View Full Version : iPhones
iamliberal May 27, 2008, 10:17 PM So I hear that Apple released something to allow developers to write software for iPhones, and this could mean games for iPhones. Anyone hear about any plans to make any of the Civ games available on iPhones?
Imagine a Civ Fanatics forum exclusively for iPhones
.... as if I need another excuse to give up the 'ol Treo for an iPhone this summer :p
Onagan May 27, 2008, 11:39 PM I heard yesterday, that the iPhone is coming to the Nordic och Baltic countries :worship:
iamliberal May 28, 2008, 12:44 AM Oh good news :D
Onagan May 28, 2008, 10:03 AM I hope so, i have to ask permission to get one. Maybe she will refuse
dojoboy May 28, 2008, 07:44 PM Yes, a Civ4 adaptation. It sounds interesting. It's a mobile game, but I'm sure the iPhone will get an iteration.

MehmedII Jun 03, 2008, 02:17 PM NO NO NO, you shouldnt ask for civ fanatic for iPhone, but for Civ rev for iPhone
Eio Jun 10, 2008, 01:01 PM I'd love to see CivRev for iPhone. I'm really looking forward to playing the DS version and I'll be picking up a console version as well. The demo of CivRev on the consoles is really a lot of fun.
iPhone version would be stellar!
Onagan Jun 11, 2008, 01:24 AM I don't want the DS version of CivRev, it's graphics are to low.
but anyway, next month, i'm gonne get two of those. :yumyum:
Eio Jun 11, 2008, 05:21 PM Thankfully Civ isn't based on graphics but instead gameplay. This is why CivRev DS will work. It's the exact same game as CivRev on the consoles just with different art assets.
I'm sure Firaxis could do the game then with any other platforms including iPhone and perhaps the Wii someday.
Onagan Jun 12, 2008, 02:47 AM I disagree.
I need a little bit of eye candy. Otherwise I could still play Civilization II. I still love that game, but the graphics are to old for now.
And the iPhone should be able to display better graphics than the DS version.
But i have to say that I'm not gonna buy a Civ-iPhone. It's a phone, not a game console.
iamliberal Jun 12, 2008, 03:36 AM The new iphone with 3g looks great, I can't wait to get one. And I sure hope they release a civ rev on it at some point :) For me, I don't care too much how the graphics look - I don't play civ2 and the old civs, not because of the outdated graphics, but because I like all the improvements to the game rules and ai and such. Anyway, I'm looking at ps3 prices in anticipation of civ rev's release.... just so much money to spend on top of an iPhone purchase in JUly
Onagan Jun 12, 2008, 06:52 AM Only 2 iPhones this summer,
No vacation this year. And Civilization 4 & CivFanatics is already taking to much time of me. Two weeks ago I had a argument with my girl about this.

I really wouldn't buy a PS3 purely for Civ Revolutions. It simply isn't worth it in my view. Borrow a friends console for the weekend and you will have more than enough time to exhaust the game. It just doesn't have the depth of the PC versions.
iamliberal Jun 20, 2008, 12:31 PM That's a good point. I'll hold off until Rev has been out for a bit. But Rev wouldn't actually be the only reason to get the ps3 - the blu ray player aspect is appealing too. But then again, a cheap Nintendo DS may be the way to go to play some Rev.

Hey, don't call my DS cheap!
I've got a copy of CivRev reserved at Gamestop and will grab it as soon as it arrives. :D
;)

Do you really think that it would take only a weekend to exhaust CivRev?

It DID take a weekend to exhaust Civ Rev. I started playing it Friday afternoon, and had listed and sold it on Ebay by Monday (for more than I paid :)).
The game is absolutely littered with bugs. The AI is simply ridiculously aggressive and stupid (it will surround your city with units then only attack once or twice a turn). There is no depth to the game; the unit choices seem really limited. Diplomacy is pointless, as is trading...I could go on.
Don't get me wrong, the game is not without it's charms, but I simply didn't get the satisfaction from replaying this game that I do from the PC versions. I don't expect anyone to on this forum to take my word for it. You'll all probably buy the game regardless. Afterall, your a bunch of fanatics!!! But the game really isn't worth buying a PS3 for. Call of Duty 4 on the other hand...

What did you play it on?
ScottUK Jun 21, 2008, 07:55 AM Microsoft Xbox 360.
iamliberal Jul 12, 2008, 03:27 PM dojoboy, so have you gotten it on your not-cheap-but-affordable DS yet?
dojoboy Jul 12, 2008, 03:43 PM dojoboy, so have you gotten it on your not-cheap-but-affordable DS yet?
Yep, loving it. Played it in bed 2 nights consecutively. SWEET!!! :) It reminds me a lot of Civ2, regarding graphics and AI. The AI likes to make demands.
iamliberal Jul 12, 2008, 04:12 PM You don't find you squint too much using the DS??
dojoboy Jul 12, 2008, 05:50 PM You don't find you squint too much using the DS??
Nope. That's what good graphic artists are for - pay them high dollar. However, in general, one does hold a DS closer to them than a computer screen.
iamliberal Jul 19, 2008, 03:37 AM well I'm posting from my new iPhone 3g. :)
I looked at getting ds for civ rev but I think I'm gonna save my money for ps3 eventually.
Btw I wonder wich is more fun, bts or rev??
dojoboy Jul 20, 2008, 09:48 PM Btw I wonder wich is more fun, bts or rev??
Depends on the setting. If you're in the waiting room, waiting on your son's allergy shot, CivRev is more fun. If you're at home, in front of your Dell laptop, :bts: is more interesting. Having typed that, I have been sitting in my den a great deal playing CivRev on my DS.
