View Full Version : Holidays/Vacation thread
Dell19 Jul 21, 2002, 02:12 PM It would be a good idea for people to post when they are going away so heres the thread.
I will be on holiday in two weeks time so if I do win the election then the deputy can take over.
Zwelgje Jul 21, 2002, 02:41 PM I'll be on holiday quite quickly:
I leave at July 27th (next saturday)
I'm back at August 3rd (a week later)
But I probably won't be posting again until the 4th or 5th.
germanos Jul 21, 2002, 02:47 PM Leaving Tuesday for 7 to 10 days.
mordhiem Jul 21, 2002, 03:39 PM I'll be gone from the 26th of July to the 9th of August.
Immortal Jul 21, 2002, 08:56 PM I will be gone From July 25th through August 9th
duke o' york Jul 22, 2002, 02:24 AM You will all have forgotten this by the time it comes around, and the thread will be on the third page or so, but I'm going away for a week in France with my girlfriend over my birthday!
We're flying to Paris on 7th September and returning on the Friday after. Yes, we'll be flying back on Friday 13th September! At least we won't be flying on my birthday - 9/11 as our American friends have it. To be honest though, I doubt that terrorists would use such a rubbishy airline as we'll be on, or even use the same idea as last time so I'm not worried but my girlfriend was for a bit.
I don't know if we're staying in Paris as we haven't got anywhere booked yet, but we're sure as hell flying there! :)
Kev, this is why I can't get a new PC yet. :(
Dell19 Jul 22, 2002, 02:28 AM Well someone could sticky the thread :)
seanwel Jul 22, 2002, 02:18 PM Short Vacation: July 25 - July 28
Then Wisdom Teeth Pulled July 30th, so who knows...

Hmm... wait a while for a new PC, or spend a week in France with a lovely woman.... Hmm....
Maybe SHE'LL buy you one for your birthday???
;)

I'm around at that time Mordheim (judging that it's likely I'll be deputy dawg), and can cover for most of the period but I am in South Africa 6th - 8th August and I'm not sure I can log in from there.
I am away 18th August - 2nd September and will be uncontactable for those 2 weeks.
If you have any specific thoughts on the first few periods' play while you are away, feel free to either post an open reply or send me an e-mail.
Cunobelin Of Hippo Jul 22, 2002, 09:04 PM Hippo will be on holiday from June 20 to September 3. During that time he will be spending an inordinate proportion of his waking hours here ;)
duke o' york Jul 23, 2002, 09:23 AM I've just remembered to tell you all that I'll be off work for the next two days and won't be at this site until Friday. I hope that I can trust you all to behave yourselves and not to suggest researching things like warrior code or horseback riding while I'm away! ;)
Have fun with the first turns! :D

As the Deputy Foreign Advisor (at least I think so, haven't checked the election thread yet), I can cover for you during that time. For beeg emportant decisions (and for a list of my official duties) I will rely on the experience and common sense of the populace...
Heliogabalus
no holiday this year :-(
Zwelgje Jul 24, 2002, 01:51 PM Very good heliogabalus, that's exactly the point of having deputies, when the advisor is unavailable the deputy steps in. I'll be posting on friday but saturday I'm gone so from saturday until I start posting again you're the foreign advisor. :)
Dell19 Jul 25, 2002, 02:28 AM This is going to be one of the most active terms for deputies as many people are going on holiday, so they will be leaving their deputies in charge.
heliogabalus Jul 25, 2002, 04:39 AM Seems like the Foreign Advisory will be "unavailable for comment" this coming weekend, though, as I have no internet access apart from weekdays. Anyone wanting to fill the gap is cordially invited. Or do we just "delegate" our job to the president?
mordhiem Jul 25, 2002, 05:33 AM Just a reminder, im off for 2 weeks starting tomorrow. Ron, well, you know the drill.
Biologic Aug 12, 2002, 06:35 PM I will be on holiday/work for up to a month comencing within the next 2 weeks. However I will have access to the forums via the office on regular intervals so my participation will be only slighty hampered.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Aug 12, 2002, 07:38 PM I'll be gone from Saturday on until the ...... ah.... 25th or so...
Dell19 Aug 15, 2002, 02:50 AM I'm back! :)
duke o' york Aug 15, 2002, 03:43 AM I'm off (yet) again on Monday because I've got a job interview and it'll severely cut down on my spamming opportunities. :D
Tuesday onwards though - business as usual!
mordhiem Aug 15, 2002, 03:57 AM Hooray!
--EDIT--
Lol! :D
About dell being back, not about you leaving DoY. Replied before seeing your post.
--EDIT(2)--
Oh, wait it's for a job interview!
Hooray :goodjob:
I REALLY should read posts slower...
Dell19 Aug 15, 2002, 06:54 AM Remember Civ2 still doesn't work properly though so DOM will still have to play the moves.
Zwelgje Aug 15, 2002, 11:42 AM Oh no!
The guy is being voted to be president and now he can't play...
I feel sorry for you Dell, I really do! ;)
I hope you'll be able to fix it quickly and be able to enjoy your presidentship and play a few turns. :)
Dell19 Aug 16, 2002, 02:51 AM Well I did play two turns and its not that bad really...
ainwood Aug 22, 2002, 02:46 AM I'm off tomorrow to Russia :D
All going well ( ;) ), I'll be back on wednesay.
duke o' york Aug 22, 2002, 04:35 AM Do svidanja then ainwood. I doubt that you'll miss too much - it'll be two turns at the most if we have one on Friday and one on Tuesday too. You'll have the elections to look forward to on your return! Please consider standing for one of the positions. :)
ainwood Aug 22, 2002, 01:46 PM Ya nyeh gavaryoo pa-rooskee!
Mais tu parles français, anglais et également Russe! Je suis impressionné. :)
duke o' york Aug 23, 2002, 01:25 AM No, I don't speak Russian, but it never hurts to know a couple of words like Hello, Goodbye, Please and Thank You. I'd never go abroad without learning a few things like this as it is really rude to just turn up and start shouting in English until someone arrives who understands. I wouldn't want to give Alex the impression that I know much Russian or else he might bombard me with a post like those that have recently appeared in Scenario Creation all in Spanish. But his English is great so I needn't worry. :)
Dell19 Aug 24, 2002, 03:39 AM Does anyone know where Kev and Mr Spice have disappeared to? Mr Spice hasn't posted since we were about to start the new game and Kev has been away for 2 or 3 weeks.
Duke of Marlbrough Aug 24, 2002, 12:20 PM I think Kev has been spending most of his time playing the Civ 2 GOTM......?
duke o' york Sep 06, 2002, 09:18 AM Well I'm off to Paris tomorrow for my holiday! :)
I thought I'd remind those of you who I didn't tell before, and hopefully direct some more people towards the Demo game when they look up my last post and wonder why I haven't been in the forum for a week. Not that I'm that popular but it's worth a try! ;)
Now all of you behave while I'm away and don't do anything I would do. :D Good luck for the next few turns.
ainwood Sep 06, 2002, 09:24 AM Have fun!
When are you back?
Jayne Sep 06, 2002, 09:26 AM Yeah.. have fun and make sure you have a *large* glass of wine for me!! ;)
Dell19 Sep 06, 2002, 09:33 AM Have fun, but don't be suprised if we are in Monarchy when you come back :)
Duke of Marlbrough Sep 06, 2002, 10:52 PM IIRC, duke will be gone for a week.
duke o' york Sep 16, 2002, 04:09 AM Hello, hello, hello! :)
I had a great time on holiday and have returned to see what a great job you've been doing in my absence. :goodjob:
Duke is off this week so I'm temporarily in charge. You're all well-behaved, so I'll mostly be eating Octavian's doughnuts and not doing any policeman work at all. :) I don't have any mod powers though so I'll be relying on Shaitan and eyrei to make new turn threads sticky and to unsticky the old ones. If there's anything you'll need then just post it in the Needed Stuff thread and either eyrei will check it or I'll PM him with details of what is there. I'm sure that things will run smoothly this week and we can welcome Duke back with a mighty empire! :D

Zwelgje Sep 16, 2002, 06:56 AM Good to see you back duke! :D
GenShwartzCough Sep 17, 2002, 05:20 AM I am posting this in this thread because it is the closest to "applicable" that I could find. Shortly after this game started, I lost my connection to the internet for a little better than 3 weeks. Since regaining connection, I had completely forgotten that I had joined this:lol: So now I am wondering......have I missed to much to be an effective citizen?? Should I withdraw?? I will ponder these questions until I see a reply. :D
ainwood Sep 17, 2002, 05:29 AM NO! Stay in!
Have a read through the current turn threads. So far, we have three cities, have explored a far proportion of our continent, and are currently trying to decide what to do with a free settler we got, whilst we carry on exploration. You should be able to catch up fairly quickly! :)
GenShwartzCough Sep 17, 2002, 05:32 AM Thanks for the speedy reply ainwood. I will do just that then. :D
ainwood Oct 06, 2002, 03:50 AM Well, I'm off on holiday again - this time for 8 days cruising from Aswan to Luxor, looking at the wonders of ancient Egypt.
I look forward to seeing how you all get on with the next two sessions.
Good luck :D
Zwelgje Oct 06, 2002, 03:56 AM I'll be off from wednesday until friday.
So I won't be posting after the tuesday-turn and will return after the saturday-turn. In the meanwhile the deputy foreign advisor (Jayne) should step in.
Zwelgje Oct 08, 2002, 02:34 PM Just to remind Jayne (and others who might want to know) I bump this thread. I'm off for a few days and will return saturday.
duke o' york Oct 18, 2002, 09:20 AM MonkE mentioned that he won't be here from Monday until Friday next week so I thought I'd point out that I've got to go to Liverpool for training with work and so I won't be here on Tuesday or Wednesday. I'll be back on Monday to make sure that things went all right with the weekend's turns.
Remember - the week after next is time for more elections! :)
Serutan Oct 18, 2002, 04:48 PM I will be unavailable from Oct 23-26 due to moving. MonkE
has graciously agreed to sub for me.
Serutan Oct 30, 2002, 04:16 PM On the assumption that the Holidays Thread was for
individuals to announce absences, I'm putting this into
its own little thread as it concerns the upcoming Thanksgiving
holiday (28-29/11 USA), and Christmas/New Years period (everyone).
Basically, do the citizens think that we should be
thinking about skipping a turn period for Thanksgiving, and
another 1-3 turns during Christmas? Thought this might
be worth discussing ahead of time.
Duke of Malrborough: If you think a separate thread
inappropriate, then please merge this into the Holdays Thread.

Not inapproptiate, but just to keep the threads simplified and avoid confusion for future vacation postings. :)
Great topic to bring up, BTW. :goodjob:
Jayne Nov 04, 2002, 10:45 AM I'm not going to be available this Saturday (9/11/2002) until Tuesday (12/11/2002)
StevieP Nov 05, 2002, 02:26 AM I'm going to be away from 8Nov02 until 13Nov02 (Hopefully). I have asked Octavian X to write the paper this week.
Elsaak Nov 06, 2002, 02:16 AM Dear everybody
Unfortunatly, I'm not going to be available until the end of this years....! :(
I will continue to read posts, but cannot participate like now...
I ask Jayne to designate another deputy for her science ministery.
See you soon..................
Jayne Nov 06, 2002, 02:30 AM Well, Rout was runner-up so I guess I appoint him!. I'll post the results of my science poll before I leave, but I doubt there will be much call for the services of the Science Department for a while.
Dell19 Nov 09, 2002, 04:35 AM I wont be able to post for awhile as our phone line has stopped working so I can no longer go on the net and BT will be coming around on the 14th to fix it so its going to be awhile...
Duke of Marlbrough Dec 31, 2002, 11:28 AM Just FYI,
I will be putting in some major hours at work for our system conversion. So many hours that they felt my hour long commute to work didn't allow enough time for me to sleep, so they are putting me up in a hotel near work.
I can still post from work (time allowing), but may not have access to the game or forums other than that. I'm trying to see about bringing my home computer system to the hotel, so we'll see.
GaryNemo Dec 31, 2002, 11:31 PM H A P P Y N E W Y E A R N U F
In Little Nemo, we are Celebrating the New Year, January 1st, 1300AD ! Good Night, then Good Morning. And say Good Bye to Trondheim !
ainwood Jan 21, 2003, 04:38 PM Well, it may be a bit redundant, because I've hardly been contributing much here at all in the last few months, although I did have a bit of a revival over the xmas period. :)
But anyway, I'm off on holiday for the next few weeks, although I might find an excuse to pop in and lurk (I've been lurking here a bit lately - I saw the timely demise of the vikings :goodjob: :) )
But good luck with it all!
funxus Jan 27, 2003, 10:45 AM I'll not be able to participate much the week to come, since there is a lot of work in school and I'm going skiing this thursday. I'll be back Monday, but will still have a lot to do. I'm having a spring vacation in two weeks though and hopefully will be able to participate more then.:)
So someone will have to take over the war-planning, Naervod?
I'm sorry to let you down again :(
Octavian X Jan 27, 2003, 05:51 PM My sister discovered the joys of IM. Because my ISP limits me to 180 hours, and our usuage has increased due to her, my availibility will be extremely limited.
naervod Feb 15, 2003, 11:24 PM i will be in Washington DC until next Saturday. Civ General will take over for the week as he is my deputy. See you guys in a week ;).
naervod Feb 16, 2003, 09:43 AM There is a big storm in the DC area so my flight got pushed back a day. I am still coming home on Saturday.
naervod Feb 17, 2003, 02:14 PM Now im going... except im going to Santa Cruz instead
CivGeneral Feb 18, 2003, 11:04 PM CivGeneral Returns to the Civ2 DG
I have returned to the Civ2 DG. I have not left a message that I had left since I kind of drifted silently into the shaddows since I am more involved with the Civ3 DG since I am used to having a Turn Chat and Turn Chat instruction thread. I know I had been elected Military Advisor earlyer, I am sorry I had failed you in not posting disscutions, polls, and other stuff, since as I said before I am used to having a Turn Chat and Turn Chat Instruction thread. I know I have asked "How the turns are played" already, But I need to get used to the idea of a Chat Turnless game since I was chating with Octavian tonight and he said that the Civ3 Multi-Site Demogame would be played like the Civ2 DG. I have been gone a while and I am worried that my Military Deputy Status has been taken away due to my recent AWOL. And I wish to have someone teach me the step by step on how to play in a Turn Chatless Game.
Duke of Marlbrough Feb 18, 2003, 11:39 PM Simple, the President plays the turn and posts a new thread. In that thread the President will normally post the next time they plan to play. You download the game and read the thread.
If you need to make polls and such to decide the course of action then you make new threads in the forum. Once you work out your recommnedation, you post a summary of your plan in the game thread, hopefully at least a day before the President is scheduled to play again. That's basically it.
