View Full Version : no training yard for sheaim?
SiLL May 22, 2008, 07:59 PM So as the title suggests am I playing the Sheaim right now and after Champions were discoverd as a new more effective way of warfare by my rivals I'm facing the issue of not being able to build them by myself. I meet all required ressources/technologies except one building: training yards.
But I have just finished Heroic Epic which actually requires training yards, but still I don't have any, they just don't show up at the building menu.
I am confused
Can anybody bring some light into the dark? As I might have missed some game changes I hoped there would be a rather simple solution, like Sheaim not being able to build training yards (which would be a huge disadvantage by the way).
MagisterCultuum May 22, 2008, 08:09 PM The Sheaim cannot build Training Yards, and also cannot train any Melee units beyond Warriors, except for their Pyre Zombie UU. Even if you had the training yards available, you have NONE as your UU for Champions, Axemen, Phalanxes, etc., and so could never build them. As the Sheaim, you are supposed to be relying on Summons and (free) Planar Gate units.
Whenever a unit or building requires a BUILDINGCLASS_X and the UB for that buildingclass is NONE, then these prereqs are ignored.
The Sheaim may have some disadvantages, but they are one of the strongest civs if played correctly. They are a very militant builder civ, since their armies spawn on their own (with a high enough AC and the building requirements) instead of needing to be built.
Zobo May 23, 2008, 02:42 AM You can get the religious path Eidolons, Beasts of Agares (because you ARE ashen veil) too.
Mounted units I think are ok too. I think you get bowmen for defense, including arquebus, but don't quote me - Sheaim is not my favourite (not because any perceived weakness - they are not weak).
The Sheaim is a military powerhouse, trust me. Just build planar gates and the buildings that summon stuff from the gates and you're golden.
I'd also build loads of mages. Death and fire primarily. Even as adepts they get skeletons and contribute to your fighting prowess.
Amerigo Arturo May 23, 2008, 02:50 AM Make sure to put planar gates in your cities as soon as possible, the sheaim are awesome. Succubus, Chaos Marauders, revelers, Morbius Witches, Minotaurs, Tar Demons, are all awesome and free units you can get. Sure you can't get immortals....but Aboshi really makes up for it.
Sto May 23, 2008, 06:54 AM With the tower of necromency and a priest, the diseased corpses are far from being worse than the champions .
mahazel May 23, 2008, 11:33 AM You should get OO as fast as possible, so you`ll have a possibility to build Drowns instead of axemans, and Stygian Guards are better than Disease Corps. Of course you can switch to AV in any time.

Not the best suggestion....
The Sheaim replacement for axemen is the pyre zombies, who are much better than drown.
The pyre zombies explode on death so can easily damage large stacks of units that would overwhelm the same number of drown...
And after weakening the enemy stack with their explosions it is easier for mages to finish them for the xp...
SiLL May 24, 2008, 05:54 PM I have to agree, pyre zombies are a very nice alternative to axeman.
Anyway, thanks a lot for the quick answers. I hate if something dosn't work as I would like it to and I don't know why ;)
