View Full Version : 7th century on GEM
ijnavy May 30, 2008, 02:12 PM The Rise of the Arabs and Tang. The West in the Dark ages.
This is the thread to discuss and update anything related to the 650AD on GEM scenario development.
It is only in its planning stage.
What is happening: The west is in the dark ages, and the Carolingians have just united all of France. The Arabs have just conquered Carthage, how far will they go? The Tibetan Empire is at its height. Tang has just made contact with the Arabs.
The civs (28 as always) are: Tang 15 cities; Yamato 4 cites; Silla 4 cities; Eastern Gokturk Khanate 7 cities; Chenla 4 cities ;Chalukyas 5 cities ;Kanauj 5 cities; Gujrat 4 cities; Tibet 7 cities; Umayyad Caliphate 20 cities; Axum 3 cities; Byzantium 17 cities; Visigoths 7 cities; Aquitaine 5 cities ; Austrasia 8 cities; Nothumbria 2 cities; Vikings 5 cities; Saxons 4 cities; Serbia 1 city, ready to conquer 2 more; Lombard 4 cities; Avars 6 cities; Bulgars 4 cities; Slavs 3 settlers; Khazars 5 cities; Srivajaya 6 cities; Bavaria 4 cities; Maya 3 cities; Ghana 3 cities.
All of these might change.
Tang is going to loose some of its western cities soon and has some independents in borders as rebellion against empress Wu. Tibet is does not have many units. The Umayyads have a very high maintenance and many independent troops in borders for 1st and 2nd Fitna. Byzantium is also going to loose many cities.
Please give me some advice.

Do you mean '600AD'?;)
ijnavy May 31, 2008, 12:05 PM Thanks. I have just decided to make it 650 AD.
I just don't know what to do with the Arabs, Byzantines, and Tang because of their size except to add independents so they would take some cities.
Genghis_Kai Jun 01, 2008, 04:19 AM yeah. I guess the way to go is to choose a period when the great empires are rising, instead of when they are at their peak.
ijnavy Jun 02, 2008, 04:16 PM I think that I'll make 650 AD like this:
Tang 15 cities; about to loose western cities and some in center as a revolt.
Yamato 4 cites
Silla 3 cities about to conquer 1 more.
Eastern Gokturk Khanate 8 cities less techs
Chenla 3 cities, ready to conquer 1 more.
Chalukyas 4 cities, ready to conquer 1.
Pala 4 cities, ready to conquer 2 more.
Pratihara 3 cities about to conquer 2 more;
Tibet 7 cities
Rashidun Empire 17 cities going to loose Egypt and some other cities next turn, but should get them back all within 8 turns.
Axum 3 cities
Byzantium 14 cities; Going to loose Italy to Lombards and Balkans to Serbia.
Visigoths 6 cities
Aquitaine 3 cities
Austrasia 3 cities, going to unite France within 6 turns.
Nothumbria 2 cities Probably will unite England.
Vikings 5 cities There should be some raids.
Saxons 2 cities +2 settlers;
Raska 2 cities, ready to conquer 1 more;
Lombard 4 cities about to conquer Italy.
Avars 5 cities
Bulgars 3 cities, ready to conquer one more.
Slavs 3 settlers
Khazars 4 cities
Srivajaya 5 cities
Bohemia 2 cities, about to conquer 1 more.
Maya 3 cities
Ghana 3 cities.

AnTy0220 Jun 15, 2008, 05:21 AM When is it coming out?? I can find the way 2 download it.
ijnavy Jun 15, 2008, 10:24 PM It hasn't come out yet. I'm working on it and it should be done in about a week.
AnTy0220 Jun 16, 2008, 06:03 AM Great!!
thanks 4 sharing
ijnavy Jun 20, 2008, 10:16 AM Inspired by TRAIANO's 39 civ 1205 AD, I've decided to add 5 more civs:
Pallavas
Frisians
Goguryeo
Teotihuacan
Maya
Also, unfortunately, I've been unable to add custom leaderheads. The mod will come out very soon (less than a week).
Ajidica Jun 20, 2008, 10:29 AM You might want to change Serbia to Bulgaria. The Serbs (I think) were a sub group of the Slavs that settled in the Balkan mts and in the Peloponese. The Bulgarians were responsible for the primary wars against Byzantium. For a leader, I would reccomend Khan Krum (led the Bulgarians up to the walls of Constantinople, just before the siege engines were brought up, he had a siezure and hemmoraged blood, dying. His successor promptly converted to Christianity). ANother one is Tsar Samuel. He rebuit the Bulgarian empire after the invaisions by Nicephoras II and Svyatoslav of Kiev. He destroyed the Byzantine amy at Trajans GAte and Pliska.
ijnavy Jun 20, 2008, 10:55 AM Thanks, I already have the Bulgars.
ijnavy Jul 06, 2008, 12:18 PM Finishing the scenario soon. I wanted to do it on GEM 5.0, but it has not been updated for the new patch yet.
Lean Sep 11, 2008, 07:53 PM I suppose this has been discontinued?
Clonefusion Dec 13, 2008, 08:42 AM Hi ,
When make you this scenario ???
ijnavy Dec 26, 2008, 11:38 PM I've stopped playing Civ4 for a while, but decided to come back.
I have not even started, but I'll try to finish this scenario soon.
JEELEN Dec 26, 2008, 11:57 PM Cool! (And welcome back!)
Lean Dec 27, 2008, 12:14 AM Echoing what Jeelen said, welcome back! I must say, I don't know what to be more excited over: your return and continuation of this senario or Kai's completion of 1860. Good to have you back ijnavy, I missed your senarios.
ijnavy Dec 28, 2008, 03:19 PM Starting to put in cities.
A little less cities than written above because of not enough space to put them.
No Bavaria or Frisians. Could no fit them.
30 civs in all.
ijnavy Dec 28, 2008, 03:27 PM GEM 5.3
patch 3.17
Is this all right? I don't want to finish it and then find out that I have to start all over.
Lean Dec 28, 2008, 03:45 PM Yup, that's right.
Genghis_Kai Dec 29, 2008, 08:45 AM I might be releasing a new version, may be in 2 or more weeks. There could be some issues of compatibility for the future version if you work based on GEM 5.3.
ijnavy Dec 29, 2008, 11:27 AM So do you think that I should wait until the new version is released, or make my scenario now?
Is there something that I can do so that I don't have to remake the whole scenario because you released a new version of GEM?
Genghis_Kai Dec 29, 2008, 09:22 PM I don't know whether you should wait because I don't think neither us would like to promise any date. I just wish to let you know my intention, so you can plan ahead.
If you wish to start working on your scenario now, since I think I wouldn't make changes to the map, may be you can work on city placement, improvements, placing units etc? Only those xml modifications of your own would be affected.
JEELEN Dec 29, 2008, 09:46 PM Ah, I was wondering about map changes, as World 2009 mod would like to use GEM as a basis for the map.;)
xxhe Jan 18, 2009, 06:23 PM Can't wait to see this Scenario:goodjob:
Lean Feb 12, 2009, 02:47 PM I guess ijanvy dissapeared from CivFanatics again. I was looking foward to this too.
