Is There anyway to 'un-refine' a mana node? on several occasions i have selected the wrong icon and ended up with two sources of one kind of mana (which i only end up trading off). the only ways i know of are the Amurite world spell, which un-refines all nodes or (the cheating way) to open up world builder and replace the spesific mana with raw mana. could there be an adept spell that restores the mana to raw? or will i just have to live with un-usable and annoying surplus mana?

Metamagic II is Dispel Magic, which will revert the node to the raw state. Of course, you'll have to wait until your Adept can be upgraded to Mage status.

What A_Hamster said.

What's so annoying about "surplus" mana? Having more mana means your arcane units will get more free sphere promotions (more than 4 won't matter though, since this give archmages the top tier spell), and affinity.

If your naval invasion plans involved using Fair Winds and Malestrom from Air, but you accidentally clicked on Earth instead, which isn't very useful for naval attacks, you'd be a little handicapped.

Access mana of types where the level 1 spell is tripe and has no other advantages, is a bit of a bummer (CoughnatureCough).

Even more, if you are trying to a Tower of Mastery victory, than you very much want one of each of certain specific types. Yadda Yadda, stuff you probably already know...

How about if you are playing vanilla civ. The chaos II dispel magic spell doesn't seem to revert a node....

Having your cultural borders recede from the node seems to work though, ie immediately after the purge unfaithful project.

Is there another reliable way other than having your city captured to cause a revolt or something else that might cause a border recession?

Build a Beast of Agares and you force the city into revolt for 4 turns. And pre-BtS FfH Dispel was completely different, it was used then to remove Magical Effect Promotions.

I'll check again, but I am relatively certain that it no longer does. Though all of the code required for it to happen is still in the game, they are no longer triggered when the spell is cast, nor considered for allowing you to do so.
