View Full Version : Our Capital (Naming) 2
Dell19 Jul 20, 2002, 11:58 AM Here are the two choices that led after the first poll:
Regia Civitas
and
Elysium
Feel free to vote for either one, even if you voted for the other name before.
heliogabalus Jul 20, 2002, 12:56 PM There were some choices in the first poll that I definitely would have preferred to "Regia Civitas" or "Elysium". The former sounds artificial to me, and for the latter - we are not yet in Paradise! Therefore, I liked the "Crater/ Crater Lake" idea, as it is quite descriptive of the new situation at the crashed spaceship site.
Didn't you say, Dell, that you would listen to suggestions made in the first poll thread and include the names that were seconded in a new thread? It seems better and "more procedurally correct" to me if we did that and took the first 2 or 3 of this extended poll into a final, decisive poll. Or do you think most of the people have voted already and had the chance to vote for their favourite possibility?
Dell19 Jul 20, 2002, 01:32 PM Most people had voted, I believe. Any new suggestions did not seem very popular and no one objected when I suggested created a second final poll with just two options so I thought their were no new contenders.
heliogabalus Jul 20, 2002, 02:53 PM alright. we'll have some more cities to name soon...
starlifter Jul 20, 2002, 04:52 PM Tight race.... dead heat :).
anarchywrksbest Jul 20, 2002, 05:09 PM Come on Regia Civitas!!
I don't know how anyone can vote for Elysium, some people have a funny idea about how an empire should look. We are (hopefully) going to create a Global Empire that will conquer all before it but people will fear us less if our capital sounds like some sort of dodgy health drink. Its like the time some people tried to call my province Ariel in the last game!!
"The Peoples Capital" - REGIUS CIVITAS.
Think latin, think Rome, think Empire........
Kev Jul 20, 2002, 05:51 PM For some reason, I am unable to vote. I'm getting the message that "this action cannot be done" or something.
Just add one more to Elysium and I'll refrain from actually voting in the poll (so as not to have 2 votes).
Dell19 Jul 21, 2002, 02:48 AM Okay so its 7-5 to Elysium so far, which means that the result from the last poll has been turned around so far although there are more people to vote.
Ren Jul 21, 2002, 03:25 AM I still wish it were Alpha, but now I'll go with Regius Civitas :)
kmad Jul 21, 2002, 05:10 AM i know!! call it eminem69
anarchywrksbest Jul 21, 2002, 09:26 PM I think there is such support for both these names that our second city should be named after whichever is the runner-up....
Dell19 Jul 22, 2002, 02:12 AM That would be a good idea, but it does loook like Elysium will win because we need to add Kev's vote to it.
anarchywrksbest Jul 23, 2002, 11:59 AM As Keeper of the List of City Names I am concerned that right now there appears to be a draw
Regia Civitas - 13
Elysium- 12 (plus Kev's vote)=13
One more vote will swing it but in which direction.......
MonkE Jul 23, 2002, 12:44 PM With all the names in the registry, I can't believe there are only 26 votes!
Being new in town I don't want to make any enemies. :)
So I flipped a coin... :goodjob:
It picked Elysium.
So now the Regia Civitas fans can mobilize the Silent Majority.
Isn't democracy great?
starlifter Jul 23, 2002, 08:40 PM What about a compromise:
Regi+sium = Regisium
anarchywrksbest Jul 23, 2002, 08:43 PM NO!! Do not butcher my brilliant latin
Dell19 Jul 24, 2002, 03:24 AM Elysium still leads because of Kev's vote that doesn't appear on the actuall poll.

I like it :D
This is Alpha Centauri, after all, there is no latin
ambuel Jul 24, 2002, 01:53 PM Well, it said that it couldn't do the action or something to that affect. So, I vote for Regia Civitas. The other sounds sort of like assylum. Hmmm...nevermind....

LOL, that's part of what I though, too, but just didn't want to say that Assylum and Elysium sound pre-t-t-y similar ;).

From this i gather that we have another unseen vote. So it cancels out Kev's vote and we again have a stalemate. Bloody hell this is never going to be sorted........
Dell19 Jul 25, 2002, 02:42 AM Unseen votes are annoying as we do not know whether their vote has actually been counted. In the end I may flip a coin or something to see which name we should have for our capital.
ambuel Jul 25, 2002, 06:27 AM sorry, my mom always accused me of not having any tact. that might have had something to do with the fact that when she first said it i was about 14 or 15 and trying to assert my independence....then again, i try to tell it like it is. After all, this will be the capital and we needs to be something impressive!
starlifter Jul 25, 2002, 10:04 AM @ambuel: I like it! :goodjob:
Leowind Jul 25, 2002, 12:11 PM Regisium, Regisium, Regisium
this is a Democracy, lets compromise! (I didn't say it was an *American* style democracy ;) )
anarchywrksbest Jul 25, 2002, 12:26 PM I'm starting to think Regisium is a good idea but i'm going to hold out for the chance of anothher vote or the 50/50 flip a coin chance for Regia Civitas........
starlifter Jul 25, 2002, 03:05 PM Well given what a close vote it is and has continued to remain, maybe the Regisium name is a solution after all. A unique & pretty cool sounding combination of both names.
Well, we have to have a capital name. Maybe a yes/no poll asking if the combination name (e.g, Regisium) is acceptable. If yes, then use it. If not (or another tie), then probably the Council should decide. If they deadlock, the President should. If the President deadlocks with himself, then ... ? ;)
Kev Jul 25, 2002, 03:32 PM One of the "perks" of being President should be final choice in all city naming. With the case of the capital name, should there still be a deadlock then let the President decide as he begins play.
We'll see if the president suffers any ill effects if he tries to run for reelection. :)
anarchywrksbest Jul 25, 2002, 04:28 PM Let the President suprise us!
Zwelgje Jul 26, 2002, 12:19 AM Regisium would be fine with me too, just a combination of the two. ;)
Dell19 Jul 26, 2002, 02:38 AM Time for the coin to be tossed...Well actually its a disk, top with the label for Regia Civitas otherwise its Elysium, unless it lands on its edge... Well the first roll landed diagonally so now for the second roll. And it landed with the label showing so our capital will be called Regia Civitas. Don't you just love democracy ;)
anarchywrksbest Jul 26, 2002, 12:19 PM Yay!!!! Thats almost like the Presidential election in Florida ;)
Leowind Jul 26, 2002, 12:30 PM I'm sad Regisium got left out of the final deliberations :(, but that IS just like American elections: only two choices, and if there is a third party candidate, s/he doesn't stand a chance in hell even though s/he is usually preferable to the "official" two choices
NEway, I can live with Regia Civitas (Like I'd have a choice, right ;) )
P.S. No slight or libel is intended of our glorious leader Dell in regads to his handling of this, our first potential controversy in the NUF. Just playing along and poking fun at whatever targets present themselves:satan: (and American politics is such an easy target)
Dell19 Jul 27, 2002, 02:27 AM Well we could have kept on having recounts and new polls but in the end the only fair way to decide was to flip the disk...:)
Becka Jul 27, 2002, 01:14 PM I voted Regia Civitas, but both names remind me of the movie "Evita" in some way or another.
heliogabalus Jul 29, 2002, 09:12 AM (Becka being reminded of a certain Argentinian authoritarian politician's wife by the choices of our capital's name)
Now, is that good or bad? Does our capital have a musical sound to it or is it a synonym for populism?
(Hoping for the former)
:D
heliogabalus
Becka Jul 29, 2002, 09:34 AM Let's see....
Don't cry for me Regia Civitas!!!!
I like it. :D
starlifter Jul 29, 2002, 10:32 AM @Becka & heliogabalus: LOL! :)
heliogabalus Jul 30, 2002, 02:26 AM Becka: It's definitely singable (is that a word?).
Angelscotboi Jul 30, 2002, 06:30 AM I dont know whether to laugh or shake my head at u lot...lol
ambuel Jul 30, 2002, 08:24 AM I say we run with it. A little music couldn't hurt, right? Lighten the mood and maybe some dancing? what's that saying, "It's all fun and games till somebody looses and eye" or something like that?
