Hey, I didn't want to clog the v0.32 bug post, but I can't download 0.32 AND I NEED IT!

I've tried Firefox
http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=177770&stc=1&d=1211550683
and IE,
http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=177771&stc=1&d=1211550683
I've created an account an logged in, nothing seems to work.

Any advice? I took the day off work...

Hydrahypnotizer

I suggest we wait a little while, so the rabid hordes of downloaders calm down.

JohnNorth
May 23, 2008, 09:19 AM
Suggestion:

Maybe those of us who allready have the installer could send it to three or four other people via ICQ or skype before start playing

This way the new version could be distributed much faster without crashing gameflood.

My ICQ: 243036619

as far as I have an installer I will post it here so you could send me a message and I will send you a copy.

I'm snowed because if I can't download it now before I get off work I can't play it when I get off as I have no internet access at base camp. Curse you gameflood!

Hydrahypnotizer
May 23, 2008, 09:32 AM
I can place it on my apache server here. I don't have ICQ though...

I have a msn account, so if you wanna send it to me give me a message.

Alrighty, here's my server: 78.69.163.41

So, if anybody wants to send me the installer i can host it there; i have a rather fast connection.

My MSN name is Trapezohedron@hotmail.com

Having trouble too, so if someone would be willing to share it via torrent or a similar way, I'm open for suggestions. ^^

smjjames
May 23, 2008, 09:59 AM
I don't have MSN, or torrent. Still, if it would be possible to host it on an acessable site or something, that would be good.

thewyrm
May 23, 2008, 10:21 AM
It will now work if you use the gameflood downloader, but it is going crazy slow. Post a reply here if you ever get it on your server hydra, because I will still be downloading it when you do.

There's gotta be a way to get a bit torrent started for this.

thomas.berubeg
May 23, 2008, 10:54 AM
Yeah, can someone who's succesfully downloaded it upload it to filefront or something?

Fenboy
May 23, 2008, 11:00 AM
I'm having the 2kb download problem too. This is the first time I've had a problem with gameflood, and I suspect its 'coz of all the hordes of FFHers.

thewyrm
May 23, 2008, 11:03 AM
I have been downloading it for 2 hours now and I am at 65%. I'm running out of time before I get off work! Grrrrr!

tiberion02
May 23, 2008, 11:14 AM
I've been unable to download any FFH2 packages off gameflood for at least a month now, and I thought it was an isolated issue.

hbar
May 23, 2008, 11:21 AM
hey thewyrm, thanks for the heads up, I got it with the download manager. I'll send it to whoever I'm able to figure out how to

thomas.berubeg
May 23, 2008, 11:22 AM
Can you upload it somewhere else, please?

Bastian-Bux
May 23, 2008, 11:28 AM
hbar, simplest way would be to get a torrent client, and seed it as a torrent. And then post the torrent here. ^^This way everyone waiting could get it and help distribution at the same time.

Capn Charlie
May 23, 2008, 11:40 AM
yeah, seriously, bittorrent has like three legal uses, and this is one of them. Can someone get one started?

MondSemmel
May 23, 2008, 11:43 AM
I have the same problems as others reported in this thread - the gameflood download doesn't work at all. I tried installing the gameflood download manager but it did nothing at all - and I couldn't figure out how to use it to download stuff from gameflood (besides, chances are it wouldn't have worked, either).

If somebody was able to download the mod problemlessly, we'd be much obliged if they could upload it somewhere else (if they have a somewhat fast internet connection). Here's a brief how-to:

To upload the file on filefront, go to http://uploadhosted.filefront.com/. In "Select File Location", select the file for FFH II 0.32 (the one you were able to download without problems, it's probably 200-300 MB big). Click on "upload file". LEAVE THIS WEBSITE OPEN until the upload is finished. Then a new page opens giving you the link to the upload, e.g.

"Want to share your files with your friends?
Link them to:

blah.txt:
http://files.filefront.com/blahtxt/;10318311;/file"

(The site also asks you whether you want to register, but that's not necessary, as far as I know)

Please post your link (which should look somewhat like that) in here. I'm sure we'd all be very grateful :).

i got it downloaded and im gonna give uploading to filefront a try, tho my upload rate can suck sometimes especially during the day and ive been up for 24+ hours i think so not sure if im reliable heh

Edit added: so far not looking good, getting horrible upload that will take 8 hours to upload it.. only took an hour or so to download O_o

May 23, 2008, 11:54 AM
I'll try uploading it to FileFront if no one else does.

Edit1: Ok, i'll try...just testing out the install then I'll try uploading mine.

Edit2: Ok..uploading at 360-433kbps...~2 hours =\
I'll go out for a coffee and check back in an hour.

Edit3: Good news is that my upload is still going with only 50mins left.

May 23, 2008, 12:42 PM
is there any way for me to join Phunk's torrent? I have the file and I'd be willing to seed, but I don't know how to without re-downloading the file through the torrent

THanks in advance!

Hydrahypnotizer
May 23, 2008, 01:11 PM
Randolph:

You can use https://www.proxify.com
as a proxy, and then download the torrent. It's encrypted, so it's hard (impossible?) to block.

Randolph
May 23, 2008, 01:18 PM
Thanks hydra, but the fascists here seem to have managed to block it (along with all the other proxies that I’ve heard of):

The Internet site you are attempting to visit has been blocked to all CCHS employees. It is not a business related site. CCHS Policy #811 permits access to the Internet only "To facilitate access to business related information and in support of hospital business."

THis is most certainly a medical issue: serious withdrawal!
[edit] got the file, thanks phunk! [edit2] and Jens, very helpful community here!

I guess it would be a good idea to distribute via torrents from the start... at least for the first couple of days after a major release.

Seems the FfH2 fanbase is a little too big for gameflood to handle

Yeah, I thought about it again and checked mininova and there it was, I've already got utorrent, and it's coming down fine. Really, I think relying on gameflood is so yesterday now, we will probably want to start distributing it through torrent always, collectively our FFH fan bandwidth is way better than their petty little servers.

smjjames
May 23, 2008, 01:49 PM
I've got about 45 minutes or so on ETA and 12 % complete, and I started maybe 10 minutes ago. I guess if you have a fast connection, it will go quickly. So whoever said 5 hours, I beat ya, lol.

smjjames
May 23, 2008, 01:53 PM
It's kind of flunctuating between 70 kbs and 115 kbs, then again, I am on wireless which does slow down the transfer a little (depending on location), but still fast. It actually peaked up to 160 just now. I'm not sure what is causing the flunctuation, but still.

As your peers download, there are more packets available which they can upload, which increases the possible download speed of everyone else. :)

Well, you always upload the parts of the file that you already have. You become a seed when you have the complete file and just upload it to others. :D

For the moment at least, there is only 1 Torrent out there. Kael's main reason for not liking Torrent as a Distribution method is that it would be too easy for someone to slip a virus into the package and upload it, claiming that it is legit.

I would request that someone posts a checksum (md5 or whatever type you prefer) as an attachment so that people can verify their copy is indeed only what would have come from Gameflood. That should help ease some potential fears people might have.

(That said, thanks for torrenting this. I've always had issues with GF myself, though I do get it eventually. Just wish I could run my torrent program at work :()

smjjames
May 23, 2008, 02:11 PM
Maybe we can use a dedicated BitTorrent for stuff like that, although once the mass download rush slows down, gameflood should start working again.

Either we need to find a different primary file host or we can use bittorrent as a backup for the first couple days.

The Doc
May 23, 2008, 02:15 PM
@xienwolf: Maybe Kael can post the MD5-checksum of the installer. :dunno: Here is a simple MD5 sum checker: click (http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/winmd5sum_portable)

xienwolf
May 23, 2008, 02:18 PM
Downloading from Filefront for now (thanks for uploading it there!), when I get a copy I'll post an MD5 in the Proper Installation guide. I have all 3 download options linked in there (the 2 non-officials are linked at the bottom of the first post though, as will be the MD5 later)

May 23, 2008, 02:18 PM

I'm using the same bittorrent that everybody else is using though, and it seems ok. I understand why you would be worried though.

I would use Filefront, but I'm over 68% with torrent, although the ETA shot up to an hour :P . It seems to be uploading more of it back up than downloading in atm. Still, I started already, so why scrap the progress it has.

FFH could be distributed via a professional site like sourceforge, i wonder gameflood cant handle that, the worst is they're just putting a 404 on that page and thats it.

Actually I'd love it if the mod were done through an SVN on Sourceforge, then patches could be small tweaks and whatnot fairly easily. Quite fond of SVNs since i started using them a little while ago.

Thanks for the torrent, I would Highly recommend a official Torrent distribution by the team for future releases!

http://www.mininova.org/distribution
What is Content Distribution?

Content Distribution is a new service of Mininova which allows content creators to easily publish and distribute their content for free. Mininova sponsors the required seeding bandwidth and provides the exposure on the website. Advantages for users include higher quality premium content availability and higher transfer speeds, without additional costs. Distributed content is marked as "Featured torrents" at the Mininova front-page.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
will seed most of tonight, even though its very thoroughly seeded atm.

Thanks again to the Team and the Community!

thanks a ton for the torrent. I wonder how many other mods need a torrent to make sure there's enough to go around...

and out of curiosity I think it would be interesting if someone made a poll to see how people downloaded .32: Gameflood, Torrent, FileFront, IM/PM, Personal Server, "Didn't have to--I made it"

Thank you all for the Torrent! Phunk is my hero!!

Not sure if the counters work (I imagine there will be some false starts) but the counter for this Torrent reads 371, Gameflood 688.

A thousand plus down loads on the first day (less than a full day - 15 hours?) - that's pretty amazing!

The Team should definetly put this on their CVs.

Oh lord! I am hooked - I capitalized the T in Team.

hi guys

i am a follower of FfH for some time now. Needless to say that this is one of the best mods ever. You can read this all over the forum and i sign every comment on that. Thx for creating this jewel, Kael :goodjob:

But the reason i write here is that gameflood is a real pain... sure most ppl here agree to this. I always had problems getting new versions, which most likely has to do with my rather slow internet connection. This time it was the way that i got the dl to start, without dlmanager, at about 75% of max. dlspeed. 3 hours it should take. By the time the dl was at 18min remaining i went for a shower. When i came back i saw this ugly message about server reset and failed download...
Thats just the last chapter in a row of painful dls (and failed dls) of FfH:cry:

And now i see the torrent link which is the solution for me (and for slower ics without downloadmanager in general, i think). So my suggestion is that the next new version is released parallel as a torrent. Doing this would save guys like me much time and nerves. Another positive effect is that it spreads faster instead of crushing servers the more ppl get it.
After all i get it now via torrent, sooner or later (supposably sooner than via gameflood :crazyeye:)
Cant wait to play it.

greetings

Just an FYI, I really appreciate people uploading the mod and getting it out there. Personally I dont like torrents, but Im thankful that its available and everyone helped out.

On my side Ive tried uploading to 5 different websites. And with each the download either fails just as it gets done, or I can upload it fine but I cant post it publically. Very frustrating.

Im still going at it now, despite breaking 6 hours while I slept my computer has been in a process of constant uploads for the past 20 hours. Hopefully this last one that will be done in an hour is the last.

Sorry for the pain getting to it, Im hoping it will be over soon, and thanks again to the people that helped out.

Kael
May 24, 2008, 11:10 AM
Woohoo! It finally worked. The last of many problems was that I was running out of space on the server, so anytime the upload finished it would go back and refuse the transmision, starting the whole process over.

Regardless its up and working through the normal links, let me know if you have any problems.

Yeah, for the initial release bittorrent definitely seems like the way to go. It has the least reliance on any individual person or server, and the greatest ability to meet an unknown demand. Gameflood and the like is great for the long term availability of a file, but clearly there are too many rabid FFH2 fans for us to depend on any one site's relability, capacity, compatability, and availablity to all users (immediately!). A new release of FFH2 is really a viral event and we need to harness web 2.0 techology to deal with i!
