i was wondering if you ask someone to declare war on someone else on a different island, will they make an effort to attack that island?

Yes they will. However the AI often needs quite a long warm-up time - if they were not prepared for war.

Asking that kind of "favor" more warlike leaders usually yeilds better results, as they are often prepared "just in case"

I had a game where i Vassalized Montezuma and Shaka very early.
When - ages later - i got declared by Willem who lived on the other continent, both Monthy and Shaka were there before i had time to assemble my own fleet. Monthy just made a lot of noise - as usuall. Shaka even took a city from Willem.

My recurring nightmare is of Vassals or Allies showing up after 88% of the opposing cities have been captured...
With Axemen and Cuirassers, while I have Tanks...

Give your poor little Vassal Rifling and some money to upgrade they Swords to Riffleman, and he might yet be usefull.

Just not give them your most advanced techs - they tend to techwhore it to everyone and his dog.

thats why i prefer "no tech brokering"

some say it makes the game harder, some say it makes it easier... i say it makes it more fun.

i dont think i ever saw the AI invade an AI succesfully on another continent. one or two cities at best. i asked my vassals for it many times, but never got any good results.

they do however, invade the human player quite nicely.
in one game justinian had 7 vassals on the western continent, i had cleared the eastern continent for yours truly.

he invaded me bigtime , along with his 7 vassals, and i almost lost the game on domination. which would have been a first for me, seeing an AI win a domination vic. as usual rifling saved the day though. i won on space race.

Not only does it prevent your vassals from giving away the store, but it prevents me from making my way to the top through tech brokering when I'm the first to circumnavigate. That's good. I think that humans have the unfair advantage brokering when free trading, and A.I.s have an unfair advantage boycotting & conspiring against the human . Now that I've tried it I prefer "No tech brokering", it's less frustrating and more fun.
