has been defeated (he actually was hiding oddly enough)

with some luck I found another shrine and reduced the amount I still needed to two, but I met a rather nice Knight while there

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot419.jpg
He really didn't have much to say to me besides that he looked forward to our working together, I looked past him to a man behind him on a horse who claimed to be his squire

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot424.jpg
Looking at his squire I can't help but feel sorry for the Knight, what kind of feeble adventurer needs someone tagging around with them?

@Chieftess, I've never heard of that happening, was it straight up in the air or were you caught on a piece of the building?

Straight up. I thought I had fallen below the terrain into the water (it was very, very foggy in the world map, so I couldn't see anything around me). I tried swimming, then I looked down and didn't see anything initially. Then I noticed the ground coming up fast - it was maybe 50 steps away from the mage's guild.

Mini-Update

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot425.jpg

So I've managed to reduce my load to two, and luckily only at the cost of my sanity... stumbling through forests to find a shrine that can never simply be placed in a clear field and left alone.... along my travels I made a pair of startling discoveries all within a short distance of each other

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot427.jpg
Here appears to be a dead horse of unknown origin
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot428.jpg
Dead deer roughly 10 feet away

So naturally while walking through this area I was a tad cautious, what would be the next thing I see?

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot431.jpg

Now, I'm not one to gamble but this bridge is within a short walk of those two dead animals and I have seen nothing else nearby, what would be the normal reaction to this?

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot432.jpg

Thats right, pay the cat-man-thing and walk away, although once you pass him its recommended you keep facing him just in case... I have no proof this highwayman did kill those animals but I also lack proof that he didn't

luckily just over the bridge was my last shine (I know I said two but unless you want to listen to the song while I show pictures of myself stumbling through the woods its fun to play along) and I finished the pilgrimage just in time for a visit

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot449.jpg
According to my map the first relic is in a lake..... naturally I'm a little hesitant to go in as I find talking to ghosts to be a bit of a stretch but when you include the ghost telling me to go jump in the lake I tend wonder weither or I may have passed too close to the Shooma den on my way here. Since I'm the kind of explorer I am I took a running leap from the bridge closest to this lake and dove right in.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot451.jpg
Luckily I was still in my right mind and I found some ruins that I believe contain the first relic I'm searching for

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot452.jpg
Of course as can be expected due to the unspoken code of adventurer, something is always guarding whatever you came to find, since this place is largely underwater and bandits couldn't really set up camp I run into skeletons who then begin hacking away at my rather vulnerable limbs, of course between Martin and myself the skeleton had no chance at survival.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot457.jpg
As we came to the end of the hallway it would appear to be a dead end, however Martin seemed so certain that something should be on the other side of this wall and continued to stare despite my attempts to find another entrance, so naturally I decided I should trust Martin and work together to see if we could find a way through.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot459.jpg
well as staring at the wall was going nowhere I changed my mind and began searching again, I found a panel on the wall that caused the door to slide open when pressed and on the other side Martin rushed through to fight a skeleton that he sensed.... somehow

after a fair bit of wandering I came across a body and decided to loot it, as I tend to do but instead received a quest update.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot472.jpg
The helm of the crusader, the first part in my journey to collect the relics has come to and end and now as I return to the Imperial city so I can prepare for my trip for to the "Secret Knight Base TM" I leave you with a picture of Martin swimming to freedom

Following a light walk through the woods, Martin and I finally came upon the Priory of the Nine, the base that I shall hopefully stage all of my future operations from.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot479.jpg

Of course I was overjoyed to come across a house I can call my own, you can only spend so long travelling from town to town helping people while homeless before you get called something hurtful like "The Littlest Hobo" and now with a place that I can hang my helm I can wander around freely and inform those name callers that I do in fact have a house! my dream has been achieved!

Looking at the floor I noticed a rather elaborate symbol that I have not seen before, so naturally I stuck the ring I found from the old knights corpse into it somewhere and made a pleasant discovery.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot485.jpg

You have to imagine how happy/excited/pleased/hungry I was upon this discovery.... after a few minutes of standing there with my mouth hanging open, drooling slightly, I yelled to Martin "To the Nevillecave!" and we ran down into the depths below.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot488.jpg

I noticed the same pattern in the room below, however I was far more impressed with what I saw above the symbol

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot487.jpg

The epic battle of a Knight of the Nine and Umaril depicted in stained glass, I have to admit this place is far better than the place I could have bought in the Imperial City waterfront.... of course that may have something to do with the kick ass hidden staircase as well.

of course immediately upon crossing the seal in the middle of the room I was met with a rather strange occurrence

Ladies and Gentlemen.... Children of all ages.... Tonight we bring to you a 7 on 2 match, of course the 7 Knights will only fight one at a time, but will the numbers gradually give way to the skill of the two? we will find out! In the middle of the room, weighing in at 400 pounds in their armour, those wishing to land their hands upon the curiass of the crusader, Martin Septim and Neville Ryan!

Oh I apologise, Neville has just handed me a note, He'd prefer his team be called M and N for the duration of this fight....

and in a circle around the outskirts of the room, weighing in at nothing due to being Ghosts... The Knights of the Nine!

and once again... we begin the following segment with music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYVrTQwUJEI)

It would probably be better to dump the Kvatch on the floor, I don't trust containers.

Also, is it me or did those ghosts BLEED?

Captain2
Jul 24, 2008, 03:23 PM
Following my test I was told by the ghosts as to where I could find the rest of the crusader relics, well at least the ones they deemed important:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot479-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot480-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot482-1.jpg

well as much as I believe the ghosts are trying to help, they refuse to give me what I really need

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot484-1.jpg

as long as I lack pants I really don't see how armour is going to help me, unless my enemies are kind enough to avoid my loincloth and aim only for my heavily defended torso. After my above rant I decided I may as well start with the boots so that I don't have to worry about walking on rocks as very rarely do people take heroes seriously who cry while walking down a rocky road.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot485-1.jpg

as ghosty says, I have to travel to a shrine of some goddess and then ask around as to the location of the boots and after a bit of wandering I found the clearing as well as the worshippers

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot488-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot489-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot490-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot491-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot492-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot493-1.jpg

of course since this was some kind of test I decided that Martin should stay behind as I've just been told to respect nature and he does tend to stab things without hesitation, potentially creating a bad situation.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot503-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot504-1.jpg

You'd think I was leaving him to die in Oblivion with this kind of tone, I'm simply asking him to hang out with a bunch of hippies and try not to stab anything, what a gloomy bugger.

as I reached the clearing in which I am supposed to be tested I began looking around, admiring the pretty flowers, nice looking trees and giant bears of epic death...

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot496-1.jpg

As the giant Godless killing machine made its run at me I remembered seeing a special edition of the black horse courier that instructed what to do in the case of a bear attack... I really wish I had read that

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot505-1.jpg

Stricken with such fear I could only turn away and kneel, yet lacking the ability to raise my arms over my head I waited to the creature to finally kill me... I felt a couple of paw swipes over me which caused a decent amount of damage until the creature walked away

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot507-1.jpg

HA HA! I'm alive! joy!

I also apparently noticed a door according to my note, after looking around for it I finally found the door I had been aware of all along

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot509.jpg

inside I found a single room with the boots in the middle of it which I promptly took and started upon my trip to find Martin again, who was exactly where I had left him and had apparently decided to pass the time by giving the hippies dirty looks

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot512-1.jpg

now I have a decision to make, Shield, Mace or Gauntlets?

Pants first.

EDIT: Read the wiki, you can't get the pants yet >.>

Also
It is possible for one of the Knights of the Nine to be stuck permanently following your character if you ask them to follow you at the wrong point in time. Since the knights subject to this bug will also be essential when the bug is triggered, it is impossible to ever get rid of them. The bug occurs if you do the following:
Complete the entire quest line (up to the point where Umaril is killed) without recruiting all nine knights.
During Sir Thedret's speech at the end of the Umaril the Unfeathered quest, you approach an unrecruited knight, and at that time simultaneously recruit the knight and ask him to follow you.
To avoid this problem, be sure to recruit the knights either before or after Thedret's speech, and do not ask a knight to follow you immediately after recruiting them.

Jul 25, 2008, 02:23 PM
@ Sneerk, yep thats a Spriggan, they're two of them on either side but they won't attack you as they normally do when encountered

@ Scamp, thanks I'll try to avoid recruitment after I allow them membership, don't want to have them after me constantly

As I had decided to go after my shield first in hopes of defending my cloth from attack, I followed the normal course of things and consulted the ghosts of the knights as to its location

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot519-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot520.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot521.jpg

of course after a look at my map I found out that this location was an abandoned fort, why are none of these relics just buried in the middle of a field? I've love an archaeological dig....however I suppose I'll never find a use for my Fedora and whip....

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot523.jpg

Of course as I neared my target things became slightly more inconvenient as it began to rain on me, not really horrible but still a pain, luckily I was close enough to the fort that I was able to get inside before anything rusted

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot528.jpg

As I walked carefully through the dark corridors I found a Daedra off in the distance but decided that the creature should be avoided if at all possible and instead went a different route

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot529.jpg

I also decided my thief skills had been a tad under developed and I could use a bit of sneaking, I got so close to this fellow that just as I was about to slash him I noticed the sound of darts flying through the air followed by this

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot530.jpg

I really hope he hadn't been the one who set that up, of course another question was raised as to why he'd just hang around in a corridor filled with dart traps, some questions cannot be answered I suppose.

As I continued along my path, dispatching a few more spell casters I wandered around the fort hoping for an interesting looking interior in which I could have a picture of myself running and looking all determined

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot533.jpg

Of course I later realised that nobody was taking pictures and hung my head in shame as I came to a rather interesting puzzle

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot535.jpg

Using my power of deduction, and ability to hear the clinking noise that told me whenever I hit the wrong panel I discovered that the candles had been placed so as the hint towards the correct panel to press, for example

The candle is on the left side, therefore the correct panel is the furthest left
The next one has two candles on the right side, which I took to mean two from the right and so I picked the middle, apparently I chose correctly as after using this method the gate on the other side opened and allowed me through

as soon as I reached the other room the gate came down behind me, as well as a sad realisation

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot536.jpg

Maaaaaaartin! noooooo!

After a moment of heartbreaking silence I began to walk away from my friend, hoping that he'd be able to safely find his way out and that we could one day adventure together again... The Laurel to my Hardy and he was going to be leaving me....

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot537.jpg

Of course I also found a lever that raised the gate again, I composed myself and averted my gaze while approaching him for a sturdy handshake followed by a "well... hmm... that was rather.... inconvenient"

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot538.jpg

Dispatching a few more conjurers I found a man locked in a cage who, rather than call out to me, decided not to be a bother and just hope I noticed him

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot539.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot540.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot541.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot542.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot543.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot544.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot545.jpg

Of course following his release I found proof of how they tried to find information all through the next room

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot547.jpg

I really don't want to know how they'd use a scythe in an interogation.... it seems a little much though

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot548.jpg

I finally came to this bridge, which I noticed has darts that shoot into anyone passing underneath however they are timed enough that you can make a run for it if skilled enough

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot550.jpg

And apparently Martin isn't as good as Neville and was somehow knocked unconscious by the hail of darts as they shot through him, luckily as soon as I left the area they stopped firing into him and he was able to wake up and join me in the rest of my quest

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot551.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot554.jpg

I came across this puzzle which I admit had me fooled, everything is set up as it looks here, and you can rotate the four statues around.

On my first try I assumed it was meant to look like a meeting or something and so I tried to rotate them all to face that big statue so they could have their party but nothing happened so I began looking around for a clue

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot555.jpg

I found this thing on a floor and assumed it wouldn't hurt if I turned everyone to look at it, however as soon as i completed that something interesting happened as all the lights went out and a door was revealed

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot556.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot558.jpg

Of course upon entering this room I found a final puzzle in which I would walk up to the chest and grab an item

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot560.jpg

and then I would step on a panel that would display where an item should go and I would then run over and put it in the correct case, however it wasn't always the same item and took a long time before I knew where to put things

and after a decent amount of buggering around the lights went out and revealed the final room containing the item I had quested for

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot516-1.jpg

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot518-1.jpg

Content with my find I ran out of the fort into the light and prepared to make my choice between the mace or the gauntlets

The Quest for the gauntlets Part 1: The Uninvited Guests

Upon returning to my house I came across someone standing in my dining room looking at my wall... without my permission, the nerve of some people

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot533-1.jpg

Oh joy... the hippie has decided to join my order of knights, which I suppose could be useful if I'm being attacked by a bunch of corporate suits and we need to "freak out the establishment"... I forget my original point but I suppose her offer is genuine and I'm really not entitled to speak for an order that answers to the gods, I suppose if she isn't meant to join she'll get hit by lighting upon leaving the priory.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot539-1.jpg

Martin shows he isn't a fan of letting tree huggers into our midst and demonstrates this face by walking away and pouting in a corner, I suppose this is entirely acceptable since he at least has ceased giving her dirty looks that she earned after our first encounter.

Out of curiosity I decided to check the rest of my house to see if anyone else was around (I didn't expect anyone but I tend to check things out anyway) and I was rather surprised when I found this:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot540-1.jpg

I was wondering what the protocol was for finding someone who you didn't invite to your place asleep in your bed, going back to my law books and reading into Three Bears V. Goldilocks I was entitled to growl menacingly and then tear off a limb, since that wasn't quite my style I decided to wake him and ask what the hell he's doing in my place

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot542-1.jpg

Oh yeah... that guy... I didn't recognise him with a shirt and without people trying to scythe him into giving up information, I didn't actually get a choice as to weither or not he could join so I decided he'd make a great member of the team, however his next move was kind of unimpressive

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot543-1.jpg

after our talk he left the bed he had been in, walked across the room and crawled into a new bed followed by falling asleep. Not the way to dazzle new employers really, I know him for a grand total of 3 hours and besides getting locked in dungeons and sleeping I don't see him accomplishing much. I suppose I'm just cranky because I haven't slept this week.

I decided to get a start on finding out where I could find the gauntlets and went through my formerly hidden staircase to the basement so I could talk with my ghosts

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot544-1.jpg

Who the hell is this guy? I at least knew the other two but this guy didn't even introduce himself before setting up shop in my place

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot545-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot546-1.jpg

So these guys not only bust into my place and begin sleeping and checking out my stuff, but they've now decided that they should be able to set up shop in my basement?

I suppose I could stand having someone around who repairs my stuff, of course that wasn't so simple either

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot547-1.jpg

correction, They set up shop in my house uninvited, sleep in my beds, look through my stuff, do no real work, and request that I pay them to fix my weapons? its called earning your keep!

Martin! fetch Captain Stabby!

Quest for the Gauntlets Part Two: The calm before the screenie storm

While grumbling my way through the basement I decided I may as well wait until I have my full armour on before I go and teach the interlopers a lesson, the last thing I need is posters hung about the countryside warning of a pantless knight wanted for murder

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot548-1.jpg

The Ghost went on to tell me the tale of how he went to war and came across the gauntlets, however he returned changed and spent his time in a chapel, one day he had a beggar come by who continually annoyed him until he struck him and accidentally killed him. After that the gauntlets fell off of his hands and became so heavy that they could not be moved and remain upon the chapel floor to this day.

Of course while on my way to this chapel I found a rather interesting fellow

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot564.jpg

Despite my wish to go running off in search of spectres I'm apparently obligated to finish my quest for the gods... Bloody deities ruining my fun...

After coming across the correct chapel I also found my prize in one of the least heavily disguised areas ever

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot566.jpg

I felt almost insulted, where are the rotating statues? Angry Mages? Sword wielding skeletons? no, this time they've decided to simply leave their gloves on the floor where I just have to walk over and grab them.... If I can resist getting my wrist lit aflame by the candles

Of course upon trying to move the gloves I discovered two things... firstly the gauntlets had become so heavy that I could not pick them up, despite having not hit any beggars lately, secondly I discovered that popping a shoulder back into place can be quite agonising.

I couldn't find anyone who seemed to be in charge and so I went to the chambers in the chapel in hopes of finding someone, however who I found was quite odd

Upon my return to the priory I noticed that someone had taken the liberty of making use of my stables

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot625.jpg

I would normally complain about the cost of the food, straw and the commitment of taking care of these horses being dumped into my lap, however I've decided I'm never going to get along with these knights if I keep complaining about how they impose themselves upon me

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot627.jpg

And so I decided to just go with the flow and make my addition to the stable while I go inside.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot628.jpg

Upon entering I found out that someone must have been placing flyers all over the place because I had two more people inside who I had never met before

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot630.jpg

I explained to them that I had plenty of weapons but since they looked like nice people I could offer them jobs, after a few minutes of awkward looks I delivered my "Ba Dum Chh" noise and all was right with the world once again

of course I still had to get the final piece of the armour that the ghosts knew about, The Mace.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot632.jpg

apparently I could find this mace in the chapel of Leyawiin and so I set off after getting Martin from his stable, we reached the chapel by the next afternoon

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot640.jpg

As I knelt in front of this tomb I was transported to another dimension entirely

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot643.jpg

I could see the relic on the pedestal across from me, however I could not find a way across and stood staring until I finally decided to just take a leap of faith... causing a long fall to my death

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot647.jpg

Oh... or not I suppose.... I suddenly found myself supported by a bridge as I got the disturbing news that Martin has suddenly fallen unconscious, I'll save him as soon as I get that grail! Mace!

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot648.jpg

Upon grabbing the relic I was sent back to the chapel and found Martin as well as the reason he was suddenly consciously impaired

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot654.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot655.jpg

He had apparently been attacking the ghosts who occupied the under croft, they actually do not attack you unless you attack them so I really couldn't do anything for Martin but continue to follow him and watch him get knocked out a few more times.

Of course after going upstairs I noticed a whole new problem:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot656.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot657.jpg

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot659.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot660.jpg

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot662.jpg

Of course I was barely able to save those around me from being killed and was able to prevent a repeat of the Anvil chapel incident and so Martin and I set off in hopes of finally finding me a set of pants

Ahem... my plans to go out on an impressive note and end this recount with myself on top of the chapel looking out all heroic-like didn't exactly work as my vine arrows didn't drop low enough that I could climb them, sadly my backup plan of doing the same pose on a slightly smaller building across the street didn't work either

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot667.jpg

So here Martin and I are standing across the street from the chapel looking all Dark and brooding

Great story Captain

Since it seem you travel mostly by foot, I'm sure the scenery seems to get alittle dull after awhile, perhaps it's just me. There are a few mods I can recommend to you, that improve the look and feel of Oblivion:

Crowded Roads 3 Flavors

Natural Environments

Original Color Darker Nights

Illumination Within Revived

Helmet FOV

These 5 mods have increased the realism of my game immensely, maybe they will benefit your AAR.

That shouldn't occur, Since these mods are easy to install and configure and don't require maintianing. The problem occurs when you install alot of my that are incompatible with each other, which is why I wouldn't recommend house or quest mods. With the excepton of the Crowded Roads mod these are all designed to improve the aesthetics of the game.

In any case I was purely suggesting that one may like to look them up and see if it is something of interest.:)

I tried adding halls and rooms to Sercen... but the AI kept wanting to walk through the walls (it's like they'd walk towards the wall, try to walk through it for 5 minutes, then vanish). I was trying to make a bandit training area. I settled for making one an essential bandit (always pops back up).

Also, when I tried to recover The Mace, I discovered that the ghosts would attack me if I just drew my weapon. That really suprised me. Also, you have to visit Sheogorath's Shrine after the Knights of the Nine quest is over. I personally think Sheogorath gives people the coolest quests in the entire game.

Creeping through the tomb, Martin and I kept an eye out for any possible ambush, for some reason the squire decided that he'd rather hang around at the entrance and keep an eye on the horses... I suppose his Lord would be overjoyed that his death was avenged by several strangers while his squire battled with a cranky mode of transport.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot688.jpg

Martin and I quickly came across our first threat, a pit full of zombies, naturally my first reaction was fear but one look at Martin's "lets do this" face and I jumped into the pit screaming like a Daedra, As I slashed my way through two of the undead I turned to see a horrible sight

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot689.jpg

Martin had apparently fallen prey to the old "I'm a doctor, let me remove your spleen" trick that zombies will sometimes try on people and stood motionless while the undead slashed at him. I got to his aid right in time and killed the zombie immediately in front of him, causing him to snap out of his trance and get into full on zombie slashing mode.

after our bout in the pit of kick ass we continued along our route until we found the foul beast that had slayed one of my fellow knights

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot697.jpg

Martin drew his dagger and I my sword, Captain Stabby, we then ran at the wraith and began hacking away, surprisingly we did damage.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot698.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot699.jpg

As both Martin and myself took turns being set aflame I began thinking of a way to even the playing field and began searching through my pack while Martin slashed at the spectre, I luckily found what I was looking for.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot700.jpg

As I gripped the soul stone and unloaded its contents onto Captain Stabby I saw a sudden light envelop the sword that indicated that the swords ability to turn undead would be available to me, the Ghost was struck with Stabby and then turned tail and fled

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot702.jpg

As I finally cornered the Ghost and struck it down I noticed something rather sobering beside the new resting place of the evil spirit

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot703.jpg

I finally found the Squire's Lord, dead as suspected and after saying a prayer I stripped the body of its armour and left..... if the squire didn't want me to tamper with the body he would have joined us... you can't hire a thief and expect things to not go missing.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot705.jpg

With the final crusader relic I left the crypt and made my way to the surface, after a short ride back to the Priory I would finally be ready to face Umaril the Unfeather.........

The Showdown Part One: The Set up

I emerged from the crypt to find my horse dead, a wolf trying to bite me and the squire escaping on his horse... who had escaped without a bite.

After a long walk back to the priory, filled with danger, intrigue and wherein Martin discovers the true meaning of friendship we arrive to find all of the Knights gathered in the chapel by the prophet.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot717.jpg

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot718.jpg

I then become rather confused and look back

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot742.jpg

Apparently escorting the heir to the throne who will stop a Daedra invasion is no match to whatever I'm doing.... Now I'm intrigued. I'm then told that the final battle is at hand and that I should gather all of my knights and attack Umaril, hopefully defeating him once and for all, I'm then given a new ability by the prophet

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot727.jpg

So thankfully, in addition to my flame sword, gauntlets that can heal people and my pants.... that cover me.... I now have an ability that will only be useful this once, Joy...

As the sun begins to come up, the Knights of the Nine featuring Martin gather in front of Umaril's Island base

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot744.jpg

Which, if I may say, is rather lovely for someone who wishes to kill the gods.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot747.jpg

I stand next to my men and prepare to attack, I would have preferred to have arrived on a horse and delivered a stirring speech that would convince all within earshot of our commitment to our mission, similar to braveheart, however I no longer had a horse

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot748.jpg

The Showdown Part Two: Into the Breach

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot752.jpg

Following a suitable amount of dramatic buildup I looked back at my Knights and drew my sword, I then turned towards the enemy Island and ordered a charge.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot755.jpg

Despite my best attempts to keep some semblance of order during the attack, things soon fell apart and my men degenerated from well trained Knights to Raiders who would often clear a room before I could even set foot in it, I assume they may have done a better job if I'd have bothered to make sure they actually trained.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot771.jpg

After a short battle through the base I came across a large orb that seemed to do nothing besides float and glow so I did the only reasonable thing

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot772.jpg

I smashed it, leading to the opening of a door to my left, as I walked through the twisting hallways I noted a distinct lack of enemy troops that tends to lead me to become a little nervous.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot781.jpg

Of course that could also be a result of the evil figure descending upon my from a throne of darkness.

I stared up in awe as Umaril began his decent from his throne, So impressive was my foe that I almost forgot to draw my sword, Of course he knocked me out of my state of shock when he hit me with a bloody lightning bolt.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot782.jpg
(apparently my camera dislikes being shocked by evil magic)

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot783.jpg

As I backed away from Umaril he continued he would blast at me with his magic or slash at me with his sword given the chance, so much that my recollection (screen shots) is incredibly blurry from the mighty blasts.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot786.jpg

Luckily the turning point came when I decided to run away from him at full speed, hide in the corner, rummage through my backpack and drink 3-4 health potions, of course Umaril was nice enough to stay where he was once I opened the backpack, he may want to kill the gods but he's a hell of a good sport.

As I finally recharged my health, I charged straight at my foe and with a flurry of attacks I managed to finally slay Umaril.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot789.jpg

After standing above his dead body for several minutes and waiting for something to happen I finally remembered I was supposed to cast a spell to follow him into the afterlife and finish him once and for all.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot792.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot793.jpg

As I finally reached the heavens and stood across from Umaril for the final time he yelled something that could probably be translated to "what took you so long.... you forgot the spell didn't you?" he then drew his sword (that I had looted from him in his mortal form) and charged at me. I then replied with a statement of my own "I may have forgotten the spell but I remembered your weakness.... stabbing!" I should really think of becoming a writer.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot794.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot797.jpg

My plan worked out and I managed to kill Umaril... again... and made a rather poor discovery as I plunged towards earth

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot798.jpg

However I lucked out and was merely surrounded by Ghosts

Finally resigned to my fate, I did my time and left the prison but not I did not leave unscathed

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot857.jpg

I have repressed all of my memories of my time in that prison but I found upon leaving that I also forgot a pile of other skills I had, I don't want to know what happened in there that made me unable to block a sword with a shield.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot859.jpg

Feeling a sudden calling I travelled to Skingrad and then headed north, the voice inside my head ordered me to find a statue and so I walked night and day until I found the statue I was looking for

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot861.jpg

My subconscious seems to have a strange sense of humour, sending me on a long journey to find what appears to be a demon with a beer mug, however the statue did something very unusual and began talking to me.....

It told me that I was to sneak into a party being held by the countess of Leyawiin and hit them with some spell that was given to me by the statue, naturally when confronted with something like a giant talking statue ordering me to sneak into a party and hit the guests with a spell I do as I assume anyone else would, I comply

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot872.jpg

I notice that all the party guests have arrived and are sitting around the table, however the countess of leyawiin herself has yet to show, naturally I wait for her

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot874.jpg

alright...... 24 hours have passed... still no sign

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot874.jpg

another 24 hours..... the guests have yet to even get up from their seats but I'm finally awaken from my haze of boredom by the entrance of the countess

I'm beginning to believe her friends have no life, but I figure I may as well talk to the person who's worth waiting for despite a two day borefest

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot877.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot878.jpg

Bloody politicians, talking out of both sides of their mouth

I decide now would be the best time to launch my spell and get out of here before she begins speaking of her love/hatred of local hot topic/ Local Problem

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot882.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot881.jpg

ha ha! a rousing success! however I'm quickly taken in by the countesses bodyguards and thrown into jail

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot862.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot863.jpg

Apparently I committed some grave sin in my completion of the prank and now cannot wear my crusader armour without walking the pilgrim's way quest......... no bloody way

I return to deal with the statue before I decide what to do about my clothing situation

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot869.jpg

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot865.jpg

As I hang up my armour for the final time and bid farewell to the power of the gods, I forego the normal sorrow that is usually connected with such a loss

The Departin of Martin

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot862-1.jpg

After changing my armour and heading out onto the road, I decided to finally listen to Martin and indeed head towards Weynon Priory

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot863-1.jpg

As we reached the priory I noticed something was a bit off and decided to speak with one of the bystanders

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot864-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot865-1.jpg

Wait a minute, I remember these guys! NEVILLE SMASH PUNY ASSASSIN!

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot866-1.jpg

following my Shelock Holmes style identity deduction I ran in to see Jauffre only to see him locked in a life and death battle with two other Assassins who were dispatched so quickly I didn't even see it happen (re: I hit scroll lock instead of printscreen)

Departin' Martin Part 2: Damn that Jauffre taking up my maximum picture limit

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot892.jpg

As Jauffre, Martin and myself finally prepared for the trip to cloud ruler temple, I had Jauffre mark our destination on my map

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot893.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot894.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot895.jpg

Hmm.... that seems rather long....

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot896.jpg

Suddenly a wizard swooped down and teleported all of us to our destination, he then left upon the back of a dragon while playing a kickass guitar solo (sadly I once again hit scroll lock) As the doors opened to the temple we were greeted by a member of the blades

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot898.jpg

He seemed like a nice enough fellow, however he proceeded to do something I found not only impressive but also rather rude

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot899.jpg

The bugger began pushing my horse, without using his arms. I decided not to bring it up because I prefer to stay on good terms with people who have rib cages capable of pushing a horse capable of carrying great distances with no stops.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot901.jpg

I then decided to have a bit of fun with the steps and rode my horse up them and up to the front door of the temple

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot903.jpg

Oh come on guys! I just rode a bloody horse up the steps and into your midst and thats not even worth a glance?

Departin' Martin Part 3: The speech and subsequent mission or Running out of names for separate sections

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot904-1.jpg

I parked my horse in a safe area so that men with strong rib cages wouldn't feel inclined to attack it, I parked it within my line of sight but out of the way of those brutes, we then gathered around Martin for his speech to the blades

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot905-1.jpg

Still waiting for that speech Martin....

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot906-1.jpg

Well seeing as this guy is the closest thing I've had to a friend I decided to be nice and not bring up his total lack of sentence structure, words or even hand gestures and so lacking anything even resembling a speech.

"Great speech buddy!"

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot912.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot913.jpg

and with that, Martin went inside and decided to not adventure with me anymore.... some friend eh? I should really yell at him that his speech sucked

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot915.jpg

You have gigantic shoes to fill bucko....

anyway, where was I? oh...... right... mission to get back the amulet, I'd better ask Jauffre about that as he's the only one still outside and willing to talk to me

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot921.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot922.jpg

Once again I called upon my Wizard friend who swooped down upon his fire breathing dragon while managing to 100% "Fire and the Flames" on expert and carried me to my destination, a bar in the Imperial city

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot925.jpg

Inside I managed to find former blade Baurus sitting down and enjoying some kind of ale along with two carrots and a leek of some sort, its nice to see that they've finally gotten around to building a health food bar.

I looked forward to sitting down and reminiscing with him about the old times, like that time I shot him through the chest with an arrow... that Baurus is always such a card.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot926.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot927.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot929.jpg

Oh that crazy Baurus, always trying to make me believe theres a reason to fear for my life, like the time he kept threatening to stab me for following the Emperor around....

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot930.jpg

Hey wait... he might actually have a point this time.

and so I followed the strange man into the basement where he changed into his Assassin armour and tried to off Baurus, very uncool, following the subsequent stabbing I decided to go through his clothing

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot4-1.jpg

Following a long long dream in the inn I finally brought myself to speak with Tar-Meena in hopes of discovering what information could be gained from a book, she then taught me all about the wonders of the library by sending me through the various sections where I befriended a Horror Book, Fairy Tale Novel and an action book that sounded an awful lot like the late Emperor.

As someone who's worked in retail this actually wasn't too bad...

I decided I needed to find the location of the other books and therefore would need to question the fellow, he however seemed to know who I was

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot974-2.jpg

Yeah this guy is a cultist... who else would think killing a Daedra is a bad thing?

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot979-2.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot980-2.jpg

I believe I may be a Jedi... how else could telling someone to simply not play stupid work so well? This is not the book you're looking for.

After some extremely easy interrogation I was told where I could find the contact for the Mythic Dawn, I got ahold of Baurus and we set off with glee to find a doomsday cult in the sewers, hooray.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot996-2.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot999-2.jpg

Other than a few fights with Sewer Goblins we didn't find much and I really do wish that people would stop getting Goblins as pets and then flushing them down here so we adventurers looking for cultists have to take care of Snookums the Goblin.

No way, you're not going, If I gave a minor character like you the chance to sit amongst these guys I'd have your blood on my hands, this sounds like a job for a main character.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1006-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1007-1.jpg

Do you have a death wish? everytime someones says they may not make it they usually don't... oh well I suppose you've already doomed yourself so I can't really protect you. Now this is usually where my inability to see anything besides my hand becomes my weakness as I believe the Mythic Dawn sponsor suspected something was up simply due to my clothes.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1009-1.jpg

of course then Baurus began his Shenanigans and the meeting just fell apart from there

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1011-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1012-1.jpg

Of course upon seeing three of the Dawn members gang up on Baurus I had to counter his likelyhood to die by yelling "you're a loose cannon Baurus!" which increased his odds of survival as I've never seen someone called a loose cannon die in any movie, combine that with his earlier defeatism and his odds of survival had raised 50%.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1013-1.jpg

of course the battle ended after I had been forced away from my Comrade and I ran down the stairs to see how he had faired in the battle, followed by some post fight looting

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1027.jpg

I figured that those big red letters occured too often and took note of them, In each book I took the big red letter words and tried to make a sentence out of them

Book One: Greetings Reader, Enter every night Enter my palace endlessly roaring offering Red-Drink

Book Two: Whosever Answers your whisper hides enraptured recorded enslaved

Book Three: The Oath woe every new reader that once understood CHIM he endth Starlight

Book Four: May I deathlessly Deny all your Suns under nothing

I couldn't make any sense of them and decided perhaps the fellow who forgot how to put his sword away wasn't made for puzzle solving so I killed some time

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1040.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1041.jpg

I spent a day doing nothing to wait for her to come to the same conclusion I had already figured but then dismissed? After a day like this theres only one way to pick up my spirits.

@Chukchi, My problem was I had read a Holmes story prior to playing this where he had to decipher a message with the words instead of the letters, I was doing it his way :p
@Pugwash, I must admit that its an honour to be compared favourably to something I'm a big fan of, thanks
@Scamp, Thanks for the heads up :)

I continued to ponder my word problem for roughly another three hours before giving up after noticing I had also forgotten how to jump and that I was clearly in no shape to solve puzzles, I waited for Tar meena to make a discovery.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1020-1.jpg

With the clues so blatantly handed to me I ran off at once to Green Emperor way and waited until the afternoon so I could find the location of the Mythic Dawn, but Alas it was not meant to be

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1022-1.jpg

Bloody weather... I had to spend another 24 hours staring at that spire waiting for the sun to rise, sadly its not as much fun as it sounds but I did get sun the next day

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1024-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1025-1.jpg

Suddenly a thought stuck me; this thing glows every day that its sunny roughly around the lunch hours, do these cultists not expect someone taking a stroll on their lunch hour to stumble across this and then track them down without even reading their books? my excuse for not finding it sooner is that I'm a wanderer but people who live here are incredibly likely to find this thing.... oh well

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1026-1.jpg

Following a short journey to their super secret clubhouse I found the place with little problem and walked inside, finding only a lone watchman that I walked right up to in my own fearless style.

When I grabbed the book I decided to stop paying attention to the battle and look through it, such lovely pictures. With the book in my possession my only remaining duty was to leave the place alive, a feat looking increasingly unlikely as the Mythic Dawn surrounded me.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1067-1.jpg
(excuse the lack of screen shots, the fight was largely a lot of running, spell casting and slashing) I finally stood at the centre of a room full of the remains of the Mythic Dawn, my health largely gone and I had noticed that the fellow I risked my life for had died in the fight, if the rest of these cultists fought anything like those who had been in this room I would be unlikely to make it out alive, at least I had recovered my stuff from one of the bodies.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1072.jpg

Luckily they all turned out to be horrible cowards, anyone I ran into after that battle would charge into battle with a statement similar to "I do not fear death" take an arrow to the midsection and then flee screaming "Don't hurt me!" after the fourth time I gave up on sneaking and simply walked out the front door, for a doomsday cult they sure are a bunch of lightweights.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1078.jpg

My greatest victory before leaving however was a personal one, I found a statue of Dagon near the exit with offerings of food at the base that I promptly grabbed and ate in front of him.

Well not so much gratitude as "give it here before you kill all of us you dolt" so I think the fame has gone to his head, he then passed me off to Jauffre who suspected some kind of monkeyshines occurring near Bruma.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1102.jpg

Well despite my dislike of killing people who aren't really a physical threat I accepted the job and tracked down Captain Steffan who was in the same room, however for a bit of fun I poked him and then ran down the hallway to make him find me, who's the NPC now?

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1103.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1106.jpg

After investigating the runestones I noticed that I suddenly had interesting Daedra gauntlets and a dagger and no wonder spies would choose this area as a base when you're practically handing out free weapons, Jauffre would be well advised to move it within the walls of the fortress so in the event of a siege found weapons won't play a large role.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1108.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1109.jpg

Following a reasonable amount of time in stakeout mode I noticed a woman had arrived near the stone and I approached her to see if she was really a spy or simply someone who enjoys free weapons.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1110.jpg

Somewhere around the time she summoned a ghost and morphed into her Mythic Dawn armour I began to suspect I need to be more of a "shoot first..." kind of guy, but I dispatched her easily enough after countering with my patented Stay far away and repeatedly shoot her in the lung tactic.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1115.jpg

Following up my remaining lead I went to Castle Bruma, watched over by the statue of Old Man Arthurs who would often yell to passersby to stay off his lawn.... To be honest I have no proof thats what happened but those who put the statue up neglected to include a plaque and my mind has simply filled in the blanks.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1117.jpg

Wow, thats my lead? someone has come back from a trip so I must therefore go forward and make with the stabbing? I checked out my lead but again as ever the skeptic I refused to kill the poor woman until she proved she was Mythic Dawn.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1126.jpg

After sneaking up behind her and checking her for weapons using my thief skills, I found nothing and decided I should speak with her to see if she knew anything about these spies.

IIRC the artifact get's destroyed, no?

What level is Neville? I think some of the items have a level req.

I agree with the Masque or Sanguine Rose. Azura's star is very useful, and Azura seems to be a friendly Daedra (at least she is in Morrowind).

EDIT: Mace of Molag Bal is a rather useless weapon so it is one that is good to use for this quest.

@Kan, we'll I suppose we're even then, two installs of Oblivion are worth purchasing HOI2 right? :P

After a long period of thought I decided to read through a magical device I had summoned called "the Internets" for clues as to where I could find the Shrine of Sheogorath, after making extensive notes on where the shrine could be found I made a saddening discovery

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1087-1.jpg

Apparently I'd already discovered it and had just made a quarter of a page of notes for nothing... joy.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1088-1.jpg

Finally reaching the shrine I realised that very few people had pants on, I was inclined to join them but I figured I hardly had a shortage of moments without pants so I'd have to do the unexpected thing and keep them on.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1089-1.jpg

In order to get a word in with the statue I needed to find Lettuce and Yarn as I already have a Lesser Soul gem so I took off west in search of fairly mundane items

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1090-1.jpg

Suddenly feeling the urge to change my course for no reason, I went south, hooray south

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1091-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1092-1.jpg

I came across a battle between a Merchant and a Will-o-the-wisp and decided to help the poor fellow out when he suddenly ran into the woods with the wisp in hot pursuit, and of course I was chasing the wisp. Then following a horrible blow the man fell down and never got back up, the Wisp disappeared so naturally I began looting the fellow.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1093-1.jpg

(thanks for recommending the crowded roads mod) I found several very valuable ingredients on him and so took what I could carry before going back to my horse

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1094-1.jpg

I found the wisp attacking my poor defenceless horse, not willing to lose both a friend and my ride I drew my katana and charged into battle

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1095-1.jpg

Soon after I made a discovery that only magic and enchanted weapons could damage the wisp, I changed as quickly as possible and finally killed the bugger

not only are these people boring, they also don't appear to have the sense to get out of the rain and therefore lessening my feelings of guilt towards them, they're just asking for it.

The first two seem possible but I can't see how the last one could be all that bad, regardless my mission is to only replicate the first two so Sheogorath will have to just provide the last.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1133.jpg

Now I consider myself as normal as the next guy (plus voices in head) but I must admit how impressed I am with this cheese collection, it takes dedication and I decided to ask the Inn owner about her hobby.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1136-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1137-1.jpg

oh its miss plot-point, I didn't expect to see you here! but regardless I rented a hotel room and began my mission to steal the cheese

12:00 at night

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1140-1.jpg

I snuck out of my room as quietly as possible and made it over to the cheese container, I had 19 lock picks on me so I was in pretty decent shape.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1143-1.jpg

or not... unwilling to admit defeat I walked silently up to the hotel owner to check for a key

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1144-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1145-1.jpg

I've picked dozens of pockets and I've only been caught when trying to get something like a war hammer, no key eludes Neville!

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1147.jpg

Or maybe it does! luckily she didn't want to cause a scene and let me return to my room without calling the guard

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1149.jpg

my first attempt has failed and I spend the rest of the night with an inn owner pacing at the foot of my bed

Night 2, Midnight

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1163-1.jpg

Today for practice I went around the village pickpocketing and went up a skill level, nothing can stop me now

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1164-1.jpg

Her cat-like sense gives me away and I'm forced again to retreat to my room

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1165-1.jpg

The rest of the night is spent considering a career in spell casting instead

Night 3, Midnight

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1168-1.jpg

Tired of trying things fairly I've instead developed a new system of getting the key from her, a slight thwomp on the back of the head should make her sleep long enough for me to take what is mine... well hers actually. I also discover that based upon my shadow placement and utter lack of a light on that wall that she has illuminating walls, you learn something new every day.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1169-1.jpg

THE KEY IS MINE! HA HA!

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1170-1.jpg

Somewhat anti-climactic isn't it? After taking the cheese I notice the case looks rather sad while empty and I make my own contribution

I ran outside and stuck the cheese in the pot and simply needed to wait for the rats to arrive, once they do the Prophet begins sprinkling rat poison everywhere which I help myself to and then give to the sheep, resulting in dead rats and wool bearing creatures everywhere. Speaking of horses, there's an interesting horse glitch (rather, the invisible gaurd glitch).

- Make sure you have a bow and arrow and have a high enough attack to pull this glitch off.
- Find a gaurd on horseback, but make sure he doesn't see you.
- Sneak, and follow him from behind.
- Draw your bow and arrow.
- Be far away enough to have at least a x6 sneak attack, and fire at the gaurd's back/head.

Watch what happens. :)
Oh, and you'll want to observe the horse and gaurd closely.

It's similar to this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjPdmU62zj4) The way I did it made the horse slide out from under the gaurd, and the gaurd's hand was having spasms.

And we already lost one horse. :(

You are correct.

Wabbajack returns them with full health following the stint wabbajacked, so it can be used to heal the horse in times of great peril.

And it could turn your horse into a mudcrab.... And wouldn't it run away, seeing as how you kind of attack it?

Despite several good points made by the voices I decided to give up the Wabbajack to Martin, as the rose can actually be useful when you need some kind of Daedric creature to back you in a battle.... until no more enemies exist anyway, not to mention an artifact that can turn a rat into a minotaur is kind of frightening.

After giving up my weapon of mass craziness I was told to meet with Jauffre regarding Bruma, as I'm worried about losing one of the easiest robbed cities in the country I sought him out immediately. He told me that an Oblivion gate had opened up outside Bruma and that my help was required so Dr. Horse and I set off without hesitation to protect the city that is like a home to me, If I robbed my home of course.

Ever get that feeling that you're supposed to go do something with a group of people but since you weren't expressly invited you were a little reluctant to go? I had that moment right here but decided to go ahead anyway for the sake of actually getting this gate closed.

Fighting inch by inch through a symphony of flames and steel we gradually made it to the top of the spire, The Captain took on two of the Daedric guards while I snuck past and grabbed the Sigil stone

The Captain and I soon found ourselves outside of the broken gate with the bodies of our slain comrades nearly underfoot, hopefully the Bruma guard could make use of the lessons learned today and lighten the load for me.

Hey guys! what about these bodies? guys?

We're just leaving them then?

I guess they expect you to give the bodies a proper burial.

OOC: Since I never have much in the way of fun closing the oblivion gates I was determined in just glossing over it as much as possible for the sake of sanity while doing the "Allies for Bruma" quest, luckily something happened this time that I found mildly amusing

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1195.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1198-1.jpg

Jauffre decided to send me off stomping around the countryside scrounging up troops for our grand defense, I was ordered to go to the Imperial city but met with limited success

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1204-1.jpg

Apparently the Chancellor subscribes to the "London is being threatened but we can't risk losing India" system of defense, so I continued my run around to get the aid of other cities who are apparently more at ease sending troops than the entire bloody country put together.

And then Skingrad:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1216-1.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1217-1.jpg

despite being horribly rude for apparently no reason the fellow was good enough to go get the count for me to speak with

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1219-1.jpg

I understood what he meant rather well, nobody else would give me troops until I got rid of their gate so why would I expect better from a Vampire? (as if the eyes and the secrecy didn't give him away)

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1222-1.jpg

Naturally I ran right into the gate marked on my minimap, destroyed it and then returned for the troops promised to me

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1224-1.jpg

Wait... what? I have the bloody Sigil stone in my backpack, the thing is closed!

sensing the fellow was just being a tool I snuck deeper into the castle to speak with the Count personally

We had a deal! LOOK AT THE STONE I'M CARRYING! the oblivion gate on my map no longer has an arrow pointing to it!

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1232-1.jpg

I however did get payback for my work by using my thief skills to steal anything that was of value from the count's bedroom.

What of the count himself you ask?

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y156/Captain2/ScreenShot1234-1.jpg

He'll have a splitting headache and also will have learned to not welch on a deal with Neville Ryan

Tried going back to an earlier save?

Otherwise, you may have to use a console cheat to automatically finish it...

But you can knock him unconcious again.

Upon reloading the save after knocking him out it says the count may want to speak with me

apparently some things can be solved with a good ol' fashioned Club N' Loot, its too bad I already sold all the stuff I stole from him though

For some cities you may get more than one gate near them, but only one of them is the gave you're supposed to close for the quest, and sometimes it's not the closest to the city. If you close the wrong one they'll think you haven't close the gate.

I know some of the castles have multiple oblivion gates, so you have to get the right one. I think both Skingrad and Leyawinn are like that - it's happened to me before. :) They will usually have gaurds standing near them.

Oh, there's also a gate in the SW area of Cyrodil where gaurds are attacking creatures coming out of the gate.

BTW, the jabbawocky can be used on the "final boss" (which is what I call it - it just falls apart), but it doesn't change the storyline.

Captain2

yeah the quest had been broken, I made sure the arrow lead to the gate I had entered and then it disappeared after I closed it

plus upon reloading the quest fixed itself, still after the conk on the head so I get the fun of keeping that part :p
