View Full Version : The Peoples Republic Of China
T!ck May 24, 2008, 08:50 PM I've been playing a lot of El Justo's Cold War Fifties Mod recently. For those of you unfamiliar with it, you should definitely check it out! (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=108268)
I started a game of TCWfifties as China/North Korea and thought I'd share the details and events of it here. So here it is, I'm playing on Luitenant, which is the equivalent of Monarch.
http://speakingoffaith.publicradio.org/programs/ancheemin/images/posters/1950-sl_ec06.jpg
Chapter One
We begin in Week 1, 1950, in an economic hellhole, freshly out of civil war and desperately needing industrialisation. The economy stinks, we're loosing 96 gpt, and we still need to beef up our military, plus science must also remain a priority if we are to keep up in a world with no tech trading/stealing.
Drastic measures are called for, so all cities are set to build financial improvements. We are researching International Organisations, which will arrive in 7 turns and allow us to gain/build UN membership (increase in shield production etc). Science clearly needs a boost, but it will first have to wait til our economic woes subside.
Here is a (slightly dodgy) shot of China-NK circa turn 1.
http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/5584/94167289ks0.png
Before the end of the turn I do some recon with my limited air force and fortify some basic units in each town for defense purposes.
Next turn several cities grow, which reduces our defecit to -82 gpt. Any reduction is a bonus, but soon we will be out of money if our economy doesn't improve, and then improvements in cities will start to be lost.
To add insult to injury, France demands we hand over 20 gold IBT.
http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/5017/95170645bo5.png
I comply, as much as I want to liberate the people of the French colonies that border me, it is not worth being bombed into the ground by NATO just for the sake of keeping 20 gold.
By Week 7 (turn 4) the defecit has reduced to -61 gpt but I have lost the business district in Dalian. However, in the next turns the economy continues to improve as I begin to convert all unhappy citizens into taxmen.
Eventually, by Week 19 I have a surplus of money, due mostly to the taxmen. This situation can only improve as the financial institutions I began building earlier will soon be completed, increasing revenue even more.
Unfortunately, the USA also realise this and ask me for 20 gold tribute, to which I give in, we are still not ready for war, especially when US occupied Japan is within range of bombing our strongest cities with their huge airforce.
Week 21
http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/3065/73771759po7.png
More production benefits etc. Things are starting to look up. For now at least.
Week 29
http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/9030/32979766yb5.png
So the west begin a war against the USSR. Naturally, we will dragged into this next turn as everyones mutual protection pacts kick in. I therefore move some troops to strengthen our border with South Korea and also I station some units outside Hong Kong.
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/9647/48455088xf7.png
If the city can be liberated from British rule it will mark the start of a great future for China as reunification begins!
Taniciusfox May 25, 2008, 02:36 PM Good job so far, it always is so fun playing as Communists...not only do their armies look more cool, but they offer the oppurtunity of a 'what if' scenario...
Good luck waging the Korean War. : )
T!ck May 25, 2008, 02:43 PM Chapter One, cont.
Week 31
War preparations continue. All the other 'Blue' Civs declare war on the Soviets. Israel and several others declare war on us due to their mutual protection pacts. Also this turn, we discover Main Battle Tanks, which will allow us to build more T-34/85 tanks, several of which we start with, but were unable to build until now.
IBT - All remaining 'Blue' nations declare war on us. British Ships and Carrier leave Hong Kong. 2 Infantry move out of Seoul, next to our stack by the border. Soviet Navy moves between South Korea and Japan. Shanghai is bombed by American, British and other nearby 'Blue' nations, luckily the only damage is to the defending units, no buildings are destroyed.
Week 33
My stack on the Korean border neutralise the Korean Infantrymen, no losses for us.
We move into British territory and attack Hong Kong. Our Howitzers soften up the two defending Gurka Infantry. We lose a NK Infantry and a PLA Infantry in the attack but the defenders are no match for our T-34/85 tanks. Thus the city is liberated, we capture a British worker who is sent immediately to build a road to Fuchou. It is a glorious day for China, the event giving hope to millions that in the future, China will be united again as one country.
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/7029/93844334jz1.png
Week 37
Unfortunately, despite the victory at Hong Kong, no further gains are made. The NATO countries, continue to bomb our cities into the ground, the Americans decimating improvements in Fuchou and Shanghai. The British have been bombing, and continue to bomb Hong Kong, their own former city, killing many of the population - their own people. Possibly due to this, the resistance in Hong Kong soon ends, with citizens accepting Chinese rule after seeing the genocidal activities of their former government.
http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/6042/50960026ab4.png
Another positive is the discovery of Anti Submarine Warfare. However, the sooner this war ends, the better.
Week 43
The war is really starting to damage us now, cities are being bombed by just about everyone in range, the coast of Japan has become some sort of gathering place for Air Craft Carriers, where on earth is the Soviet Navy when you need it?
Several cities have lost financial and industrial improvements in the bombings, one notable loss is the destruction of the North Korean Baracks in PYongyang, a pre-placed improvement that auto-built the NK Infantry units.
The battle of Seoul was a catastrophe, after valiantly defending our border from the attacking forces of South Korea. Our troops were massacred in their charge to capture the city, evidently the garrison at Seoul was greater than we expected.
However, the ground war in the South West has gone well, with our troops preventing the advances of SE Asian and Israeli forces towards Hong Kong and Kunming.
Week 47
Finally, after the heaviest bombing runs yet in the war, a peace offer is made.
http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/2558/10ha1.png
We accept, ending all hostilities between our two alliances. This comes not a moment too soon, when we look at the NATO threat, off our coast.
http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/5916/11sk2.png
The war has cost us dearly. We must now rebuild our military and repair our most damaged cities. The Chinese people are defiant though, the liberation of Hong Kong and China's survival against the odds have inspired them, their nation has a great future.
Week 49
All naval forces have retreated, the world is once again at peace. And with the discovery of Axial Flow Jet Engines, we enter 1951.
Taniciusfox May 25, 2008, 03:12 PM Despite the war being a Pyhrric victory, it certainly was still a victory. : ) Looks like Hong Kong will benefit you with it's enormous population. It will also secure your position a little more, one less potential place for the Allies to airlift units to. I wish you luck in rebuilding, and once China's prosperity returns, I hope you go about restoring the Chinese Empire of old...South Korea and Vietnam will be excellent satellite states to acquire....just make sure you use the lame(yet still legitimate) excuse that they are historically Chinese possessions!
T!ck May 25, 2008, 06:58 PM Haha, yes, I will be sure to expand some more as soon as I have enough troops to make such skirmishes possible.
I wasn't expecting war this early, but I think capturing Hong Kong made it worthwhile, and much of Seoul's garrison was destroyed. I definitely need some sort of airforce to be built in the near future though, thankfully several cities are now ready for fast military production.
I've been reading your German Reich thread, very enjoyable. :)
T!ck May 26, 2008, 05:10 PM Chapter 2 - 1951
Week 1
Not much going on. Hong Kong is unhappy so some etertainers are created.
Week 3 - Nothing.
Week 5
http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/5531/12bw5.png
http://img367.imageshack.us/img367/7696/13nb6.png
Beijing starts building an Anti-aircraft artillery unit as a pre-build for the Flight Airspeed Record wonder that will become available with Improved Airframes. (And grant us two free advances).
Week 7 - Nothing.
Week 9
Lhasa has disorder, the unhappy citizens become taxmen.
Week 11 - Nothing.
IBT -
http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/8708/14xn2.png
Americans build that. IIRC it spawns M46 tanks every so often. Not so good for the Soviets.
Week 13
http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/5065/15gv1.png
With the arrival of Improved Airframes, Beijing begins the Flight Airspeed Record, to be completed in 7 turns.
Week 15
Disorder in Hohhot, MM some entertainers.
Week 17 - Nothing.
IBT- Arab League demand 100 gold. I tell them to get stuffed. Turns out they were only bluffing.
Week 19 - Nothing.
IBT-
http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/5756/17pp3.png
Week 21 - Nothing.
Week 23 - Nothing.
Week 25 - Nothing.
Week 27
http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/1442/18fk4.png
And even better, I don't have to wait for 4 turns because...
Week 29
http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/6366/19ic9.png
This grants us two advances. I get Jet Age Aircraft Carriers and Structural Engineering as the free techs. We start on Adv. Diesel Electric Engines, expected in 5 turns.
Beijing begins building tanks.
IBT-
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/7601/21xk8.png
Week 31 - Nothing.
IBT- Americans build Mainframe Computer Plant in New York City.
Week 33 - Nothing. (Yes, not a lot happens in this game ATM) :)
IBT-
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/3663/23vg5.png
Should make things a bit more interesting. Or not, seen as the Arabs fail to show up at our borders til the end of the year.
Week 35 - Nothing.
IBT-
http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/5563/24wx6.png
Week 37 - Nothing.
IBT-
http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/3513/26xh0.png
This one is a lot more worrying than the Arab declaration. I decide to do a little spying on cities before the war begins proper, a luxury I wasn't able to enjoy last time due to not discovering espionage til after the war.
Week 39
I investigate the garrison of Seoul, where we suffered a defeat in the previous war.
http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/3914/27bp9.png
The odds look more in our favour this time due to the lack of ground troops defending the city. I send a force of 3 regular T-34/85s and a single Howitzer to contain any troops that try and enter North Korea.
I also investigate the American city of Sasebo, Japan.
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/7463/29xk8.png
I decide to try my luck and rush a transport convoy in Shanghai, ready to load with tanks and assault the city. The plan is that if we can take the city, out of vengeance for the constant American bombings during the last war, it will draw the attention of the Americans away from our mainland. They will then bomb their own city, instead of the glorious cities of China.
IBT- Everyone declares and just like last time Shanghai recieves the bulk of the bombings, loosing a population point amongst the injuries of the defending units. Most of the bombers are American, though the East Asians also bomb PYongyang. Seeing this attrocity from their position on the Korean border, PLA commanders decide that Seoul must be taken in retribution for this hideous act.
Week 41
I land 3 T-34/85s and a Howitzer outside Sasebo, the same size of the force that is stationed outside of/attacking Seoul.
http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/2654/30xc3.png
The PLA Howitzers pound Seoul, weakening its defence before the tanks arrive.
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/2627/31rx1.png
As the tanks destroy the last of the defending Korean units, the transport ships and aircraft are nowhere to be seen, it is suspected that they escaped during the night heading for the relative safety of Taipei. Not that this matters, with Seoul annexed, South Korea is now part of the Chinese Communist Union.
http://img66.imageshack.us/img66/2527/32cb0.png
However, news of this victory will not reach the rest of the country til after the war, due to fears of a massive loss of life should the people leave their homes to party in the streets. The threat of US bombing runs is still too heavy, instead the people are urged to remain in their homes or workplaces at all possible times.
IBT- More Bombings, no serious losses.
Week 43
The Battle of Sasebo commences, one tank is lost and the other two are redlined, but the garrison is reduced to a single infantryman. However, due to increasing threats from allied forces near Hong Kong, no further reinforcements can be spared from the mainland. The plan is abandoned, but at least we now know Japan's weak point.
IBT-
http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/9070/33fg1.png
In other news, bombing continues. No serious losses, but it is ridiculous how many bombers the allies are sending, I went for cigarette and came back to the computer before the AI had completed its bombing runs.
Week 45 - Nothing.
IBT- Allies land some paratroopers by Kunming.
Week 47
Paratroopers destroyed.
Week 49 - Nothing.
Week 51
I decide I am fed up with being bombed by the allies, the agression in this war is very one-sided.
I approach the East Asians with a peace offer as they are the only nation who will listen, likely due to our taking of Seoul.
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/9150/34cz1.png
They accept and the world miraculously becomes peaceful again, just in time for new year as well. [party] (Well, not Chinese New Year, but We'll settle for anything ATM). :)
IBT- America demands I remove the fortified leftover troops from the failed Sasebo campaign. I accept (They move automatically).
You may remember the war started by the Soviets against the Arab League and how the Arabs failed to show up for the party.
Well finally, 4 months after the war started, they arrive in my territory.
http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/2783/35sa2.png
Anyway, that concludes this chapter and the events of 1951.
SlothBear May 26, 2008, 05:34 PM You've inspired me not only to follow the story but also download the scenario and try it out myself! :D
Taniciusfox May 26, 2008, 06:41 PM Long Live the Chinese Empire! With South Korea eliminated, the key Allied beachhead is destroyed. :) I'm glad this game is designed to prevent huge nuclear skirmishes(from what I can see)...otherwise everybody would be dead...WW3 and WW4 have already occurred...less then a year apart. O.O
T!ck May 27, 2008, 11:43 AM Thankyou both. :)
At this stage I prefer to think of it as one war with periods of icy cease-fire.
Anyway, I played the events of 1952 last night/this morning. It started off well, but took a bad turn in the last weeks of the year. :(
Chapter 3 - 1952
Week 1
We try to make peace with the Arab League, but they rebuff our diplomats. They obviously are not yet ready for peace. However IBT they withdraw from our territory into French Indo-China.
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/80/36lf7.png
We comply, we do not wish to anger our allies. Even though they cannot attack us due to the locked alliance, they may be more helpful in war efforts if we keep them polite.
Week 3 - Nothing.
IBT-
http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/6617/37dt4.png
Finally, some decent airforce options. :)
Week 5 - Nothing.
Week 7
We notice that East Pakistan has claimed dominion over some of our territories and stationed troops in lands that are technically ours.
http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/859/38br7.png
We move some troops to the area to strengthen our defenses.
IBT - America demands 100 gold, we give in.
Week 9
We try and solve our border problem through polite diplomacy. But it doesn't go as well as planned.
http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/3498/39fe5.png
We will have to settle this dispute some other way.
http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/4483/42ib1.png
IBT- Eask Pakistan demand that we leave THEIR territory! Seen as its actually our land we refuse. War is declared.
Also:
http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/7103/41zi6.png
Week 11
Our forces advance on Rangpur and, despite the loss of one of our tanks, it is quickly captured. Additional units are called in to fortify the city.
http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/9594/43fc1.png
IBT- The Soviets join the war, they won't be much help, but the sentiment is appreciated nonetheless.
The Brits construct RAF Swift F4.
Week 13
Beijing is too crowded, entertainer created.
IBT- East Pakistani forces destroy a howitzer and tank outside Rangpur. Retribution will be swift. Meanwhile in Rangpur itself, the resistance ends and the citizens accept Chinese rule.
Week 15
Reinforcements arrive in Rangpur ready for the attack on Dhaka.
IBT-
http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/8210/45qh9.png
Week 17
Despite the best efforts of the Pakistani military to keep us out, destroying one of our tanks in the process, Dhaka falls.
http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/1762/46jk9.png
The people of East Pakistan are acepted as part of the republic. The Chairman grants power to Dhaka, establishing the adminstrative region of Bengal.
Week 19
With Bengal under Chinese control, a treaty is signed ending hostilities between China and Pakistan. There is no doubt as to who controls that contested territory now.
http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/89/47dr0.png
IBT- The Arabs show up by Dhaka.
Week 21
Finally, the Arab League are willing to negotiate and an agreement is reached.
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/2597/48an4.png
Week 23 - Nothing.
IBT-
http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/5486/49zm9.png
Our people want to build the PT-76 AFV Contract, maybe we will...
Week 25
Yes, ok, we will. Beijing starts PT-76 AFV Contract, to be completed in 4 turns.
IBT- India declares war on France! Minor skirmishes occur between Indian and French forces outside Imphal.
Week 27 - Nothing.
IBT- Allies all declare on India, this could get messy for India. The standard gigantic fleet of carriers and escorts are seen embarking from Japan.
Week 29 - Nothing.
IBT- From Dhaka we can see Imphal being bombed, the American airforce is up to its old tricks.
Week 31 - Nothing.
IBT-
http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/6470/52wq9.png
Week 33 - Nothing.
IBT- For the third year running, the Allies declare war on the Soviets! Maybe next year we can avoid a worldwide conflict.
http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/2856/53mf7.png
http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/9992/54uf8.png
Week 35
We bomb Hanoi with our crappy airforce, the decent Tu-4 Bull bombers are not yet complete.
A force in Shanghai prepares for another attempt on Sasebo.
IBT- The US carriers, stationed south of Hong Kong, where they assembled for their bombing of Imphal, let loose the American airforce on Hong Kong, which loses several population points.
Week 37
Our troops begin an attack on Hanoi, defeating a French Legionaire, but we lose 2 tanks attempting to kill the next one.
http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/4672/55tn0.png
I accidentally messed up the movement for our transport convoy, it is unable to land its cargo, which means it will be lost as the Americans utterly destroy it IBT. :(
http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/5553/56mr2.png
IBT- Transport is destroyed off Japanese coast. RIP.
Week 39
We continue to pour reinforcements into the attack on Hanoi, but still it doesn't fall. It seems the French are using the same tactic to fill the city with defenders.
IBT- More bombings.
Week 41
The last of our available reinforcements arrive at Hanoi.
IBT-
http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/6517/57jp9.png
Week 43
Despite being outnumbered by the French defenders, our brave forces attempt one last attack on the city of Hanoi. The result is disastrous, our forces are massacred. All around the republic people are saddened by the terrible news. :(
The Chairman assures the people that a day will come when these brave heroes are avenged.
Week 45 - Nothing.
IBT- The Indian war ends.
Week 47 - Nothing.
IBT- All but 2 of our cities are in disorder. The people demand that peace talks are made. Elsewhere, things are going well back home for the Americans:
http://img367.imageshack.us/img367/2431/59cf8.png
Week 49 - Nothing.
IBT- Finally, 7 weeks after our defeat at Hanoi, the allies appear with a peace offer, which we gladly accept.
http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/4333/60fq4.png
Also:
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/1794/61ha6.png
Week 51
Several cities build Tu-4 Bull bombers, a little late now, considering the war is over.
We will have to look elsewhere to try them out.
Finally, a very rough, innacurate and hastily assembled map of the local area, showing territory aquired so far.
http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/3222/worldjf5.png
Taniciusfox May 27, 2008, 01:00 PM Hmm, by screwing up the movement, you mean you moved the transport an extra square, meaning it couldn't deposit the troops? ACTUALLY, that could have worked to your advantage. :) Even when a transport unit cannot move, you can right click it and click the option: Wake Transported. This would have enabled you to move the units out of the transport onto the hills east of Sasebo. I use similar tactics to protect my units from hunting fleets.
Good work so far, the war on East Pakistan's success shows that China IS rising as a world power...(albeit shakily). I hope karma sides with you when the Chinese 'Republic' returns to reclaim the ancient birthright of Vietnam. :)
T!ck May 27, 2008, 01:11 PM Yes, now you mention it, that might've been an option, but if IIRC, the transport was the last unit I moved that turn anyway, hence it went to the IBT before I could fix the mistake. Oh well, at least the people of China have learned something from this: move planes and boats before ground units in future campaigns. :)
Taniciusfox May 27, 2008, 02:49 PM Yes, now you mention it, that might've been an option, but if IIRC, the transport was the last unit I moved that turn anyway, hence it went to the IBT before I could fix the mistake. Oh well, at least the people of China have learned something from this: move planes and boats before ground units in future campaigns. :)
Actually, I've found it handy to turn off that feature. You can turn off automatic IBT in the preferences screen I believe. That way you have to manually click in order to end the turn. It allows you to review your position before advancing to the next turn. = )
T!ck May 27, 2008, 06:51 PM Thanks for the advice, I'd been messing around with some of the preferences last time I was playing this game because of how incredibly slow my tank movement was, not to mention the almost five minute long enemy bombing runs IBT. I'll be sure to turn it off. :)
T!ck May 28, 2008, 07:54 PM Chapter 4 - 1953
Part 1 - January - July
Week 1 - I reshuffle some units around and move some Infantry to strengthen Rangpur and Dhaka.
IBT -
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/9780/62an8.png
St. Augustine must be getting quite old by now.
Anyway, we are quite far behind in tech, science needs a boost. Even with faster research its doubtful we will catch up now. :(
Week 3
Beijing begins Commando Training School, to be completed in 2 turns.
Science is raised to 60%
Taxmen are created from the wartime entertainers in order to pay for the increased science budget.
Week 5 - Nothing.
IBT-
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/3592/63lf1.png
Week 7 - Nothing
IBT-
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/3232/64rr2.png
Iran/Pakistan contact us. It's been 20 turns since the last war, we agree to renew the peace treaty.
America docks a huge amount of carriers and escorts at Okinawa.
Week 9
The Chairman holds a meeting with the head Chinese Generals. He claims that in the continued failed attempts to take American cities on Japan and French colonies on the mainland, we have lost sight of what is really important, the people of China. Too long have the false government of the Republic of China denied the people of Taiwan their right to rejoin our proud nation. These people, our kinsmen, must be liberated. To this end, we move a large force of troops to Fuchou, in order to invade Taiwan when the time is right.
Week 11 - Nothing.
Week 13 - Nothing.
Week 15
The troops in Fuchou are loaded into transport convoys.
IBT-
http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/5003/65db1.png
Week 17
http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/586/66vl7.png
Well over a year since the integration of South Korea into our communist union, its great to see the once divided Koreans putting aside their former differences for the greater good.
Week 19 - Nothing.
IBT-
Iran-Pakistan declare war on the Soviets. Could be a problem if they try and reclaim their former land in Bengal.
However, they also declare on Greece, dragging all of the allies into the war as well, looks like there won't be a problem after all. They'll be far too busy to come and bother us.
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/9538/69nn3.png
Oh dear, there definitely will be a problem then. Just when it seemed we'd get a nice period of peace to build up our forces as well.
Week 21
We land our liberation force on Taiwan. I forgot to take a screenshot til next turn, by which time the Americans had bombed the unit stacks.
http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/426/70ll2.png
I drop a few bombs on Hanoi, I think the French are mostly away fighting in Pakistan.
IBT-
Allies bomb us as usual.
The Pakistanis send a lone tank to Rangpur which is destroyed by our defenders when it attacks.
French paratroopers land near Rangpur.
A lot of our cities are in disorder.
Week 23
I undertake some urgent micromanaging to end the mass disorder.
Despite the Allied bombers best attempts to stop us liberating our own people, our non-injured forces on Taiwan attack and take Taipai. The Chinese people are now officially unified as one nation, except for the separatist resistance, which will soon be quelled.
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/3708/71zg9.png
IBT-
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/7080/73zc9.png
The Americans build Rock n' Roll in the Japanese city of Sapporo.
If they're able to build that, they are miles ahead in tech.
Week 25
I try my luck and send a Tank to attack Hanoi. It is redlined by the defenders and retreats.
IBT-
Rangpur succesfully holds off the attack of the French paratroopers from a while back, who chose to take an extra long route through the jungle on their way to attack the city.
Taniciusfox May 28, 2008, 08:48 PM Once again, you make a small - but nonetheless useful - conquest. I haven't played the map myself, but it looks like East Asia is South Korea, Taiwan, and the Phillipines. It's good to see that the Chinese and Korean Civil Wars have finally ended(and so quickly!), unlike in real history...
China's position is looking increasingly secured, I don't think France will be so lucky if you finally get your army together. With East Asia vanquished, your only real opponent is the Japanese cities.
Great work once more on slowly enlarging the Chinese Empire! I also like how you used that VERY realistic sounding excuse to invade Taiwan. :)
Taniciusfox May 28, 2008, 08:50 PM Oh, might I also request a world map? :) With all these wars, I wouldn't be surprised if the Soviet Union or someone else has expanded.
kingfire87 May 30, 2008, 10:13 AM Very good story. *Subscription.*
I also think that I may download this because this story is so awesome!
T!ck May 30, 2008, 03:41 PM Once again thanks to both of you. :)
I can't post a world map yet, simply because I haven't really explored enough to see much. My current minimap ends with Japan, the Philippines, Iran, India and the eastern Soviet Union. I know that the Soviets have lost Berlin as it isn't in their list of cities, but other than that I have no real information on the European Theatre (Well, actually, I do have some idea what's been happening as I retired the game to see the full map, but I'm not going to spoil all the details :p).
Closer to home they have lost the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin to the Americans.
Chapter 4 - 1953
Part 2 - July - December
Week 27
We manage the disorder that is crippling our cities using more entertainers. Even if we are running a defecit and our people are starving, production of reinforcements and science cannot stop.
Week 29 - Nothing.
IBT- Taipai is bombed heavily, losing several improvements, including its judicial system and airfield.
Week 31
Rangpur and Dhaka are reinforced with additional troops to counter any attacks the French may initiate over the border.
Week 33 - Nothing.
IBT-

We give into their demands, even though they wouldn't launch a decent attack, more war weariness is the last thing we need.

After taking this screenie, I had a re-think and changed the research to Synthetic Antibiotics.
Week 35
All of our cities except for Shanghai and Dhaka are in disorder. All production throughout the country ceases as workers go on an indefinite strike in protest against the war. The Chairman decides it is time for peace talks.
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/5310/82ei1.png
IBT-
The Allies also make peace with Iran/Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Pakistani forces show up by Dhaka but are fended off by the city's defence.
Week 37
In support of the Chairman's push for peace, all strike action ceases. In nearly every city in the empire 'We Love The Chairman Day' is celebrated.
IBT-

I'm starting to think some sort of super saved game editor is in order with regards to our locked alliance with these idiots. Our alliance with the Soviets means that straight away we are dragged into the war against the UK and America. :(
Week 39 - Nothing.
IBT-
We get peace with Pakistan/Iran and Afghanistan.
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/348/84yc5.png
They came out of nowhere, the Chairman promises the Chinese people that America will pay dearly for this.
Week 41
To try and avoid crippling war weariness, I decide to not attack the allies unless they enter my territory. Hopefully this way less nations will be drawn into the war.
Thus I do not bomb any of the allies and only move units to strengthen key cities.
IBT-
http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/5760/85go9.png
Also, the Americans invade the mainland!
http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/9516/86wq2.png
Week 43
Mass disorder ensues. (Hence the rioting cities in the previous screenie).
I do some micromanaging to stop the rioting.
We move to reinforce the cities around the invading American troops, who are also bombed by us, seeing as we can now safely attack them in the name of defence.
IBT-
We spot a British transport convoy off our coast, they appear to planning an invasion of their own.
Despite our micromanaging, a few of the allied nations attack the soviets, meaning we have to declare war on several more people. Because of this, only one city restores order and the rest continue to riot, improvements are destroyed across the country. :(
Week 45
We bomb the American invaders some more, redlining a tank.
IBT-
The Battle of Zhengzhou begins. The American forces attack and many of our troops give their lives defending the city. The Americans also suffer many losses in the attack and retreat to the farmland surrounding the city to regroup.
Also, the British launch their own invasion near Beijing, bringing an army with them!
http://img66.imageshack.us/img66/4840/87pd4.png
Week 47
After hearing reports of the destruction and carnage at Zhengzhou, the Chairman orders that the civilians of Beijing and Tsingtao be evacuated. As the millions of refugees head to the safety of Korea and the cities in the north, the garrisons of these cities head the other way, to defend the cities of Beijing and Tsingtao from the attacking invaders.
The American troops surrounding Zhengzhou are bombed again, in order to discourage any further attacks on the city.
IBT-
The battle of Tsingtao commences. Despite the superior number of British forces taking part in the attack, the city holds, though many Chinese troops are lost in the process.
A second wave of American tanks arrive for a second attack on Zhengzhou.
http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/3047/88fc0.png
Week 49
Due to war weariness and the evacuation of several cities, production falls to an all time low.
Reinforcements are called from across the empire to defend Beijing, Tsingtao and Zhengzhou from the continued allied attacks.
IBT-
We finished research on Thermo-nuclear Bombs this turn, but I forgot to take a screenie because I had other things on my mind.
Namely the Second British Invasion which contains another army!
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/69/89uq6.png
Week 51 - Nothing.
IBT-
Amazingly, each of the beseiged cities fend off the allied invasion once more. I don't know how long we'll be able to keep this up for though, our production is none-existant and we've emptied a third of our garrisons to reinforce these three cities. Hopefully peace will come quickly in the new year.
Taniciusfox May 30, 2008, 04:41 PM Things seem dire...but I'm confident Mighty China can pull through...
Just remember to turn calamity into victory. If you manage to destroy enough British and American troops, you should see about getting cities in the peace treaties...Taiwan and Southern Japan just might be yours that way. ;)
T!ck May 30, 2008, 06:56 PM Hmm, I wish. ;)
When I started out I knew the game probably couldn't be won, but now I feel that its become unplayable.
I've played quite far into the next year a few times now. As soon as peace is made, the soviets declare war on the Americans straight away again, so I can never get the chance to develop any military or improvements and the economy is running at a constant defecit. TBH, I'm not sure if its worth continuing the story.
TheOverseer714 May 30, 2008, 08:51 PM I think that's the problem with locked alliances, they drag you into ceaseless wars. China just isn't strong enough to fend off so many enemies, and it looks like the soviets are worthless allies, just dragging you down. I think in this scenario, you need to be America, the USSR, or a non-aligned power to do well. I wonder if the aggression level is too high?
T!ck May 30, 2008, 09:01 PM The main way to win this is through victory points and taking that into account, I haven't done too badly really up to now. I'm currently third in victory point scoring, behind America and the UK. I got ahead of the other main contenders, France and the USSR, ages ago.
It would be possible to secure enough victory points to get in the lead by invading India in the early game, before they got too strong. However, by then the constant NATO-Communist wars would have probably begun.
Redman Jun 04, 2008, 06:20 AM Just read your story. Nice story! :goodjob: Looks challenging to play China.
Can't you whip any extra garrison?
Or even try to get a quick peace trough some minor allies of UK or USA every turn? And that way give you time to regroup?
DL this scenario as I also got excited to play it myself by reading your story and the one El Justo started with USA.
Redman
T!ck Jun 04, 2008, 01:31 PM My reputation is pretty rubbish due to violating peace treaties earlier in the game, attacking people who hadn't yet declared and such. Because of this even the minor allies are constantly furious with me and refuse to negoiate most of the time.
Oddly, the maoist communism government's hurry method is pay citizens. This actually makes sense though, a combination of whip hurrying, China's huge population and rapid city growth would likely make us invincible, producing 20 tanks every 2 turns or something ridiculous.
I can draft a garrison, but when we're being invaded by armies and 6 American super tanks at a time, conscript troops likely won't solve the problem. I'm going to play a few turns later on and see how it goes. I've played the next few turns a few times now and in the short term I've had some success.
I always manage to defeat the remaining USA and UK troops on the mainland, and I can recapture Taiwan as the Americans choose not to defend it. However, disorder and war weariness are rampant, cities like Shanghai, that should in theory produce a tank every 7 turns, now take 50 turns. Also, as soon as peace is secured with one of the minor allies and the endless bombing stops, the soviets just restart the war next turn.
If things miracluously get better I shall update, if not, I may discontinue the current game and possibly start a new one, with revised tactics and better management. (And lower difficulty and aggression). :p
Dezzilisk Jun 13, 2008, 06:11 PM Update coming any time soon T!ck?
Really enjoying the story thus far!:goodjob:
